Some of my iPhone (3G) Keys Don't Work When Typing a Text/E-Mail/Note/Etc.

So today I ran down to the apple store (for the 3rd day in a row) to get a new iPhone 3G since my previous one had a hardware problem. Just to let everyone know, the problem wasn't my fault so don't say something like be more careful.
Anyways, I got the new iPhone and took it home. I restored it from my last backup. So I go and send a text to a friend to tell him that I went out and got it. Now when I try and send this text, I can't use the "S" key, the "E" key, the "W" key, or the "." period key on the phone. I've tried restoring, restarting, hard rebooting, etc. I just can't figure out how to get it to work.
I'm NOT running out of my way for the 4TH DAY IN A ROW to go back down to the apple store for them to annoy me again. I honestly loved apple before all the flaws with my products. Now its just getting old.
Back on topic, any idea what to do?

Basic troubleshooting from the User's Guide is reset, restart, restore (first from backup then as new).  Try each of these in order until the issue is resolved.

  • Why some audio of the keynote widget don't work when I preview on the iPad??!!

Now I am making a book about helping people learning Chinese Pinyin (the Chinese phonics).
And I made some interactive exercise with keynote widget, that is you first see a vowel, and there are four colored boxes which have four different sounds, you can just click each box to hear what sound it is, and click the check mark to select your answer. one exercise includes about 7 this kind of questions.
The problem is it works perfectly on keynote, but some sounds just lost every time when I preview on iPad!!
The OS x is 10.8.4, the ibooks author is 2.0, the keynote is 5.3, and I am using the latest iMac and iPad 3.
And the audio file is .m4a. It seems everything is just fine, I feel very frustrated!! Is there something I missed,?
PS, I downloaded a free ibook, which called Korean Phonics, they used the same way to make this exercise, it works very well!! There must be a solution!!
Please let me know if you know how to solve this problem!!!
    Thanks a lot!!!

I can not try it on a Mac right now but I will do it tomorrow.
I put an other keyboard (usb-logitech) and it works perfect.
What I also tried to say is that I didn't do anything wrong on my brand new keyboard ( This iMac is a Month old ).
I also wanted to know if there was known problems linked to wireless keyboards...
    Thanks a lot.

  • Some Email addresses in Address Book don't appear when typing into Mail

Every now and then I start to type a name in the To: field in Mail when I know that name and address is in Address Book. The spelling is right and the sytax is right but there is no way that mail will recognize its existence. What can I do about this?

I am talking about the function as described in http://manuals.info.apple.com/en_US/Pages09_UserGuide.pdf Chapter 11 from page 246 to 252.
In my address book under Settings - Accounts I have two accounts. One is the Exchange Server and one is Local.
The addresses stored on the Exchange server appear complete and sound in Addressbook and exactly like the ones stored local. So from this side everything is fine.
But when I want to merge addresses from Addressbook in a Pages document then the Name, Company, Title appears correct, but Street (Work), ZIP (Work), City (Work) doesn't appear if it is an address that is stored on the Exchange account. If the address is stored on the Local account then it comes complete. In Addressbook both addresses come complete and don't show any difference.
So it isn't quite true that Addressbook is not designed to import data stored in another application, because part of the address is coming.
The Exchange account on Addressbook works exactly the same than the Local account. I can add data to the Exchange account and I can export data from it.

  • Arabic digits don't work when typing using arabic as a language

    Hi there,
I am designing a book in arabic. When I type numbers they are in Hindi (١،٢،٣...) format. I want the numbers to be typed in arabic (0,1,2,3...) because that's what is used in arabic.
In the "Middle East Character Formats" section of the "Paragraph style options" of the paragraph style I am using, I changed the Digits to "Arabic (0123456789)" but no change happened to my paragraph. The digits are still displayed in "Hindi" format.
I would appreciate it if someone helped me with this,
    Thanks in advance.

I changed the Digits to "Arabic (0123456789)" but no change happened to my paragraph. The digits are still displayed in "Hindi" format.
Are there any overrides on the paragraph? If there is a plus symbol next to the style name when you have selected some text in the paragraph, then the selected text doesn't match the Paragraph Style in some way. You'd need to clear the overrides (by right-clicking on the style name? I never remember, I assigned a keyboard shortcut because I spend so much time clearing overrides) to get the text to return to the style you defined.
It could also be a character style that has an overt "Hindi digits" definition. Are there any character styles applied?
I am designing a book in arabic. When I type numbers they are in Hindi (١،٢،٣...) format. I want the numbers to be typed in arabic (0,1,2,3...) because that's what is used in arabic.
    Um, what?
I usually see Hindi numerals used in Arabic. Because I set type for an Arabic-reading population in the US, my translators often like to use both numeral systems within the same document. (You know, Arabic for phone numbers and street numbers, but Hindi for everything else.) But when I read documents that come from places where Arabic is the dominant or sole language, the numerals are almost always exclusively in Hindi format. So maybe I'm not understanding what you say here, but it sounds incorrect to me.

  • Enter key doesn't work when typing in url

I recently updated my Firefox to 4.0. And now, when I type in url's into the location bar, I can no longer press enter on my keyboard to launch the website. I have to go up to the green arrow to make it go to the webpage. But when I launch firefox in safe mode, without any of the add-ons enabled, it works. I've tried disabling all the add-ons while normally using firefox but it doesn't work still. I've even uninstalled, and re-installed firefox to see if it would help but it still doesn't work.

yep it's the AVG add-on. stupid thing to troubleshoot.

  • My iPhone's speakers don't work

My iPhone's speakers don't work when I play music or the sounds of apps, but if I get a call they work. What can I do?
Some people told me they can change my phone because it's a hardware problem, but I bought at USA, I live Peru. thanks

The iPhone includes a single speaker.
If no change after restoring the iPhone with iTunes - especially after restoring as a new iPhone or not from the backup, the iPhone has a hardware problem.
The iPhone includes a one year warranty and for an iPhone purchased in the U.S., the warranty will be honored in the U.S. only.

  • Several keys don't work properly on my MacbookPro keyboard, How can I fix it?

Whenever i press the enter key it writes the letter p and a space, the same with the P key, also the 0 and the ' key don't work at all. If it's not a hardware problem how can i fix this? I really need help because i've tried everything but I havent been able to make my keyboard work right, I have a MacbookPro fron the lates 2012 runing Mavericks.

    Jekems,
when you say that “you’ve tried everything”, does everything include having made an appointment at an Apple store to have them diagnose the problem?

  • Arrows and page up/down keys don't work (also not in previous version)

Arrow and page up/down keys don't work. Problem started a fe2w months ago; upgraded to Beta but it made no difference. Sorry to report that they work fine in Internet Explorer but i DO NOT want to switch. Thanks!

    IU'm curious if this is a 'getting used to Macs' issue;
I'm on my first Mac [and OS X] as well, and to
me tthese friggin keys "don't work" either.
That is, they do not do anything useful, like
go to the start or end of a text field. The
keys do function, though. Home goes to the start
of a document, and end goes to the end. Seems
silly to me; how often do you go to the start
or end of a document, versus the start or end
of a line? Two points off your usability rating,
    Apple
Anyways, if this [the keys doing different things
under Mac] is the issue, see if Apple-Left Arrow
and Apple-Right Arrow do what you're expecting
    Home and End to do.

  • Some of my keys don't work and now I can't login

Yesterday I accidentally spilled some liquid on my keyboard. A vey small amount and generally my computer is fine. I used q tips and paper towels to clean under the keys as best I could, turned it off, and put it in rice. unfortunately a few of my keys don't work--u i j k " : m < . The rest of the keyboard is fine and when I checked my laptop was still working fine. I"ll buy condensed air, and then pop off the keys and clean it if necessary. But I figured even if it didn't fix the problem I'm not buying a new laptop right now so I would just work around the missing keys. But I decided to restart my laptop and now I'm stuck on the login screen bc my password requires some of those keys. I was hoping to use my appleId to get in but I'm never prompted for it after entering wrong passwords. I was going to create a new user and bypass the password but the commands to do that also require those keys. I don't have access to my
    installation discs.
    Other options?

Start Firefox in <u>[[Safe Mode|Safe Mode]]</u> to check if one of the extensions (Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance).

After I reinstalled xorg-server 1.5.3-1 and installed xf86-input-evdev 2.0.1-1 and xf86-input-keyboard 1.3.1-1 some of my keys don't work and keyboard layout screwed up. • Some keys don't work in combination with Shift

Okay  so I have the Pavilion Sleekbook  15-b011nr
    Serial Number:   [Personal Information Removed]
    Product Number:   C6N92UA
and today I noticed certain keys don't work in combination with the left Shift for example, Shift+S (both left and right), Shift+M, Shift+Z, Shift +X, Shift+C don't work, shift+F does work but gives me this FV. same with j it gives me JM instead. I installed an updated bios, ran a diagnostic test using F2 and under the compenant test for the keyboard it failed and gave me this
    keyboard test failed
    failure Id # U375BD-6m96P5-MFPX1F-G03B03
    product id # C6N92Ua#aba
now while trying to type all this I found other letters now working as well as me not being able to input the semicolon with either shift key. frustrating since I got this laptop in June so it's still under warranty. Has anyone else encountered this problem and if so how do i fix mine? I'm pretty tech savvy so feel free to let me know, or is my only option is a replacement from HP?
    Thanks!

  • What can I do if my function keys don't work correctly?

QuestionWhat can I do if my function keys don't work correctly?
AnswerFunction keys can mean a few different things. You might be having a problem with the F-keys near the top of your keyboard (F1, F2, etc.), the secondary functions of the F-keys (toggling the wireless or touchpad, for example), or special media keys on your laptop.
There are a few steps you can take to try to resolve these issues. Try the suggestions listed below in the order presented. If a step fixes the problem, you're done! If a step doesn't fix your problem, continue to the next step.
    Understand the FN key
First, ensure you understand how to use the FN key. In most newer models, the special utilities of the F-keys are used when you press the F-keys. To use the F-keys, you need to hold FN first. In older models, this was reversed. pressing the F-keys activated the F-keys. The special utilities of the F-keys are used while holding FN. If you're having trouble using your F-keys, try both with and without the FN key.
Reinstall TVAP or Toshiba Flash Cards Utility
Some models may use the Toshiba Value Added Package or the Toshiba Flash Cards Utility. Check the support site to see if these utilities are available for your model. If you see either listed, download and install it. Some models don't use these utilities; it's okay if you don't see either of them.

  • Next / Previous media keys don't work on 3rd Party Keyboard, Play/Pause does work. [MAC]

    Hello!
So I am using a Logitech G710+ keyboard with my Mac (running 10.9) , and the media keys (Play/Pause, Stop, Next and Previous) work perfectly fine with iTunes, even in background.
Now, when I use Spotify, I usually quit iTunes (to stop conflicts), but only the Play/Pause key seems to work.
It does work in the background, which is good, but crucially the Next / Previous keys don't work at all.
    Any ideas?

So I have the exact same issue as everyone else here.  I have a Logitech K750 wireless keyboard running Yosemite on my MBP. I don't necissarily think this issue resides with Spotify, but instead with Logitech.  If I use the media keys on my MBP I am capable of using Next/Previous even when Spotify is in the background.  On the wireless keyboard only Play/Pause and the Volume buttons work.  I think the issue is with the key mapping with the Logitech. Then again, I don't know how the code is written.  Maybe Spotify missed an alternative key map for the media buttons.  I didn't write the code.... The logitech forum is a ghost town for this issue though.  Only post I found was 5 years old. EDIT: With further reasearch I DO believe the problem lies with Spotify.  A tech for Logitech explained to me that Spotify wrote some "interesting" code for the keymap functionality for its Mac client.  A quick Google search shows that it is not only Logitechs experiencing this issue.  It would be great if we could get someone to look into this.  It isn't critical, but it sure would be nice to get fixed.

  • Macbook pro 13inch,mid2010 qwertyu keys don't work after upgrade os x Yosemite

macbook pro 13inch,mid2010 qwertyu keys don't work after I upgrade os x 10.10 Yosemite. but it works on keyboard viewer. I'm not sure if it's hardware or software problem, how can I fix it?

    Hello there, kipolo.
Great job using the Keyboard viewer to troubleshoot your issue so far. The following Knowledge Base article provides a great checklists of steps to pinpoint the issue a bit further:
One or more keys on the keyboard do not respond - Apple Support
Some keys don't work as expected
From the Apple menu, choose System Preferences.
From the View menu, choose Speech.
Click the Text to Speech tab.
If "Speak selected text when the key is pressed" is enabled, the key or key combination set to speak text cannot be used for other purposes or used to type text--click Set Key and change it to a less-commonly used key combination (try to use modifier keys such as Shift, Command, Option, and Control). Or, disable the "Speak selected text when the key is pressed" option.
Click the Accessibilty or Universal Access pane in System Preferences, then click the Keyboard tab.
Make sure that Slow Keys is turned off. With Slow Keys on, you need to press a key for a longer period of time for it to be recognized.
In the Accessibilty or Universal Access pane, click the Mouse tab, and make sure Mouse Keys is turned off. With Mouse Keys enabled, you cannot use the Numeric Keypad to enter numbers--instead the keypad moves the pointer (cursor). (There is an option to enable Mouse Keys with five presses of the Option key; you may want to turn that option off to avoid accidentally enabling it.) If Mouse Keys is enabled and you are using a keyboard with no numeric keypad or Num Lock function, see Unable to type while Mouse Keys is enabled in Mac OS X.
If the function keys on the top row of the keyboard are not working as expected, see Mac OS X: How to change the behavior of function keys.
If the issue persists, use Keyboard Viewer to help isolate the issue:
Click the Language & Text pane (Mac OS X v10.6) or International pane (Mac OS X v10.5.8 or earlier) in System Preferences.
Click the Input Sources tab (or Input Menu tab in Mac OS X 10.5.8 or earlier).
Click the Keyboard & Character Viewer "On" checkbox to select it (click the Keyboard Viewer "On" checkbox in Mac OS X 10.5.8 or earlier).
From the Input (flag) menu, choose Show Keyboard Viewer.
If the keyboard is connected and detected by OS X, the keys you type will highlight in the Keyboard Viewer window. Open TextEdit (or any text application), and try to type something using the keys that were previously not responding to see if they highlight in Keyboard Viewer.
Start from the Mac OS X Install Disc, choose Terminal from the Utilities menu and test the keys which were previously not working.  If the keys work while started from the Install disc, then the keyboard itself is working correctly.  Use How to troubleshoot a software issue to isolate the software issue that may be causing the keys to not respond.
Thanks for reaching out to Apple Support Communities.
    Cheers,
    Pedro.
