Some question for experts !! Urgent

I have following queries:
1) When a copy fucntion fails, if i get an error message saying a variable could not be determined. Can i change the text for the same to make it user friendly.
2) If i have a fucntion geeting executed before display of layout...i.e it executes and on success layout gets diaplyed. Now if the fucntion fails, ideally, we get error message and layout is nt displayed. can i have soem check so that it displays error message and also show layout. fucntion executed is a copy fucntion and if there is nothign to be copied it would fail but that should not stop the displ of layout for users.
3) can we ever highlight a row in layout with diff color and after soem function execution the highlight goes away...
please help me on this urgently..expert opinion is awaited

1. the error message could be changed in the abap code
2. why dont you have the layout showing first before executing the function. [...assuming that you're using WAD to configure].
You can set the "characteristics" to show in the layout even wthout data by setting its properties in the Query designer to show "master data". this you do by clicking on the characteristic and changing the setting to Master data in Advanced tab.
3. Having colors in rows can be made possible if you're using Report Designer. [i.e pulling the query into report designer].

  • Some question for Sun Java System

    Dear all:
I use Sun Java System We Server 7.0 for my project.
But I have some question on SJSWS 7.0
    My server runtime information
    1. OS is RedHat Enterprise 3
    2. memory: 2G
    3. SJSWS version: 7.0 preview 3
    My questions
Q1. The speed that download image is slower than the speed that run JSP page . The image's size to smaller than 5 KB. Is it possible to speed up download image
Q2. My machine has 2GB memory, The system use swap area always. I think it isn't enough of SJSWS 7.0. How much memory size that SJSWS 7.0?
    Many thank for everybody

first off, please try the Update 1 release in stead of technology preview releases: http://www.sun.com/download/products.xml?id=467713d6
Q1> So I want to ask it is possible to display image and text at the same time like use Tomcat ?
there is nothing in the server end (whether it's Tomcat or any other web server) that affects how the content is displayed on the browser.
Q2>I detect The ram was used over 800M~1G by SJSWS7. My website has 80~150 user in workinghour
Are you seeing Web Server process measuring so much memory?
Q3> Is it possible that the admin server use SJSWS7U1 and some or all of node use SJSWS preview 3, because the server is running on line, I can't stop them for update server
No - you want to switch to U1 anyway, since it's a released version (and is absolutely FREE for production use).

  • Some questions for ressources provisionning.

    Hello people.
I'm currently playing around with LDoms on a new brilliant shiny T5520 and I have some questions about.
My actual configuration is the following:
    - 1 T5520 Server with 32 Gb RAM and a 8 cores 64 threads Niagara T2
    - 4 SAS 143 Gb disks on controller 1.
The disk are mirrored using raidctl in two pairs of raid 1, c1t0d0 and c1t2d0.
The primary OS is installed on c1t0d0 and I plan to use ZFS for creating vdisks LDoms guests on c1t2d0.
I have access to a netapp but only with iscsi and nfs.
    So, the questions:
    - Does it make sense to use ZFS on hard mirrored disks ?
    - Is it best to add the two disks non mirrored to my ZFS pool and backup snapshots on the netapp ?
    - Does my LDoms needs more memory that I planned ? Each guest will have between 2 Gb and 4 Gb for the bigger. I will have, at the beginning 4 or 5 guests for testing / integration, LDAP / DNS services, Licences services, Web Portal, and, maybe, if I could convince my boss a little SPARC Gentoo Linux, just for fun :)
    Thanks :)
PS: Forgive my poor English, I'm a French bas***d guy :)

You mean T5220, great machine anyway :)
    - RAID hardware is supposed to be faster than ZFS, but ZFS offer more functionalities.
    - you need both mirroring and backup, even if nice, ZFS snapshot cannot replace a backup software.
    - Keep a free memory pool not allocated and ready to increase the RAM size of a LDOM (rebooting the LDOM will be necessary). And hum... use it to play with linux for sparcs :-)

  • Activity monitor question for experts.

When I open activity monitor it is constantly changing. I have safari open, but it is there and then it isn't and then it is in activity monitor. How do I read this and is that normal?

In order to help people, they should understand the purpose of these boards.
Had you read the OP's post, you would see that his Activity Monitor is working and his question was simply why Safari appears and disappears from the AM window.
Your issue is entirely different and that is why I suggested starting a new thread with your particular problem/issue which has nothing to do with Safari in the Activity Monitor.
Perhaps the term "hijacking a thread" seems rash to you, but it is a common expression with no personal attachment to it. It merely means that someone has used another poster's thread to pose a completely different topic.
To best get help on this or any technical board, first search for instances of your particular issue, which may have already been solved, and if you do not find such a topic, start a new thread with the Subject describing your issue.
Once people start responding to other posts in a thread, nobody any longer knows who is answering whom.
It is always preferable to start a new topic if you want a quick solution to a problem, rather than bury it in another person's thread. It's called "Netiquette" and it is not my invention. It's been around as long as the net has been around AFAIK.

  • Some questions for SOAP attachment

Hello to all, i am newbie :( with web services and i have some questions...... I want to make a service for transfering data from client to server through a Web Service. Right now i can transfer stings, int but with images, videos i don't know what to do.... Well the software that i'm using is j2sdk1.4.2_04, jakarta-tomcat-5.0.19 and soap 2.3.1 (downloaded from Apache site). I confused with MIME and DIME, i know that if i want to transfer data like images/audio i have to use one of them, BUT which one? I think MIME supported from Java and DIME supported from Microsoft, is that right? Can i make my client using DIME? If i choose MIME i have to use JavaMail and JAXM?
Please if can help me because i have very confuse and i feel like lost in space...
    Thanks for your time, John

I've been able to find an answer to most of the questions.
use CNTRL key when clicking in the network type drop down, to be able to reveal the "Join Network" option, not normally visible without CNTRL key
5gig N issue is causing all the slow extended network issues, its slightly faster when transferring between ethernet and wifi client
Still don't know if it's possible to connect a modem to the extending network base station

  • Question for experts: SVG vs GIF

    Hello everyone
Lets say I have a website that is populated with multiple simple and complex, plain white icons. These icons will be resized in muse where needed, sometimes they will be with reduced opacity. The website is heavy on parallax scrolling and fading (opacity), and most – if not all – of the icons will be using one or both scrolling effects.
Exporting them from illustrator the GIFs are sometimes smaller in size than the SVGs.
The target audience is expected to have decent and updated computers e.g. IE 8 and below not relevant. let us suppose all users have Browsers capable of handling SVGs, and parallax.
What is better or easier for the browser? SVGs of GIFs? even if the size of the GIFs is smaller?
is rendering somewhat complex SVGs (many anchor points) "harder" than GIFs?
Any reason to not prefer SVGs except for backwards compatibility with older browsers/machines?
What would be best practice here?
    Any advice/discussion/opinion greatly appreciated.
    Jorge Vallejo

First, GIF should be avoided in favour of PNG: a well optimized PNG is always smaller in file size and also offers more quality options (for example more than 256 colours that GIF allows for). The trouble is that Adobe products cannot achieve this without jumping through a LOT of hoops. More about that below.
Here is a bitmap - SVG performance comparison:
    1) SVG files must be drawn & rendered in the browser. That means the xml data must be read, interpreted, and displayed - which is far slower than a bitmap. A png still has to be decompressed, which does not take up a lot of processing power. Rendering a SVG is far slower (incomparably slower depending on the complexity).
    2) bitmaps are generally hardware accelerated (via the GPU), a number of svg operations are not. For example, I believe css transforms for SVG is not hardware accelerated, and thus very slow to animate through that method.
    3) somewhat older browsers have trouble rendering many individual SVG objects. For example, only in March 2014 was this issue resolved in Firefox.
    4) svg performance is highly dependent on the specific browser as well. Take this test:
    http://jsperf.com/d3-svg-opacity
It runs fastest on Opera and IE 11 on my system! Firefox is dreadfully slow.
    5) SVG rendering is far slower on mobile platforms. Unless very simple ones, convert to png files.
Now, as to your files: an SVG sized at 500kb is a LOT - and then you mention you will have more SVG files ranging from less then 100kb up to more than 200kb. My question would be what type of graphics these will be in your page: background graphics, icons, ...?
Besides, SVG images produced by Illustrator can (should) be optimized. A good tool for that is SVGO: svg/svgo · GitHub a visual version can be downloaded at svg/svgo-gui · GitHub
    Some must-read articles:
    http://css-tricks.com/using-svg/
    http://jaydenseric.com/blog/how-to-optimize-svg
    http://kylefoster.me/svg-slides/#/
If you are doing a lot of animation, and there are a lot of other things going on in a page, then PNG is the way to go. SVG is best for simpler logo graphics and icons. Game developers using Flash also always convert all their vector files to bitmaps for much improved performance in Flash!
Now to my second point: Adobe's Save for Web function is abysmal for png optimization. Yes, there are techniques in Photoshop to improve the optimization of PNG images, but it takes a lot of effort:
    http://www.smashingmagazine.com/2009/07/15/clever-png-optimization-techniques/
PNG Optimization Guide: More Clever Techniques - Smashing Magazine
And even after all this work, you still cannot export a PNG with a limited colour palette with full transparency in either Photoshop or Illustrator. This is important for file sizes: especially Muse websites tend to be so bloated that they take a long time to load up - and there is really no reason for this if you optimize your graphics properly.
To optimize any PNG file, use Colour Quantizer:
    Color quantizer
I cannot live without this little (freeware) tool anymore - it is worth booting your mac in Windows mode just to use CQ to optimize your png files. It automatically takes care of optimizing your png files, reducing them to the absolute minimum - compared to Photoshop's standard Save for Web disaster, file sizes are at least 50% smaller in file size or more. And it includes a very simple to use quality mask brush that allows you to control/fix areas which may be troublesome when reducing the number of colours.
Having said that, it really depends on the type of graphics you are intending to place in your layout. Could you post some examples?

Not much, print it using you printer (it's should be not far
    from your
computer: Have a look around and if you find something with
    paper inside,
that's the printer). Put the papers in a folder and send them

    one who uploads
the pages himself, but I'm sure there are lots of MS experts

glad to help with the job).
Just a reminder: if your pages need to be uploaded as soon as
    possible,
don't forget to put some extra Air Mail stamps on the
    envelope!
Best of luck trying to find the printer!!

  • Runtime error -  question for experts

    hello  experts,
I was trying to debug a program for unicode compatibility, and when I finally thought I had finished it.
    This runtime error shows up
    "Error analysis                                                                                |
An exception occurred that is explained in detail below.
The exception, which is assigned to class 'CX_SY_READ_SRC_LINE_TOO_LONG', was
    not caught in
procedure "K_KKB_FIELDCAT_MERGE" "(FUNCTION)", nor was it propagated by a
    RAISING clause.
Since the caller of the procedure could not have anticipated that the
exception would occur, the current program is terminated.
The reason for the exception is:
There was an attempt to read program "ZPM04_UPDATE_INFOREC_FROM_PO" from the
    database.
The READ REPORT statement allows you to copy a program text into an
internal table. The occupied line length in the program text must not
exceed the width of the internal table.
The internal table "\FUNCTION=K_KKB_FIELDCAT_MERGE\DATA=L_ABAP_SOURCE[]" is 72
characters wide. The program line is
    |    78 characters wide."
because the error occured in standard SAP programs, I am at loss..
    Please give your suggestions.
    Goldie.

You need to Change the setting in the program ZPM04_UPDATE_INFOREC_FROM_PO, not in the program SAPLSBKH.
SAPLSBKH read the Report ZPM04_UPDATE_INFOREC_FROM_PO and it gets error because some lines in the ZPM04_UPDATE_INFOREC_FROM_PO are longer than 72 characters.
As suggested by other SDN members you have to follow this steps:
    Go to SE38.
    Enter ZPM04_UPDATE_INFOREC_FROM_PO and change.
    Utilities > Setting
In the Editor Tab, set the checkbox "Downword Compatilbe line Length (72)". You can find out this checkbox in the last section of the Editor tab.
    Press Enter.
In the Pop-Up, Say "YES" for the line breaks.

  • Some questions for IdeaCentre Q100

Hello, I recently purchased the Q100 compact desktop (2 days ago) for $177 USD, but now I am having second thoughts on keeping it, mainly because I am unsure how upgradeable it is.  Can some please try to answer my questions, below?
    -  The system came with 1 GB memory.  I cannot find any official specs saying if more RAM can be installed.  Can memory be upgraded to more than 1 GB, like maybe 2 GB.  That would be just fine if it did 2 GB, since it is running XP anyway.
    -  The BIOS is pretty sparse on what things I can change.  For example, can the amount of shared video memory be changed from 128 MB to something else?   It would be nice to tone it down to 64MB or up to 256MB, etc.
    -  Speaking of the BIOS, have there been any revisions I can download if I decided to update and reflash it, such as to fix a known problem?
    -  I have already experienced a blue screen (XP) on it, and that was the night I took it out of the box and ran a few things.  I am wondering if that was just a thermal issue, since the Q100 doesn't use a fan system, even though it is running on an Atom.
Anyway, just need to know if anyone has any ideas on the questions above, especially the first 3.  Thanks in advance.

I've been able to find an answer to most of the questions.

  • Some questions for K8N Neo2 Platinum

Hi guys I'm quite new to Amd64 and just got the Neo2 plat and 3000+ from garage sales 2 days back. Just wanna ask the experts here is it true that sata 1 and 2 for this board doesn't have pci locked? I read this in 1 of the reviews before and it stated something like this...
We should note here, that we did run into issues using SATA 1 and 2 and overclocking. We quickly found out that these two SATA connectors did not lock with the PCI lock. We switched our drive to SATA 3 or 4 and everything was just fine. I am not sure if this can be fixed with a bios update, but unless you like hard drives corrupted, you should use SATA 3 and 4 if you plan on overclocking.
    http://www.bleedinedge.com/reviews/msi_neo/msi_neo_05.html
Anyone has any problems so far about this or this problem has been fixed by newer bios? Another thing is that I'm keen to overclock this chip as I'm reading those overclocking reviews but based on you guys experience, how far can I push using stock hsf with the current idle temp? My load temp for my current setup is 50c max running prime95 stable for 8hrs+
    Cheers

Thanks for the posts guys been a great help. Now I'm reading the issues of this board for the link below and thanks Supershanks for the link. You been a great help
I like MSI products especially their board coz I find their stuff well design and distro is good. I'm also using 865PE Neo2 PLS on my prescott no problem so far but after reading the related problems of this Neo2 Plat from the link above, can I say this board is a quite a failure product?
When I just got this board, I'm having problems when trying to change the HT Multiplier. It just empty when I hit enter and refused to go back even when I hit esc key. Reboot and tried a few times till I figured out it can be changed using the +/- key but this problem is gone after that and my first impression is my new board spolit? I mean don't the engineers or tech guys check through before they released these board to the market? There's no QC for this? Maybe I'm wrong to use the word, QC or etc sorry I might not be good at this. I wonder if they knew this bug in the first place? If they do but refused to fix it and just release the board that's lame. If they don't then the QC or whatever final checking/testing is real bad for this board coz they don't even realized this problem
Now I saw the link for another problem of mine again
    Problem description:
Starting-up the system gives you a hard lockup (freeze) with or without blank screen.
Some times, at boot time, the system says it is overclocked, but you know there is no overclock.
You must clear CMOS for be able to boot at every system startup.
I have this problem too and I'm going to read it but I don't need to clear bios, I just need to hit the power button again and the machine will boot to bios but this is quite irratating haha now I'm going to read to see how can I fix this problem.
Once again don't get the wrong idea, I'm not here to flame MSI coz I like their products too just that a quick browse of the link above made me realized this board has so many problems haha
Anyway thanks again for your time guys take care

  • Some questions for class project? Trying to learn more about the iPhone

Hey guys, I am looking for some quick feedback on the iPhone and possibly the iPad for a class assignment. If anyone could share information on the following questions that would be fantastic. Thanks!
    1. What are some of the disadvantages of Apple not providing Flash/USB for its products(iPad, iPhone, iPod Touch)?
    2. Why should customers buy an iPad (no USB) rather than the Kindle (USB ports)?
    3. Why do you think Apple doesn't provide Flash/USB ports to its products (iPad, iPhone, iPod Touch)?
    4. Would the lack of USB/Flash in Apple products affect your decisions to purchase Apple products versus a competitor's product?
    5. Do you expect that Apple will begin to incorporate technologies such as USB/Flash in the future as competitor products begin to steal market share?
    6. Apple views Flash as a dying technology. Steve jobs has even compared not supporting Flash on the iPad to Apple dropping support for floppy drives. Do you believe there is any value to this analogy and why?
    7. What do you think could be some good aspects of no USB on the iPad?
    8. What affect will the implementation of HTML5 have on the issues with iPad's lacking Flash capabilities?
    9. How did you gain an interest in Apple how would you rate that product and would it it recieve a higher rating if it provided USB/Flash?
    10. Would you be more interested in purchasing a Apple product if USB use was provided? Or would this quality not have any affect on your decision to purchase the product?

This sounds more like a marketing survey...

  • Random Shutdowns Started Again After Fix - Some Questions for Others

    ::sigh::
After a very prompt repair followed by 3 weeks of constant use with no problems, tonight I had another random shutdown. (Here we go again.) I never was able to find anyone at Apple who could tell me what they fixed (it was not a logic board replacement) but apparently it wasn't a permanent fix.
    Some observations and questions:
When random shutdowns start, my "previous shutdown code" in the system log changes to -72, and continue to register as -72 even when I shutdown the computer myself. During the period when the system was working after the repair, shutdown codes were always 0s or 3s. Have others noticed the same pattern? In my experience, once that first negative code appears, it doesn't change back to normal, regardless of how the computer is turned off (except after the repair).
Also, tonight was the first time since my repair that I used the 3-prong power cord with the AC adapter (rather than just the two prong). Could there be any connection (perhaps a faulty cord sendinga surge to the system and damaging something)? During the last round, shutdowns occurred whether on AC power or battery, but I'm wondering if the use of that cord may have triggered the problem in the first place. Has anyone that has had random shutdowns never used the 3-prong cord at all?
The other thing I've noticed is that importing digital camera photos into iPhoto often seems to trigger shutdowns (not all of them, but some of them). My random shutdown tonight happened after editing photos I'd just imported from my camera (and right after I ejected and unplugged the camera). Could the connection to the camera somehow cause a problem? Has anyone who has had random shutdowns NOT connected a digital camera or used iPhoto?
Just grasping at straws here to try to figure out what causes this problem (since apparently Apple hasn't figured it out yet). Looks like I'm going to have to take it back again. I love my MacBook better than any PC I've ever had, but I never had these kind of hardware problems with my PCs (and if I did have a problem it was usually pretty simple to troubleshoot and repair).

I think you're confused, it's not as simple as that.
Here's why - I just ran two yes terminal sessions on my wife's MacBook and let it run for 15 minutes. Fan came on, system is running warm but running just fine.
On my RSD MacBook, while I was at the Apple Store, trying to demonstrate the RSD it ran two yes terminals for like 5 minutes and kept running however when I closed Terminal - wham RSD.
It IS NOT heat related. Most likely the system "thinks" there's a heat problem by a bad sensor, wire whatever.
If I can't run my MacBook at 100% (actually 200%, both cores) for as long as I need then it is defective and should be returned to Apple.
When my MacBook was working I ran EVN (Escape Velocity NOVA) which runs under Rosetta, man that thing sucked the battery dry in less than 60 minutes and the system got pretty warm too. BUT IT KEPT running and didn't shut down. When my system was acting up I couldn't even browse the Apple web site and ut would shutdown.
    Greg
PS I installed the SMC update a week before my system started having RSD.

  • Question for Experts / Instructors

    Hi,
I have a minor dilemma on my hands. Working as a professional in the photographic and post-production fields, and I've been tasked with providing some instruction (across 2 or 3 apps) for a small group of clients (or clients of a friend I should say). These folks are definitely not computer illiterate, but they're also not well-versed with more complex programs like Photoshop, Motion, etc.
Sadly I don't have an opportunity to sit down with some or all of them ahead of time and find out what they want.
Their goal is to get to a basic functional level, without paying $$$$ each for multiple learning center type classes. My goal is to find out the methods you guys feel work the best when bringing someone else up to speed on a complex piece of software.
Do people like the core of their learning to be with books, video, instruction, or a combination? And what type of books or video work best for that matter?
Any opinions on: a)single task lessons with sample files (where the learner duplicates everything being done after they've seen it); b) multiple example lessons (where they follow along, but don't duplicate - they learn by seeing the same tools used for multiple tasks); or c) reference-based learning, where you basically act as a human encyclopedia (whether you write it, record the screen with narration or do it on stage).
My research thus far indicates most people who are comfortable with operating systems and things like MS Office, are likely to try and learn with books. Basically they buy the most comprehensive or well-reviewed book they can find and keep it at their side as they try to work through the software. However this can't substitute for the task I've been given, only supplement it. Either way I need to recommend the best type of book for their purposes, after I'm gone.
Some possible approaches for me: Keynote presentations where functions are outlined and explained, and screenshots used; Live demonstrations for each task; Basic introduction to as many important functions as I can cram in there, how they're accessed, and then send them off with a book or video recommendation to continue learning; Straight Q&A (IOW, let them decide what they need to learn quickest and ask about it, then I try to demo something).
I'm a little afraid of that last task because there won't be time to prepare a demo for every possible function they might throw at me. At the same time it would be the most direct way to find out where they're stuck, skipping the other items I might assume are important but which they don't need or don't care about.
I've only got 1 day with them, maybe a day and a half if I can swing it / they can schedule it. What are your recommendations for teaching people at this level? Which types of materials or progression helps people retain stuff the best? Thank you for any insights or suggestions you might have....

    Heya,
I think DiffKid is referring to a combination of active and passive methods. Books and videos are both passive, so by themselves they may not hold a person's attention. Demoing/lecturing will directly engage people, but they eventually tire of the direct contact and being forced to move at someone else's pace.
Start broadly and then get more granular. I would recommend a flashy, shiny-object demo of an app that piques their interest. "You, too, can make really cool stuff like you see on TV! Marvel at my casual display of power!" Don't spend time on details. Focus, instead, on an overall feeling for layout and workflow, i.e. drawing is done here, fine adjustments are done here, etc.
If you get them excited, they will be self-starting. At that point you have to tailor it to their personalities: some people will want a step-by-step tutorial (books, videos) to follow to a precise, finished result. Some will want to mess around and see what they come up with, and others will want more personal direction.
Just don't start with anything dry. If you throw them into the deep end with a bunch of technical details, they will get bored and stop learning. Entice them, make them feel empowered, then turn them loose.

Unusual for 3 people to post similar question but in 3 different sections of the forum. Here's the 3rd one:
