Some of the keys on my keyboard are unresponsive

turned on my mac book this morning to find that "back space, p,0,o f12," and a few other keys are unresponsive, and i haven't a clue as to why i h ave had this mac book for under 3 months and wanted to know 2 things, how do i go about fixing this and is it possible to get a replacemnt mac boo.. this could not have happend at a worst time

I have two MacBooks sitting at my desk. A black one (6 months old) and a white one (3 months old). The black one is performing like a charm, no problems at all, was all the way on 10.4 and is now (since 2 weeks) on 10.5 and running smooth and fine.
The white one is a beast. Since I bought it from the AppleStore (Austria) it makes troubles. Some not all of the keys are unresponsive and this seems to be random. First I thought I am a to fast typer, and I tried to be very careful and slow but when you enter your password for certain situations two or three times it gets boring.
Next is applications (firefox, Word 2004, Safari) do not load, opening them from the dock, let the app icon jump 30 times and then a dialog appaers that the application "XY..." has crashed. Would you like to report to Apple... grrr.
Folder opening is slow as molasse. A double click on a folder with (for example) ten subfolders inside) brings up the beachball spinning and takes (if the folder opens at all) 20 to 30 seconds and this is random reproducable.
In the meantime I have made about 5 to 7 completly fresh installs with 10.4 and 10.5, changed the two 512 RAMs, formatted the hard drive with 0 writes). There seems to be, nothing is of help. There seems also to be no real failure or any 3rd party software installed. All the software is from Apple (System, iLife and their respective updates.)
I will call Apple Customer Support next week and if they do not accept to send a replacement mac, I put up a video on youtube, because I have never have experienced a mac like this (in my 20+ mac carrier).
But this machine definitly is worst nightmare for someone who switched (like from PC to Mac).
best
Rob

    Fast answers:
    1. Try resetting NVRAM/PRAM and SMC. Doesn't usually 'cure' keyboard problems you report, but it costs nothing and only takes a few minutes.
    https://discussions.apple.com/thread/3819550?start=0&tstart=0
    2. Try plugging in a USB keyboard. Doesn't absolutely have to be a Mac keyboard. A PC keyboard will work for a test. If the typing problem does not occur with the USB keyboard, you have a temporary solution until you can arrange to visit a repair facility.
    3. If your MacBook is older and has a user-removable battery, shut down the computer, remove the battery, and examine it for signs of 'bulging' or swelling. Then connect the computer to the Magsafe power supply, without reinstalling the battery, and turn it back on. If the keyboard problem has gone away, it was likely caused by a swelling battery.

Hello, a few of the buttons on my Imac keyboard won't work for example the pause/play button and the volume buttons won't work and I don't know how to fix this?
    Thank you.

Have you bought a new keyboard to use on a slightly older Mac? The newest keyboards need OS X 10.6.8 for full functionality.
    Otherwise, go to System Preferences > Keyboard  and ensure this box isn't checked;

  • My volume control keys on my keyboard are not working.

All of the keys on my keyboard are working except for the f10, f11, and f12 keys (those which control the volume). I have tried to fix this problem in system preferences but can't seem to find a place to fix the problem. I have a macbook pro.

    try a pram reset
    Resetting PRAM
       Shut down the computer.
Locate the following keys on the keyboard: Command, Option, P, and R. You will need to hold these keys down simultaneously in step 4.
    Turn on the computer.
Press and hold the Command-Option-P-R keys. You must press this key combination before the gray screen appears.
Hold the keys down until the computer restarts and you hear the startup sound for the second time.
    Release the keys.

I sprayed it a year ago i really like the keyboard and i really need it can it be recovered??? My apple wireless keyboard got wet a year ago i sprayed the cleaning spray on it some of the keys are working but some of the keys aren"t working. it got sprayed a year ago What should i do??? Can it be recovered plz tell?

There is almost no chance it can be recovered, except at a cost far greater than a new keyboard.  Once wet, spraying with a cleaner will not do any good and most likely will make the situation worse.
Best thing at this point is go to your Apple store, or the on-line store, and buy a new keyboard.  Water damage is not covered by the warranty or AppleCare.

    Hello,
I have a problem with the keyboard of the device, some of the keys do not respond.
    What can I do?

    Try:
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Reset all settings (if you can)
Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.
    - Restore from backup
    - Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.
    - Make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store.

All new keyboards need Snow Leopard 10.6.8 and above for full functionality.
Rather short-sighted of Apple perhaps, but that seems to be a trend these days.
I'm afraid the only fix is to upgrade to SL. Personaly, I'd take it back and get a refund and seek an older keyboard or a third-party one elsewhere.

What do you do if some of your keys on your keyboard aren't working ?! Any suggestions ??

Yeah, a portable bluetooth keyboard is the cheapest solution. You can replace the top deck yourself without too much tinkering if you are a little mechanically minded. Most replacement services on the net charge from $150 to replace it. You can buy refurbished top decks from $50 or so. Unfortunately, the keyboard is part of the top case and not an individual part.
One thing to note: If you do decide to buy one and DIY, make sure you get the exact one for your model cos the connectors do vary slightly.

After the latest apple IOS upgrade my 3 apple products, an imac, a macbook air and a macbook, lost their contact with their external hard disks. They were LaCie make. And every time I turn my laptops, I find the positions of the keys on their  keyboards changed.  Why is Apple silent? There are so many people complaining about this issue and expecting Apple to correct this issue that they have created.

Probably because it's not an Apple issue. I have Lacie EHD's connected to my MBAir and iMac, all work perfectly on Mavericks. In addition I don't have any keyboard issues on any of my Apple products. BTW IOS is only for IOS devices such as iPads, iPods and iPhones, Macs use OS X. The two OS's are seperate  products designed to run on seperate products.
