Some songs not shared

I have my main iTunes library on the big iMac in the sitting room and share the library with all the other machines in the house but some songs, even though they show up in the shared library, refuse to play and stay at 0 seconds. The only thing that I can think of that links the unplayable tracks is that they are all converted from FLAC to M4A with XLD or Max. I have a lot of tracks converted this way and the majority are shared happily. Get Info on the recalcitrant songs doesn't reveal anything unusual. Does anyone have any suggestions as to where the problem may lie ?
Cheers, Daniel

Well, I've discovered what the problem is. I rip my tracks to 160 VBR and I've noticed that iTunes displays the bit rate as 160, whereas Get Info in Quicktime reveals the real bit rate. iTunes actually gives the real bit rate for these songs that won't play when shared so now I need to find some way of editing the files so that they behave like the rest.

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
Where exactly are you looking and what do they look like, there are several iCloud icons used in iTunes.

  • I preordered an album and i only got some songs not all, what happened

i preordered an album and i only got some songs not all, what happened??

What do you mean 'only got some songs not all' ?
Has the album now been released ? If it is has and you've paid for it (you aren't charged when you pre-order an item, only when it's released) then you should be able to download the complete e.g. via the Purchased tab in the iTunes store app on your phone, or the Purchased link under Quick Links on the right-hand side of the iTunes store homepage on your computer's iTunes.

  • Some songs not found in same album, same directory!

But I can "add file" no problem. This happens whenever I move the music directory or move the directory (I am careful to copy the directory exactly).
So, what is happening in Itunes that some songs are simply not found, although nothing has "relatively" changed except the path? I give it the new path and update the directory.
The downer is that yes you can delete and re-add but you lose all your hard work on the rating system.
    Anybody figure all this out?

One way is to select all the tracks and set them to be part of a Compilation (Get Info on all the tracks, then go to the Options tab). The album will then show in the Compilations in the Artists column of the Browser and not under a bunch of artists.
Or you can edit the Artist or Album Artist field so that the information is the same for all tracks. Compilations is probably the most common method for soundtrack albums and such, though.
    Regards.

  • Some songs "Not Found"

Had to do a complete re-install of 10.5.6 last month (long story).
Brought over my iTunes Library & Preferences from back-up. All seemed fine. There are all my tunes & cover art. Things working well.
After a few weeks, I noticed that some songs I clicked to play would get an exclamation point at the beginning, and I'd get an alert dialogue saying "iTunes cannot find the song ______. Would you like to find it?", or something to that effect. I can easily navigate to the library of songs, click on the song, and tune is reconnected.
What I cannot figure out is how to re-link an entire CD without doing each track individually (a pain). Or is there a way to re-link all the errant tracks?
This seems to only affect tunes burned from CD, not my iTunes downloads. And even then, not all the CD burns. At this point, I've gone through most of the A-C albums, re-linking by hand.
A shortcut (without looking my play count) would be appreciated.
    Cheers!

This might be a good thread to watch. there are others with this problem too and have not done a re-install:

  • Sync causes 'some songs not authorized to play on this computer'

When syncing iPod to iTunes I keep getting the message that some songs were not copied because they are not authorized to play on the computer.
How do I determine which songs are not authorized? I have either purchased all of my songs iTunes or loaded them from my CD. Therefore, all should be "authorized"

    Diane,
I may have had another ID when I first started using iTunes - I just can't remember - I'll try to narrow it down using the smart playlist that you have suggested. As I'm thinking, I wonder if a disk that my daughter created for me a few years ago as a birthday gift (Dad's Mix) contained music that she had purchased with her account ID on iTunes, could be the culprit. Anyway, as I said, I'll try to whittle it down to isolate the songs that are generating the message. Thanks.

  • Why are some songs not fully downloading?

Most of the songs that I've downloaded lately are not playing fully. They're stopping less than halfway through and skipping to the next song. I know this is happening to others also, is there any way I can fix this? It's rather unfair, since my mum has payed for all these songs, yet there's no point even buying them if I can't listen and enjoy them. Thus, I was wondering is there anything I can do, or must it be repaired by iTunes? Also, have iTunes aknowledged this problem? Thanks!

Does the track play correctly in Quicktime Player or another media player?  If it does then it is an iTunes issue.  If it doesn't then it is possible the file was not completely downloaded, or is corrupt.  If you are in a country where re-downloading is possible (iTunes in the Cloud and iTunes Match Availability by Country - http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5085), delete the track and download again (Downloading [using iOS or computer] past purchases from the App Store, iBookstore, and iTunes Store - http://support.apple.com/kb/ht2519).  See tips on downloading in https://discussions.apple.com/message/19097773

Incomplete playback seems to be reported several times a day here.  I don't recall this happening before iTunes 10. I would suggest posting feedback to Apple so they aware of an issue.

  • Some songs in shared library fail to play

I have my iTunes library on an external USB drive connected to a mac mini. The mini shares its iTunes library (iTunes 7.6) over the airport network, and I could successfully connect to it and play all songs on my macbook pro (also iTunes 7.6).
I have just added some songs to the mini's library. They were flac format which I converted to Apple lossless using XLD, a procedure which I had used successfully in the past (when the library was connected to the macbook pro). Trying to play these recently added songs, only songs under three minutes long play correctly. The others refuse to start, showing the 'silent loudspeaker' icon. When un-highlighted they show an exclamation mark. Get info on the macbook pro tells me the songs are there, and they play perfectly well from the mini.
Another macbook pro running iTunes 7.5 also shows the same symptoms.
Other than the length of the songs, I can't see any difference between the songs that play and the songs that don't. Permissions on the music library on the external drive are me - rw, all - rw, but permissions are set to be ignored on that volume (I am reluctant to change this because the volume also contains a time machine backup, which is a bit touchy about things like that!).
Can anyone suggest a solution to this problem, please.
    Many thanks.

The fix for this is to select the track that show this effect in the iTunes library, and go to Advanced - convert selection to Apple lossless. Then replace all the old tracks with the new ones in all your playlists.
It appears that the Apple lossless files I created recently using XLD have this problem, in conjunction with this version of iTunes/Quicktime. Strange, since lots of files previously created by XLD (possibly an older version?) work fine.
Meanwhile, the current version of Max creates Apple lossless files which work fine.

  • Some songs not downloading to my new iPhone 4 S

After I sync I'm getting a message - 20 songs not download to your iPhone.  See iTunes for more information.
There is no information in iTunes.  During a sync, I've also seen a message saying you must accept a new store terms of service.  However, when I go to the phoen on my mobile or computer, I'm not prompted to do this.  In fact, I can even find a place to voluntarily accept new T&Cs.  Thoughts?
This is happening on a new iphone 4s.  All of these songs synced fine with my Iphoen 4.
BTW, several of these songs are recent purchases
    - no DRM protection
    - purchased with the account that I'm syncing under
    Thanks, Michael.

    Hello Vmelo
Note: To purchase songs from the Wi-Fi Music Store, you must also have been signed in to that account in iTunes the last time synced iPod touch or iPhone.
    More info at http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1491?viewlocale=en_US
You may need to re-sync to re-upload the iTunes Store account info to the iPhone.

  • Why are some songs not available for ringtones?

I had a ringtone on my old RAZR phone and loved it. I would like to make it my ringtone on my Iphone. The song is available in Itunes and I saw another post that said some songs even though they don't have a "bell" in the ringtone column can still be made into ringtones. I have the CD, but I downloaded the song anyway and it tells me that song is no longer available for ringtones. How do I go about asking Apple/Itunes to make it available again?

Best thing is to call Apple Support in your country, and/or to post your feedback at:

  • Some songs not playing on iPod in iPhone

I've had about 4 iPhones over the past few years and before that i had a second generation iPod nano. Over this period of time, I purchased a lot of music thru iTunes either on my computer or thru the one in iPhone. I then transferred music over from each iPhone to the new one. Usually this has worked fine, however since I upgrade to 4S, I've noticed that songs I have purchased thru iTunes on past iPhones (or the old iPod) no longer play. Although when just testing out different ones now I notice some old ones will play and others won't. I'm not sure if it's just a random issue or not. If I have it on shuffle and it comes to one of those songs, it either stops, or oddly enough, it will start playing a different song but still show the other song's album cover and information. If I play a song individually and it doesn't work, it will either just do nothing or it will skip to the next song immediately. I can't quite figure out what's happening with this but I'm guessing it has to be a migration issue.
Has anyone else experienced this and know how I can fix it? Is it just a matter of authorizing something within iTunes or iPhone?
    Please let me know. Thanks!
    -Pooja

This is actually happenening on my non-itunes bought songs...basically songs that got converted from another source...perhaps from my old MP3 player from Sony...the problem is, they used to work on my ipod, and now they don't. I did try resetting the ipod, but that didn't seem to help.

  • Songs are syncing to phone but some songs not showing in the playlist, you have to manually search for them...

    Hi guys,
All music is syncing across from my purchased items to my phone... However, some are missing from the 'purchased' playlist and I can only come across them when scrolling through the 'Artist' or 'Song' menu. I then have to manually add them back to my purchased playlist.
Is there any way to stop this?
I want all my 'purchased' songs in that playlist and then have all of my other music from CDs in their individual ones (which works fine).
This happens for about 5/6 every time and it's a nightmare trying to work out which ones are missing so to speak unless I stumble upon then.
So basically, the songs ARE on the phone but not showing in the playlist, just to make that clear.
    Many thanks in advance...

This sounds very similar to an issue that I experienced.  There was a phantom 6G assigned to movies even when no movies were on my iPad.  I could make the phantom 6G come and go by checking/unchecking the "Sync Movies" box in iTunes.
First, try a system reset.  It probably won't fix your problem but it's quick, easy and harmless...
Hold down the on/off switch and the Home button simultaneously until the screen blacks out or you see the Apple logo.  Ignore the "Slide to power off" text if it appears.  You will not lose any apps, data, music, movies, settings, etc.
If the Reset doesn't work, try a Restore.  Note that it's nowhere near as quick as a Reset.  From iTunes, select the iPad/iPod and then select the Summary tab.  Follow directions for Restore and be sure to say "yes" to the backup.  You will be warned that all data (apps, music, movies, etc.) will be erased but, as the Restore finishes, you will be asked if you wish the contents of the backup to be copied to the iPad/iPod.  Again, say "yes."
There is one other thing that you can try but I don't want to describe it unless the above doesn't help.

  • Audio on some songs not playing - iTunes Library hosted External Hard Drive

Since moving my music to an external hard drive connected to my Airport Extreme, audio on some tracks will not play. Seemingly at random, songs will just silently move through the track time. Visually it looks as if the tracks are playing, the iTunes timer-cursor moves through the track as if audio is playing. Instead of playing the audio I hear x:xx minutes of silence.  If I rewind the song to the begining audio will play as it should.  I wasn't having this issue when music was hosted locally. There's doesn't seem to be any rhyme or reason which tracks are play and which don't.
    Any assistance would be appreciated.

  • Some songs not transferring over to new computer

Some of my music will not transfer over to a new laptop. Some of the songs were purchased or downloaded 5 years ago when I had a different apple ID account and different laptop. All computers have been "authorized" (I have 4 out of 5 authorized) but whenever I sync, about 50 or so songs will not transfer over. I try syncing and transferring purchases but nothing works.
    Any ideas?

Make sure that you have "Show iTunes in the Cloud Purchases" enabled in your iTunes preferences by going to iTunes > Preferences in the Store tab and clicking OK.

  • Some songs not authorized

I am having an issue where a couple of songs that I purchased from Itunes will not sync with my iphone due to a warning telling me it is not authorized to play on this computer. I tried to deauthorize and reauthorize. I tried resyncing and restarting the program. The thing is I bought several songs all at the same time with the same settings on both my phone and itunes. Some synced fine while just a couple wouldn't. Any suggestions...

tried deauthorizing the computer for music store account, asked for my apple password as if i was buying a song, did it, did advanced-check for purchases-asked for password again- and then the songs still did not work. i noticed when it says the song is not authorized, it has an AOL screen name and ask for AOL password, don't have AOL though anymore. please help, only the first 45 purchased songs don't work. would appreciate any help, thanks
