Some photos in iPhoto do not transfer to iPod?
I created a folder which is set to sync with my 5G iPod but only 12 pics sync. The other 80 or so do not. Any ideas why this is?
Yes....It seems to only transfer non rated pictures onto ipod. At least thats a quick thing I noticed. I need to try some test to see if the star rating somehow makes them invisible to iPod.

When I use time machine with my external harddrive to back up computer, some music from iTunes library, and some photos from iPhoto library are missing when I check backup disk. I am using latest version of mountain lion. Am I doing something wrong?
First, Time Machine doesn't completely back up the iPhoto library while iPhoto is running. Make sure you quit iPhoto after making any changes to allow a backup to take place.
This simple procedure will clear your Time Machine settings, including both overt and hidden exclusions. If you have a long exclusion list that can't be recreated easily, you may prefer a more complicated procedure that preserves the exclusion list. In that case, ask for instructions. Otherwise, do as follows.
Triple-click the line below to select it:
/Library/Preferences/com.apple.TimeMachine.plist
Right-click or control-click the highlighted line and select
Services ▹ Reveal
from the contextual menu. A Finder window should open with a file selected. Copy it to the Desktop. Then move it (the original, not the copy) to the Trash. You'll be prompted for your administrator password. Reboot, recreate your settings in the Time Machine preference pane, and run a backup to test. If TM now performs as expected, delete the file you copied to the Desktop. -
Some photos in iPhoto will not sync/copy to iPhone
I have an album in iPhoto that contains photos that will not transfer to the iPhone. There is no indication from phone or iTunes that there is/was any problem during the sync. I have tried the following:
Create new and different album with those pictures and resync
Create new album with 1 of the offending pictures, but even a single picture will not move to the phone
This problem has existed through several iOS, iTunes, and iPhoto transitions, including latest for each
iPhone has been wiped and completely restored
iPhone has been DFU reset (for a different problem)
Any help is appreciatedI seem to have figured this out, finally. I did the following:
Removed the pictures from iPhoto completely
Reimported them into iPhoto
Now the sync seems to work.

Some photos from iPhoto are not appearing in iMovie
I have successfully imported over 2,000 pictures from iPhoto into iMovie. However, my latest attempt did not work- these photos were from a CD scanned by somebody else. The photos are in iPhoto, but when I pull up the folder in iMovie, it is blank.
Any idea why??? Thanks.You should be able to tell in iPhoto. If not, right click on the photo in iPhoto and select "Reveal in Finder". You should see the file. Right click on it and select "Get Info"

certain events in iPhoto will not sync to my iPad. No Error messages comes up and the photos themselves are ok. its like my ipad doesn't see them. Cause i can get some photos on there just not all. Photos are from the same camera and should all be in the same format.
What is the file name of the video(s) you want to sync?
Another way. You can use a USB flash drive & the camera connection kit.
Plug the USB flash drive into your computer & create a new folder titled DCIM. Then put your movie/photo files into the folder. The files must have a filename with exactly 8 characters long (no spaces) plus the file extension (i.e., my-movie.mov; DSCN0164.jpg).
Now plug the flash drive into the iPad using the camera connection kit. Open the Photos app, the movie/photo files should appear & you can import. (You can not export using the camera connection kit.)

Desktop photo from iPhoto does not appear in iPhoto
MacBook Pro, approximately one year old, OS 10.8.5 and iPhoto '11
In System Preferences>Desktop and Screen Saver, I have the Desktop set to use iPhoto, changing randomly every 1 minute. Some photos it uses are not photos that appear anywhere in iPhoto. Today I saw one go by that I want to access and use for other purposes, but it's not in iPhoto! Could the Desktop rotation be accessing photos in some other form?If your iPhoto library is offline, or you switched between iPhoto libraries, the System preferences will revert to using the system default photos instead.
All System default Desktop pictures are stored in the system library. Perhaps you can find the photos you are looking for in this folder:
/Library/Desktop Pictures/ (in Lion or later, if I remember correctly)
Open the "Library" folder at the top level of your Macintosh HD and open the folder "Desktop Pictures". Be careful, when you browse this folder. Don't change anything. -
some photos in iphoto are missing and there are blank thumbnails which when i try to open them show an exclamation sign
The exclamation make is an indication that iPhoto has broken the file path to the original photo.
Make a temporary, backup copy (if you don't already have a backup copy) of the library and apply the two fixes below in order as needed:
Fix #1
Launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys held down and rebuild the library.
Select the options identified in the screenshot.
Fix #2
Using iPhoto Library Manager to Rebuild Your iPhoto Library
Download iPhoto Library Manager and launch.
Click on the Add Library button, navigate to your Home/Pictures folder and select your iPhoto Library folder.
Now that the library is listed in the left hand pane of iPLM, click on your library and go to the File ➙ Rebuild Library menu option
In the next window name the new library and select the location you want it to be placed.
Click on the Create button.
Note: This creates a new library based on the LIbraryData.xml file in the library and will recover Events, Albums, keywords, titles and comments but not books, calendars or slideshows. The original library will be left untouched for further attempts at fixing the problem or in case the rebuilt library is not satisfactory.

I cant seem to open some photos on Iphoto. I downloaded like 3 months ago from my phone into the iphoto. I could access ALL of my photos back then but when I try and access them now I cant seem to open the file. When i open iphoto and open the folder thats on it, i can see ALL the photos that are there but when I click on different ones some appear in the larger screen but A LOT of them dont appear. Iphoto seems to have erased the file or I dont know.
Also I tried clicking on the photo that doesnt appear and making it "Reveal it on finder" - "original file" and it says 'The operation can’t be completed because the item can’t be found.".
I really want those photos because they involve a really special family vacation, please help me find those photosA LOT of them dont appear.
What do you see in the window when you click on those? A blank, black window? An exclamation mark? What? -
I need to be able to print or export some photos from iPhoto with the date the photos were taken. Need this for a legal case. Any suggestions?
The date they were taken us in the EXIF data and is included in the export
However it is trivial to modify it so I doubt that it would hold water in court

Sure-glad to help you. You will not lose any data by changing synching to MacBook Pro from imac. You have set up Time Machine, right? that's how you'd do your backup, so I was told, and how I do my backup on my mac. You should be able to set a password for it. Save it. Your stuff should be saved there. So if you want to make your MacBook Pro your primary computer, I suppose, back up your stuff with Time machine, turn off Time machine on the iMac, turn it on on the new MacBook Pro, select the hard drive in your Time Capsule, enter your password, and do a backup from there. It might work, and it might take a while, but it should go. As for clogging the hard drive, I can't say. Depends how much stuff you have, and the hard drive's capacity. As for moving syncing from your iMac to your macbook pro, should be the same. Your phone uses iTunes to sync and so that data should be in the cloud. You can move your iTunes Library to your new Macbook pro

time machine is an application, and should be found in the Applications folder. it is built in to OS X, so there is nothing else to buy. double click on it, get it going, choose the Hard drive in your Time capsule/Airport as your backup Time Machine and go for it. You should see a circle with an arrow on the top right hand of your screen (the Desktop), next to the bluetooth icon, and just after the wifi and eject key (looks sorta like a clock face). This will do automatic backups of your stuff. -
I am looking for software to store photos with. I am not a fancy photographer, and really am just looking for the digital version of a photo album. iPhoto is not cutting it, mainly because it does not back up and restore easily on an external HD.
That's how Time Machine and iPhoto now work. Restore the library to one of the external HDs, check it for the photos you want, export them to the boot drive and delete the restored library.
If you know the file name of the photo you're looking for you can search for them in the TM backup using Find Any File.
My workflow allows me to do that:
1 - upload new photos to a folder on the Desktop.
2 - name the folder to represent the contents and date: 01/03/10-Toads Bday
3 - use a file renaming app to sequentially rename the photos in the folder to: 2010-01-03-Toads Bday-001.JPG, -002,JPG, -003.JPG, etc.
4 - import the folder into iPhoto creating an Event with the same title as the folder.
Now I can search for those file by file name with any app of my choosing. -

Hold the option command keys and launch iPhoto to launch the First aid.
Start with repairing permissions first and proceed from there.
