Some photos won't publish

i am using the Publish service (very cool!) to export photos to a  specific location on my hard drive. the process is driven by a set of  smart collections, and it all works great.
however, i have a handful of photos that won't publish -- they are  sitting in the "new photos to publish" or "modified photos to  re-publish" areas and they don't get published when i tell that  collection to publish.
the publish service exports in JPEGs.
Some are NEFs, others are JPEGs, one is a PSD.  All of the NEFs and JPEGs are virtual copies. the PSD is the original.
any ideas what's going on?

>@LKF: I can get CS3 to open files from LR 2, but it works differently than earlier LR releases. With LR 1.4 when I right clicked to edit in CS3 it gave me a choice of which version of the file to edit. It also paired the .psd file with the original .dng when I finished. Now with LR 2 it doesn't do either. Is this a design feature or is something hosed up.
Bug. Will be fixed in the next (first) update. For a workaround set Photoshop the be the secondary editor in the preferences and use it. If you are unclear on how to do this check here:

  • Problems with some photos when converting Publisher files to PDF using Acrobat 9

I tried to make a pdf of a publisher document that has a number of photographs. Two of the photographs appear grey with streaks -looks like some of the colours are not converting properly. The same document works fine with Acrobat 8 but not with version 9. Anybody have this experience?

Graffit's suggestion did not work for me.
I work for the Ontario government, and we are still using Office 2003. I am not sure what version of 9 we are using as we get bulk licences to use the program. I only got the program in August 2010. I used the default settings in the program.
I try to open the publisher document in Adobe. I have also tried opening the publisher document, then converting it to the PDF. Both have two of the photos that don't convert properly. The other photos are fine.
The two photos in question were given to us by the Communications department. I don't have the originals. The photos were copied from other document. I don't know what the format of the orginal photos were. The person in Communications has not responded to my request yet.

  • Some photos won't export as versions

A proportion of photos from various projects won't export as versions, either JPGs or TIFFs. The files themselves aren't corrupt as I can open them in Photoshop and then save them as JPG or TIFF files or whatever I want. I though it might be library that was corrupt but I rebuilt the library and the probem still persists and with the same photos.
I have my library stored on a RAID system. I've stored it before on a RAID setup but always using Apple's formatting software to RAID the HDs together. This is a hardware RAID system so the computer reads it as 2TB when it's really two 1TB drives together. It is then formatted with the standard Apple DIsc Utility. This is the only difference from before and I've never had the problem until now.
Could this be the problem? Could fragmented files on this drive be the problem? Any suggestions welcome.

The way you have described your issues sounds like you are running a referenced library where you have easy access to the files through the finder. Is it possible that in the process of accessing files through the finder that some have been moved or had attributes changed? The way to identify this is by the badges that Aperture displays on an image, pg.291 of the manual see below.
To display badge overlays on images in the Viewer:
1 Do one of the following:
Â Choose View > Metadata > Customize (or press Command-J).
Â Choose Aperture > Preferences, then click Metadata.
    2 Select the Viewer checkbox.
3 From the Viewer Set 1 pop-up menu, choose a metadata view that includes badge
overlays. Some examples are General and Ratings, as well as Viewer-Basic and
    Viewer-Expanded.
    4 Close the Preferences window.
Badges are now visible in the Viewer.

  • Some Photos Won't Display

I have the Droid X with the new 2.3 Gingerbread and just recently had certain photos that will show as a thumbnail image in the gallery but when I touch them to view the larger image it only displays a generic icon (sun over mountains box) instead of the actual pic.  I checked the photo info and it is still in a .jpg format.  I didn't edit them in any way, only certain pics won't display.  Any ideas on what may be causing this?

You probably have a corrupted file ...  See this thread from Wildman which addresses the HOW TO fix for possibly corrupted JPEGS.

  • Some photos won't upload to Photo Share albums

I have just started to use photo sharing from my Macbook to my iPhone (previously had been using it iPhone to iPhone only). I am trying to sync photos in Aperture (not all, just a select few) - with my iPhone.
I have created a photo share for myself only (I don't want to use photo stream because I don't want ALL my photos syncing on a regular basis)
The permissions have all be adjusted to allow photosharing both in Aperture and on my iPhone 4
I have 47 photos in an album called IPHONE in Aperture
I selected all the photos and dragged them to Icloud
It asked me if I wanted to put them in my Photo Share album named APERTURE
    and I clicked ok.
Even after waiting for over an hour - I am only getting 3 photos into my photoshare album.
    Alternatively -
when I "sync" my iPhone using itunes
I tell iTunes that I want to use photos from Aperture
I select the checkbox beside the IPHONE Album I created with 47 photos in it (but it says there are only 23 photos in the album)
    I run the sync
and only 23 photos are transferring to my iPhone.
Why isn't it recognizing some of my photos? I know there are specifications for photosharing, but a straight upload/sync in iTunes should allow all photos to upload?

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
Photostream only syncs photos over Wi-Fi, make sure you are connected to Wi-Fi to begin with.
Photostream only syncs when the camera app is closed, ensure it is closed.
Photostream only syncs when the battery is above 20%, try recharging the device
Try disabling photo stream on your device (settings > iCloud), restarting your device and then re-enabling photo stream.
Note: disabling photostream and re-enabling it will result in any photos that are currently in the photostream album on your device, that are older than 30 days old, not being added back.

  • Iphoto.  When I play an album "slideshow" some photos show up as a blank/black screen.  Please help if you know what I am doing wrong.

    Iphoto Question
When I playing a "slideshow" album, a few photos show up as a blank screen.  Also, when I select a photo in an album to make it full screen - some photos won't "hold" - they go full screen for about a second, then the screen goes blank.  Any ideas about what I am doing wrong?  Thank you.

There are several possible causes for the Black Screen issue
    1. Permissions in the Library: Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Include the option to check and repair permissions.
    2. Minor Database corruption: Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild.
    3. A Damaged Photo: Select one of the affected photos in the iPhoto Window and right click on it. From the resulting menu select 'Show File (or 'Show Original File' if that's available). (On iPhoto 11 this option is under the File -> Reveal in Finder.) Will the file open in Preview? If not then the file is damaged. Time to restore from your back up.
    4. A corrupted iPhoto Cache: Trash the com.apple.iPhoto folder from HD/Users/Your Name/ Library/ Caches...
    5. A corrupted preference file: Trash the com.apple.iPhoto.plist file from the HD/Users/ Your Name / library / preferences folder. (Remember you'll need to reset your User options afterwards. These include minor settings like the window colour and so on. Note: If you've moved your library you'll need to point iPhoto at it again.)
If none of these help: As a Test:
Hold down the option (or alt) key key and launch iPhoto. From the resulting menu select 'Create Library'
Import a few pics into this new, blank library. Is the Problem repeated there?

Two days ago I upgraded to Lightroom 3 and I'm having trouble adding some files to a SmugMug Publish Collection.  I cant figure out why some photos will add to the collection and some won't.  I don't get an error message, I don't get any idication as to why some files will add and others will not.  I have tried to drag them to the publish section a single photo at a time and in a group.

  • The ipad won't sync some photos, saying the file can't be read by the ipad, however it will sync some photos taken at the same time which are the same size and file type.  Why does it reject some and accept others?

The ipad won't sync some photos, saying the file can't be read by the ipad, however it will sync some photos taken at the same time which are the same size and file type.  Why does it reject some and accept others?

Hi there. I'm having the same problem: my iPad won't import some photos from a folder, saying that they can't be read. They are all JPEGS and some photos taken at the same time have synched fine, but out of a folder with 200 photos, it only lets me synch 37. I'm synching albums created via Photoshop Elements 6, which has worked fine until now.
I've tried deleting all photos and re-synching, and have also deleted the iPod Photo Cache, but it hasn't made a difference.
The iPad auto-updated to the latest version of iTunes, so maybe that's what's causing it?
    Any advice gratefully received!

  • After installing new HDD, some iPhoto Events/Photos won't display

Problem: I upgraded to 1TB HDD a couple of days ago and tried to use the System Restore from Backup under Disk Utility. It never worked, got to a blue screen and just hung. So I reloaded Snow Leopard and then used Setup Assistant to move Apps/Files/Settings from my Time Machine Backup.
Today I was going through files to see if anything was missing and found a number of Events from 2010 that wouldn't display in iPhoto '08, just dark squares but with the event name underneath.
Rolling the mouse over the empty square displayed the correct number of photos for the event but photos wouldn't display.
Next I "Browsed" the Time Machine Backup (from iPhoto) and the same Events were also empty on Time Machine Backups.
The funny thing is the empty events are scattered meaning I have a full Events from Feb and March 2010 but empty events from Jan, Feb and May 2010. And then when I go into the Empty Events on Time Machine, I can call up the photo number but the photo won't display.
Is there a way to recover these photos? I'm pretty sure there on the TM backup and also on my new HDD.
As a "suspenders/belt" type person, I have the photos backed up on a Windows PC but rather work through this problem first.
iMac 20" 2.4 Ghz Mac OS X (10.6.4) AEBSn AXg

You can enter TM while in iPhoto and do a search for some of the missing photos by file name. When you find a version that appears to have them in exit TM, go to your Pictures folder, reenter TM, go to that version and restore the entire library. I'd keep both your current library and the restored. Then you can check to see if the missing photos are in the restored library.
If neither library have all of the photos but do combined you can use the paid version of iPhoto Library Manager to merge the two libraries into a new 3rd library setting the option to not import duplicates. That should get you a complete library.
    OT
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto (iPhoto.Library for iPhoto 5 and earlier versions) database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger or later), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. There are versions that are compatible with iPhoto 5, 6, 7 and 8 libraries and Tiger and Leopard. Just put the application in the Dock and click on it whenever you want to backup the dB file. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.
NOTE: The new rebuild option in iPhoto 09 (v. 8.0.2), Rebuild the iPhoto Library Database from automatic backup" makes this tip obsolete.

  • Why won't some photos or videos sync to my iPad when they work fine with iPhoto and iTunes?

Why won't some photos or videos sync to my iPad when they work fine with iPhoto and iTunes? Other photos taken with same camera sync fine from iPhoto while certain events are inexplicably incompatible. I've recently foundvthecsame occurrence with certain mp3s and videos from iTunes.

For photos try deleting the photo cache from your computer and then re-try the photo sync and see if they then copy over - the location of the cache, and how to delete it, is on this page http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1314
Not all video formats that work in iTunes are compatible with the iPad - the supported formats are (from http://www.apple.com/ipad/specs/) :
Video formats supported: H.264 video up to 720p, 30 frames per second, Main Profile level 3.1 with AAC-LC audio up to 160 Kbps, 48kHz, stereo audio in .m4v, .mp4, and .mov file formats; MPEG-4 video, up to 2.5 Mbps, 640 by 480 pixels, 30 frames per second, Simple Profile with AAC-LC audio up to 160 Kbps per channel, 48kHz, stereo audio in .m4v, .mp4, and .mov file formats; Motion JPEG (M-JPEG) up to 35 Mbps, 1280 by 720 pixels, 30 frames per second, audio in ulaw, PCM stereo audio in .avi file format
Have you tried Advanced > Create iPad Version and then sync those versions to the iPad
The iPad's supported audio formats are :
HE-AAC (V1 and V2), AAC (8 to 320 Kbps), Protected AAC (from iTunes Store), MP3 (8 to 320 Kbps), MP3 VBR, Audible (formats 2, 3, and 4, Audible Enhanced Audio, AAX, and AAX+), Apple Lossless, AIFF, and WAV

Some photos will transfer to keynote and some won't. Does anyone know hot to fix this?

Add new songs to the playlist as needed. Then sync your iPhone in iTunes and the new songs will be added. As long as you don't change your settings for sycing music, it will only sync the selected playlist.

  • IMovie won't apply transitions between some photos

Software won't apply simple transitions between some photos. Have tried super short transitions (dissolve for eg) for a photo that appears for extened time, but no luck. Sometimes, this 'block' then affects the entire project, not allowing any transitions at all within that project.
Have reinstalled iMovie, which appeard to fix the problem, but as soon as I made say, 4 new transitions, it won't allow to make any more.
Is there a limit on total transitions for projects?

    Hey catspaw (great nick)
    Answers below:
    1. Its a 15 min project - with mostly DV - and saw, about 20 pics at the end of the project
    2. Have 200 Gig free disk space. Not an issue
    3. The problem has occurred on two very recent projects. And only appears at the end of the project (ie. just as I am doing finishing touches - which has driven me to distraction!) Both projects are no more than 15 min - both have transitions (short dissolves, overlaps) thru most of the project. But at some point iMovie appears to say 'enough' and won't allow any more transitions any where else of any length (ie under transitions menu the word APPLY is no longer highlighted). Which is odd to say the least.
    4. No problems on earlier projects (but admittedly, this has started in the latest iMovie HD that i have been using). Have been using iMovie for over a year though.
    5. All projects stored on internal drives.
