Some photos don't show in LIbrary view--just the outlines of them

Tonight I tried to transfer a bunch of digital photos from a CD my daughter burned into my iPhoto library, into the 2006 year folder.
I opened the CD and in the icon view, the pictures looked fine--jpeg files.
After I transferred them, these pictures don't show in my initial iPhoto window (the one that opens first when you click on iPhoto in the Dock, and shows all the pictures in my Library sorted by (in my case) roll/date.
Then photo thumbnails from years prior to 2005 show up, fine, but for the most recent year of pictures, all I get are the outlines of where the thumbnails ought to show. When I click on one of the blank thumbnails, of course I get a blank ...but the frame in the lower left shows the ID info for the picture and the picture counts, etc.
I can open the folders from the Pictures file and see them...they just won't show up in the overall Library window.
So...I moved the transferred ones out of the iPhoto library and just put them in the Pictures folder for now.
But what did I do? And how do I "fix it" to make all the thumbnails show up again? This is probably some simple thing...but I can't figure it out. I tried showing just the last 12 months...and I get all the blank outlines.
G4 iBook   Mac OS X (10.3.9)   Using iPhoto 5, 768MB RAM,

Hi john,
First problem. You need to import photos into the iPhoto Library the correct way which is while iPhoto is open. Drag the photos out of where you put them (you already did) now you can import them into iPhoto from there.
Read on for more info....--First thing to know and remember is this...Do not drag any images, folder of images into the iPhoto Library in the Finder. Images have to be imported into iPhoto within the application. Do not scan images and save them into the iPhoto Library folder in the Finder. Save them to another location such as the Pictures folder or even the desktop. You can then import them into iPhoto.
If you have already put files/folders in the iPhoto Library folder in the Finder then you will also find out that if you try to import them into iPhoto you will get an error message. No worry, just drag them to the desktop and import from there.
--All images that you import are shown in the library view. You can choose how you want to view, by rolls, by date, by rating, etc. When you put images in an Album, slideshow, book, etc, you are actually just putting pointers to those images in the library. You are not adding more images. If you delete an image from the Album it will still be in the library. If you delete an image from the library it is deleted from iPhoto's database and your hard drive (unless you have it backed up somewhere else)
--You have a folder of images on your hard drive and want to import them into iPhoto. Drag the folder of images into an open iPhoto Library window and the folder of photos will be copied into the library, resulting in a new roll with the name of the folder. You now have two copies of those photos, the ones in iPhoto's database and the ones on your desktop. You can keep the ones on your desktop that you just imported as backup or you can delete that folder.
-- you scan a picture/pictures and save it in a folder. You cannot scan directly into iPhoto or the iPhoto Library folder in the Finder.
You want all your photos in iPhoto so you import them into iPhoto.
Now you have two copies of that picture/pictures, so you can delete the originals that were in the scanned folder and keep the one/ones that were imported into iPhoto.
-- You download pictures from your camera into iPhoto.
There is now one copy of each of the pictures. (DO NOT HAVE IPHOTO DELETE THE IMAGES FROM YOUR CAMERA! DELETE THEM MANUALLY WITH THE CAMERA-if something goes wrong with the import and they are never imported and then they are deleted from the camera you might end up losing those images)
You want to change something about a picture you imported, such as
cropping it or changing the size, or changing the orientation.
Once you do that to a picture, you now have two copies of the picture
in iPhoto, the original and the edited one. The edited one will be in the library organize view. The original is packed away in an Original folder in your iPhoto Library folder under the date of the roll. You can always revert to the original by control clicking on the photo and choose "revert to orginal" You will not have this choice if you used iPhoto Diet to get rid of the Originals.
(a quick note on cropping within iPhoto...when you are in edit mode, you automatically will be in the crop mode with cross hairs to highlight the crop area. To finish cropping you must click the crop button and then go back to library view and your cropped picture will be there.
3.You want to use Photoshop or another graphic program to edit a picture in your iPhoto library.
You can open up prefs for iPhoto and choose "when double clicking on
photo ..do" choose "other" and select Photoshop. Now you can edit all
pictures in your iPhoto library in PhotoShop by double clicking. If you save the photo with the same name and as a flattened file it will be saved right into iPhoto and you will see the changes. If you don't want to save it into iPhoto then do a "save as" and save to the desktop. You will then have the original photo still in iPhoto and your new edited photo on the desktop.
Or, with iPhoto open, you can drag a picture from the library window
to your desktop (you see a + sign on the pic you are dragging). You now
have two of the same picture, one in the iPhoto library and one on your desktop. You can open up the one on your desktop in any graphic program and work on it. The one in iPhoto stays the same. You can also share/export the picture/pictures to your desktop or folder to work on them or do batch processing, etc. You will still have the originals in your iPhoto Library.
Or, you can open up the ~/Pictures/iPhoto Library/folders and option drag any
picture out of the folder to your desktop. Notice that you will see a plus sign while dragging the photo. This is copying the file to your desktop
I would advise anyone not to do this as they might forget to use the option key and drag the photo out. Next time you open iPhoto the photo will be missing.

  • "Some photos need to be prepared to view them at full size" message when starting slideshow

I'm pretty new to iPhoto so I'm sorry if these questions are obvious to you, but they're not to me!
From the "Photos" section on iPhoto, with no photos selected, I accidentally started a slideshow with all my photos by pressing the play button on the keyboard and got this message:
"Some photos need to be prepared to view them at full size. Do you want to continue using the current size or prepare the photos so that only full size images are used? This may take some time." With these options: Cancel / Prepare Photos / Continue Playback.
I pressed "Esc" on the keyboard and it clicked "Prepare Photos" instead of "Cancel" as I expected, it started the process and I clicked "Cancel" to stop it, and the slideshow started. When the slideshow was playing, everything froze, I pressed cmd-alt-esc, no window appeared and iPhoto quit immediately. Could it have caused damages to the library? Could it be a reason to restore the iPhoto Library from Time Machine? I didn't get any error message when I reopened iPhoto.
Not to leave the process incomplete later I decided to start another slideshow and this time I clicked "Prepare Photos" and let it complete the process. Now when I start another slideshow I don't get that message anymore.
I have no idea what this process did to my photos and couldn't find an answer anywhere. This library is very important to me, so I'm wondering if I should restore the iPhoto Library from a Time Machine backup.
Could canceling the process the first time have caused any damage to my photos?
What is this preparation? What did it do to my photos? Have my photos been resized, or somehow modified?
    Thanks

Ok, thank you very much. I still don't know exactly what the "preparation" did to my photos but now I guess that nothing bad happened. Thanks

  • Some songs don't show up on iPod, but they are there

I have an 80GB iPod classic. I have all my songs in iTunes, and I have manually synced them to my iPod. When I view my iPod through iTunes, I can see all the songs and play them. However, when I look on my iPod directly, some songs don't show up when I browse by Artist, Song, etc.
The only way to play them on my iPod is to add them to a Playlist, and then they are accessible. However, if I want to listen to Eminem, for instance, I want to just browse to it in the Artist area.
The songs do have all of the appropriate info, and I have tried Restore and still nothing. These songs used to show up on my old, original iPod, so I am for a complete loss. Please help!

This isn't foolproof but there are usually two things that contribute to songs not appearing under Artist on the iPod, both due to information either in or missing from the Get Info>Info tab against the song in iTunes. 1) the song has no album name associated with it or 2) the song is marked as part of a compilation.
If tracks are missing an Album name (as mentioned above) in the Info tab, this information needs to be filled in. The no album one is a bit quirky as the songs will appear under certain circumstances but the simplest remedy is just add None or Miscellaneous in place of a title. See this link for more detail: I don't see some of my songs when browsing by artist on my iPod
Also if the tracks are ticked in the Get Info>Info tab as part of a compilation, they will not appear under Artist on the iPod. Highlight a song in iTunes that you know is not appearing correctly on your iPod. Right click on it and choose Get Info and click the Info tab (alternatively choose Get Info from the File menu), if "Part of a Compilation" is marked untick it and afterwards update your iPod, you should find it now appears as normal. Compilations are stored in a separate folder in iTunes so the songs don't appear inside the normal Artist>Album folder which may be why this happens.

  • I have a Nikon S6300 and when I import into iPhoto the photos don't show up in events or photos only in recent imports

I just purchased a Nikon S6300 camera and when I import into iPhoto the photos don't show up in either photos or events only in recent imports.
I have Snow Leopard on my MacMini.

Control-click one of the photos under the Recent import and select "Show Event" in the contextual menu. Or you can use the View ➙ Sort Events menu in the Events mode to reset the sort order so the new import will be either at the top or bottom of the list.

  • Photos don't show up in file name order

Photos don't show up in file name order on the iPad. Is there a way to do it?

Apparently from reading other forum posts Apple iPad sorts photos by the date stamp.
Clearly this is not suitable or feasable for people with large photo collections. Currently only people with Apple OS (iPhoto can create a sort order).. The rest of us with Windows based systems are left high & dry.
Does anyone know how to report a bug / problem to Apple ? They have no way of contacting them via email.
They need to have the sorting option in iTunes or within the iPad software itself... ie. Allow sorting by file name, etc.

  • Problem with Aperture slideshow export - Some photos don't display!

I have just completed my latest wedding slideshow. It plays as normal in Aperture, but when exported, certain photos don't show... just a black screen. The timings are unaffected.  Aperture 3.6, Yosemite 10.10.1
The affected photos seem to be the ones that I am displaying for longer durations. I'm using Ken Burn's theme and if I turn off the Ken Burn's effect on the affected photo it gets exported ok.
Having spent many hours working on this slideshow I'm "slightly" annoyed!  This is obviously a bug introduced in Aperture 3.6 or Quicktime on Yosemite, I just hope it can be fixed ASAP.   Unfortunately, I guess Aperture is low on the priority list... I have moved the LR, but still rely on Aperture for slideshows!
    HELP!

Luckily I still had a bootable pre-Yosemite backup of my iMac and have been able to successfully export the slideshow.  Hopefully, Apple will fix the problem before next wedding season!

    Possible iTunes issue:
Try the following after adding photos.
    Go to file
    Then Home Sharing
    Select photos to share
Click on All Photos already selected Do anyway
When Apply turns black click on Apply
Now go to Apple TV to see if photos there
    Or restart iTunes.
Works for me every time photos do not appear on my Apple TV 3
    Hopefully will work for you.

  • Imported photos don't show up in project

I'm pretty new to aperture so bare with me here.
I imported 100 some photos off my camera card and I selected the option to stick the photos in an existing project. The problem is that I can't see any of those photos in the project. When I mouse over the project it says that there are 200 pictures (which is right) but when I go into the project, I see none of the photos I imported, I only see the ones that were in there before. What am I doing wrong? Or what do I need to do?

You are awesome! Thanks so much! Seems like "duh," why didn't I get that, but then sometimes those little things are so easy to miss...
    Thank you.

    Hi, Mrs.Frankie57.
Thank you for visiting Apple Support Communities.
If you want to delete a song from your iOS device on iOS 7, tap Songs, swipe the song from right to left, then tap Delete. The song is deleted from iPhone, but not from your iTunes library on your Mac or PC, or from iCloud.

Photos from cameras or scans have only one layer (the 'background' layer).
You can start with that 'background' layer and duplicate it or add other layers in the editing process. For instance you can make a selection of a subject and put it on another layer; a common use is to desaturate the 'background' and to keep the color in the selected subject in your newly created layer.

Are you using one of the Web_Safe_Fonts  Web Safe Fonts? If not then any computer that does not have it installed as Kirk pointed out will substitute some other similar font and change the appearance of the page.

i have an ipad version 5.1.1. i have multiple albums in the ipad and i want to transfer some photos to my computer but when i open the ipad files via "computer" i can only see pictures from one of the albums.what should i do?

You can only import photos from the camera roll into the computer. Is that the album that you are seeing?
Any albums that you create on the device itself (the iPad that is) cannot be transferred to your computer. iPad created albums do not contain copies of your photos but merely pointers to those photos so they do not actually exist in those albums.

  • Cisco Security Manager some firewalls don't have global policies assigned for the base definitions

    Hello Experts,
In CSM 4.6 I noticed, some firewalls don't have global policies assigned for the base definitions like (SSH/SNMP/syslog/AAA,etc).
Unfortunately in Cisco CSM each policy has to be applied individually, it's easy to miss one policy or another. Is there any better way to verify and get the list of devices, which does not have SSH/SNMP/syslog/AAA
    Thanks,

Sorry if this comes to late, I just now came across this thread.  I have rtorrent and rutorrent sunning successfully on my x64 Arch Linux install.
Try putting the "SCGIMount /RPC2 127.0.0.1:5000" line in your httpd.conf file right after the LoadModule lines (it's line 124 for me).
I seem to recall it not working when I put it at the end of the file.
    Best of Luck!

  • I lost my iPod Nano. Can I retrieve all of the songs in my itunes library, or just the ones I purchased from the store?

I lost my iPod Nano. Can I retrieve all of the songs in my iTunes library, or just the ones I bought through the iTunes store?

The "bar" at the bottom does not say anything about all of your songs being on the iPod.  It just shows you how much of its storage capacity is being used, based on what is on the iPod.
If you see "On This iPod," that means the iTunes sidebar (along left side of window) is not visible.  This is easier to describe with the sidebar visible, so from the iTunes menu bar, under View, select Show Sidebar.
Select the iPod in the sidebar, under DEVICES.  There is a bar of buttons near the top, starting with Summary.  Click on Music next to Summary.  This is the iPod's Music screen, where you tell iTunes how to sync songs to the iPod.
Check the box for Sync Music.  You can choose to sync Entire music library, if (?) your iTunes music library fits on the iPod.  With this setting, your entire iTunes music library syncs to the iPod, and new songs get synced automatically.  A 7th gen iPod nano is 16GB, so your iTunes music library would have to be less than 16GB (not counting non-music content on the iPod).  Otherwise, you can choose to sync Selected playlists, artists, albums, and genres.  Then, select (checkmark) the playlists, artists, albums, and/or genres you want on the iPod from the lists below.  If you want newly added songs to sync to the iPod, they must be part of your selection.  For example, you can add them to a playlist that you have selected for syncing to the iPod.
When you click Apply, the songs from your selection sync to the iPod.  Going forward, changes to your iTunes library (based on your settings on the iPod's Music screen) sync automatically to the iPod, the next time it is connected (or when you click Sync).
