Some MP3s won't play???

some mp3s will load up and show and play while the ipod is hooked up to the computer but once I disconnect and listen to my ipod separately I noticed that some mp3 arent there. how can I fix?
thank in advance

The Shuffle is picky about the settings for each track. For instance, with Podcasts, if the Podcast track is set to "Skip While Shuffling", no tracks will play (the green and amber lights flash). I would isolate one track that you know was skipped and then check its settings paying close attention to the "Skip While Shuffling" check box under the tracks properties.

You can simply set your system preferences

Your question seems a bit vague to me though. So can you actually inform us of what it is you are trying to do and give us examples with named kit.

  • Some .mp3 files not playing in itunes?

I can't seem to play some of the .mp3 files in itunes 10 that I was able to play before the upgrade. For example in the rip I have of The Beatles - Abbey Road 2009 Stereo Remaster, only 3 of the 17 tracks can be imported into the itunes library. When I try to import the missing .mp3 files it won't even add them under the abbey road album. And it won't play either. The missing files play fine in windows media player, quicktime, vlc media player and others. What's going on with this new itunes update? Thanks to anyone that can help out.

    Hello,
I have the same problem here in Belgium/Europe after upgrading to iTunes 10.
About 10gb of 310Gb in total is not readable anymore. I use only mp3 320kbps.
You can still find them back in iTunes, but no playback anymore.
I have deleted them from the list and do a "add to library". Impossible to import this data anymore.
What is strange is that this mp3 data can be used in QuickTime Player.
And..the same data is not readable on a another (Windows 7) pc with iTunes 10, neither on a pc with Vista and iTunes 9.2.
    Who can help ??

  • Some of the albums in the Beatles package I downloaded from itunes will not sync with my iPhone 5. Some songs won't play. They did sync to my iPad and they all play on my iPad. What can I do? I've already deleted all songs from the iPhone and re-synced.

I downloaded the entire Beatles collection from iTunes in 2011. Some songs skip and won't play. Some albums won't sync to the phone but they sync to my iPad. I've deleted the entire music library from my iPhone, shut the phone down, turned the phone on and synced again to add the music but now 2 albums won't even sync (Rubber Soul and Revolver). I've tried dragging the songs to the iPhone, no luck. Any thoughts?

Sounds like you may need to re-download the entire albums from iTunes. See this KB article for how to download past purchases: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2519.
I'd suggest doing it one album at a time. Delete one, download it from your purchase histor, then the next, etc.

  • Some apps won't play sound through iPad2 speakers

I've noticed since updating to iOS 5 and 5.0.1, I've got more apps that won't play sound through ipad2 speakers, but will play sound through earphones though.  Using the same app on the iphone plays sound through the iphone speakers as normal.
It seems to be picky with which apps it does this to as Sky News/BBCiplayer/YouTube/Video/ IMDb all play sound through ipad speakers. Apps like FilmOn plus/ FreeAppMagic/ Falling Gems/ Bejeweled2/ FNS Shift2 will only play sound through earphones.  These Apps updating to the new iOS doesn't fix the sound issue either.
I can use an app that plays sound through iPad speakers, then use an app that doesn't play sound through the speakers, then use another app that does play sound through speakers, so the earphone connection actuator doesn't look like the problem to me.  Maybe some sound drivers may have been lost or deleted with new iOS updates over wifi...?
    Any help would be appreciated.

See if perhaps this is the reason why some apps aren't playing sound.
If you lose sounds for keyboard clicks, games or other apps, email notifications and other notifications, system sounds may have been muted.
System sounds can be muted and controlled two different ways. The screen lock rotation can be controlled in the same manner as well.
Settings>General>Use Side Switch to: Mute System sounds. If this option is selected, the switch on the side of the iPad above the volume rocker will mute system sounds.
If you choose Lock Screen Rotation, then the switch locks the screen. If the screen is locked, you will see a lock icon in the upper right corner next to the battery indicator gauge.
If you have the side switch set to lock screen rotation then the system sound control is in the task bar. Double tap the home button and in the task bar at the bottom, swipe all the way to the right. The speaker icon is all the way to the left. Tap on it and system sounds will return.
If you have the side switch set to mute system sounds, then the screen lock rotation can be accessed via the task bar in the same manner as described above.
This support article from Apple explains how the side switch works.

  • HT5848 Some stations won't play how can fix that?

I try to play some stations and they won't play even though they have a station.

    What app?

  • Some files won't play, while others just like them play fine

A couple of weeks ago I purchased a 3rd gen iPod Nano 4gb...between it and iTunes, I was able to easily get up and running. iTunes pulled together all of my music -- some of which had come from iTunes, and some were protected files from other sources that it couldn't load...but the vast majority of the files are unprotected MPEG Layer 3 files.
All of those files are seen by iTunes, displayed for me, and all of them play on my computer. A certain number of them I wanted on my iPod...so I checked the boxes and sync'ed the device. All but a handful of them play on the iPod. But here's the odd thing....those that won't/don't play are displayed on the iPod. It knows they're there. And I can scroll through them and select them...and the screen will even come up to indicate to me that they're about to play (with the song running time "thermometer" at the bottom)....they just won't start.
I've tried de-selecting them from the iTunes list, sync-ing again to remove them, then re-selecting them and sync-ing again....with no change: they're displayed, they can be selected...they just won't play.
Anyone have any idea what's going on?

    go to albums
    select all albums
right click one (as this will be the same as right clicking all of them)
go to the bottom of the pop up munu
    click "Check Selection"

  • Some Songs Won't Play on the iPod

    I have a bizarre problem.
All of my songs that are on my iPod are in iTunes (How else would they get on my iPod xP) and they all work fine. In general, the songs on my iPod work/play fine, minus a few.
When I go to play them, the load up, I see everything that should be there (album cover, band name, song name etc.) but the song doesn't play. What does happen though, is that the iPod rapidly goes through the album, going song to song, without playing any of them, as if I were pressing the skip song button. (which I am not pressing)
Then it slows down and stays on one song, staying at the 0:00 mark, even though the play arrow at the top is there. If I press pause and then play again, the arrow icon changes, but the song still won't play.
Now if I go to any other song by any other band the iPod won't play that song. If I press the center button, and move what part of the song it is at, it skips to the next song, and it doesn't matter how far into the song I put it. It's like the screen shows there is 4:24(or any time, this is just an example) of a song but the iPod thinks there is 0:00.
A simple restart of the iPod sets everything back to normal, I can listen to my other music without a problem, but the same thing happens when I select any of those songs.
At first I thought they were just broken files on the iPod, or even from the CD which I uploaded to iTunes. So I just ignored it, and didn't play those songs. But then I got more music yesterday and put it on my iPod, and the same thing happens to the entire album. So I decide to go open iTunes, and see what would happen if I tried to play the files on the computer. In the iTunes library, they worked fine. I go to where my iPod is listed, and play it from there it also works fine. So it's only on the iPod.
Is it the format or the bit rate of the file? I don't think this is the problem, but maybe it is, so here's the info on the files.
    Kind: MPEG audio file
    Bit Rate: 320 kbps
    Format: MEG-1, Layer 3
    Encoded: LAME3.93
Any ideas would be much appreciated.

i have this exact problem on my 120 classic. it started earlier today on a few song i had downlaoded from the iTunes store. i thought it was an accessability issue since i had just updated to the latest iTunes, but it started happening on my songs from CDs, and then what you described happened on every single song i played on shuffle (out of about 10,000 songs total)
i got home and plugged it into to itunes only to find it told me to restore it. so i did. then it looked as if it was fixed (the bar at the bottom showed everything on it)
then i unplugged it, and it said no songs, yet there was 50gb of info on it.
i checked under settings and it said it was all 'other'. then i plugged it in again and restored it again and the same thing happened, 50gb of other.
iTunes works perfectly still. im not sure what the problem is, and ill probably go to the nearest iTunes store this weekend and ill tell you how it goes if theres a way to fix it.

  • IPhone4, iPod app weirdness. Some tracks won't play. [updated]

    Hi all.
So yesterday on my way to work my iPhone4 stopped playback (iPod app), i pressed the play button, but it just didn't do anything and the track remained unplayed. I click to the next track and that one worked just fine.
This happen to serval tracks on my way to work and later on my way home, and again this morning. The patten, is that all the music that won't play are coming from a few albums, Hendrix, Red Hot Chilli Peppers blah blah blah.
I checked those track in iTunes and they played just fine. Also these tracks were downloaded from iTunes. There were not CD rips for downloads from another vender.
The only thing i did before this happened, was a sync/backup to iCloud that night before (Sunday).
As yet i have no idea what went wrong. And if you have had this happen and figured it out please let me know. Or if this is happening to you now, what are you doing to figure it out?
I, right now, am re-uploading all the music. I first removed it, all. Every album, every track. And i'm hoping that by re-installing them all over again will fix this, weird, issue.
    [Update]
Okay, so the re-install of all the music is done, and i played Jimmy Hendrix through my iPhone4. So i guess that worked. If i have anymore issue like this i'll update this post. But if you are having this same issue, than i suggest that you re-move all the music. Or rather that ones that are stalling. And re-load tham again. As i didn't want to miss any i did the lot. Hope this helps.

No replies. I've taken to noting the problem tracks and just re-ripping them from their original sources. This seems to fix the symptom at least, if not the cause.

  • Some tracks won't play in iTunes anymore

I have a number of .mp3 files that iTunes used to play, but now no longer will. Nothing happens when I double click on them or press play. Most of my other tracks play fine.
When I "get info" about the problem tracks within iTunes, and I click on Summary, I notice that the Format, Channels, ID3 Tag, and Encoded With fields are no longer present. The file type is still MPEG, and when I locate the files through the finder and get info, they are .mp3 files with an .mp3 extension.
I've read some discussion of this problem on these boards, and some have suggested that the problem occurs when one tries to play the files through QuickTime. This isn't my case. (Quicktime says "the movie could not be opened.") But I have noticed that the problem tracks do have in common album titles in which I have included a colon. I allow iTunes to organize my files, and usually--and even in the case of these problem files--an underscore replaces the colon when iTunes creates the album folder in my Music folder. I bring this up only to suggest that one common denominator for the problem files is the presence of a colon in the album name for the iTunes tag, although the presence of a colon is not a guarantee that the file will not play.
I have tried copying a trouble file to the desktop, deleting the file from the library and from the Music folder (although I haven't emptied the trash) and then trying to restore the copy to my iTunes library. iTunes won't accept the file.
Any ideas? What a crazy problem!
    MacBook   Mac OS X (10.4.6)

Unfortunately, you are not alone with this. However, I have yet to come across a solution to the problem after many hours trawling these discussion boards and the net.
I have exactly the same symptoms. But my common denominator is ‘missing Album Artwork’. Although the album has Artwork, all the tracks that have ceased playing and are being ignored by iTunes, have lost their Artwork.
This would suggest a problem with the ID3 tags i.e that they have become corrupted. Of course, the recent update from iTunes 6 to 7 which introduced the ‘Coverflow’ technology has coincided with the start of my problem. A quick glance at the ‘last played’ date of the problem tracks confirm that the corruption of the ID3 tag is DEFINETLY post iTunes7.
I have tried editing the metadata with an ID3 tag editor, and can change everything except the Artwork field. If anyone has found a way to restore a track after the same problem, please post…many thanks.

  • Some mp3s no longer play in itunes 6

ok this one has me stumped. upgaded my itunes and now some of my music wont play (when it did before).
first thing i noticed is that some music icons were changed to quicktime. these would not play even when changing back to itunes (by selecting "open with" in the info box).
even opening with quicktime gives me this error: QuickTime cannot open the file: "zzzzzzz.MP3"
it is not a file that QuickTime understands (-2048)
on closed inspection, i see that the "more info" box is missing some of the itunes information previously there, and there is no preview option.
i'm tried copying the file and renaming, which did not seem to help.
i'm clueless as to what's going on! anyone have any ideas?
    R

    Rebecca,
Install and open File Examiner. In FEX open a known healthy .mp3. Select the Type/Creator from the pull down and note the codes. Close the file without changing. Open your corrupt file and change the Type/Creator to match. Close and save changes. Your .mp3 should now open properly in iTunes.
Note: If the broken file is an AAC, substitute AAC for the mp3 above!
    Good luck,
    Dean

  • MP3s won't play correctly in Media Sourc

I just downloaded Media Source 5 (5.0.38) for my Zen. I have discovered quite a few of my previously ripped MP3 suddenly don't play right. They played great in 3.30.2 and still do.
I ripped all of these myself several years ago. A single version of MusicMatch was used to do all the ripping, hundreds of CDs.
I've discovered this pattern. If one track of a CD is wrong, all tracks from that CD play wrong. Otherwise all tracks of the CD play perfectly.
With Media Source 5, when I start play on a bad track, the progress bar zooms across at about 0 times normal speed. When it gets to the right end, playing stops, despite the song being far from finished.
So I tried the MS Media Player. Also bizarre behavior. The bar shoots across just as fast, but the song doesn't stop with the bar hits the right.
Media Source 3 always works correctly on all mp3 files. Trying to find a pattern, I tried other mp3 players. Here is that result:
These are the ones that play it correctly:
    Creative MediaSource 3
    Nero Showtime
    MusicMatch
    PowerDVD
    Garmin GPS
    Wrong:
Creative MediaSource and mp3 player 5
    MS Media Player
Based on the above pattern it doesn't make sense to be that just some CDs could be "damaged", since either all tracks or none of a CD are "bad". Also, the same program was used to rip them all. They play fine on most players, just not MediaSource 5 and MS Media Player .
Has anyone ever heard of this? It there anyone here that can examine a sample file and figure out what's "wrong" with it's My purpose here is to discover whether this is a player problem or something else. MediaSource could be using a Windows resource to play mp3 files which would explain why both it and Media Player both fail.
    Thanks.
    Bruce.

  • Mp3s won't play for most who open my iWeb site

I am a pianist with an iWeb site. I drop my mp3s on various pages, then a photo on top to make it look cool. Set them to auto play. Most can not cue them when the site or page opens...some can. Would anyone please be willing to help me understand why this is and what I must do about it so that the majority can hear?
    Thank you!
    Gaston
    http://web.mac.com/johnriger3

iWeb uses only the QuickTime browser plug-in (page code) and without it your visitors can't hear your file.
iWeb has changed your source .mp3 file and placed it inside a .mov container:
    http://web.mac.com/johnriger3/Site_2/Media/Pure%20Love%201.mov
which means only QuickTime can be used to play the file.
The page code also requires javascript be enabled. If javascript is turned off your file will also not play.

  • Some albums won't play entire album--just one song at a time.

  • Transferred music from computer to laptop...some content won't play

Some of my content is locked, and when I try to authorize, it says that the computer is already authorized, but wont play the song.

Then, I dropped the entire itunes file from the old PC (XP) into an empty external drive.
That "itunes file from the old PC"?  Is that the iTunes folder, from the old PC, that was in the user home folder's Music folder?
All of the library, playlists, etc. from the ipod as they always have been are shown, by they are 'grayed out' and will not open or play.
That's on the iPod, correct?  Are all of your old playlists in iTunes, from the old PC, still there in iTunes on the new PC?  Are the songs in iTunes still playable?
This document provides the steps to transfer a complete iTunes library between two computers.  See the section called External drive.
iTunes: How to move your music to a new computer - Apple Support
There are many steps, but this is a summary.  (1) On the old PC, consolidate all of your iTunes data into the iTunes folder.  (2) Copy this iTunes folder to the external drive.  (3) On the new PC (that has iTunes installed but NOT running), replace its existing iTunes folder with the one from the old PC (on the external drive).  When you run iTunes, it uses the iTunes folder from the old PC, and it should look like iTunes on the old PC (with all the playlists, ratings, play count, etc.), and your iPod will see the iTunes library as the same iTunes library (because it is the same library).
If you did something different, and the old PC is still accessible, you may want to try it using the method from the linked document.
