Some of the songs on my iPod won't play anymore. Why?

Since I got the last software update some of my songs won't play at all. Some will, but most of them won't. Until the update I had no problems. I've seen similar discussions all over the internet and none of the proposed solutions work.
I've tried:
Converting my songs from MP3 to AAC.
Restarting my iPod.
Many have tried restoring there iPods to factory settings, even removing there music from iTunes, putting them back on then re-syncing, but that didn't help so I won't waste a good 6 to 8 hours (considering my large amount of music.)
If it helps I have an iPod Touch (4th Generation)

Well, then the answer seems to be that you've got corrupted music files in your library. This is why attempting to convert to AIFF fails in some instances. The only likely fix is to delete then re-import the tracks - assuming you have the CDs. If you do this, you should sync your iPod between deleting and re-ripping. I have over 12,000 songs in my library (all compressed - though MP3), and more than 90% were ripped from CDs using iTunes. The occasional issues I have experienced have been resolved by re-ripping.
I have found that - at least on a Windows PC - I get better results if I do not run any other processes when ripping music with iTunes.

How can I download a previously downloaded purchase to my iTunes library on my laptop when the listing for the song in my library won't play because it says it cannot locate the file. Yes I have searched my iTunes folders and also done a full windows search. The track plays on my iPad and my iPhones but will not play on my laptop!?
It has an "!" To the left of the song title in my library
My worry is that if I sync my iPad/iPhone then I will lose the track on those also!

If you cannot find the file on your hard drive then once you delete the current broken entry you should be able to redownload from iTunes in the Cloud. This assumes the item in question qualifies. Note that audiobooks, digital booklets, iTunes LPs & Extras, ringtones, selected movies etc. don't.
If prompted don't hide the item. You may find that you need to close and then reopen iTunes before it will appear for download.

  • The songs on my Ipod Classic wont play at all although you can feel and hear the machinery working hard. The tracks are not playng at all but you can see the Ipod rewinding them all and returning to the album. And this happens to the second IPOD I have!

The songs on my Ipod Classic wont play at all although you can feel and hear the machinery working hard. The tracks are not playng at all but you can see the Ipod rewinding them all and returning to the album. And this happens to the second IPOD I just got!

First off, I would STRONGLY suggest that a external hard drive would make you life much easier by at least being able to back up your songs on the external drive for when you need them. Even if you don't want them in the iTunes library, you can have them all ready on the external to be re-added as needed. You can get 100's of gigs for under $100 shipped.
Anyway, since you used Yamipod, are all the songs back on the computer? If so, I would go ahead and restore the iPod, let iTunes then resync everything back to the iPod, then switch it back to manual and see if the restore and resync clears up the issue.

    Hi,
As you have match, I suggest that you create a new library by holding ctrl whist launching iTunes. Select create new library. Sign into iTunes Store and activate match. You will now have access to your music and will be able to stream your music.
Options : get a new external drive formatted for mac and either download music from match or copy music from old drive to new one. Alternatively you could reformat old drive and download music from match - I would not be comfortable using this option as it means erasing drive before being able to use with mac.

  • TS1424 Some of the songs I downloaded on one album play for only 20 or so seconds.  Most of the songs are all there, but about a third only play the very beginning.

Some of the songs I downloaded do not play fully.  The first 20 or so seconds play, but then it goes to the next song.

Assuming you are in a region where you are allowed to redownload your past purchases, delete the current copy from your iTunes library, go to the iTunes Store home page, click the Purchased link from the Quick Links section in the right-hand column, then select Music and Not on this computer. You should find a download link for your track there.
If the problem persists, or that facility is not yet available in your region, contact the iTunes Store support staff through the report a problem links in your account history, or via Contact Support.

  • My computer is authorised however some of the songs that I have downloaded wont play?

I have just downloaded some music from Itunes. Some of the songs will play but some say that I need to authorise the computer. I put in the details, it comes up with a box that says 'the computer is already authorised and that I have used 4 or the 5 authorisations available' however the songs will not play. It a repeating loop, I click on the song and it tells me that I need to authorise again. All of the songs were downloaded at the same time to the same computer?

Interestingly I have been into the Itunes Store and looked at the items that I have downloaded and they seem to play fine. But in the library it keeps saying that I need to authorise the computer when it is already authorised. I have already deleted it and re-installed it but nothing...... When I go to the track that doesnt work there is nor Purchased By information (although the apple ID is present). The other songs that do work, do have the Purchased By information. Will this be the cause of the problem? how on earlth do I get around it?

  • The songs on my ipod won't sync on to itunes.

Try just redownloading them on your copmputer. Sounds like an Apple server problem.

  • Why aren't all the songs on my iPod available to play?

While all the music I want from iTunes is on my iPod, not all of the songs are available to play.

To be of any assistant for us to help, we need more info.
What is your iPod firmware version? (1.1.2 or 2.0.4)
Those no-play songs are they of the same format as the good iPod playable songs?
When you sync these no-play songs, does iTunes gives any message?
Note that some songs, can be played in iTunes but not on most iPod classic, with the exception of late 2009 model which has a firmware version 2.0.4.

  • Songs from 1G ipod won't play on 5G ipod

I recently upgraded to an 5G ipod from an 1G ipod, transferring my itunes library to the new ipod. A sizable number of tracks won't play on the new ipod. They just get skipped over. There doesn't seem to be anything exotic about the tracks, they were all ripped to AAC using itunes directly from the original CD.
For example, I've got an entire CD (Ken Burns Jazz, FWIW) where none of the tracks will play. If I try to play the entire album on the ipod the unit just skips from one track to the next, not playing any of them. They all play fine in iTunes.
I'd guess about 1/5 of my songs won't play, and so far I haven't been able to find a way to predict which tracks will or will not play, based on bit rate or any other specs.

ive had that issue, even tho i didnt transfer songs
this one time i deleted my itunes library files from my documents/mymusic by accident, and my itunes library was blank
i re added all my stuff back in, and then i plugged in ipod and like ur case, half the songs didng play. and plus, every song had the same album art. every single song that had an albumb art showed a ludacris red light district artwork.
i restored the ipod with the ipod software, and reloaded my whole library again.. took forever but it worked

  • HT1550 I purchased a song from iTunes on my iPhone, downloaded the song and now it won't play?

I purchased a song from iTunes on my iPhone, downloaded the song and now I am unable to play it on my iPhone. It just keeps skipping to the next song and won't play it on my iphone but rather only on my laptop.....

    Hey pnazaryan
If the purchased content is not playing, delete the songs from the Music app by swiping at the song. Then go through the process of downloading the track again.

  • When i press on shuffle to shuffle the songs on my ipod it will play a song and then after the song is done it wot go to the next song it will just replay the same song unless i press next how do i fix this?

Please help me!!!!! I cant figure it out!!!

The only thing I can think of is that you have selected the repeat song option as well. Repeat is on the left and is the 2 arrows making a closed oval. The Shuffle icon on on the right and has the 2 arrows crossing like an X. They "light up" blue when selected. The Repeat icon has 3 modes: off, repeat song and repeat album.
    Hope this helps!

  • What the? After downloading the "improved update" Star Trek WON'T play anymore!!!

    That's.
iTunes sent me a message indicating there was an update in the movie.  So like a good idiot I followed their instructions.
And now I can no longer watch the movie.
    Anyone?
The ONLY changes have been to iTunes (update) and the actual movie (updated per iTunes).  No other changes.
Apple Support is useless as always.  7 years of requests and not a single response in all that time.

Yeah the backup function has not worked very well.  I back up daily and with the iOS update it wiped EVERYTHING going back almost a year.  Restoring from the backup did the same.  Still a wee bit upset about that.
But back the movie...re-downloaded it againx3.  Should have kept the old old old version but don't like keeping multiple copies of movie file...and should not HAVE to.
    Still not working.
Really have no idea why it isn't working.
And for others..I don't think redoing a 4 GB download multiple times is something everyone can do routinely.  Or have the patience for.
Going back to my discs for now.

  • I can't delete the songs of My Ipod

+I really want to delete some of the songs on my ipod but I want to keep the Rest, I tried to follow the instructions in the Itunes Help but I cannot click on the songs to un-check them at all, The typing is all a light grey colour, not the normal Black.+

Best way to manage a small iPod like the Nano (by small I mean when the capacity of the iPod is less than your entire library) is to set up the iPod to sync only selected playlists. Then it is an easy matter to change your playlists to decide which tunes go on the iPod and which do not.
So set up a Playlist, say "iPod" and now drag everything into that playlist you want on the iPod. Plug in the iPod and change the sync setting to auto update the selected playlists and in the list pick the "iPod" playlist. Now whenever you want to add or substract from the iPod, simply add to or delete out of that playlist.
