That's 16GB before you take out the 3-4GB occupied by iOS and the bundled apps that come with it. Plus the 16GB quoted on the box is measured in decimal GB (10^9 or 1000000000bytes) whereas iOS reports the available/used storage in binary GB (2^30 or 1073741824bytes) instead.

Yes, I know I can send a group message by entering the contacts one at a time. But it should be possible to just enter the name of a contact group and have it automatically send a text to everyone in that group. Every other mobile OS has this feature. Even my daughter's dumbphone does this. And when I look online for workarounds, I see LOTS of grumbling about the fact that this incredibly basic feature STILL isn't included in iOS7. Does anyone know WHY? It totally mystifies me why something so basic isn't an option.

I built an application to store de front panel of vi in a JPEG image file, but native labels of controls and indicator are unclear after image capture, some one knows why? I have a working example you can test.

For some label colors like yellow or green, this defect is almost invisible, but for black color or any dark tone like brown or dark gray after file creation appears unclear labels.

In more details, JPEG uses lossy compression and is not really suitable for cartoon-like pictures with objects containing high-contrast sharp features such as lines and boxes (as found in front panels). This has to do with the truncation in the 2D cosine transforms which gives you weak ripples near sharp edges, not visible in typical photographs.
Of course you could set the quality to 100% (optional input) for no truncation with a trade-off of larger files, but it's pretty pointless. JPEG is only meant to be used for photographs.
PNG is a fantastic format (intended as a GIF replacement), uses lossless compression, and wins in all aspects over jpeg for your intended use. All modern applications can deal with them (e.g. you can insert them into word or powerpo
int) and any modern browser can display them. (see e.g. the PNG home site for more info).

It really isn't a well thought out 'gesture' when a normal scroll action can result in an unwanted zoom but disabling SmartZoom wasn't an option for me—one of those with eyes that tire easily when reading very small text on a 27" display.
For a while I used command-+ and command-'-' to read small text but that isn't supported in some apps and for Safari it often leaves the browser in an less than perfect state when moving to the next page. I also tried option scroll to zoom the whole display but that was not desirable, either.
I finally settled on leaving SmartZoom enabled and remembering to double tap with one finger whenever the undesired zoom happens. It happens so often that the double tap is almost a reflex action for me.

It will allow your homesharing, airplay, airprint, propreitary apple networking support, and other features. You should absolutely try to enable it. Some routers, even when the ports are opened, just don't work perfectly with Bonjour broadcasts. But you might be able to get it to work. Look to see if anybody else with your router has already figured this out in the eircom forums.

After installing Lion my time machine using a Time capsule backups take a very long time, particularly indexing the back up, does any one know why and a fix?

The first index with Lion takes a very long time. Could take over 10 hours. You just have to wait. You can see the progress by opening Console and entering backupd in the search box

The iPad pulls 10 Watts of power in order to charge the battery. The USB port on a laptop only puts out 2.5 watts (I may be off on this slightly but I know it is way less then 10) So yes you do need to use the 10 watt wall charger that comes with the iPad to charge it. You can use the 5 watt charger from an iPhone but the iPad will not get to 100% charge and it will really overheat the iPhone wall charger. Only do this in an emergency and keep a close eye on the charger as it will get REALLY REALLY HOT. I only do this when I don't have my iPad wall charger with me and only for about 15 minutes at a time. Then I let the charger cool down for about 15 minutes before I plug it back in.
There is talk that future laptops will have usb ports that can push 100 watts but that is a way down the road I am sure.

Open Activity Monitor in the Utilities folder. Select All Processes from the Processes dropdown menu. Click twice on the CPU% column header to display in descending order. If you find a process using a large amount of CPU time, then select the process and click on the Quit icon in the toolbar. Click on the Force Quit button to kill the process. See if that helps. Be sure to note the name of the runaway process so you can track down the cause of the problem.

Try this - Reset the iPad by holding down on the Sleep and Home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons. (This is equivalent to rebooting your computer.) No data/files will be erased.
