Some things I'd like to see

I don't know if these have already been addressed or if there is some setting that I've overlooked but I'll list them anyway. Here are some things I'd like to see different in Safari:
1. "Save As..." or "Run". Not all files should go into one folder. Sometimes videos should go in its own folder, programs in another, as should pictures, etc. Also some programs have a file that needs to get ran in order for something else to get started. So there should be an option.
2. View video or pictures in the web browser. Sometimes people will post a link to a video or picture and instead of viewing them in the browser, Safari tries and downloads it. Now I have to open the folder, clear the download manager's entry of the file, view the file, delete the file, and then empty my recycle bin. What a hassle! I'm sure Safari can give some native support to Mov or M4V files at least.
3. Better website compatability. Even major sites like Chase for banking won't show up correctly because it didn't have Safari in mind but it shows up fine for IE or Firefox. I'd like to see some better code for that.
4. Ability to sort bookmarks by name. I have imported all my bookmarks from IE just fine. But if I want to reorganize my folder by dragging the folder and moving it between folders, it won't let me. Instead, it opens up the folder like I want to add it between them. I'd like to see some better interfolder organzing with drag and drop or a "sort by name" option.
5. This probably isn't a big one, but on some forums that have drop-down menus for searching (like forums), it just links down to a search box somewhere else on the page instead of providing the drop-down box.
I love many of the other features that Safari offers but there are a few quirks that need to be addressed, IMO.

Would it detect based on filetype, like .VIDEO?

I haven't experienced this. I prefer my movies to open in my movie player, so I can full-screen it and keep surfing. Pictures open in the browser for me, but I'm not right-clicking or anything special.

Some websites require extra code to get the site to look like they wanted. This goes for ALL browsers. The web developers did not take Safari into mind, so they didn't program for strict CSS rules, or other things. However, as far as I can tell most sites work fine, they just "look" different. (Fonts look better imo.)

Try Bookmarks -> Show All Bookmarks

Is that the website? Some websites default to simple controls if Safari doesn't work with the preferred control.
I love many of the other features that Safari offers but there are a few quirks that need to be addressed, IMO.

The color pallete of the flash could be a little more integrated with the tools menu. Also, i would like to see alpha transparency options, on shapes. In fact you could make a new menu for the shapes and bitmaps.

Some features I would like to see on Digital Editions

Hey All!
I just wanted to pitch in my two cents. I think Digital Editions is quite nice yet I believe there are a couple of things missing. The GUI could get a little "pimping" so it looks a little more like iBook with the shelves and such, just from an aesthetic point of view. Maybe linking it with a simple, good looking, FAST flash app might work. Also, we should be able to modify the books margins. Many of the books from the Gutenberg Project don't come with margins. Also it would be nice to have a full screen view and perhaps a change of the white background to the more matte beige for less eye strain.
I hope I find some people to echo these proposals so that adobe can incorporate them in future updates.

Encore...things I'd like to see tweaked

Why do we like Encore? Primarily:
Does Bu-ray
It’s an Adobe product (which we trust and usually intuitively understand)
It works well with other Adobe products
It’s menus are cleaner and far easier to alter & customize than DVDsp.
But..
It disobeys several of the Adobe expected/intuitive operating principles found in other Adobe software:
doesn’t properly sort assets alphabetically ---and the way it sorts assets in the Project window is different from the Menu window
doesn’t automatically sort menu assets..you have to refresh the sort by clicking, for example, the name column twice
doesn’t allow to you to alter the name of an item by clicking, double-clicking or striking the return key while it’s selected in a list — it must be altered in the Properties palette onl —which isn’t intuitive or flexible
doesn’t allow you to create a menu by right clicking on an asset and choosing "new menu"--- which it should then create using that asset
I could be wrong but asking it to replace or locate an asset doesn’t usually work for me if it’s missing the asset..you have to “revert to original” before replacing or locating it...not intuitive
duplicating a menu asset creates a new menu which it throws in a different part and illogical part of the list
closing timlines leaves behind multiple empty timeline tabs rather than closing the tab itself in favour of another “full” tab; Command-W does not close them—rather you have to click the tiny “x” to close each one.Annoying.
it’s progress bars aren’t indicative of what is going on...for example: it may be copying media from one folder to a new one while saving a copy of of project but to you it looks like it has hung up
it doesn’t process/transcode items in a logical order ..making it harder to determine when the transcoding will be done
it’s not intuitive to “revert to original” a clip before re-transcoding it..you should be able to transcode it again if you wish at any time
When custo,izing a transcode setting and saving it...it should make that new setting the selected one of choice when you exit the window...you can easily assume, incorrectly, it has done so for you.
it’s not intuitive to forbid you to transcode something before using it as an asset —you should be able to at least override that after a warning or by un-checking a preference selection
it doesn’t automatically re-adjust a duration of a menu item if you replace it’s assets with one of a different duration (or at least warn you that the duration has changed) -- the only way to have the menu item readjust its duration is to pick-whip a totally different item and then pick-whip the correct one...take loads of extra time and could create a lot of mistakes
it should allow you to group items into folders & subfolders in the menus palette
doesn’t permit you to have motion menus larger than 1 gig...we use DVDs for show reels which allow us to use quicktime movies to act as a kind of fully-customizable Powerpoint or Keynote format (clicking enter advances to the next menu/movie --works pretty well!) and the 1-Gig-max rule is a huge drawback
doesn’t offer an infinite hold at the end of a menu or timeline item
And the error you receive when you open a project and it tells you it’s can’t open it because it has been created in a Windows program WHEN IT WASN’T is rather unforgiveable. That should have been corrected long ago and it keeps happening for no logical reason or without any apparent avoidable process
Disclaimer: if I'm wrong about anything & everything here..I'm thrilled to find out why and how to fix it.
All the above said..Adobe is my favourite company in the world.. they created "the standard" for good program design which is why I get frustrated when I see weird things in one app that don't exist at all in any of their others

The Project panel contains all the assets in the project: menus, timelines, slideshows, playlists, video/audio/still assets, etc.. You can sort by Name (alphabetically) and also by other properties of the assets such as Type, Duration, DVD Transcode Status, etc. by clicking the column headers to sort by the selected property. The Menus panel contains only menus, but you can also sort by Name, End Action, Aspect Ratio, etc.
Default behavior in the Project panel is to sort new objects in alphabetical order- if Name is the chosen sort method.

Not the only way. You can also right-click an asset and choose Rename, or choose Edit > Rename. But as you noted, Encore doesn't have inline editing for asset names.

That might be a nice enhancement request, but there are limitations: a motion menu can have only a single video and audio track. What happens if multiples of each is selected and you choose "New Menu"? The current method (opt-drag video into the menu, or drag audio in the menu) replaces any previously selected assets. Encore also has default menus and buttons in the Library, which are user-settable that are used when you choose "New Menu" or "New Button". Would those be ignored when you choose "New Menu/Button" with an asset selected?
There are solutions to all of those problem, but they don't add much value to the user once the user understands how to create motion menus in Encore. And the current implementation hasn't prevented very many from creating motion menus.
Personally, I don't see a tremendous amount of value in adding this functionality, but I'm just a fellow user.

You must mean in the Flowchart, right? There are two parts to the flowchart - the hierarchy of the disc (from First Play, to menus to buttons linked to timelines, etc.) and the orphanage, where unlinked assets go. If you duplicate a linked menu, where would you expect it to go? Since it's a new menu that's not linked to the disc hierarchy, it should go in the orphanage, yes? And then it can be linked.

Cmd-W works for me, as long as the timeline in the Timeline editor has focus. But it only closes the timeline, not the panel. There's a reason for this, though - if your settings are right, a single panel can hold multiple timelines, just as a single Menu editor panel can hold multiple menus. These are configurable in preferences. If you set your Timeline editor to a single panel containing multiple timelines, then Cmd-W closes the timelines without leaving the empty panel.

This blanket statement isn't universally true of all progress bars in Encore. Most times, progress bars are indicative of exactly what's going on.

Have you looked at the Progress panel? You can see the order there. Personally, I don't do any transcoding at build time, so I don't care what order it's in but if you do, that's the place to check it. You can stop transcoding here as well.

Things I would like to see in the next n95 8gb upd...

1) Saved camera settings (Really..how hard is that?)
2) Fixed video camera stutter (Didn't see it on the list of updates)
3) When texting groups whose members have more than 1 number, it would be nice if I could set a default instead of having to choose every time I do a group text.
4) ASR that can rotate to the right too
5) Nokia maps always tells me to turn in the wrong direction on the last turn
6) You know how by default, you can make it so your contacts displays "First Name" then "Last Name"? Is there a way to make it display it like that for the rest of the phone (texting, etc)? If not, then I want it fixed =)

My first Nokia phone and I love it, but why does it feel like I paid $640 to be a beta tester? There are so many features that should have been included with the release of the phone

Three things I would like to see in Flash Catalyst.

1. I would REALLY like a way to edit the code in Flash Catalyst. If Adobe doesn't figure this one out, they will lose a lot of business. I'm not going to buy an other product like Flex just so I can edit the code. I'm sure I'm not the only one, but once in a while, designers need to edit some code.
2. It would be nice if I could just double click groups or layers to edit them (like in Flash an illustrator). Currently, it is very painful having to dig through groups and layers just to edit an object. This is a real time waster and it can add several hours on to a small project.
3. Effects. I know you can add drop shadows and glows to objects in Photoshop and Illustrator, but is the a way to do these in Catalyst? That would be nice to have.

1. Code editing
We certainly recognize the value of editing code in Catalyst and recognize that designers as well as developers want to edit their code. Being about to robustly round trip code in Catalyst is a feature that we plan to address in a later version of Catalyst.
2. Editing in place/isolation mode on groups
I agree that this is a real time saver by making selections and editing much faster. For now, a work-around that may work for some artwork is to convert it to a custom component so that it can be edited in isolation. I recognize this is a trade off. If you convert artwork to a component then you can edit in place, but you won't be able to use the white arrow selection tool to "reach" into the component when you are not editing in place
3. Applying effects to artwork in Catalyst
Coming in the next beta release :-)

Excellent question! If our comments are in the wrong location, please provide a link to Apple's preferred location.
If Apple does not care about our needs, please say so. Although Aperture is currently IMO our best choice in the DSLR image management space, it certainly is not our only choice.
In any event, please provide an answer to the OP question "I cannot find the thread in the forum anymore, has it been deleted?"

Now I also know about pulling the message to the left to see the time stamp. Good to know, although I preferred it being right where I could see it without having to do a swipe or keystroke.

Things we like to see in iOS 8

Some of Additional things that we love to see in iOS 8 :
Many things can be better in iOS 8. You can add an accessibility in iOS 8
Which users can multi task by pulling the screen up. Actually like iPad. It's really easier and better.
MAKE A USEFUL PROGRAM TO MANAGE EVERYTHING:
It's really bad that users of iPhone need to use many programs to manage files in their phones. iTunes for musics and videos , a photo manager for adding photos and so on.
Actually it's not really related to iOS 8 but, by making iOS 8 you can make iTunes better too or make another program.
It's ridicules that users cannot choose their favorite song for their ringtone.
Why users should download only from iTunes or AppStore? Why they should use apps like downloads to download a file from a website??? Why iPhone doesn't have a download manager itself? You can make a download manager for iPhone which is safe ( against viruses ) and fast. It will be really better.
At last, thank you for the great phone. Everybody knows that from hardware aspect iPhone is the best but software; unfortunately no.

Master-Detail Form - implementing some thing like Post-Query trigger

Hi all,
I am struggling to implement an eqivalent of a post-query trigger in Oracle Forms. Please bear with me as I am trying to explain in detail what the problem is.
Here is my situation.
I have three tables EMP, DEPT and LOCATION. I created a Master/Table pages on EMP and DEPT.
Basic relationships.
Each LOCATION has one or more DEPTs; Each DEPT is at one and only one LOCATION.
Each DEPT has one ore more EMPs; Each EMP is assigned to only and only DEPT.
Not getting too complicated, here are the table layouts:
LOCATION:
ID number(10,0) not null,
NAME varchar2(20) not null
DEPT
ID number(10,0) not null,
NAME varchar2(20) not null,
LOC_ID number (10,0) not null foreign key from LOCATION
EMP
ID number(10,0) not null,
NAME varchar2(20) not null,
DEPT_ID number (10,0) not null foreign key from DEPT
Assume I have all the constraints, BIU triggers, sequences defined properly.
I am using the APEX page wizard to create a Master/Detail Form on DEPT and EMP. The first page is the Master Report on DEPT. I want to display the Location Name on this page also. Because the Master Report allows
you to change the query, I was able to add the Location Name as part of the
query. This was very simple.
Select a.name "Department_Name",
b.name "Location"
from dept a, location b
where a.loc_id = b.id
Moving on, In the Master Detail Form, I would like to get the Location Name as part of the first Region (Dept Region).
In this region, I would like to include the Location Name also. So my first region on the Master Detail form includes:
Dept Id: ________
Dept Name: _______
Location Name: __________
As Region are automatically populated using using a Fetch Row from EMP table (Automated Row Fetch) on an After Header process point, I don't have a way of including the Location as part of query. So I created a Region level Item called Location Name, made it Display only.
In the old SQL*Forms, or Oracle Forms days, I used to use a Post-Query trigger, or Post-Change trigger to fire on the Loc_Id column to populate the Location Name. Simple fetch like:
Select name
into :P80_location_name
from location
where loc_id = :P80_loc_id
However, I am struggling to implement some thing simple like this in APEX. Tried creating a processes, computatations etc, but nothing is working.
I have seen some previous responses to fetching values from a foreign table
using a button or AJAX script, but this should be very basic. What am I
missing here?

Hi John,
I'm not too familiar with the post-query triggers in Oracle Forms, but the use of a List of Values (LOV) on your LOCATION table might do the trick for you. If you create a dynamic LOV based on your LOCATIONS table, it can then be referenced by the LOC_ID item on the Master-Detail page, to display the Location Name. You could try doing the following:
1. Create a new dynamic LOV, LOCATIONS, using a query similar to the following:
select Name d, ID r
from LOCATION
order by 1
2. Edit the "Create" button on the Master report page, and in the "Optional URL Redirect" section set "Request" to CREATE. Click Apply Changes, to save the setting.
3. Edit the LOC_ID item on your Master-Detail page, and set the following:
* in the "Name" region change the "Display As" setting to Select List
* in the "Label" region change the Label to Location Name.
* in the "List of Values" region set the "Named LOV" to LOCATIONS
* in the "Read Only" section, set the condition to Request != Expression 1, and set Expression 1 to CREATE.
Click Apply Changes to save the settings.
When you run the pages now, the Location Name field will appear as Read-Only when editing a selected Master row. The item will appear as a Select List when the user clicks "Create" on the Master page, to create a new Master row.

In order to Use the Function Module 'AUTHORITY_CHECK_DATASET' , you need to Pass the Exporting Parameter ACTIVITY with a value like given below.
ACTIVITY
Access type, with the following possible values:
- READ: Read file
- WRITE: Change file
- READ_WITH_FILTER: Read file using filter functions
- WRITE_WITH_FILTER: Change file using filter functions
- DELETE: Delete file
These values are defined as constants and one such constant is SABC_ACT_READ with a type char and length 4 with a Value of 'READ' .
The constant is being used in that Function module to check the READ Authorization of the user for the file specified.

Okay so I asked someone from apple and they said that the software update icon is gone but its functions have been merged with the app store icon on the settings menu. Crisis averted haha!

Why is my Menu Bar partially transparent? I can see my desktop instead of some of the icons like Print or Download.

The Menu Bar at top of the screen does not look right after the
Help entry. File thru Help is fine and have a white background.
After that I can see my screen background with icons for Print,
Downloads, and others superimposed. Some of the icons can
hardly be seen as they blend right in with my Wallpaper.
Furthermore the line above the Menu Bar has it's own problems:
It has the Firefox logo followed by some writing that go for
for about 6 inches followed by stuff from my wallpaper.
In other words, starting from the top of the screen I have
two short lines of stuff with a white background followed by
a see through view of stuff from my screen wallpaper.
Starting with the Navigation Toolbar everything is fine.
I don't have this problem with IE8. Can anyone shed some
light on this problem.

I don't want to change all my computer's visuals just because firefox has a bug in it! The Menu bar is rendered faintly and this is a bad idea. At least give me the choice . . . see image below. I have vista running ffox 4 and none of the fancy settings can fix this. Also I want transparency on! Most programs work properly. They don't force me to adhere to some idiot programers whims, likes or dislikes.
Of course ranting this way will get me nowhere . . . such is life.
