Some purchased music protected and some arent!

I am trying to insert some of my purchased music into my ipod but it wont work. instead my itunes freezes up and have to shut down itunes. I noticed that some of the purchased music files have a black lock icon which indicate that they are protected and those are the ones I cant copy. Some of my purchased music dont have that lock. I used to be able to insert these files into my ipod but now i cant. What can i do?

Ok so some of the songs I have mightve been unprotected like you said. well ive resynced my ipod more than once but i still have trouble transerring those protected tracks into my ipod. Ive played the purchased songs and all. Computer is authorized too. Could my ipod be f*king up then? Im thinking of borrowing a friends ipod and testing it out on my computer.

Upgrade to 7.4.3.1 - Lost Purchased Music, Playlists and Library

I upgraded to 7.4.3.1 last weekend. This weekend I start iTunes and none of my 100+ songs are listed in my library, all of my playlists are gone (replaced with the generic 90's Music, Music Videos, My Top Rated, Recently Added, Recently Played, Top 25 Most Played) playlists - all of which are empty. Also under the "Store" heading...my Purchased folder is gone. I must have had 30+ purchased songs in there.
Any ideas how to get everything back?

Hi, I had the EXACT same thing happen to me.
Upgrade to 7.4.3.1 - Lost Purchased Music, Playlists and Library.
I let iTunes update last Sunday 10/14/07 and today I opened it up and Vista started rebuilding the library, then crashed and said it did not have a solution to this problem and shut iTunes down.
It created a, iTunes Library (Damaged).itl file.
I tried the help file that said to drag the C:\Users\ME\Music\iTunes Music folder onto my Library folder but it crashed after transferring 20 songs or so.
All of my music is in this iTunes Music folder so it is just a matter of trying to get iTunes and Vista to rebuild my Library so I can recreate my Playlist.
So I will keep looking for a solution, but this is getting silly !

I have this issue with iTunes that just freaks me out. When you click repeatedly on a track (because you are a nervous person), the title goes into edit-mode. You then have to back out by hitting the escape button. This is keeping me awake at night! Is purchased music protected from this? It seems to go in edit-mode too, so you can easily edit the label my mistake if you don't pay attention. Does anybody have experience with this?

How do I convert purchased music videos and television shows into my Itunes liabrary and sync it onto my ipod?

I recently purchased a music video and a television show episode off of Itunes. It was in my liabrary until I plugged in my Ipod nano 4th generation for it to sync. As my ipod is syncing the music video and tv show episode were'nt in my liabrary and they didn't sync onto my ipod. Yet when I log into my itunes store account the purchsed content is there. My guess (and it is just a guess) is that what you are trying to do is no different than recording a TV programme to a VCR then watching it at a time of your convenience, probably the main reason why people have purchased VCRs, PVRs and the like.
However, with commercially produced DVDs, there is an encryption built in to prevent copying, and it the discussion of how to overcome this encryption that Apple will not permit on their forums.

And if you do not have access to your Old computer then you will not be able to get the songs which were copied from CDs and downloaded from a different source other then iTunes Store. And also you will lose all your Playlist and other iTunes settings and will have to recreate your Playlist etc.

You need to transfer the iTunes Library from the most recent backup you made before the hard drive was replaced.
You can't transfer the full iTunes Library from the iPad back to iTunes.
There are third-party Windows applications that will transfer data from an iOS device, but they don't re-create the iTunes Library exactly as it was before.

Not without your old computer, no you can't. You could use Home Sharing to get content to your new one, but again, you would need access to the old one. My question is... before syncing to the new one... a message pops up warning you that syncing will erase the content from the iPod and replace it with the content in the new library. Did you ignore this warning?

Husband and Wife trying to combine music libraries and share between all Apple technologies in the house.

My husband and I both have apple ids which we use to purchase music, movies etc... We want to combine our libraries and pull from the same. We've been doing this manually - but wonder if we can use the Cloud to support 2 apple ids or if we have to create a 3rd apple id / email and somehow transfer our individual music to the 3rd apple id / email. Creating the 3rd email / apple id will be a pain since we will never use this as an email. We need Help figuring out the best approach.

You can't combine two Apple IDs... I have the same problem I have an iCloud mail account and an Apple ID i use to purchase music with and I'd love a way to combine them. Apple has said in the past their looking into a possible way of doing this but I'm doubtful they will... :/

HELP! I can't transfer my purchased music to my ipod

After purchasing a new pc and transfering my songs over via an external hard drive, I can't transfer new music that I purchased to my ipod. I purchased the new music with the new pc and a recently loaded version of iTunes via the website.
When I try to update my ipod with my new music I get a message that says my newly purchased songs are linked to a different library. How did I goof this up....buh.
Any help would really be appreciated, thanks in advance.

Rick,
First thing to do is confirm that your new computer has been authorized to play the purchased music.
And if it's not too late, you'll want to deauthorize the old one.
And the message you're getting is most likely that your iPod is connected to a different library. If you have successfully transferred all your music (including the purchased music) to your new computer, you can safely let iTunes link your iPod to this iPod.

Probably dumb question but here goes. We have 2 computers sharing, and we purchased songs from both of them. Is there a way to combine the Purchased Music ? And can you burn from a shared music folder ?

Try assigning Queen as the Album Artist on the compilations in iTunes on your computer.

Yes.
On their iOS devices, under Settings>iTunes & App Store, they should use your Apple ID. When they log into iCloud, iMessage and Facetime, they should use their personal Apple IDs.
