Some parts of GUI appear like 8 bit images

Hi,
I noticed some times now that some strange black rectangles appear on some parts of GUI or different "screen layers" After i restart they disapear.
But things got worse. I get 8 bit color images on different apps and GUI frames. For instance when i inwoke comand+tab (taskbar?) or dashboard. I took my notebook to the local shop, thay had it for a day to check the hardware and said everything is working good. I have a late 2011 mbp 13 inch.
Anyone was any idea to what might be causing this?

I read some people have fixed the problem of the black boxes by updating to new OS. I really do not know if these two problems are related, and upgrading to new OS is not possible for me for a while so any input would be appreciated.

Purchased new macbook pro 13" and missing some parts of ilife

hi, i just bought the macbook pro 13 yesterday in best buy store and overall works fine but missing some parts of ilife software - like imovie, garage band, etc. i do have iphoto. I don't want to pay for this in the app store as should have come with the system, any idea how i get this resolved?

it's ok. There's still a way to get them for free from apple. It appears the prior owner (since it was open box) registered the computer to their Apple ID. If you go to selfsolve.apple.com you can scan them a copy of your receipt and give them the serial number of the machine. Once they log that on their end you can call 800-APL-CARE and have them authorize the machine to be able to download iLife for free.

Encore DVD 2.0 - problems with video - distortion in some parts

Hi there
I use Canopus Edius software for video editting and Canopus ProCoder for creating of mpeg2 (m2p) files. When I import these files to Encore DVD 2.0 and preview them from timeline the video is distorted in some parts(small squares appears on the screen but then video continue again (always between two clips). Interesting is that if I add transition on these place and create mpeg file and import it to Encore again then it is played correctly).
Same m2p file which does not work correctly in DVD Encore 2.0 work fine in DVD Encore 1.5!!!!
Pls give me some advice how to fix it. Thank you in advance.

Assuming you did this with a Fill Layer, double-click the thumbnail in the Layers panel to bring up the Gradient Fill dialog, see to it that the [ ] Align with layer checkbox is set, and (while the Gradient Fill dialog is still up) try dragging the gradient to where you want it on the main display. Then [ OK ] out of the Gradient Fill dialog.

DPS: pinch and zoom function not working on all pages within folio (v30 tools using the pdf setting). What would cause some pages to pinch and zoom fluidly, while other pages appear a bit sticky? Could it be a button on the wrong layer?

Roundtrip mismatch for 8-bit to 32bit to 8-bit images. Gamma appears to not be reversible.

I am trying to debug a slight difference in gamma correction from 8-bit to 32-bit VS 32-bit to 8-bit.
The observed issue can be seen in darker, shadowed areas of the image. To recreate, try the following:
1. Find a good test 8-bit image, open in photoshop
2. Create an empty file of the same resolution, bit depth - 32bit
3. Select all in the 8-bit image, copy.
4. Paste in the 32-bit image
The image should look a bit washed out (like a gamma 2.2 has been applied)
5. Selected the pasted layer, add an exposure adjustment layer. Set gamma to 0.454545 (eg. 1 /2.2)
6. Convert back to 8-bit. Select image mode 8-bit. Choose merge.
7. Under type select 'exposure and gamma'. Leave exposure @ 0 and gamma @ 1.0
This should look close to the original image.
8. Flip between the original and this round-tripped image -- they are slightly different, especially in the shadow areas.
A gamma correction should be reversible. Since we promote to float - there shouldn't really be any precision issues.
Any thoughts?

Well, but do you actually use color management? Unless you work perfectly linearized and can be sure the source image doesn't already have built in specific color skew and/ or PS is applying a correction based on color profiles, your values will never match. also the conversion back from 32bit will never yield a 100% exact match due to simple quantization issues when going from float to integer values...

Footer image is not showing some part of it.

I have placed my footer image and used Tile horizontaly in the master page. It previews correctly in the browser from master page, but not from the other pages.
But when it previews or exports with the different pages, it is not showing as it supposed to. Bottom side of the footer is cut out and shows white.

After exporting the whole project and inspecting the css file, I found it was missing height property in the footer section. I don't know why it is messing up the css when it comes to pages other than master page.

8-bit image acts like a 16!

Hi all, Photoshop newbie here. We create images with a color linescan camera and save to a TIF file. They are all 8-bit images, no colorspace assigned.
I took 2 images within 6 minutes of each other. Photoshop (CS2) identifies both of them as 8-bit images. BUT, it treats one file like it's a 16-bit image with missing filters etc but is fine with the other image. The only difference I can see is the file size. The file that works is about 110MB, while the problem file is about 161MB.
Has anyone seen anything similar, or knows how Photoshop decides when an image is "filter-worthy" and when it's not? Thanks in advance!

What's interesting is that a simple resize of the image fixes the behavior of the filter menu. So going from say ~520 ppi to 400 ppi, all of a sudden you have access to the greyed-out filters. But you only have to do that on the larger of the 2 files. They both have the same native resolution (we scan at 2048 pixels/line at 200 lines/cm).
It's also cross-platform, same problem for Macs and PC's running the same version of Photoshop. Strange...
