Some of my songs suddenly need to be located
Hello
Ive been using my iTunes for a few months now without a single problem. Two days ago I opened iTunes and suddenly some of my songs could not longer be located. A dialog box opened asking me if I would like to locate them myself, and I had no trouble finding them (in my shared folder). But, its a very long process finding each individual song. Is there another way for this problem to be solved? Why did this happen?
Also, for reference, I do not recall making any changes to my iMac or iTunes that would cause this to happen.
Thank you so much for your help and dedication to helping the uninformed people out there like myself. Its greatly appreciated
Hi Jason,
I was wondering if your answer for Sarah applied to my situation ?
I save my iTunes music on an external drive in folders labeled Backup Disc 1, 2... up to 24. each folder I allow to get to 4.2 GB than start a new save location in iTunes (for DVD back up purposes).
I have alot of playlists sorted etc.
I need to move my music folders to another external drive.
Would the same apply but I'd have to do it for each folder ? (loading itunes & holdin down ALT 24 times).
Any help is appreciated.
Thanks
J

Some of my songs in iPad Mini with RD disappeared all the sudden and I need to redownload it again. Same thing happen to my iPod touch 5 too. What's wrong with it? Is it the iOS problem?
Delete the music in your iTunes library, then go to iTunes store, Quick Link, 'Purchased' to redownload again.

I have more than one copy of the same song in my iTunes. Some have the icloud symbol next to them and some do not. I need to clean this up but I am afraid to delete the songs for fear I will lose them. Please help! On top of that my Mac keeps telling me my start up disc is full and I am deleting stuff like crazy!
Welcome to the Discussion Forums
It won't be a problem if you delete your extra copies.
I don't download very much to my tv, I do sometimes if I'm in bed but usually I do it from itunes. However if you have not fully downloaded something to the tv it is possible to start the download from itunes as well, you have likely activated 'check for downloads fin itunes in some way, could be by opening itunes, selecting 'check or downloads' from the advanced menu or that you simply have automatically check for downloads set in your prefs and it has checked coincidentally. -
ALL OF A SUDDEN IT SAYS IT CANNOT LOCATE SOME OF MY SONGS BUT THEY STILL APPEAR IN MY LIBRARY ANY WAY TO GET THEM BACK
Your only way is if you have the version that was compatible on your computer such as in the recycle bin/trash or in a computer file backup. In that case delete the current version that is in your iTunes App library and replace it with the older version. Then sync.

My Ipod doesn't show some of the songs I have? Please I need an answer
My Ipod is perfectly organized by Artists and when I select some of them, few song are shown; for example I have 10 songs of The Doors and it only shows 4. If I search them, with the search feature, they appear. How do I fiz this?
There are usually two things that contribute to songs not appearing under Artist on the iPod, both due to information either in or missing from the Get Info>Info tab against the song in iTunes. 1) the song has no album name associated with it or 2) the song is marked as part of a compilation.
If tracks are missing an Album name in the Info tab, this information needs to be filled in. The no album one is a bit quirky as the songs will appear under certain circumstances but the simplest remedy is just add None or Miscellaneous in place of a title. See this link for more detail: I don't see some of my songs when browsing by artist on my iPod
Also if the tracks are ticked in the Get Info>Info tab as part of a compilation, they will not appear under Artist on the iPod. Highlight a song in iTunes that you know is not appearing correctly on your iPod. Right click on it and choose Get Info and click the Info tab (alternatively choose Get Info from the File menu), if "Part of a Compilation" is marked untick it and afterwards update your iPod, you should find it now appears as normal. Compilations are stored in a separate folder in iTunes so the songs don't appear inside the normal Artist>Album folder.
I've also seen a problem quoted that seems to be related to the “Album Artist” field in the info tab. If you have multiple songs from the same artist and one of these songs for instance has the artist name in the Album Artist field, then the songs that display on the iPod under the Artists list are restricted to that one.
The no album one is a bit quirky. If all songs have no album, you can view them all under Music -> Artist. Also, if you have songs from two albums or more and songs with no album, it works. However if there are songs from one album and songs with no album they don't show. -
I've purchased some songs from the itune store a while back and they played fine on my iphone and my computer. Just last night I tried listening to a playlist I created and some of the songs wouldn't play. They wouldn't work in itunes on the computer or the iphone. I tried deleting the songs from my phone and re-syncing them and it didn't work. I've not tried resetting the phone completely. Not sure what I should do now. Those songs cost a bit a money and I've tried already to access the cloud to see if they were there. What should I do??

You may need to restore your iPhone.
If it won't restore, try here. http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1808
If nothing helps, you need to contact Verizon for information for an exchange or refund. This is a user to user forum, not Apple.
Apple's policy for a refund or exchange is within 14 days of purchase. Verizon's policy may be different.
Definitely try restoring .. hopefully you won't have to go through the hassle of an exchange. -
I recently did the update for iTunes and after I did that I got the error message: MSVCR80.dll file not found. I followed the suggestions from someone in this community to fix it and now some of my songs aren't playing. And they are the ones that I purchased from iTunes not CDs that I have and ripped to my iTunes library. I can see the songs listed in my iTunes library as well as on my iPod but yet they won't play. On my computer I get the message that this computer is unauthorized to play them and to authorize it. I only have one computer, so I have no idea why I'm getting this message. And does anyone have any suggestions as to how to get all of the iTunes songs to play again?
Hello Angel82co,
It sounds like you have some songs in your library that are not playing, and when you try to play them you are being told the computer is not authorized to play them. I would start by verifying that your computer is still authorized, and take note of the Apple ID that you sign in with:
To authorize a computer, follow these steps:
Open iTunes.
Choose Store > Authorize This Computer from the menu bar.
You may need to show the menu bar to see this option in Windows. In earlier versions of iTunes, you can access this option from the Advanced menu.
Enter your Apple ID and click Authorize.
If your Apple ID uses an expired MobileMe account, you can still authorize your computer.
From: iTunes Store: Authorize or deauthorize your Mac or PC
http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1420
If the issue persists, next I would use the following article to double check that these songs were purchased under the same Apple ID you used to authorize the computer:
Recovering a forgotten iTunes Store account name
http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1920
Open iTunes
Highlight one of the items you have purchased (You can find your purchases in your Purchases playlist).
Choose File > Get Info.
Click the Summary tab.
The Account Name area will list the account used to purchase the item. Unless you have changed accounts, this is your iTunes Store account name.
If it is the same Apple ID then I would next delete the song, and re download it from your purchased history, with this article named:
iTunes 11 for Windows: Download previous purchases from the iTunes Store

Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.
All the best,

i bought an album from the itunes store and some of the songs did not download the whole length... why? and how do i fix this?
Delete the incomplete tracks from your library, sending them to recycle bin, then download them again from your purchased history. If the problem persists use the "report a problem" links from your account history to contact the iTunes store support staff.
Are the incomplete tracks ones that you had previewed before purchasing the album? If so there may be a bug that needs reporting. See this recent post which explains why I ask the question...

I have a music library on an iMac and I got a new iPhone and a new MacBook Pro and I want some of the songs from the iMac library to be on my phone and my MacBook Pro and I have a new Apple ID on my phone and my Mac book pro, is this possible if so how do I do it?
Providing specifics on all the ways to do this will take more time than I am willing to spend here these days. You can do some of this with Home Sharing. You can transfer the entire library from one computer to another, If you do that you can delete what you don't want from the transferred library.
Quick answer if you use iTunes' default preferences settings: Copy the entire iTunes folder (and in doing so all its subfolders and files) intact to the other drive. Open iTunes and immediately hold down the option (alt) key (shift on Windows) so you get a prompt to select a library, then guide it to the 'iTunes Library.itl' file in the moved iTunes folder. If you put the copied iTunes folder in the default location of Macintosh HD > Users > *User Name* > Music then you don't even need to start with the option key held down, iTunes will automatically look for it there. (Make sure there isn't anything already in the iTunes folder there that you want to keep since you will be replacing it with the one you are moving.)
You do not want to use a new AppleID. Change the AppleID on the new phone to the old ID. Purchases made with one AppleID cannot be transferred to a different one and it will be a royal pain to manage two Apple IDs.
Change iTunes Store account on an iOS device - Log out of your current account with Settings.app > Store (Settings > iTunes & App Stores on iOS 6) > tap on your AppleID. Log in with a different account. Note, turning on automatic downloads or re-download past purchases may tie the device to that account for 90 days - http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4627 https://discussions.apple.com/message/18484935 - "In order to change your Apple ID or password for your iCloud account on your iOS device, you need to delete the account from your iOS device first, then add it back using your updated details. (Settings > iCloud, scroll down and hit "Delete Account") When you delete your account, all the data that is synced with iCloud will also be deleted from the device (but not from iCloud), but will be synced back to your device when you login again." -
i bought a new computer how can i get all my songs from ipod to new computer with out losing any of my music . some of my songs where not bought from itune but downloaded from cds
For non-iTunes purchases you need a third-party program like one of those discussed here:

I recently installed an upgrade to my Ipod Classic. I then installed some new Cd's. Now some of these songs skip. How can I fix this?
If you cannot remember the passcode for the Screen Lock, you will need to Restore the device...
1) Connect to iTunes on the computer you usually Sync with and Restore...
http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1414
2) If necessary Place the Device into Recovery mode...

I tried to transfer purchases from my iPod to a new computer, but for some of the songs it asks for a different Apple ID and password than mine. Ideas?
You definitely need to resurrect the old password associated with the Apple ID you used to purchase the music.
Go here: https://iforgot.apple.com
An email will be sent to the email address associated with that account with instructions regarding resetting that Apple ID's password.
If you no longer have access to that email, the resolution to this problem becomes considerably more difficult. In that event you would need to contact iTunes Support and explain your dilemma. -
Why are some of my songs listed in red?
Why are some of the songs and albums listed in red in my library?
You tell us, did you do anything?
Install iTunes 11?
Put songs into a Playlist Folder?
Is the Playlist a Smart Playlist?
Number two, putting songs into a Playlist Folder is guaranteed to cause songs to be "lost" from the list, eventually.
So - if you need more help than the possible causes listed here, you need to tell us a bit more about the issue. One assumes for instance (since you've posted in the iTunes for Windows forum), that this is ocurring in iTunes. What devices are you Syncing with your iTunes Library, and what are the Playlists like on them? -

Some of my songs on iPhone are skipped and won't play
Some of my songs won't play on my iPhone. It will just skip over them and then I try and go back to play them it does nothing. All of my songs are downloaded from iTunes and at one point worked. I cannot figure out why some all of a sudden just won't play. I've tried re-syncing with my iTunes on my mac but that didn't help.
Hi, welcome to Apple Discussions.
The exclamation mark appears if the song has been moved, renamed, deleted or is at a location that is currently inaccessible such as a disconnected external drive or network share. You have to restore iTunes' access to the file before you can add it to a playlist.
