Some sent messages show up as numbers....

Some of my sent messages show up as names, others just show up as numbers. My phone was activated and my contacts transferred by a Verizon employee at a local store. Anyone have any idea as to why this is happening and how I can fix it.??? Thanks.!

  • IOS 4 Mail Threading  - should sent messages show?

    Hi There,
I upgraded my iPhone 3G to iOS 4. I've set up Gmail (Exchange) and also a Rackspace provisioned IMAP account.
I've mapped the Rackspace account's paths for /Sent, /Drafts, etc.
Regardless of whether I'm replying from desktop or the iPhone mail app, my replies do not show in threads.
Are Sent messages supposed to show up? Or are threads simply 'incoming messages' with the same shared subject?
I was under the impression a thread was more like a Gmail thread where sent/received messages with a shared header are all displayed chronologically.
    Any insight would be appreciated!

I have the same issue and it is driving me a little nuts.
Some of my messages in the iPhone native mail app seem to show threaded.. i.e. there is a small number next to a message to show how many contributions to the thread and inside the thread I can see my friend's email and then above my email and then above my email back to them and so on... Yet this is by far the minority of the messages. Most show only the mail received from the other party in the conversation. And the small number which states how many messages are in the thread is different than the figure in Gmail which notifies of same.. because of course half the threads are not there!
I've tried many solutions - including one which had me go into Gmail, remove all of the 'inbox' labels from my email (effectively remove my mail from the inbox), re-add my messages to the Inbox, and then pull email back into my iPhone.. phew. After which things seemed to work on some conversations. Yet back to square one now.
I have tried the Exchange mail option, the Gmail option. I've tried push and fetch methods. I've tried deleting and starting again. No luck.
I though the issue may be that I was replying from within iPhone then continuing some conversations in Gmail online. That didn't seem to be the issue. I've now seen note that Google is offering the ability to 'turn off' conversations in Gmail.. perhaps rolling out this option has caused server issues with Push mail. Don't know.
Either way it seems I must use Gmail via their mobile view in Safari - which actually works very well, with much of the native Gmail functionality.
Is there a likelihood Apple will fix what is going on? Is it an iOS 4 issue? Or is it a Gmail issue? Very strange, very frustrating...

  • Some sent messages lost in Apple Mail

I have a new Macbook Pro early 2015 running Yosemite and use Apple Mail.
I am surprised at how slow outgoing messages are to send, regardless of whether I'm on a fast or slow wifi network, regardless of whether the message has rich content.
More troubling is that once in a while, and I think its for particularly long sends, the sent message never appears in my Sent box.
    Rebuilding doesn't restore them.
This is on an imap server.  It doesn't use a Path prefix, uses Port 993 and SSL is selected.
Can anyone help?  I need to keep my sent messages for reference.  I saw an older post like this from 2007 but was never listed as resolved.

BTW, you posted in the Lion forum instead of Yosemite. For best results post in Yosemite the next time.
We need to determine if this is a Spotlight issue or a problem in Mail. It would be helpful to know what type IMAP? iCloud, Gmail, Yahoo, Outlook.com or other.
If you search in Spotlight in the Finder (top right in menu bar) for the message subject does it show up? If yes, can you find the message in Mail search?
HOW TO RE-INDEX YOUR SPOTLIGHT CACHE FILES
    Option 1)
From the Apple menu, choose System Preferences.
    *  Click Spotlight.
    *  Make sure  Mail & Messages is checked under the Search Results tab.
    *  Click the Privacy tab.
    *  Drag your drive to the list. Wait a couple of minutes.
    *  Remove the item you added.
    *  Spotlight will re-index the contents of the item you initially dragged to the list.
    Option 2)
    Follow the steps here.
Use OS X Recovery Disk Assistant to reset Your files and folder permissions
When you restart Spotlight will reindex your entire drive.
    Option 3)
Copy the text below and open Terminal (in /Application/Utilities). Paste the code into the Terminal window at the prompt.
    sudo mdutil -E /
You will be asked for your administrator password (and if you've never used the sudo command you'll need to accept the warning presented). When you type your password, it will look like nothing is being typed. That's normal. Once you've typed your administrator password, press Return.
This will completely remove the Spotlight index and force a new one to be created. Probably not necessary, but I would immediately quit Terminal and restart your Mac.
    SUMMARY:
Depending on your Mac and the contents of it's hard disk, re-indexing may take several hours. Doing this overnight is a good option if you have a large drive.
You can tell if it's still in progress by simply looking at the Spotlight menu: There's a blinking dot in the middle of the magnifying glass while indexing is occurring. You can also open Activity Monitor in Applications/Utilities and type in md in the search filter. You should see mdworker32 and mdworker. mdworker32 is the Microsoft Outlook Spotlight index and mdworker is for system.
Until this process is finished, Spotlight won’t know the contents of your disks and neither will Mail.

  • AOL and mail some sent messages are not saved

I have been having a problem with sent messages using mac mail and my aol account. Occasionally the message will get hung up and will take a long time to send. The send progress bar fills up and the message is eventually sent, but it is not copies to my sent folder. This happens for about one out of every ten emails that I send.

    Hello p:
    Welcome to Apple discussions.
That is, I am relatively sure, an AOL server problem (happens to me occasionally).
You might try Open DNS (the free one) to see if it will address other possible problems.

  • Since I got my iPhone4 whenever I sent a message the sent message showed up in a box with a green background.  Yesterday the background switched from green to blue.  Does this signify anything?

Does the background color of the box containing a sent message have any significance?  As in, it was green and now it's blue.

To expand on the previous poster.
    For those blue iMessages.
    http://www.apple.com/ios/features.html#imessage
Messages sent when blue don't use up your SMS plan with your carrier, purely data through Apple.
Only works when messagings another iPhone user running iOS5 or later.

  • All my sent messages showing up im my drafts folder

I have 2 IMAP accounts set up in Mail. They all work fine, except that every email that I type (sent or not sent) shows up in my Drafts folder for that account. I have to go in once a week and delete 100+ drafts. It has made it very hard to actually use the drafts folder.
Mailbox Behavior for Drafts is set to "Store draft messages on the server" and for Sent is set to "Store draft messages on the server", Delete "Never"

Same issue. You get each draft with more and more words from the email as it seems to save every couple of words. Instead of saving just one file, it saves a new one for each draft autosave. Also, they stay there when you've sent the email itself.
It is only with IMAP. I've never had problems with Apple Mail, but there seems to be numerous problems with it and IMAP accounts - as seen on this forum. They are serious as we use email as a major mode of communication.
There is actually not one properly solved discussion about IMAP and Apple Mail in this forum. Does anyone know how we go about getting some 'official' assistance regarding the general IMAP woes of Apple Mail. Is there somewhere I can bullet point the outstanding bugs and common problems?

  • Some Sent messages are missing

My wife has noticed that about 5-10% of the emails she sends are not in the Sent folder. When we checked the Console it gives the following error:
Error (null) occurred while trying to append messages to outgoing store. Ignoring and proceeding delivery...
This is using an IMAP mailbox with our hosting company (not mobile me). There is an archived post in these forums with others reporting the same problem - but cannot find a way of fixing it. We have repaired permissions but it didn't help.

well guys, not that I am happy that this happens also to you... but at least I can say that it' is not only my problem, but a common problem.
Reading the console message, where do you guys think that the problem is comming from?
    Mail.app, Leopard, IMAP ¿?¿
came on! where are the mac gurus with some ideas about this problem!?!?
    greetings

  • Sent Messages Show in Inbox

Outlook 2007 SP2 and all current updates
    on Win7 Pro 32-bit
Blackberry Curve IMAP'ing email via Internet Email setup
New emails I send from Outlook properly show in my Sent Items folder only.
Emails to which I Reply or Forward from Outlook show in my Sent Items folder AND in my IMAP folder's Inbox as an unread message.
Reply/Forward from webmail or Blackberry does not create a duplicate item.
I'm using a hosted email solution from Rackspace.com (I've contacted them and they have no idea) and have my account as IMAP in Outlook.
In Outlook, I have the default Save sent mail in Outlook Sent Items Folder, which saves it in the default PST, not the IMAP folder's Sent Mail.
I do have an Outlook Rule which copies Sent Mail from the default folder over to the IMAP Sent Mail folder so that I can see my sent items via webmail. However, I have also disabled and deleted this rule and the problem persists, so I do have this rule active
    again.
There are no rules or filters on either webmail or on my Blackberry.
Also, the copy of the sent mail that shows in my Inbox does not have any Internet Headers, so I can't look to see if the duplicates have the same message ID or not.
In case the Blackberry has a part in this, I turned off my Blackberry, which had no effect (although if the source is the Blackberry Internet Service servers or my cell carrier, then just turning off my device wouldn't make a difference).
I've found a few other posts about this issue online (including one other mention on GroovyPost), but the only "solution" was to disable the function of saving sent items entirely. This isn't an option for me (although that does, of course, work).
The problem just showed up one day, so of course the first thought is "what's changed?". The only thing I can think of is a possible WindowsUpdate, though I'm reticent to start uninstalling patches one at a time to test this.
I've tried creating a new Outlook profile using a new PST, but no joy.
Any ideas or suggestions would be most welcome.
    Thanks!
    Brian

    Hi,
This issue might be related to the side effect of the Windows update. Try to uninstall the update from Add/Remove Programs. Check the box before: Show updates. Locate
    the update and uninstall it.
If the problem persists, please try system restore. For the detailed steps, you can refer to this article:
    http://windows.microsoft.com/en-IN/windows7/products/features/system-restore
Please take your time to try the suggestions and let me know the results at your earliest convenience. If anything is unclear or if there is anything I can do for
you, please feel free to let me know.

  • Contact uses a tracfone, does not receive text messages but sent messages show on iPhone 6

As recently as 2 weeks ago, text messages where working to and from this contact. His carrier with Tracfone is AT&T.
    I've already done some troubleshooting:
I am able to receive messages from my contact with the Tracfone, and it appears to send the message. But he never receives it.
He is able to send/receive messages from other contacts - including contacts with plans, and contacts with straighttalk/prepaid.
I am able to send/receive texts from other contacts - including those with plans and those with prepaid.straighttalk/prepaid.
He is not able to receive a group message from me, although other contacts do.
I am able to send/receive group messages from other contacts - including those with plans and those with prepaid.
I have tried with iMessage turned on and with it turned off.
I have tried with MMS messaging  turned on and with it turned off.
I've verified the number is not listed as blocked.
I've deleted and recreated the contact and verified the number is correct.
Cellular data is enabled, as is LTE voice & Data.
I have service, and have not received any red exclamation points indicating failed to send.
I've already tried turning the device on and off.

Bunifufu, we appreciate you providing us with your phone type details. That is definitely odd that this is occurring. Just in case, what type of phone does the other user own? While it is strange they aren't receiving your messages, and that your phone displays sent. (Especially if the other person uses an iPhone and iMessaging too) There may  be an issue on their end if it is indeed sending correctly on your end.  NicandroN_VZW  Follow us on Twitter @VZWSupport  If my response answered your question please click the "Correct Answer" button under my response. • Problem with sent messages showing up in drafts

When I send an email, it does send successfully but many times won't show up in my 'sent' file but shows up twice in my drafts file . . is there a setting that has inadvertently been changed or ??
    Any assistance most appreciated
    Craig

    Hello Imlearningalot,
Thank you for the question.  This may be caused by a miscommunication with your email server.  You may want try turning off “Store draft messages on the server” in Preferences > Accounts > Mailbox Behaviors:
Store draft messages on the server
Draft messages stored on the mail server are available when you use your account on other computers.
This option is available only for IMAP and Exchange accounts.

  • In Mac Mail sent messages show as 'from'

I am using Mac Mail for my Macbook Air and iPhone. When I go to the sent folder on either device my name is displayed as 'from'. I know it's from me, da! And can't get it to change to the 'to' display. I have changed the view > message attributes > to but then that changes my inbox to my name as the 'to' display. I have read numerous issues with this over the past 4 years but nothing has been fixed?
    Anyone?

I should add that this is not an issue of the badge telling me that I have mail and then when I open the app, it corrects itself.  The emails on my iphone actually appear unread until I read them again on the phone.

  • Some Mail messages show html code

I am using Mail 6.2 and Gmail IMAP.  Some Mail that I move from my Inbox to another Mail folder part of the message appears in html code in the folder where I moved the message.  The html code did not appera while the message was in my In Box.  If I look at the message in Gmail, no html code appears and the message has the same lable as the Mail folder where I moved the message.  If i look at the message on my iPad there is no html code.  The problem only appears to happen within Apple Mail

By the way, also, the html code is interpreted correctly by the html tester on the following web site:
    http://www.webtutorialplus.com/html-code-tester.aspx
So it seems that perhaps a simple edit should make it compatible with Mail App.
I have verified that all uninterpreted messages where all I see is html raw code, are interpreted and rendered beautifully by the tool at the link above.  All I need do is to coy and paste the body of the message.   So it seems that what is missing is something to trigger the interpretation in Mail App.   Right?

  • Sent messages showing up in Inbox

Ever since I upgraded to an iPhone 3GS from an original iPhone I've been having a strange thing happen when sending email from my iPhone. I am getting an copy of every email I send show up in the Inbox of the account I used to send the email. For example if I send an email from my MobileMe account to my Gmail account I get a copy of the email I sent in the Sent folder, as I should, and I get a copy in the Inbox of my Gmail account, as I should, but I also get a copy of the same email in the Inbox of my MobileMe account, which I should not. This never happened on my original iPhone.
I have tried deleting the email accounts from my iPhone and syncing them again via iTunes and problem still persists. This is annoying and I would like to find out how to stop it. Any suggestions will be appreciated.
    Regards,
    Michael

Interesting here for me...I have had the BCC myself off for sometime...yet I'm still getting the copies of everything (sent/etc.) into my inbox. This didn't start immediately when I bought the 3gs. I'm thinking that I turned on BCC me once...but somehow it's "stuck" or something. Ideas? Ditch mail account and start over?

  • Lost some sent messages on IMAP

I upgraded to Lion the other week and I'm having a problem with Mail; some messages I send are not stored in the IMAP server.
In the system.log i see this message:
Mail: Error (null) occurred while trying to append messages to outgoing store. Ignoring and proceeding with delivery
    Anyone notice the same problem?

    I have the same problem.
    Any fixes yet?
I got the same error but now with OS X 10.8.2:
2012-12-30 3:53:32.247 PM Mail[1408]: Error (null) occurred while trying to append messages to outgoing store. Ignoring and proceeding with delivery...
