Some text appears in cyrillic

I know this is an apple font conflict since it only occurs in Mail and TextEdit. If I receive an email, it looks fine. When I reply and then the original person replies, quoted text from SENDER appears in cyrillic. All my quoted emails appear fine. The reason I know this is an apple conflict: If I copy text from anywhere into textedit, it comes in as cyrillic or nonsense characters. I use Font Agent Pro to manage system fonts.
I tried deleting sys fonts and replacing them with OTF version of Times and Helvetica. But soon as I reboot, the original fonts are back.
Any advice?

some recipients (but not all) will see the forwarded email in Cyrillic
That could be an encoding problem or a bad font on their system. Not much you can do without being able to examine what they are seeing in detail.
Similarly, I've had the experience of cutting text from an email, then pasting into Word, and it shows up as Cyrillic.
Could be a bad font on your system. Could you send me a screen shot (tom at bluesky dot org)?
When you have Character Palette open, view=code tables, tab=unicode, 00000000 Basic Latin, click once on a letter like Q, so it is selected. Then go down past Character Info to Font Variation, make sure it says Collections: Containing selected character. Go through all the fonts and any one which does not have a Q is should be deactivated or trashed.

  • Some text appears bold when published.  Why?

    Hi.
I've used iWeb to create my very first web-site, but I have an annoying problem. On my links page, one particular block of text appears in bold when viewing on a browser. The text is not bolded, though, in iWeb.
    http://web.mac.com/stevenrichardjackson/iWeb/bloggermepink/links.html
Look at the links on the right hand side, under the subheading "Apple".
Does anyone have any idea what I can do to make this text appear the same as the rest if the text on that page.
    Thanks in advance,
    Steve.

Wow -- this is getting stranger and stranger...
I did what you suggested, namely duplicating the "Apple" links text box, deleting the "Films" and "Geekery" text boxes, repositioning the duplicated box into the desired place and re-typing the links. This sounded like a pretty good suggestion.
    However...
    Now have a look:
    http://web.mac.com/stevenrichardjackson/iWeb/bloggermepink/links.html
If you put your mouse over the "Geekery" links and move it around a bit, you'll see that the Xbox sites have a phantom space that appears and disappears depending on where the mouse is hovering...
The only explanation I can think of is that there is some kind of bug in iWeb's Publish function. Has this section of my web-site been published twice, and the second publish hasn't overwritten the first???
This might be way off mark, but what else could be causing this?
I have checked my file in iWeb, by the way, and there's no hidden text box or anything like that...
    Hope you have a suggestion.
    Cheers,
    Steve.

  • Captured text appears in Cyrillic?

I have a pdf file that displays in normal English, but when text is captured to the clipboard and re-pasted, that text shows in an odd font similar to Cyrillic. I have not noticed any obvious options for selecting a font, especially one that relates only to the clipboard.
I have never seen this before. Any ideas about what causes this and how to fix it?
(Currently using Reader 11.02, but this appears to be purely a function of the pdf file)

The "clipboard" Is purely an OS function, be it Windows or Mac. That's how you can cut or copy, and paste between applications from different sources and formats. There could be something in the OCR that was performed on the PDF that causes this. When I copy and paste into Word, I always choose to paste without formatting (text only) and then do my formatting (including font selection) afterward.

  • Some text appears to be one font in one computer, but a different font in another computer.

The navigation buttons in my .fla file are set to the font, Arial MT in Bold.  It displays no problem on my desktop computer.  However, when I view the website on my laptops, the font changes to what looks to be something like Times New Roman.
The same thing happens with my "Read More" button text.  It's also originally in Arial MT Bold.  On my desktop it appears fine but on my 2 laptops it appears to be in Times New Roman.  This is more of an issue because I have these buttons underlined.  When viewing in my laptops, these underlines appear to be too long.  If I shorten it, it'll probably appear to be too short when I view on my desktop.
How can I get the font to be one consistent font for all computers?
Note, this is the only font this is happening with - I have another unusual font, Miama, which many computers don't come with but it still displays on all my computers.

Thanks for your replies.  It worked.

  • Some text in Safari appears as fractions instead of readable text

On some web pages certain blocks of text appear as numerical fractions. When I go to the same web page in another browser, such as Camino, the text appears as it should. I have tried to change the font in Safari's preferences, but nothing seems to fix it. This seems to be a fairly recent problem happening on all our Macs and it seems to have started since we upgraded to OS X 10.4, or maybe even after one of the recent updates. Any help resolving this annoyance would be appreciated.

    Thanks All,
actually, these machines are all running Suitcase to manage fonts, so I eliminated Helvetica Fractions from any of the suitcases and it resolved the issue. It's curious the problem only showed up in Safari and not Camaro, but I've learned not to question things once they are working properly!!

  • When Using [OLE DB] driver some arabic text appear with cutting last character

    hi
i have a problem in crystal report when bilding report using using [OLE DB] driver some arabic text appear with cutting the last one or tow characters
note: i'm using VBasic 6.0 , RDC and crystal report viewer

I thought I'd post an update to this since I've narrowed down the problem.
It turns out this is NOT a bug in Apple's Java implementation, but in the AAT rendering engine. In any application, if a user changes the style of part of an Arabic string, it breaks the font connection. I have been informed though that this has already been fixed, and should be functional when Leopard is released. ALL applications that use AAT suffer from this problem, not just Java.

  • I did a COPY of some text from a web page, and then did a PASTE into notepad.exe (Windows). The text from each line was duplicated -- on the line! Instead of "Fred", it became "Fred Fred".

I just recently installed Firefox for the first time. It seems nice and quick. The version is reported as: "10.0.1".
I wanted to save some text from a web page, so navigated to that page, selected the text, and pressed the Control-C combination to COPY the selected text to the buffer. For example, the text I selected looked something like this:
    Harry
    Ron
    Hermione
    Hagrid
    Albus
NOTE: Each line of text has a small icon to the left of the text.
It is not reasonable to COPY and PASTE each line individually, as there can be hundreds of lines of data. I recall, however, that
doing a COPY and PASTE on this data into Microsoft's Excel will produce cells which have the icons included in the cell, but unfortunately one cannot can't get rid of them! At least I've never found a way to remove them, but that's another issue. :)
Once I'd done the COPY operation I switched to a Notepad window and did a PASTE operation. To my surprise, the text from each line was duplicated. It looked like this:
    Harry Harry
    Ron Ron
    Hermione Hermione
    Hagrid Hagrid
    Albus Albus
Thinking that there might be something unusual about the web page I looked at the source, but it appeared "normal" -- that is, as expected.
Note: I have done this operation several times before, and have never seen this occur before.
Note: In the actual data some of the lines have quoted text in them. Curiously there is weird behavior on these lines. In some cases the entire line is shown only once. (These occur at the top of the line, and the quoted text is at the beginning of the name.)
When quoted text appears "later" in the name, in some cases the quoted text is duplicated, and in other cases the quoted text is missing altogether! I have also noticed an error with the quoted text, and so will be reporting that to the web site which generates the HTML.
Note that each line of "text" is "anchor text", so if I click on a name the browser navigates to a page for that name.
I believe that the problem is that the COPY operating in Firefox is not simply copying the visible text, but also the ALT=
Below is a sample of what the source HTML looks like:
    <a class="lnk" target="_blank" href="http://details.aspx?id=Harry">
    <img width="16" height="16" alt="Harry" class="tb_icon" src="http://.../Harry.gif"/>
    <span>Harry</span></a>
    <br/>
(Because of the true length of the lines in the source HTML, I have stripped out the actual URL of the site.)
To make sure I wasn't imaging this difference I repeated the process within Internet Explorer. In that browser I did not get duplicated data.

    Try:
*Extended Copy Menu (fix version): https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/extended-copy-menu-fix-vers/

  • Why does some text convert to outlines when opening a PDF in AI?

I often have to open PDFs saved from InDesign CS5 in Illustrator CS5 (Mac). These PDFS are saved from InDesign using Press or PDFX1-a settings.
When I open them in AI, I get the warning that "to preserve appearance, some text has been outlined".
Of course, I do not want this to happen.
The text that gets outlined is nothing special. It is seemingly at random within a paragraph or within a cell of a table. In the screen shot below, live text has the blue underline; outlined text does not.
I can see no rationale for it. There is no transparency involved. Just black text on no background. There is no special "appearance" that needs to be preserved. Fonts are all Adobe OTF (Myriad Pro shown below).
Can anyone explain why this happens?

PDFs are not supposed to be edited as a rule.
Lots of odd things can happen to text (but also other objects) when you open a PDF - that is not a pdf with the editable Illustrator file saved within it - and try to edit it.
Illustrator is not a general purpose editor of pdf files.
PDF files are supposed to be an end-format, not a format that you edit.
What happens to text in a pdf when opened in Illustrator is perfectly normal. There isn't really much you can do about it except recreate the text in Illustrator from scratch, with the desired font, and re-export to the pdf-version you need.

  • Text appearing as white on white on a webpage?

A friend of mine created this website http://www.confinementmovie.com/ but for me in Safari (and Firefox) most of the text appears as white on a white background (i.e. it can't be read unless highlighted with a mouse). He said this isn't true for other people he's shown it to. Is this a problem of some settings on my computer/browsers, or a problem in the html of his site?

Thanks for checking! From further information I have received elsewhere, evidently the site was created in Microsoft Word and only displays properly in Internet Explorer.

  • Text appearance in adobe acrobat (pro) files displays inconsistently unless you zoom in. Mainly 'i's and 'l's look bigger than they should.

Text appearance in adobe acrobat (pro) files displays inconsistently unless you zoom in. Mainly 'i's and 'l's look bigger than they should.
    The pdfs print fine though.

Try doing a spotlight search for all files that start with AdobeFnt. They will be named AdobefntXX.lst, with the XX being some number. They will be scattered across the drive... After making sure that all Adobe applications are closed, trash all the adobefntxx.lst files, those with the 3 letter extension .lst.
Then, restart the system, and open the files in Acrobat again.
Otherwise, what happens in Safe boot? (Remember, Safe boot loads only a default set of fonts.) If they display fine there, the problem most likely is a font issue, one of the fonts that Adobe installed.
Check Adobe's web support page for troubleshooting Fonts.

Contact Adobe about the whole issue, it is after all, Adobe Acrobat... Adobe's contact number is 800 833 6687.

  • Some text goes missing in the PDF output after I convert FM8 book

    Hi,
I am using Framemaker 8.0, Acrobat 8.0 Professional, Acrobat Distiller 8.0.
When I convert my Framemaker books to PDFs, some text (especially Table Heading tags) go missing in the PDF output. I have tried to change the font colour, change the cell shading, and many other options. But, the problem persists.
I saw some similar links on the forums with this kind of problems. For example,
    http://support.microsoft.com/?id=952909
    http://forums.adobe.com/message/3285145
    http://forums.adobe.com/message/4167112
    http://helpx.adobe.com/framemaker/kb/troubleshoot-pdf-creation-problems-framemaker.html
After going through these links from the forums, I realized that this is a known issue. But, the above links direct me to Microsoft patches and these patches are available only for Windows XP, Windows 2003 Server, and Windwos Vista operating systems. My operating system is Windows 7 Professional, 32-bit version.
One more thing I want to say is we have never faced this problem earlier. It started appearing now.
While I know that the world (many of us) moved on to Framemaker 9 and 10, I also know that there is someone out there to help me to overcome this issue.
    Thanks and regards,
    Raghavacharyulu NCB

    Hi Harpreet,
    Thanks for your response.
We tried this option also. In fact, the Distiller shows this option by default. Secondly, we have recently updated our old template to reflect the new corporate styles and we suspect something went wrong there. We once again took the old template and updated with the new colour definitions and fonts, this time very carefully and it started working. Now, the text is not missing.
So, the result is something is wrong with our template. Quite surprising is it is inconsistent and some places the text appears and some places it does not.
Where do you work? Are you in India?

  • Text appears in the FIND bar rather than website fields. How can I fix this?

When I type text into a search box in a website such as Google, ebay or Amazon, the text does not appear in the field; instead the firefox FIND bar automatically pops up and the text appears in it instead. How can I prevent this from happening?

Usually if you click in the field, Firefox will interpret the typing correctly.
Could you check to see whether you have this feature turned and, if you do, turn it off:
orange Firefox button (or Tools menu) > Options > Advanced > General mini-tab > "Search for text when I start typing"
If that was on and you turn it off, does that fix the problem?
If not, could you try the same pages in Firefox's Safe Mode? That's a standard diagnostic tool to bypass interference by extensions (and some custom settings). More info: [[Troubleshoot Firefox issues using Safe Mode]].
You can restart Firefox in Safe Mode using
Help > Restart with Add-ons Disabled
In the dialog, click "Start in Safe Mode" (''not'' Reset)
    Any difference?

  • Some Text Messages do not display when using large font on iphone

    Hi Peter
Actually, Captivate does have an essentially unlimited number
of undo levels. But that number may appear to be different. The
number of levels starts when you begin editing the project. If you
close and re-open a project, that starts the undo process over.
I've tested and I gave up after about 280 or so undos.
Where Captivate doesn't allow an undo, it normally warns you
with a rather catastrophic looking dialog.
    Cheers... Rick

  • Safari 4.0.5 Text Appears as an A inside a Square

Just got my new Macbook Pro. However I am observing some strange behavior on some websites. Some of the text appears as an "A" inside a square. i've noticed this at Ebay and at SFGate.com. Any ideas?

Could something has been brought over that is causing the issue?
Yes! Definitely. I was just getting ready to ask if you had used the MA.
From the Safari Menu click File/Export Bookmarks. Save that file to an external source.
Now go to ~/Library/Safari and move the Bookmarks.plist / History.plist / LastSession.plist files to the Trash.
Then go to ~/Library/Caches/com.apple.Safari and move the "Cache.db" file to the Trash.
Restart your Mac, launch Safari and try SFGate.com
If nothing helped, repair disk permissions. Launch Disk Utility. (Applications/Utilities) Select MacintoshHD in the panel on the left, select the FirstAid tab. Click: Repair Disk Permissions. When it's finished from the Menu Bar, Quit Disk Utility and restart your Mac. If you see a long list of "messages" in the permissions window, it's ok. That can be ignored. As long as you see, "Permissions Repair Complete" when it's finished... you're done. Quit Disk Utility and restart your Mac.
If that didn't help, install the v10.6.3 Combo Update It's ok to do this even if you are already running v10.6.3

  • Some text on websites doesn't display properly

Some text doesn't appear correct in Firefox (but does in IE). The text appears to get jumbled or scrambled but if I cut and paste the text from Firefox to a text file, the text is normal so it must be something in the display setting. The link below is a screenshot of Firefox.
Any ideas what is causing this?

This issue can be caused by an old bitmap version of the Helvetica or Geneva font or (bitmap) fonts that Firefox can't display in that size.<br />
Firefox can't display some old bitmap fonts in a larger size and displays gibberish instead.<br />
You can test that by zooming out (View > Zoom > Zoom Out, Ctrl -) to make the text smaller.<br />
    <br />
Uninstall (remove) all variants of that not working font to make Firefox use another font or see if you can find a True type version that doesn't show the problem.<br />
There have also been fonts with a Chinese name reported that identify themselves as Helvetica, so check that as well.<br />
