Some new "hidden" Leopard features

Here's a link to an excellent article which gives us some hints and tips about what's new in Leopard.
I like that you can right-click on a Startup item and are directed to the actual app via Finder.
Also, when using textedit, the draft is autosaved every 30sec by default. You can change it or turn it off under the preferences pane.
Also is the new printing pagesetup/preview/printersetup all in one window.
Check it out:

I have the same issue. I usually use gmail but tried the new Apple Mail features and in doing so, I have sent 13 versions of a message to a few people. It sends out at various times while I am typing the message. I thought it was just my Macbook Pro but I am having the same issue on my MacPro as well. The only difference is that one doesn't send out as many premature emails.

Not all of the listed email recipients on my contact form are receiving the inquiries.    Muse allows me to add several email addresses separated by a semi-colon (see below from Corey Wrote) but only one of the three addresses are receiving the contact form inquiries.

We've added a new Form widget to the widget library.
You can easily configure the form to send the form submissions to multiple email addresses, and optionally redirect users to another page after submitting the form.
You can add and remove fields, and style the form as you would other Adobe Muse elements. You can independently style the various states of the form, and form fields to provide a compelling user experience, with visual cues for error states, empty states, and more.
Because Form processing requires server-side support, Adobe Muse forms are configured to work when published to Adobe Business Catalyst. If you make changes to your form and publish again, Adobe Muse will make the appropriate changes to your Adobe Business Catalyst forms.
Adobe Muse will safeguard data when redesigning your Adobe Business Catalyst forms
If a field with no data submitted is removed, it will be deleted from the database.
If a field that has submitted data is removed, it will be preserved in the database, but can be deleted from the Adobe Business Catalyst admin console if desired.

  • New to Leopard Server

    Hey everyone,
I'm really new to Leopard server and would like just a moment of your time to walk me through the setup process. I don't understand some of the installation steps.
What I want to do is use my mac mini as a server. I want to use all the features of Leopard Server. I would also like to be able to access my server from work.
My mac mini is connected via ethernet and I do not have a static ip address. I read that I might need a DNS. Where can I get one?
If anyone could help me with this, I would be forever grateful.
Really struggling here guys. Step by step instructions would be a great help too.
    Thank you in advanced.

    Hi
A good place to start is here:
    http://support.apple.com/manuals/#serversandenterprisesoftware
    You could consult this thread:
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=7602817&#7602817
Might prove useful/informative? You don't 'get' DNS as such from anywhere if you don't want to. If all this server is ever going to do is 'serve' a private network (LAN) then you can make up your own. However:
+"I want to use all the features of Leopard Server"+
Would this mean Web/Mail/Wiki/Blog/Calendar Services? In which case you will need to purchase and register a public domain. One of your own choosing based on something memorable to you. There are hundreds of web-based companies offering to sell you a domain. Google for them. Here's one you could use:
    http://www.123-reg.co.uk
    Or consult this list:
    http://www.google.com/search?client=safari&rls=en-us&q=Domains&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8
+"I would also like to be able to access my server from work"+
Ideally you should purchase a fixed external IP address as ultimately it will be better for you especially if you're planning to run your own mail server. If that's not possible use DynDNS:
    http://www.dyndns.com/
However you may find some recipient mail servers rejecting mail coming from your domain if you go for this option? A quality 'pro-sumer' router/firewall would be advisable as well.
+"Step by step instructions would be a great help too"+
Yes that would be nice for the rest of us as well!! AFAIK there are no 'step-by-step instructions. Think about it - how could there be? Everyone's environment and requirements are different. What works for one may not necessarily work for another.
If this is something you want to do all yourself the best advice I can give you is to read as much as you can regarding not only OSX Server and the Mac platform but also other Server products/platforms, Routers, Firewalls, NAT, TCP/IP, Routing, Switches, Networks in general and at least some idea of how to use the command line. What I've mentioned is just to begin with.
You should also consider augmenting your skill set with some knowledge of scripting. It's a useful 'arrow' to have sometimes.

  • New MacBook Leopard Not For Me. What To Do!?

    Hi All!
I have just bought a MacBook a week ago! I had some doubts about Leopard, since I use hardware that requires drivers, and these are not yet Leopard compatible. But I thought that it would not be a problem cause I have a Tiger license not in use, so I would downgrade, and then upgrade once the drivers got up to date.
BUT, I can not, my Tiger install Cd is bougth about a year and a half ago. And I get the message that I can not be installed on my machine, when I try to install.
    What do I do?
I do not want to wait 3 months to be able to use my hardware...
Is my Install DVD not universal binary perhaps, in that case, is it possible to get one that is?
    Thanks all
    morten beta

I wanted to buy a new Mac just after the switch to Leopard, but was told by an Apple Dealer, (not an Apple Store, but one that knows their stuff), that the same models that came with Tiger last week, would not run Tiger due to Firmware Updates.
Should be easy enough to check by cloning an existing latest IntelMac Tiger install to a GUID external HD, then see if yours can boot off it.

  • FACE TIME with new Snow Leopard

I am currrently running Leopard 10.5.8 right now and i tried to download FaceTime on my computer...but found out that it doesn't work....because you need to upgrade to Snow Leopard?... so if i get the upgrade.... will it install smoothly? and let me run FaceTime with friends from over seas (Asia) without any problems?...Any issues with FaceTime and running the new Snow Leopard?... I need all the info before running out and buying the upgrade...thanks

    Hi,
It is Intel Only (As In only works with Snow Leopard).
Reports here vary mainly because people come here looking for help so it is a some what distorted view. (we never get to here from people who had no issue setting it up).
Some have reported issues trying so set up "accounts" using Apple IDs they already use elsewhere.
This may centre around the issue of using one Email address as th ID/Account emails and using another for people to Call (it's a bit like an Alias situation).
Search for "Facetime" in the iSight Forum
Same for the "Using Snow Leopard" Forum
This is where most have been posted.

  • Rotate canvis unintuitive, hot key limitations, new adjustment layer features? Brush size slider bad

I've been using photoshop for a while, as well as a number of 3D  applications. Speed and efficiency have always been very important, and I  usually customize my software a lot to make it work for me. These are  some of the things photoshop could do better in comparison to the user  interfaces in some 3D programs.
    Rotate canvas unintuitive:
While having a center pivot seems more intuitive at first, it actually  causes me nothing but trouble having to always figure out where the  center is, and then deciding how close i am (which will change speed of  rotation). I would like at least an option to simply drag left and drag  right for clockwise and counterclockwise at a specific speed.
    Hot Key Limitations:
alt R and control R and shift R cannot be assigned to different things. I would prefer it if i could customize all of these.
    new adjustment layer features:
often when painting in photoshop, i create an adjustment layer over all  the layers. If i like how it looks, and want to continue painting, i  have to either turn it off while i work and switch it on at the end  again, flatten the entire painting loosing the layer separations, or  duplicate the adjustment layer and setting it next to each pre-existing  layer and then merging each set of 2 layers(the original + the  duplicated adjustment layer).
It would be really wonderful if the process of duplicating the  adjustment layers and flattening each set of 2 could be automated. a  sort of Flatten to all individually button.
    Brush Size Slider:
Zbrush has a very wonderful brush size change. I never appreciated it  until trying photoshops. (previously to this i used another piece of  hardware with a scroll wheel to change brush size. and still do. why the  heck is the first brush size jump 10 units!?! simply a linear brush  size change would have been awesome. although including a brush size  slider is already pretty awesome
These things have been bothering me for a long time, and i always assume  these problems that are obvious to me are probably obvious to everybody  else and therefore will be fixed without my small intervention, but i  figure this cant hurt. Thanks for all the hard work and the wonderful  product!

This is a poorly explained reason about why is so important having a loupe in Photoshop. I've not also, used the best example, but I will. This belongs to the ADDITIONAL FEATURES: Loupe/Magnificator View:. Also, I will try to make my english clrearer, but here it goes:

  • Are there Mail changes in Mavericks? Are the new iCloud keychain features like LastPass?

It's a pleasant surprise that Mavericks - OS X 10.9 was released as a free upgrade. There are some nice new features, like Finder tabs. I don't see any mention of Mail enhancements though. Are there any? I see tagging for files. Tagging for mail would be nice as cross-references.
What about the new iCloud keychain features. Does that do most of what LastPass does? Or is it just Safari specific?
    Anyway, off to upgrade!

  • Announcing some new Arch Linux Schwag offerings

    Hey All,
I wanted to introduce you to some new Arch Linux Schwag offerings I've been cooking up over the past little while.
I'm currently sold out of case badges, and Simo has faithfully shipped his last order.  I'm trying to think of a way to compensate him, he's done so much work for me on the shipping front and all I ever offered him was dinner, (granted, he's a starving student, and dinner was hopefully much appreciated).  When I reorder stickers, probably in the new year, I will be shipping them myself, from Canada, so domestic prices will be a touch higher.
    Now, onwards to Schwag:
It's no secret that I'm the odd man out on the tacos vs poutine debate.  I know you all will come around to my way of thinking eventually, but in the meantime, check out the new schwag where you can proudly pick your piece.  I've also added a few other new t-shirt design, mostly as your suggestions.  Check out the new products line at zazzle to place your order:
    http://www.zazzle.com/archlinux/gifts?c … 1284817680
I think most of you know about the laptop bags, jewellery, and case badges (currently out of stock) selling at: http://schwag.archlinux.ca/
I've added a few handmade items of my own invention to the mix, including wooden and soapstone sculptures, keychains, and coasters, all featuring our favourite distro's logo:
    http://schwag.archlinux.ca/product/coaster/
    http://schwag.archlinux.ca/product/soapstone_sculpture/
    http://schwag.archlinux.ca/product/sculpture/
    http://schwag.archlinux.ca/product/keychain/
I'm particularly proud of the soapstone sculptures, they look incredible.  I'm not sure I can give them up.  The keychains will also make great stocking stuffers this Christmas season, so remind your friends to shop Arch Schwag!
In addition, I would like to announce a preview of the Arch Linux Handbook.  This should be retailing in a couple weeks, and will be available from both CreateSpace and Amazon.com.  The handbook is basically a quick restyling of the epic beginner's guide in the wiki.  You can preview it here:

    That's all for now!

Runiq wrote:Cool stuff. Like the coasters, and the allanbrokeit shirt is stylish.
    That's Acecero's contribution, as he implies. :-)
Also, there's a typo in the handbook's headline: "A simple lightweight Linuk handbook."
Yeah, I know... sadly, I didn't notice it until it was too late to change (the book was set up for publication).  Now I have to wait for a new edition, or pay $40 to put one out now.
Acecero wrote:Just curious, are you going to release different editions of the Arch Linux Handbook from time to time? I'm assuming the information would need to be updated and the more marketability you will gain anyway.
I'm hoping to sell between 10 and 50 copies of this edition to pay for the upfront costs before making a new edition.  The more popular it is, the more likely I will be to keep it up to date.
BTW, if anyone is interested in doing cover art for the second edition, get in touch with me.  I've been told that this cover looks like ass (it was gently, with links to tutorials on design :-D)

  • I love the new touch screen features!

I just wanted to say that whomever added the new touch screen features to Illustrator CC is AWESOME!  Very cool!  Great work!  Touch type tool, free transform, multi-touch zoom/panning... very nice!
I like it so much I made a video: http://youtu.be/ZKhifrhMmNg?t=4m13s
(and also showed some touch screen support in a few other Adobe CC programs.)
Hope to see more of that kind of innovation.

    Gorgeous.
Some people may not be able to enjoy that great enhancement due to some controversy when it comes to buy (not rent) that piece of software.

  • Mobile Device Management solutions for K-8 school, where are the new iOS 7 features?

    Hi all,
I work at a K-8 school and we are using Meraki by Cisco as our Mobile Device Management solution.  This seems to be working just fine but with the release of iOS 7 we are trying to figure out how to use all of the new features included pertaining to MDM.  We have about 300 iPad 2s deployed.
The teachers would love to be able to use free apps and, using Apple's VPP, paid apps.  Right now we have to manually enter any redemption code into Meraki and then on each and every iPad log in using the Apple ID and password associated with the license purchased.  I am aware, via several sources, that Apple now allows you to "silently" install apps.  How can we do this? Anyone have any other tips to help in the deployment of the apps with the new iOS 7 features?
    Thanks,
    Scott

They're a lot more expensive, but Griffin has some of their 'survivor' cases with sealed ports, so you could cover up the ones you don't need.

  • New Hidden Networks

My wife and I have Mac Books running Mac OS X 10.5.8. After some point both of our computers stopped remembering to connect to NEW hidden wifi networks.
If I change the security credentials on our new router to the same settings of a hidden network connection, let's say my in-laws settings, the computers will connect with no problems. But if we try to connect to a new hidden network, the computers will not remember to connect.
How do we fix this problem? We have tried every solution we could find.
I am assuming it has something to do with a Apple update.
    Thanks for your help.

This is only happening on one of our computers, all others are connecting normally to the the network. My powerbook looks for a network (instead of using the preferred network in preferences), shows our network, I log in, password is accepted, full bars show on airport icon, but no internet connection. In network preferences airport shows green status, IPv4 (set to DHCP) shows address and subnet, nothing for IPv6 (set to Automatic).
I'm guessing that you tried all the suggestions in the second message of this thread:
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=10695921
In the Network panel of System Preferences, if you select the AirPort connection item, does the IP address look "reasonable" (similar to the other computers)? If you click on the "Advanced" button and select the "TCP/IP" tab, do you see a value for "Subnet Mask" and "Router"? In the "DNS" tab do you see a value in the "DNS Servers" box?
If none of this helps, until you can solve your problem you might want to connect your PowerBook to your AirPort Extreme with an Ethernet cable.
