"Some postscript settings will be ignored... using non-PostScript printer"  HELP!

Hi,
I recently installed Sigma Photo Pro on my Mac G5 (Power PC), and now when I try to print to my Epson Sylus 2200 from PS (version 8.0), I get the evil message in the heading above, and the colors look terrible. I've reinstalled drivers, deleted programs and tweaked settings to no avail. Any thoughts?
many thanks,
laura

I'm surprised this is the first time you've seen this message.  I get it all of the time when I'm printing .tiff's using a desktop non-postscipt printer.  I know that Epson is non-postscript, so that message should come up all of the time.  There are work arounds like installing a third party RIP, but you shouldn't have to.  If the color does not look good, you might have to revert back to where you were when the prints did look good.  Something has changed.

  • Some PostScript specific settings will be ignored

After upgrading to Adobe CS3 Premium Suite from Photoshop CS, I am no longer able to get a good print using my custom ICC profiles on an Epson 2200. I am running the most current OS 10.4.9. I have read and checked many posts and followed all workflow, but after every preference is set, I then click 'Print' only to get the dialogue box "Some PostScript specific settings (Interpolation, Calibration, Encoding) will be ignored since you are printing to a non-PostScript printer."
My only choice is to click 'Print' then cancel immediately following. I attempted to print from CS, from which I had never had a problem and never gotten this message. But following the upgrade, I get the same dialogue box, and when I print anyway, the same red prints as I do in CS3. Why is Photoshop ignoring my preference and settings for ICC profiles? I have not found the answer anywhere to this. I have scoured the Adobe, Epson and this forum. Thank You, Bill

OK first of all you might not need to worry about that message too much. CS3 is not the first version that had that message. It was in CS2 as well. On top of that, if you are printing from Photoshop to an Epson, there is very little, or maybe nothing, that you have to run through a PostScript RIP or which requires PostScript. Nearly all of the features of Photoshop will print just fine to a non-PostScript printer. That message is more applicable for those outputting to prepress seps. For desktop-only output, you can click "Don't Show Again." I don't even use the Output portion of the dialog box, in other words the part of the dialog box that causes that message.
Keep in mind...thousands upon thousands of photographers print wonderful color-managed work to Epsons without using a PostScript RIP. I'm one of them. I am using CS3 with a 2200. However, I worked out any kinks in the color-managed workflow with Photoshop CS2, so frankly I forgot whatever I struggled with back then, if anything, because the print workflow that worked in CS2 still works in CS3. I think part of your trouble is going straight from CS to CS3. Keep studying the print workflow for CS2 and CS3 to make sure all your settings are correct. In particular,
    1. Color Handling should be set to Photoshop Manages Colors, and the Printer Profile must be correct
    2. Print Settings in the Epson Print dialog must be set correctly, and the Media Type must match the Profile, and must be set to Advanced Settings.
    3. Color Management in the Epson Print dialog must be set to No Color Adjustment.
I am sure you have seen those instructions on the Web but it is very important that they be correct for a proper handoff from Photoshop to printer, avoiding choosing settings combos that either cancel each other out or result in double color management.
Chances are the error message is not at all related to your problems getting good prints. Try to figure it out before throwing yet another crazy variable into your system in the form of GutenPrint. The regular Epson 2200 driver works fine.

But once again, I do not want to lose my other texts, app progress, and photos. I could sync the photos but i would still lose the app progress and texts. I would only restore if it was the only option left, but the other space, as already stated, isnt the main concern. The main concern is those 'deleted' texts. If they go, then a good size chunk of the other space goes. I know you CAN delete texts for good. It worked fine before. All i want to know is why its not working for me now, and how to fix it.
I also know that when you delete texts on your iphone, they get marked for deletion, however they stay on your device (thats why they show up when you search for them.) then when you sync your device with itunes, the texts marked for deletion should disappear. When i synced they didnt disappear. Thats what i need an explanation/solution for. Why the texts marked for deletion didnt get fully deleted after the sync.

  • [ACL]If I open netbios for some ip deny will be ignored

    Dear,
For my study (CCNA) i`m playing around with Cisco in a lab enviorment to get familiar with the CLI and basic configurations. I need to block with an ACL access to netbios on client side and accept netbios to the file server.
I have made the following configuration for that:
LABSWITCH# Show access-list NETBIOSExtended IP access list NETBIOS    permit  tcp any any 10.5.2.130 0.0.0.255 135    permit  udp any any 10.5.2.130 0.0.0.255 135    permit  tcp any any 10.5.2.130 0.0.0.255 137-139    permit  udp any any 10.5.2.130 0.0.0.255 137-139    permit  tcp any any 10.5.2.130 0.0.0.255 445    permit  udp any any 10.5.2.130 0.0.0.255 445    deny    tcp any any any 135    deny    udp any any any 135    deny    tcp any any any 137-139    deny    udp any any any 137-139    deny    tcp any any any 445    deny    udp any any any 445    permit  ip any any
And ofcorse i have added the acl to the interface with
    LABSWITCH# interface GE1 service-acl in NETBIOS
If I create a ACL with only the deny part + permit ip any any it works great!
But then i can`t connect to the file server...
If I activate the acl above i have access to the file server but also to the clients.
    Thanks in advance

    Dear,
I have found my mistake. I had the acl on the GE1 and it must ofcourse on the FE1-FE4 interfaces of the "clients".
    It`s working now

  • Using non OEM Print Cartridges.

I have just fitted non oem ink cartridges in my HP 6520 and they will only display in the ink levels on the printer front panel a question mark and through the printer software on the PC i get an exclamation mark, can this be bypassed or do i have to "guess"? "Genuine"HP Cartridges are so expensive, can anybody help?

You would need to take the issue up with the supplier of the third party cartridges.  HP has no way to tell the ink levels if they have not been properly programmed into the ink supplies or if the cartridge has been marked as previously used.

if i use services like Printopia will i need to do any page setups?
how do you guys out there do this?
    please advise!

Actually several. Your printer manufacturer may very well have one, but several third party apps are available. I have had pretty good results with Printer Pro. As far as printing to a device that is NOT on your network, no. How would it connect?

  • HT1320 I have a new IPod Touch 5G, 32 gb and suddenly it will not turn on, and will not restore using UTunes.  Any help appreciated.

I have tried many times to restore my  new IPod Touch 5G in I Tunes and it will not allow me to do it.  My Ipod will not turn on at all even when on a fresh charge.  Only displays the arrow leading up to ITunes logo.  I have tried the method of holding the home button and on button and this does not work.  Any help appreciated.
My I Pod was working fine until the day I updated the software to 6.0.1.

    Try:
    - iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
    - Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode

    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
    - If still not successful that indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

  • Installation of Ghostscript in order to print to non-Postscript printers

    Hi,
As I understand Ghostscript can read a PostScript or PDF file and convert them into a form you can print on a non-PostScript printer.
As a reason what we have no postscript printers , I want to use Ghostscript for printing reports into OA 11i on printers without postscript drivers.
I will appreciate for any suggest and help for better understanding of how to install Ghostscript and usage/practice with it.

Would Archive and Install be the best option, then?

  • My mac will not shutdown or restart. Any help?

My mac will not shutdown or restart, it goes to a grey screen and just hangs there, I have left it overnight and when I have a look in the morning it is still hanging on the grey screen. Any help?

Zap the PRAM and reset the CMS
A small amount of your computer’s memory, called “parameter random-access memory” or PRAM, stores certain settings in a location that OS X can access quickly. The particular settings that are stored depend on your type of Mac and the types of devices connected to it. The settings include your designated startup disk, display resolution, speaker volume, and other information.
    Shut down the computer.
Locate the following keys on the keyboard: Command (⌘), Option, P, and R. You will need to hold these keys down simultaneously in step 4.
    Turn on the computer.
Immediately press and hold the Command-Option-P-R keys. You must press this key combination before the gray screen appears.Continue holding the keys down until the computer restarts, and you hear the startup sound for the second time.
    Release the keys.
Resetting PRAM may change some system settings and preferences. Use System Preferences to restore your settings.
How to Reset Your Mac's SMC
The method for resetting your Mac's SMC depends on the type of Mac you have. All SMC reset instructions require shutting down your Mac first. If your Mac fails to shut down, try pressing and holding the power button until the Mac shuts down, which usually takes 10 seconds or so.
Mac portables with user-removable batteries (MacBook and most MacBook Pros):
    Shut down your Mac.
Disconnect your Mac portable from its MagSafe connector.
    Remove the battery.
Press and hold the power button for at least 5 seconds.
    Release the power button.
    Re-install the battery.
    Reconnect the MagSafe connector.
    Turn your Mac on.
Mac portables with non-user-removable batteries (MacBook Air and some late 2009 MacBook Pro models):
    Shut down your Mac.
Connect the MagSafe power adapter to your Mac and to a power outlet.
On the built-in keyboard (this will not work from an external keyboard), simultaneously press and hold the left shift, control, and option keys while you press the power button. Release all keys at the same time.
Press the power button to start your Mac.
Mac desktops (Mac Pro, iMac, Mac mini):
    Shut down your Mac.
    Unplug your Mac's power cord.
Press and hold the Mac's power button for 15 seconds.
    Release the power button.
    Reconnect your Mac's power cord.
    Wait five seconds.
Start your Mac by pressing the power button.
Alternative SMC reset for Mac Pro:If you have a Mac Pro that isn't responding to the normal SMC reset as described above, you can force a manual SMC reset by using the SMC reset button located on the Mac Pro's motherboard.
    Shut down your Mac.
    Unplug the Mac's power cord.
Open the Mac Pro's side access panel.
Just below the Drive 4 sled and adjacent to the top PCI-e slot is a small button labeled SMC. Press and hold this button for 10 seconds.
Close the Mac Pro's side door.
    Reconnect your Mac's power cord.
    Wait five seconds.
Start your Mac by pressing the power button.

  • Some questions about using non-english characters and keyboard layouts

I've found a lot of guides about how to enable characters in Linux, and that is easy enough, but I want to understand it better.
The way that I understand it, if you don't enable a given set of characters in locale.gen, then in theory you should not be able to either use or display a that set of characters in any programs (however, certain programs, like web-browsers seem to have work arounds).
Furthermore, in order to be able to type characters in X programs, you need to enable those keyboard setups in your xorg.conf (in addition to enabling those locales in locale.gen).  I don't think that this effects the displaying of characters
Then, Last, you need a way to switch back and forth between different keyboard layouts within your X environment in order to type those characters. There are programs to assist in switching keyboard layouts provided by some DE's.  By using these keyboard layout tools, I alter the behaviour of all programs started in X.  (for example, swithing keyboard layouts in gnome's settings will alter the behaviour of kde programs, firefox and openoffice.)
    How close am I?
    A few more questions:
If I'm a Spanish student which locales do I need to enable.  There is a long list of locales that start with ES, and I don't know if there are any drawbacks to enabling unnecessary locales. I think that the ones that I need are es_ES* (Spanish spanish?) and es_MX* (Mexican spanish?).
What is do the *@EURO locales do?
what does the locale setting in rc.conf do?

  • Apps that use non-public APIs will be rejected

    Hi guys
Just reading the iOS guidelines before I get too deep into making the native version of a web app.
    I was wondering what:
Apps that use non-public APIs will be rejected
means when submitting an app made in AIR - does it mean you can't use your own custom classes?
    Cheers

If you mean custom AS3 classes, yes you can use those. What you can't do is create an ANE that calls into the private frameworks of iOS itself.

  • Sound has no valid device sound path although exporting device sounds was requested in the export settings. This sound will be ignored.

I have bopped around the forums here for a while now, and while other people seem to have had the same problem as I am having in the past, I come to find that all of the solutions that have worked for others, do not in fact, work for me.
I am running Flash Professional CS6 On an Acer Aspire. 4 Gigs of RAM, 500 Gigs of HD.
The exact problem that I am having is as follows:
I record a sound bit in Audacity, Export the sound as and MP3 File on my main computer Hard Drive.
go to File>Import>Import to Library, I locate the file that I had created, then select it to be imported to my Library.
I then create a new layer in my timeline, Label it as sound, place a new key frame into the timeline layer at the place in the animation that i hope the sound would start, set the audio sync to stream instead of event, then press CTRL+ENTER, which initiates the Test Movie function.
At this time, the "Output" box Pops up and it states,
"Sound has no valid device sound path although exporting device sounds was requested in the export settings. This sound will be ignored."
No sound is played and i cannot, for the life of me, figure out why. I have tried all the troubleshoots that i can find online. I checked the publishing settings and nothing is being Overridden, I've attempted to untick the "export device sounds" option, but it is grayed out and cannot be toggled. I have attempted switching the MP3 format sound clip to a WAV format sound clip. I have attempted to re-recording the sound clip and re-importing the clip to the library. I have checked my computers speakers and everything is in working order and i have even checked to see if other projects sound works.
I pulled up a previous project that i had finished a while back that had loads of sound imported the exact same way and it all works exactly as i expect it too. The sound plays, there is not "Output" box claiming an issue. It seems that the issue, whatever it might be, is stuck to this project itself.
I have even started a new project, imported and placed both the MP3 and the WAV files into the sound layer created, CTRL+ENTER, and it works just fine without problem.
If there is anything that i might have accidentally messed up in this projected that you know about, like settings that may have been changed that would cause such an annoying and seemingly unfixable issue, please let me know. I really do not want to loose this project over such an utterly stupid error.

I've moved your question to the Flash Pro CC forum.

You obviously have a faulty SIM card. Go to an Apple store or a phone store and get a replacement SIM card.
