Some of my iTunes match songs are greyed out on my iPhone

Hello,
I've had iTunes match since it came out, and it was shaky at first, but started getting pretty reliable a few months ago. However, the last few albums I've added to iTunes match have not been added to the cloud. The songs appeared as "Waiting" for several days until I right clicked and clicked add to iCloud. Once I did that, they showed up on my iPhone and iPad, but now are greyed out on both, even though their iCloud status says "Uploaded".
It gets worse. The last album I dragged into iTunes is stuck on "Waiting". When I right click, I no longer have the ability to add them to iCloud (this may be due to the Yosemite beta – the issue with the greyed out songs has been occurring for a few weeks before I upgraded, though). These songs don't appear on my iPad or iPhone (which I expect), but they do appear on my MacBook. However, when I click to play or download them, nothing happens.
This is very strange behavior, one thing worth noting is, I just crossed 1,000 songs for this artist (I'm a fanatic). I'm not sure if there's a limit of songs per artist, and I haven't counted exactly how many songs are greyed out, but the numbers are definitely close.

Have a look at this: iTunes Store: Troubleshooting iTunes Match
But yes, if you are running OS X beta, you very well could have issues. You should inquire about that in the Developer forums.

Songs are greyed out on my iPhone 5 even though they were working before. I bought them on iTunes
    How do I fix

A song with an iCloud icon has not been downloaded so cannot be deleted. You can prevent it from showing on the iPhone but you can't delete a song that has not been transferred from your iTunes library or that has not been downloaded from iCloud.
Any chance some of the songs were purchased twice - once in the past from a different album and again recently?
To prevent iCloud songs from appearing on the iPhone, go to Settings > iTunes & App Store and under Show All, turn  Music off.

  • Songs are greyed out on new iphone

I got a new iphone and a bunch of my songs are greyed out and I cannot play them.

More advanced security on a device as sophisticated as
an iPhone I can live with. This lack of functionality however
is for me a bit of a let down. Given how powerful the device and
it's os is I would have thought providing read only access to certain
files would not have been difficult. The same applies to
blocking the transfer of these files via any other mechanism
than iTunes. Please don't take this the wrong way, I am very
impressed with the iPhone. I was just frustrated when I sat down
in front of my laptop to find I could not plug in the phone and listen
to music via iTunes. This one function that make it dare I say it
keep pace with an mp3 player.

  • I transfered my purchases from my iphone to my mac. All transfers completed. One particular album shows up on the phone but the songs are greyed out and don't play. Itunes shows album as purchased but album is not in my Mac library.

I transfered my purchases from my iphone to my mac. All transfers completed. One particular album shows up on the phone but the songs are greyed out and don't play. Itunes store shows album as purchased but album does not show up in my Mac library. How can I retrieve the album.

So i've found the answer to this by clicking on every menu and setting in the itunes store. It turns out some purchases in the cloud can be hidden probably as the result of an interrupted transfer/sync/backup or a network outage. To unhide purchases 'greyed out ' items , go to the Itunes store (on the PC) click on your account name and select view account. (you'll be prompted for your itunes password) once you are in scroll down to the purchase history section. there should be an option for hidden purchases. click through and click on unhide purchases, redownloadble purchases. any hidden purchases will then show up. click on unhide to reactivate and download. This may only work for purchases in the cloud.
    hope others find this useful.

  • All my songs are greyed out on my iPod except for the songs in my itunes library

I have over 10,000 songs on my ipod touch and when I connect to my Macbook Pro and go to itunes it states that there are over 10,000 songs on my ipod, but when I click to play them a little exclamation mark appears before it. (As it does when the source cannot be found.) At the bottom of itunes it still shows a large blue Audio bar stating that I have over 10,000 songs on it somewhere, but I cannot play them. When disconnecting from Itunes the artists and albums are all showing, but as soon as I go into an album all the songs are greyed out. This only just happened yesterday when adding a few extra songs I downloaded to my itunes and dragged and dropped them to my ipod.
Please help me, the data should be on the ipod somewhere, but for some reason I cannot reach it. I do not have a backup, so this is really annoying
    Thanks for any help

The grey-out ones may not be recoverable.

  • TS1424 When I ave network coverage, my wi if drops out. I am only able to access my music on my phone when I have no network signal, otherwise all songs are greyed out

I can only access my wi if, when I have no network signal. As soon as I move to a better signal area, my wi Di connection drops out.
I have music on my phone, but again, I cannot access this in the gym, when I have a network signal.
I also cannot access some of my apps, as they are greyed out. Please advise

Grey text when you look at the content and a lock symbol at the bottom of the screen just indicates that the iPod is set to sync automatically with iTunes. If you want to connect an iPod to multiple computers, play the iPod songs through iTunes, delete songs from the iPod, drag songs from iTunes, add playlists to the iPod etc. you need to change the update setting to "manually manage songs and videos". The text will change from grey to black and everything will be directly accessible through iTunes:
    Managing content manually on iPod
    Using iPod with Multiple computers
    Syncing Music to iPod
Something to remember about using an iPod in manual mode is that the "Do Not Disconnect" message will remain on the display until you physically eject the device: Safely Disconnect IPod

  • New 6th generation ipod - loaded my library onto the iPod  all songs are greyed out and I cannot add a playlist.

I have purchased a new 6th generation ipod and registered it with Apple- it has loaded all my library onto the iPod but when the library is displayed all songs are greyed out and I cannot add a playlist. Can anyone help me ?

The content that you are viewing on your Nano via iTunes is grayed out since your iPod is set up for automatic syncing with your iTunes library.  If you want to be able to manually manage your contents (which is sounds like you are trying to do), you must enable the Manually manage music option from under your iPod's Summary tab in iTunes.

  • Songs are "greyed out"

i loaded songs on this ipod (belongs to my friend) from my itunes.  now she's not able to play these songs and the songs are "greyed out" in the playlist i created.

I plugged in my device (iPhone 4) and went to file, next go to the devices section and click transfer purchases from device section (it will have your devices name) then wait patiently. All my songs went from grey to black and were synced onto my phone. I really hoped this helped and didn't just magically work for me!

    jhl1951,
Is the Shuffle still configured to manually sync content to it?  You can check by making sure the proper configuration is made from under the Shuffle's Summary tab in iTunes while it's connected.

  • HT201272 Some songs are greyed out while others are black. What does this mean and how can I change it? I'm tired of only 2 or 3 songs from an album repeating while the others disappear off the "Up next".

Please help....I hate iTunes to begin with. Especially the latest they have come up with. Layout drives me crazy. And now....I find maybe a couple of songs in an album as "black" and the other titles are greyed out. What does this mean? I find it very frustrating as the black titles will repeat but the others seem to just disappear off the "play next" list. How can I fix this? And no...downloading from iCloud hasn't helped any.

This sounds like you have some unchecked tracks. These are skipped during track to track playback. The track names are slightly greyed out in the album view. You can normally see the check boxes from the Songs view or you can change the status via the rght-click context menu.

  • Songs are greyed out. Error -5000

My songs will not sync to my iPhone. They are still located in my iTunes and play just fine, however they also show up in my phone, only they are "greyed out" and I cannot play them from the device. When I sync the iPhone, I always get an "Unknown Error -5000" about half way through and then it basically stops the entire sync. I have tried rebooting both the computer and iPhone and also I have restored the iPhone to a new phone, still nothing seems to be getting this to work and nothing on google says anything about this error.

I plugged in my device (iPhone 4) and went to file, next go to the devices section and click transfer purchases from device section (it will have your devices name) then wait patiently. All my songs went from grey to black and were synced onto my phone. I really hoped this helped and didn't just magically work for me!

  • Updated IOS and iTunes now songs are greyed on iPod Touch

    Hello,
I've searched all over for a resolve to this problem. I've tried everything from removing all my music from my iPod, wiping my iPod, to removing quicktime and iTunes and reinstalling. However the issue still persists.
    The Problem:
About a month ago I ripped an album and attempted to put it on my iPod. All the songs showed up, but only the first song was playable, the rest were grey on the iPod. I chalked it up to a user error on my part, no big I could fix it.
About a week ago I tried to add another album to my iPod, same story, all the songs show up, but only the first in the album is playable. I removed both albums at this time, and did a sync. After doing the sync A LOT of my songs wouldn't show up. Usually just the first song in an album would be playable, the rest grey. After my restore, and iTunes delet/reinstall my iPod doesn't even get that far. I think I'll have about 15 songs out of 3500 that are playable.
When I go to the music tab in iTunes under my iPod the songs that don't transfer have a little grey circle with arrows in it next to them. Not sure what that's all about...
I know that they songs are getting to my iPod because in the summary in iTunes it shows I have 23 gigs of music.
I'm using a 4th Gen iPod touch, newest IOS and newest iTunes as of Saturday, November 17th, 2012.
I'm at a loss right now. I go from having ALL my music on my iPod to next to none.
    So, what's the fix?
    Thanks,
    Jacob

That didn't really fix the issue. However I did half way fix it by deleting all the music in my iTunes library, then adding them again. Not sure what was going on, but it's fixed now.
    Thanks!

  • TS1717 I have logged onto Itunes and all my songs are greyed out and I cannot play any of them.

I have paid for a year to have Itunes available on another computer but when I go in, all the songs are there but they seem to be greyed out and none of them will play.  I cant seem to find out what is wrong here.  I have checked my account and its all up to date.  I only have the two computers running on this scheme.  Any suggestions?  (I am not computer literate so please advise for a novice).  The main computer for Itunes is XP and the second computer is Windows 7.

    Try:
Syncing to a "New" Computer or replacing a "crashed" Hard Drive: Apple Support Communities
The grey-out ones may not be recoverable.

  • Itunes Match Songs are all there but won't play

I've been using iTunes Match at work pretty regulary and I've notived that, seemingly randomly, I'll open iTunes and all my music will be there... however doub;e-clicking a song or or hitting PLAY does nothing.  No error message; no nothing.  Th ePLAY button is isn't ghosted or anything.
I've tried goifn Store . Update iTunes Match.  That doesn't work.  The only thing that seems to work is turning match completely off and then back on again.
Any idea why this would be happening?

Well the odd thing is that everything works perfectly fine most of the time.  However, 10% of te time, Match enterest his stange state where songs won't play.  Nothing changes in the iCloud Status field.  You can even edit metadata like rating and song-names.  Songs just won't play... nor will they download.
Based on the above, I don't think it's a corportate firewall issue  (neither does my IT guy).
