Some recovered PDFs don't open in Adobe products; okay elsewhere

I had a bunch of recovered files from a formatted disk, mostly PDFs, and slogged through them on my Mac, double-clicking to see what they were, where the default opener was Acrobat. Some were okay, and some were called "damaged" and could not be opened. Later I found the "bad" files could be opened in Preview or viewed in the Finder's QuickLook, or could be imported -- even the individual pages -- to desktop applications. It appears the only applications I have that could not deal with them in some way were Acrobat Pro 10.1.3, Photoshop, and Illustrator. I posted a Dropbox link at Dropbox - PDF-24525.PDF if anyone wants to see one. I have not tried this in Windows. If I export as another PDF from Preview, the new file is okay in Acrobat.
Because I can use them in, say, Preview, and export if needed, there is no need for a lot of work on my part, but I hoped this would get back to Adobe engineering for a fix.

You might run updates and use the latest patch of Acrobat X i.e. 10.1.13
If still it did not work, then I would suggest you to please refer this KB doc and try out the solution:

Adobe acknowledges problem with the latest Snow Leopard update 10.6.8 and with this work around, I can open PDF's using the Google Chrome Browser.
Is this the ideal solution---NO. Safari is my main browser. I now have to use a separate browser for PDF's.

You can't believe the time I spent to solve this problem before calling Adobe for help. My Apple Care policy expired a month ago . As I use Photoshop Elements, I was not charged by Adobe for their help on the telephone.

I note from your system details that you have the plugin for adobe pdf s so I would have expected the files should open in firefox '''without''' you needing to explicitly download them.
Once the files are open in firefox, you will also get the option to save them permanently to a location on your computer. If you wish I suppose you could set the file type pdf to be associated with and be opened by firefox instead of with the Adobe Acrobat Reader, but that would just seem to be an additional complexity.

I was a kid when I made a documentary for a school project. I've been trying to figure out how to retrieve the file. 4 years ago, I was able to get the files off the Iomega Zip drive (finally), but I now see the file is saved as a .A4P. There is also a file saved as a .PKG as well, but I don't know how to open this with my Windows 8 COmputer.

.a4p is an Authorware v.4 (Windows) project.
Interesting you have it as a .pkg...usually that's a published-on-a- Mac extension, if I recall.
At any rate, can you put the file up on a Box, Dropbox, FTP, etc...and send me a URL?
I should be able to published it so you can view the project (it would be an .exe).
It can't be converted to anything though - not without manual effort.

I couldn't launch Dreamweaver CC. An error told me to install "java se 6 runtime". But when I clicked OK I got another error telling me there is a network problem! I found this forum post on CS6 products, so I tried the download link, installed java 6 and presto, it worked! Thanks!

Create accessible PDFs that only open in Adobe Reader

Is there a way to create/tag/mark PDFs so that they are forced to use Adobe Reader to open? Sounds like a stupid question I know but we have a large number of accessible fillable PDF files that are now being opened by the integrated PDF readers in some new web browsers and as a result, we are experiencing issues with their functionality (fields can't be filled in, submit button not working). All works fine however if we force to open in Adobe reader. Unfortunately, these forms are used by the public and we have no way to force a PC configuration setting on them to do this as we could if these were only internal to our company. Therefore, we were wondering if there was a way to create the PDF file in such a way that only Reader will open them?
Any info would be greatly appreciated.

When you say the forms are accessible, do you mean fully compliant with WCAG 2.0 guidelines and/or the Matterhorn Protocol compliance criteria for PDF/UA? If you are not sure, that would be my first suggestion. Truly accessible documents *should* work in any of the major browsers. The new PDF/UA Reference Suite includes an example accessible form - Document 10. It is in Danish but the tagging and other accessibility concepts are the same in any language.

When pdf file is opened with Adobe reader, it shows extra whitespace after "w"

I am unable to attach the pdf file here. But my pdf file is having a hyperlink "http://www.google.co.in/". When i open it with Adobe reader, its shown as "http://w w w .google.co.in/", if the same pdf file is opened in some other pdf reader, the link is properly shown and i can click over it to browse. This is a bug in Adobe Reader.
Please revert back mentioning where should i attach the pdf file.

I have created the pdf files using txTextControl.ServerTextControl
The additional space after the "w" is a result of charaster spacing, there is no whitespace in pdf file after "w"
If i open the same pdf in some other pdf reader like Sumatra pdf reader, it gets opened without any white space after "w".
However, there is no space after the "w" in the PDF document, its the adobe reader issue.

PDF does not open in Adobe Reader 7

I am working on a project where we create PDF documents with FOP. The generated PDFs open in Version 6, 8 and 9 but NOT 7! We get an error
"There was a problem reading this document(114)" The document is partially rendered and disappears when you scroll down etc. I need to know is there a setting specific to Acrobat 7 that is causing this or is there something in the XSL mark-up that Acrobat 7 does not like. I am really under pressure for a fix on this one so any help or assistance is greatly appreciated.

Apache Fop http://xmlgraphics.apache.org/fop/ takes an xml file and combines with an xsl stylesheet to create a PDF. (Although we are using a .net verion FONET). This is a problem with Adobe Reader 7.0. I cannot upload a file since the material is highly confidential (a criminal record!) I can confirm that this has been tested on several machines. The PDF is valid and can be opened in Adobe Reader versions 6, 8, 9 and Foxit but not Reader 7. I can only assume that there is something in the generated PDF that Reader 7 does not like and perhaps this is a bug since the PDF can be opened in earlier and later verions but not 7!

Black Sabbath "13" Digital Booklet pdf Will Not Open in Adobe Reader

I recently purchased the new Black Sabbath 13 (Deluxe Version) album in iTunes and the pdf digital booklet will not open in Adobe Reader. I only get errors saying the file is either not supported, or is damaged. Any suggestions?

Pdfs will not open in Adobe Reader 10.1.0 with os 10.6.8

I have an iMac, Snow Leopard v. 10.6.8 and Adobe REader 10.1. When I click on a pdf to open, all I get is the QuickTime icon, which opens the 1st page only, but when I try to print even that page, it is blank.
I have tried dumping the AdobePDFViewer plugin from the Internet Plug Ins as indicated below, to no avail.

This has been SOOOOO frustrating. When I called Adobe, they want to charge me $39.99 to talk to a technician! Since their download for the Reader is "free," I find it objectionable, to say the least, that they have the audacity to want to charge me on a "free" application program!
I'm ready to change to an alternative Reader, if their is such a thing, if anyone out there has a suggestion for that kind of program. I would really like to solve the mystery of why my Adobe pdfs won't open, however. This problem has been going on for about 2 weeks now, since August 7th.

Select a PDF file, CMD+I, check the Open With section, and ensure that AR is selected. If not, then select it and click on the Change All button. Alternatively, select Preview, which is my default PDF reader.

Adobe Acrobat 8 Prof - PDFs will not open in Adobe automatically

I have a workstation that has Adobe Acrobat 8 professional installed. I was first notified that the user complained that each time he opened a PDF in an Email, it would open in Explorer. I had him save a document to his c; drive and did a view file type. In that listing, there was no Adobe professional listed. I attempted to browse to the adobe.exe file but each time, it would default back to explorer, even if I checked the box for it to default to the adobe.exe file that I browsed to. I also noted that adobe never became an application in that listing.
We uninstalled adobe and reinstalled it. Still not successful. We ended up installing Adobe Reader, but the user wants it to open in Adobe Professional. I know that he can save the document then open it with Adobe profesional, but this is an extra step and he would like to be able to just double click on the file and open into Adobe Professional.
What do I need to do to make this work?

Would like pdf files to open in Adobe/Preview not Quicktime

Here is my issue...any suggestions on what to do/try? I have 10.2.8 with Quicktime 6.5.2 and Adobe 7.0(not 7.0.2) and can only get pdf files to open using Quicktime (this wouldn't be a problem except that only the first page can be seen and sometimes the text quality is very poor). I would like to click on a pdf and have Adobe or Preview open the file. I am using Firefox and really prefer Firefox over Safari or any other browser for its speed. Currently I have to save the document to my documents folder and than right click on them to open them with Adobe/etc. Another problem that I am having is that when I try to say do an update, like updating to Adobe 7.0.2, I am not able to just click on "download", I always seem to have to right click on the link and choose "save as..." or something like it, but I can't even get that to work at the Adobe site today. I have attempted to research both of these issues and have come up with a possible Java problem?? when trying to download, etc...with Quicktime 6.4, but I have Quicktime 6.5.2??? any ideas? Also, I thought that maybe by going to Adobe 7.0.2 I could have the option of adding Adobe as the prefered plug-in while browsing. Currently in "preferences" of Adobe under "internet" there is a box that WON'T let me check it that says "Web Browser Options...Display PDF in browser using:". Open the QuickTime System Preference Pane. Under the Browser tab (I think) is a button that says MIME Settings.
Remove the check mark next to the .pdf (Image formats) quit Sys Prefs and relaunch your browser for this change to take effect.
From this point on all .pdf file will "download" (instead of display in the browser).
Control-click on one of these downloads and choose whatever app you want from the "Open With" menu.
