Some of my firefox windows cannot be open up

I have 4 firefox windows that i alway save each with different websites, but suddenly 1 day when i open my firefox and the 4 windows load up, 2 of them cannot be opened. i click on the firefox window tab in my taskbar menu but the window just won't open up into full screen for me to see, it just remain as a tab in the taskbar menu

It would, perhaps, be more helpful if you explained how to decrease the value of the pref network.http.max-connections from 256 to 30 in steps that this novice can easily follow. I have looked at the link above and found it far too confusing and no mention anywhere of this network.http.max-connections. Any chance someone could do this for me, please? At the moment I am having to use a different browser to play games on King.com is this what Mozilla want? I feel quite let down and wish I not made the upgrade from the 3 version to the 9.

• The Firefox window doesn't open at all I can't run safe mode or make other trubleshot changes

since yesterday 08/10/2011 the Firefox window doesn't open at all I can't run safe mode or make other trubleshot changes. When I click on the desktop short-cut the Firefox windows starts loading but before open is crushing.I have sent several messages to you but no answer and my Firfox is not working.

Which version of Firefox and which OS are you using?
There are other ways of opening safe mode given at http://kb.mozillazine.org/Safe_Mode - See if that helps.

• If I close Firefox, I cannot re-open it. It appears to remain on in background.

I I close Firefox, I cannot re-open it without first shutting down and restarting the computer.

Seems to be a semi-common problem but I doubt you need to restart your system (although) that will do it. I have the same issue at this point.
Option 1: Use Task Manager (ctrl+shift+esc) and look to see if Firefox is still listed after you have closed it and cannot restart it. Right click and choose end process. Be careful to only shutdown firefox.exe unless you know what you are looking for!
Option 2: Simply Logoff your computer and log back on. This would be quicker than a restart.

Sounds like Firefox is "hanging at exit". That problem is frequently caused by an Extension or a Plugin. Read all of the following articles.

• Firefox Window Will not Open on iMac

When, I open firefox the options menu loads in the tool bar at the top of the screen, but is grayed out. Also, the main window does not open. I can access some options from the tool bar, but the browser window never opens. See screenshot - http://screencast.com/t/suM5Sso7keZ

Have you tried Firefox safe mode? It could be an extension reponsible.
If not, you could try moving the profile to another location, such as the desktop and then starting up Firefox so that it has to make a new profile. See if that works. If so, it could be something in the profile that is damaged, such as the localstore.rdf file.

• Firefox window will not open - firefox.exe closes by itself

Hello,
I have a problem with Firefox not being able to start when I double-click the icon on my desktop. I'm not sure what version I was using before, but I uninstalled whatever version I had before and installed the latest version (14.0.1), with no effect.
I can see that when I try to open Firefox, the firefox.exe process will stay open for about five seconds, then disappear. I've tried to open Firefox in Safe Mode and open the Profile Manager via the command line, but the window never opens, the process always appears for a few seconds and disappears on its own.
Anybody know what is causing this or how it can be fixed?

Hey, thanks for all the help so far. Sorry for the late response.
I followed your instructions, even getting rid of my bookmarks and personal data when uninstalling, and here's what happened:
After installing, I kept "Launch Firefox" checked at the last prompt. A window opened, it asked me whether I wanted to import anything from other browsers, I said no. Then it opened the regular Firefox browser window! But, I closed it and re-opened Firefox just to make sure it would still work...then it did the same thing it was doing before, opened for a few seconds and then closed on its own without opening the window. :-( So, it would open only once, the initial time and then that's it.
I don't get a crash reporter at all. No visual confirmation that Firefox is trying to open, except the process appearing a few seconds in the Task Manager and disappearing.
My antivirus program is AVG Anti-Virus Free Edition 2012. I do virus scans with Malwarebytes Anti-Malware occasionally. I don't have Windows Firewall turned on right now because it caused problems with another application.
This problem is particularly pesky...I don't know what happened, until a couple of days ago Firefox was running fine...
Any further help or suggestions would be appreciated!

• Some more 'not writable and cannot be opened" . . . one more time . . .

OK, I give up and need help. I have all LR 2.6 files and folders on an EHD (F:). I downloaded the LR 2.6 update to C: drive on my laptop (Vista) and upon the initial opening of the updated LR was able to open one of my two catalogs (.lrcats). However, upon closing that I am no longer able to access either THAT catalog again OR the other .lrcat because they are " not writable and cannot be opened".
I've read a multitude of threads on this problem and either the answers don't apply or I just don't understand what I need to do in order to open the F: lrcats on the laptop C: LR. Double clicking on the catalogs just brings up the above message. Properties indicates the catalogs are readable and have permissions . . . (It works perfectly on LR 2.6 on C: on my win xp sp3 desktop.)
I've tried everything I can think of (which AIN'T much - have always admitted to being computer-challenged). Any idea what I'm missing?

Well, is the catalogue (and the folder it is in) writable? Have you actually checked the permissions? Lightroom won't be spitting out the error just to tick you off, and - computer wizard or not - this sounds very much like something you'll have to fix at the OS level: it's probably nothing to do with Lightroom or those funny lads at Adobe.
Some light reading for you, courtesy of the site search: https://forums.adobe.com/search.jspa?q=%22+not+writable+and+cannot+be+opened%22&place=%2Fp laces%2F1383621&depth=ALL
It would help to know your OS.

• Mac 10.7, when I close firefox window and later open firefox window it opens with blank page in English

After closing a window with sidebar bookmarks open and later returning to firefox I have to open a new window and re-add my sidebar bookmarks

Hi Andis.
First of all, this is completely normal behavior, although it's a bit irritating, I know. What happens is that when you close Firefox, despite the window disappearing right there and then, Firefox keeps running for a little bit until the whole closing procedure is completed. This can take a fraction of a second on fast computers, or can take a few seconds on slow computers or when Firefox is storing a large session (if you save your tabs). All you have to do is wait a bit until Firefox closes, and then open it again.
To see if it's still running, you can press CTRL+SHIFT+ESC and then, under the Processes tab, you can see if firefox.exe is still there. If it's taking an unusual amount of time to close (which happens very rarely, and only if the browser freezes on exit), you can force the application to terminate from this application (task manager).
Firefox 4.0 will reduce by 97% the time it takes firefox.exe to close, so this problem will be basically erased for Firefox's next version.
Until then, I can recommend you this extension, which helps you restart your browser more easily and without bothering about closing times:
https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/3559/
Hopefully this will help.

• I can't get firefox to open at all. I can't get it open to do anything on the firefox window such as open it in the safe mode.

A small screen tells me firefox was shutdown and windows was looking for a solution. I deleted Firefox and downloaded another Firefox program and installed it. The same thing happened. What do I do. Windows said it could be a DEP problem. I have no idea what that is. I can open Windows Explorer and use but I don't really like it. Help!!!

OK - undo the changes you made to DEP.
Open Firefox - take a screenshot of any message that appears and post back here

• Why doesn't ANYTHING appear in the firefox window when i open it?

Firefox opens up EMPTY. Black screen. Minimize/Expand/Close buttons still there. Nothing else. Clicking in the upper portion reveals that the buttons still EXIST but if i say, found "options" and clicked it, i get a new and utterly useless popup window. (all black, again, just mini/close option)
Fix this? Otherwise urging my client to permanently switch to chrome (and billing anyway! woohoo!)
Thanks

hello mattinitus, other users with this problem all had an embedded intel hd3000 graphics card with an old driver present. in case this also applies to you, here would be a link to update the driver, which in turn should also address the black firefox problem: https://downloadcenter.intel.com/Detail_Desc.aspx?DwnldID=23764 (for win7 64 bit)
in case this doesn't solve the issue or does not apply to the system, start firefox into safemode '''by pressing the shift key while the application is launching''' & disable hardware acceleration in the firefox ''menu ≡ > options > advanced > general'' (that setting will take a restart of the browser to take effect).

• Firefox suddenly won't start. I open it on my Mac, I see the Apple icon and Firefox where a menu bar should be, but that's it. My only option is to Force Quit. Firefox windows won't open at all. Any advice?

As you can read above, that's it. The only thing I can think of is that I did a Microsoft update and then my Firefox stopped working. It won't start up. Windows and tabs won't open. It's completely unresponsive. I have uninstalled and reinstalled new and old Firefox, yet I have the same problem.

You may also want to check if Firefox is executable via its icon in the [http://kb.mozillazine.org/Installation_directory installation directory].

• Some apps say "The application " " cannot be opened" ?????!?!?!?

Ok, about 20% of my apps when clicked on now give this message, only since the last time I turned the phone off and then back on. What is going on? I get a blue pop up box saying this when I try to open these apps. Tried hard restart, ect nothing works!

This happened to me after I installed the 2.1 update. The suckiest part is that you have to delete each app that does this from the phone and re-download them from the apps store. What a PITA!

• How to stop Firefox windows from rapid fire opening.

When trying to go from Pandora to iTunes to purchase a song... the first window to open is the preview window. No problem. BUT, when i try to go from that window to the iTunes store a cascade of FireFox windows start to open rapid fire w/ no stop. Have to crash out and reboot the confuser to stop the window from continuing to open ad infnitium. This just started when i was asked to associate a program w/ iTunes for some reason... Maybe a new version glitch? I cannot find anywhere in options or preferences to change or stop FireFox from goin' wild. Help me... please...

It could be a bug in the Flash Player plugin, caused by the protected mode feature. This thread has the background on that and known workarounds: [https://support.mozilla.org/questions/955659 Opening New Windows and Shockwave Flash].
