Some opinions please on Auto play?

Hello, I finally have my site ready to start sending out to my piano students ... and so far from my friends have said they love the site.
But I read a few articles where people are ranting full force about auto play music ... so my question please is this:
Is this sort of auto play piece going to REALLY disturb anyone? It's a gorgeous clip from a Chopin sonata, recorded by me and set at a low auto play volume. It is easily accessible to turn OFF if it actually does annoy anyone.

But I figure my target audience would appreciate this clip.
Please let me know if this set up conforms well to an artists / pianists site, and if there is a way to possibly have the first page come with a pop up that simply asks the visitor if it would like to start playing soft music ... or if they would like to continue with none?

What you think is beautiful music others may find annoying and intrusive. Consider the following scenarios:
Your site visitors are listening to other media (iTunes, YouTube, web radio, CDs or whatever...). If your site has autoplay, it will compete with whatever they're listening to resulting in a media cacophony.
Perhaps your site visitors surf in close proximity to other people (co-workers, students, public library users) who don't appreciate gratuitous music.
There's a sleeping baby in the next room...
Media on web pages must be presented with utmost care and consideration for your site visitors.
Turn off Autoplay.

Changing my RAID - some opinions please

Hello,
I've been away for a while. Now, I'm back at the game, and I have a question.
I am having some speed/performance issues with my Premiere Pro CS6 system. To describe it:
GA-990FXA-UD3
AMD FX 8150 Eight-Core Processor @ 3.6GHz
16GB RAM
Nvidia GTX570 - all the latest drivers
Black Magic Decklink Intensity Pro - all the latest drivers
Samsung SSD 840 250GB system disk
WIndows 7 Home 64bit - all the latest drivers
6TB Raid 0 using 2 Hitachi 3TB, 7200rpm drives with 64mb of Cache.
Some other drives for storage of photos, and other files.
My windows Experience index is 7.6, with the RAM and processor being tied. The other settings are at 7.9
I am getting read/ write speeds of about 270mb/s on the raid. It is not fast enough to comfortably play the 1080p 60fps I record from my GoPro when I am doing aerial work, and causing generally slow performance with multiple layers in Premere CS6.
I am considering increasing the number of drives in the raid from 2 to 4. Still striping as a RAID 0. It would give me a RAID 0 that would format out to about 11TB, but it is the speed I am interested in. The new drives will run me $119.00 each, and I'll buy a cheap controller card to put a couple of data drives on
Now to my questions:
1. The new drives will NOT be the same brand as the current ones. They will be Segate drives with the same specs. Is this an issue? Here is the part number, etc:
Seagate Barracuda 3TB 3.5" SATA3 64MB Cache OEM Hard Drive (ST3000DM001)
2. What speed boost can I expect?
3. If I bought a 3rd drive - to make 5 in all, should I do a RAID 3 for redundancy and protection.
I know I will have to blow out the current RAID, and I am backing up those files right now. I want to use the onboard controller on the MB to do this. I can't afford an expensive RAID card at this point.
Can anyone comment on my plans, tell me if I am making a critical mistake, or what you would do differently.

With trouble playing back multiple layers of GoPro on a timeline, I suspect that your bottleneck may not be your drives.
You can do something pretty fast to hone in on this:
- Run Task Manager / Performance tab & Resource Monitor to trend cpu, disk, and memory in real time
- Run a Graphics card utility that will trend your GPU usage in real time (MSI Afterburner, EVGA, etc.)
- turn on the drop-frame counter in CS6
Play back your timeline using both some single-layer and multi-layer sections:
play with resolution settings if you have not already done so(full, 1/2, etc.).
watch your cpu core loads; if you are completely saturating all cpu cores, then you are likely cpu bound, not disk i/o bound; if you are only seeing a very light load on your cpu cores, then possibly you have a filter that is preventing the Mercury Playback Engine (MPE) from utilizing all of your cores (i.e. 3rd party hardware, drivers, and filters, Red Giant, etc. can do this)
watch your gpu core loads; it will not be very high, but it should be above zero; if it is zero, redo the GPU hack for your GTX 570 and make sure your hardware MPE is enabled. Your GTX 570 is a good card for CS6; Unless it is not set up properly, I don't think that is your issue.
watch your Memory usage; Premiere can be set to use up to a certain amount of RAM (I think that it maxes out a RAM total less 3GB reserved for other apps.), or 13GB in your case
watch your disk i/o; I suspect that you will confirm that it is pretty low, and therefore not likely your bottleneck
I've never played with any AMD cpus lately, but they are not reportedly doing as well with Premiere as the Intel equivelents.

Brand New 2007 24'' IMac need some opinions please

I have a 24' I Mac that is a 2007,,,, it was only used for 1 month then put into storage do to a move,,,, I just got it out of storage and set back up again. It only has 1MB of Ram, and I would like to possibly get it upgraded to the 3MB, anyone know how much this would cost, and if it is worth it to do ??? Also what other suggestions for upgrades that can be done to this system to bring it more up to date. This computer is just about brand new. like I said was used for approx 3 weeks and thats it. I read MB or is it GB of Ram is the most this system will take, id this true or can I get more ???

Plus you could/should upgrade to Snow Leopard. Problem is Apple no longer sell Snow Leopard thru the Apple Store, so you will need to call Apple Support and ask for a 10.6 Upgrade DVD.

i'm looking at either the apple 23" display or a lacie 320.
which will give a betetr image, colours and calibration etc?

Hi Nick,
if you want/need full control of the monitor with colours and calibration, then I would propose the Eizo, as the other two monis you mention are good in their own right, but can't beat the Eizo in terms of configuration.
Which isn't that surprising giving the fact that the Eizo costs about 4 times the prize of the Apple 23".
But maybe a combination of the Apple 23" with the calibration tools from ColorVision or Pantone could be sufficient.

ConfigMgr, Intune, AirWatch, Others... I'd like some opinions please!

You definitely need an MDM solution. I always highly suggest people start with one of the free options to see how an MDM works, and if they need something more. Cisco Meraki MDM is a fully functional MDM (will do all 5 of your listed needs), and is free for up to 100 devices. Its also very easy to setup and use. MaaS360 has a limited function MDM (will only do 2 or 3 of your list) that is integrated in SpiceWorks. Both products are free, and are highly recommended and used by the SpiceWorks community.I have no experience with Intune, and could only suggest you view theproduct reviews on SpiceWorksto see what others have found. There are manywho are not a big fan of AirWatch, I'm among them.

I've recently started becoming more involved with our organization's interest in MDM solutions, and I've known for a while that the lean, for now, seems to be on the AirWatch solution. Based on other organizations I've interacted with, I hear a lot of whispers in my ear about ConfigMgr and Intune - specifically Intune for the mobile device management piece and ConfigMgr for managing that, deployable client environments (over MDT) and general monitoring.
So, for a little while, I started learning more about what ConfigMgr actually does, what Intune does, what purchasing it gets you, and I have to admit - from many perspectives, the options and features seem to be mind-boggling and pretty confusing. Then there's the licensing part which also makes my head spin - are we licensed for ConfigMgr when we purchase an Intune licence per user?...

Disk Auto Play

I have not found a way to set my disk so that it stops at the menu rather than starting to play directly. Also, I need to return to the menu when a scene is completed rather than continuing on to the next scene.
I have not found the "settings" for this.

Yes, I applied menus (Marquee) and then went to Share/To Disc.
I have a Main Menu and a Scene Menu with multiple scenes. I would like to return to the Scene Menu at the end of each scene.
When I played the Disc on my DVD Player, it went directly into play and did not stop at the Main Menu. Also, it did not return to the Scene Menu at the end of each scene.
Are some menus set to Auto Play?

Although vlc mentioned above is a much more powerful and better player you could try installing Perian if you insist on using the quicktime player. It may supply the codec it needs.
Not sure why you wouldn't be able to play straight avi files though in quicktime.

And yet the link you posted only tells you how to do it on the Facebook App for Android. Nothing about the Facebook page is mentioned at all, or how to do it on an iPhone.
With that said, and assuming you have the most up to date version of the Facebook App, you can now turn the auto play feature Off within the Facebook App itself. Tap on the "More" icon on the bottom right, then scroll down to Settings->Videos and Photos->Auto Play. If Smart auto-Play is on turn it off. Then you can set the check mark on "Never Play Videos Automatically" which is the same as Off.

Just as of late I noticed that Apple Stores are selling security cameras that work with their app on an iPhone. Very expensive but it uses both WiFi when local and cellular when not at home.
In your case I would check the apple store and see if there is a free or paid app to access your home closed circuit TV system. The cameras have to have their own ip address so you then need only enter that and access will be available to you. But they must be on your home network.
a lot of the higher end CCTV systems have a free app that can be used like the new Apple Security system.
Just Google it or check the store.

It's a video? Most video ads probably use the Flash plugin. You could stop sites from using Flash automatically and require them to get your approval. And obviously there's no rush giving approval if it's just for an ad...

I have heard that no cloud is truly safe and have been reluctant to use anything to store sensitive data that I cannot control myself. Try re-installing Quicktime.

Edge Animate doesn't respond to trigger, auto-plays to the end while previewing in the browser.

I've this strange problem with EA.
I was working on a project which was doing pretty well. You may see it over here.
This afternoon I wanted to make some progress, opened the file, clicked preview in browser. What I saw was the auto-play of animation from start to end. No regard to triggers whatsoever. So, I downloaded the original file from the web server (which obviously is working as you can see from the above link), reopened in AE and tried to preview in the browser, same thing happened, doesn't respond to triggers, just auto-plays start to finish in one go. I hit publish again (with no edits, just loaded up the originals from server, saved and published.), and re-uploaded to the web server to see if it had anything to do with my local settings. It behaved same as the preview, auto play, as if there was no triggers.
Am i doing something wrong here? or is this a known bug? if so, is there a work around to this issue?

Can't auto play music post iweb 1.1 update

I have just updated to iweb 1.1. On the previous version I was able to publish and edit the html source using Taco HTML Edit to auto play Quicktime music attachment but with the 1.1 update I can't seem to find the source code for the music attachment. Please look at the source for this page:

there definitely is music attachment but can't see it from the source. And for some reason I need to right click the play button to play rather then left.
Does anyone know how I can make the music to autoplay post iweb 1.1 update?
