Some titles truncated in month view

Hi everyone, I always view iCal in month view, and I realise that when I have a few things on one day, it makes sense to truncate the event titles to one line. However, when there is only one or two events on a day, it sometimes shows me the whole event title, however, sometimes it truncates it to one line, even if there is nothing else on that day. It seems to be completely inconsistent in how it decides which to truncate and which ones not - is there something I'm missing here?
I would post a screen shot, but I don't think I can do attachments in this forum.
Cheers
Jared

I wish I knew the answer too, it's one of those things that drives me nuts about iCal.

  • Why does iCAL say EDT next to some event times in month view?

In my month view, the light gray time to the right of the event show many different time forms - 7 AM, 8 AM EDT, and 7 PM EST.
There is no difference that I can find in how the event has been set up that would indicate the different time formats.  These events existed prior to me upgrading to Maveriks.
    Thank you!

Yes, it changes November 2, but it is the inconsistency that bothers me - some as EST, some as EDT, and some un-marked.
I would prefer all as unmarked.

  • ICal hiding events in "Month" view

Hello. My iCal hides some events in the "Month" view, but shows them in the "Day" and in the "Week" view (it is actually hiding the events from the week of October 16th to October 22nd of 2011) What can i do?
    Thanks!

    Peggy,
Also try refreshing the iCal plist file.
The com.apple.iCal.plist file is in your Macintosh HD/Users/yourusername/Library/Preferences Folder. If you are using Lion to get to the Library folder use Finder>Go>Depress the "Option" Key and select LIbrary. Quit iCal, drag the .plist file to your Desktop. Then log out/in or restart.

  • ICal month view some events shown only as ..., they show correctly in other views.

iCal month view some events shown only as ..., they show correctly in other views.

This is so utterly annoying- I never had this issue with previous versions of iCal, and I can't even run those versions on tiger now that I've upgraded. The tiger upgrade in general has disrupted my workflow much more than I thought it would-
Because of the way I use iCal, not seeing the full even title in month mode makes iCal pretty much useless to me. I don't want to have to click between dozens of events that begin with "Renders of" to find which set of renderings are due on which days. Nor do I want to go through and rename all of my "Renders of Levels 1a-3c" etc to make the titles more useful. It should just WORK.
Well, let me know if anyone finds a better way of making this work other than "resizing ad lib until things sorta show up"

  • ICal cuts off text of some events in month view

I've noticed that iCal cuts off the text of some events, while displaying the full text of longer events in the month view. For example, if I create an event titled "Test Event" only "Test" shows up in the day it's created, but if I enter "Longer Event" the entire text shows up, on two lines. These events are on separate days with no other events on those days, so there's nothing to get in their way. Why is this?

  • ICal month view won't show some of my appointments.

    Hello guys!
I've updated do Lion and bought an iPod touch 4g.
Everything is working fine, except for the month view on my Mac Book Pro, some of my appointments won't show up for me. The appear on Day view and Week view.
    Any ideas?

Yes! I created a project from a trailer. I finalized then went and changed some things. After finalizing again the small preview shows the full trailer but the preview and all exported movies are blank for the first 10 seconds or so.  Frustrating!

  • Calendar apps:  1. That my wife and I can share.  2. That shows some of the text in the full month view.  3.  That can have "public" events and "private" events.

    Hello All,
I am looking for a calendar app that my wife and I can share on both of our iphones.  I am new to this and haven't found an app that will do what I want.
    1. I want the full month view to show some of the text of each event:  Like Pocket Informant and Monthly Calendar Mocha do (not just a dot).
    2. That both of us can post and see each other's events.
    3. That each of us can post "private" events that the other person won't see on their phone.  Things like, "Wife's surprise party."
    4. That sync's both calendars automatically.
I know a lot of people use Fantastical, but I don't think that would give me the text in the full month view.
Is there an app that can do all of the above?
    Thanks in advance.
    Rick

Sharing and syncing is a feature of the calendar database; you can have multiple calendars, and each can be private, shared with specific other iCloud users, or public. If you have a Mac you can set that up in the Calendar app; for either Mac or Windows you can set it up by logging in to iCloud.com using your Apple ID.
The other calendar apps all use the Apple calendar database; they just have different ways of presenting the content, and can also take advantage of "hidden" features of the Apple calendar database (such as adding icons to entries).

  • Making An Event Two Lines Long In Month View

    Hey Everyone,
I only use iCal in month view and most of the time when I enter an event that has a long name it shows up as two lines, so I am able to read it all. However, sometimes it only goes for a single line and cuts off the end of the event title. How do I change this to show two lines?
    Thanks!!

I have the same question. One workaround is to copy an existing two-line event to the day that you want to create a new event. Then edit that to change it to the event name you want. This seems to work even though just typing a new name truncates it to one line.
I hope someone can provide a more elegant solution.

  • How display two-line descriptions in month view

In the iCal version in Snow Leopard, it was possible to display a two-line description of an event in month view. Is there a way to do that in the version included with OS 10.9 and 10.10? The descriptions now are so truncated it can be hard to understand what they refer to. Also, the text of the descriptions in month view no longer is in the color of the calendar they are assigned to (except for all-day events). Instead, the descriptions are marked with tiny dots. This makes it much more difficult to distinguish between event types. Apple seems to be changing its apps for some misguided sense of aesthetics instead of emphasizing utility.

  • Entry Details in Month View

Sometimes iCal will display the entire detail of an entry in Month view and other times it will truncate it. There seems to be no logical reason for this and it happens arbitrarily. Does anyone know how I can arrange it for the iCal monthly entries to appear in full? Thanks.

    Hello Matt...
What the sales force can do is enter the city name as the first piece of information in the "Remarks" field on the Activity (if it is a meeting) and onwards they go.  This standard can also help with some reporting using some SQL and such...
I asked this exact same question one time and received the answer there was no way to change the information on the calendar, but that was some time ago...
    Take care - Zal

  • Multiple probs -- can't view To Dos, Month view crashes

Using lateest v of iCal 2. Sev'l problems: If I try to open the To Dos frame, the frame space opens but just shows the right-hand side of the weekly calendar. If i try to view Month View, the entire calendar window goes glitchy with horizontal lines and the program gets glitchier still. It still works -- ccan still move among different view -- but each time there's more screen noise, on the iCal window only, and some of the buttons along window bottom disappear. I recently reloaded iCal, and have sevearl times quit, deleted all 4 ical-related prefs from my user/library/preferences folder, and logged out and back in.
any ideas or suggestions? Much obliged for any help.

    Hi David,
With iCal closed, go to your user's Library>Application Support>iCal>Sources. In here are several folders with long names which each contain corestorage.ics, Info.plist and possibly some other files.
Open Info.plist in each of these folders (if you have Developer Tools installed it will open with the Property List Editor otherwise any text editor will do.) until you fiind the one whose title key is the name of the corrupted calendar. (These files are XML files if this means anything to you.) With a normal text editor you will be looking for something like this:
    <key>Title</key>
    <string>Your Calendar Name</string>
When you have found the correct folder, copy it's corestorage.ics file to the desktop - you'll need this to restore your data. After this delete the calendar's folder.
If you now open iCal the calendar that was corrupted will have gone from the calendar list. Drag the corestorage.ics file to below the last item on the calendar list. A dialog should open asking for a destination calendar. Choose New Calendar and click OK and then rename the calendar to what you like.
    I hope this helps.

  • No TITLEs displayed in Detail view in Windows Explorer

The following pertains to Windows 7 Professional 64-bit vs. Windows XP Professional 32-bit.
In Windows Explorer, when viewing the file list in 'detail' view, you can also add the 'title' attribute for display by right-clicking the attribute bar above the file list.  However, in Windows 7, no titles are displayed for PDF files that have this
information which were displayed under WinXP.  Also, if the file properties are displayed, the PDF tab is gone.
I cannot find any info on how to re-enable this feature.  If XP-style PDF title attributes have been removed or disabled in Windows 7 Explorer, it is a MAJOR omission for our corporation.  We have a massive collection of corporate
and 3rd party PDF documents where interdocument links will not work if the filename is changed.  The TITLE attribute in detail view is used to display the document title, not the filename.  If any other view is used, e.g. icon view, the bubble
popup displays the title in WinXP, but this again doesn't work in Win7.  Without the title attribute working as it does in XP, we may have to forego moving from XP to Windows 7 on our desktops (we're skipping Vista, of course), and find an alternate
desktop OS (Linux?) that still supports this feature.
For example, every IBM software/hardware PDF manual has a cryptic filename which does not reflect anything about the title of the manual.  These filenames support inter-manual links, so renaming the PDF manuals to reflect the title is absolutely
not an option.  However, the PDF attributes of the file do contain the title, and these were visible under both Properties (the PDF tab), and the TITLE column in Detail view under WinXP.  However, both of these features are gone in Windows 7,
and to say it's a PITA is a gross understatement.
We want (need) this feature back in Windows 7.  I'd call it a show-stopper in moving to Windows 7 if this isn't fixed, and soon!
Btw, Microsoft, we have over 45,000 desktops currently running WinXP, plus 100's of Win2003/Win2008 servers in our corp.  Are you listening?

Here's what seems to be going on.
As part of the Adobe Reader download, Adobe provides a shell extension called pdfshell.dll.  On 32-bit Windows XP, you'll find it in the C:\Program Files\Common Files\Adobe\Acrobat\ActiveX folder.  On 64-bit Windows 7, you'll find it in the C:\Program
Files (x86)\Common Files\Adobe\Acrobat\ActiveX folder.  But, on either system, it's a 32-bit shell extension.  On 64-bit Windows 7, Windows Explorer will only run as a 64-bit program.  According to numerous web forum posters, this was a change
between the last "beta" and the "RC" version of 64-bit Windows 7.  There is a 32-bit version of Windows Explorer in the C:\Windows\SysWOW64 folder, but if you try to run it you get another instance of 64-bit Explorer.  The (first)
problem is that 64-bit Windows Explorer won't load a 32-bit shell extension.
You can see the 32-bit pdfshell.dll "working" on 64-bit Windows 7 in the File Open dialog of any 32-bit application (such as Adobe Reader).  To see this, first open an Explorer window and navigate to a folder that has some PDF files like your
IBM manual.  Right click on the file and choose Properties.  Look at the tabs in the dialog and note that there is no PDF tab.  Now, OK out of the Properties dialog and double-click on the same file to open it in Adobe Reader.  Now press
Ctrl-O or choose File Open to get the File Open dialog.  Navigate to the same folder, right click on the same file and choose Properties.  Look at the tabs and see that you now have the PDF tab that was missing in Explorer.  In that tab, you
can see the Title that pdfshell.dll has pulled from the file.  This works because 32-bit Adobe Reader has loaded a 32-bit common file dialog which *will* load a 32-bit shell extension.
But you're not out of the woods yet.  The common file dialog has many of the features of Explorer, and you can select Details view and right-click on the column headers to choose to show a Title column.  This will show Titles for several document
types, but not for PDF files.  This isn't a 64-bit versus 32-bit issues, it's a Windows XP versus Vista and later issue.  What Adobe implemented in pdfshell.dll is an ActiveX interface called IColumnProvider, and Microsoft dropped support for this
interface in Windows Vista (replacing it with something called the Property System).  You can glance at http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb776831%28VS.85%29.aspx and just read the first line after the page header:  "[This feature is supported
only under Windows XP or earlier. ]".  So, the PDF Title column feature didn't go away with 64-bit Windows 7, it went away with 32-bit Windows Vista.
The best solution to this problem would be for Adobe to update pdfshell.dll to provide the Property System interface that Vista and Windows 7 require.  See http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb776859%28v=VS.85%29.aspx if you care for the details.
Then Adobe should release 32-bit and 64-bit versions of pdfshell.dll implementing the new interface, and we'd get both the PDF tab and Explorer columns like Title for PDF files in 32-bit and 64-bit versions of Windows 7 (and Vista).
Alternatively, some enterprising developer could presumably write a shim that would present the Property System interface on its upper side (callable by Explorer) and the IColumnProvider interface on its lower side (capable of calling existing versions of
pdfshell.dll).  It would need to deal with interfacing between 64-bit Explorer and a 32-bit pdfshell.dll ... I assume that this is possible somehow, but I don't know.
A kludge that might be (barely?) usable would be to use Windows XP Mode to run a 32-bit Windows XP Explorer and use that to navigate using the PDF Titles and possibly launch them.  Perhaps you could come up with a way to make Windows XP Mode's Explorer
launch Adobe Reader in the host 64-bit Windows 7 OS.
A third-party solution might be xplorer^2 (http://www.zabkat.com/index.htm) which claims to support the interface that Microsoft dropped in Vista (http://www.zabkat.com/blog/07Feb10-column-handlers-revived.htm).  I know nothing about this program, I
just found it while Googling for "column handler".  It says that it has a 21 day trial, is available in 32-bit and 64-bit versions and costs $29.95 (presumably US dollars).  There is a "lite" version that is free for non-commercial
use ... all of this info is just repeated from their web pages, I have no connection to the company and only know what I read ... I haven't tried it.
It's worth noting that life isn't perfect with pdfshell.dll and 32-bit Windows XP either, depending on your PDF files.  Some documents don't have Titles (depending, partly, on what software produced them).  Some have Titles long enough that they
won't display in an Explorer column (though they show up truncated on the status line and un-truncated in a tooltip).  I have a file called "GEARaspi Security Information.pdf" (http://www.gearsoftware.com/support/GEARAspi%20Security%20Information.pdf)
that has no Title, created by OpenOffice.org 2.4 according to its PDF tab.  I have another called "319124.pdf" (http://www.intel.com/assets/pdf/whitepaper/319124.pdf) which has the rather wordy title "Intel®  Extreme Memory Profile
(Intel® XMP) supporting Intel® X48 Express Chipset with DDR3 White Paper".  Despite having a Title, no Title is displayed in a Title column in Windows Explorer in 32-bit Windows XP, though a truncated version appears in the status bar and
the tooltip gets the whole thing, wrapping to two lines to do it.  Intel's file was produced with Acrobat PDFMaker 7.0 for Word according to its PDF tab.
This post is based on what I could figure out, I hope it's helpful (if discouraging ... you won't fix this with a registry hack).

The paths won't agree on the two OSs so a simple XML import isn't likely to work.
See Sync iPod/iPad/iPhone with two computers and, if needed, Make a split library portable. The techniques in the first link will work when moving the library between Windows and OS X as long as the library is "portable", but iTunes takes quite some time checking the database when the library is opened under a different OS.

  • Annoying  listings in  iCal  month view

I have both my laptop and the desktop calendar preferences set to "show time in Month view." The desktop looks exactly like I want it:
    10:00 am Division meeting
But recently the laptop calendar entries have started to look like this:
    [Nov 20, 2008]10:00am
    Division meeting
I don’t recall doing anything to make this happen and am tempted to blame MobileMe. Its very annoying because it takes up space to have the date printed out for every appointment when there is already a date in the calendar. Further, when I try to print a calendar page it only prints the date/time and not the name of the appointment. I’ve checked preferences, but can’t find where to change this. Its making me nuts.
So,in the month view I want to go from this:
    [Nov 20, 2008]10:00am
    Division meeting
    Back to this:
    10:00 am Division meeting
I'm sure there is something simple I've just overlooked, but I'd appreciate some help

In the month view, it's all down to the number of events you have on that day plus the size of the window/resolution of the screen.
If there's room, iCal will display all of an event's description, but if you shrink the window or add more events, the description will reduce in size- eventually into two columns - to give a chance of seeing all of them. Once there are more events than fit, you'll see an elipsis ( ... } at the top of the day. When this happens, you can only see ALL that day's events by going to week or day views.
You can potentially fit more in on the month view by turning-off the option to show the event time in month view in iCal Preferences.

  • When in ical monthly view how do I select one day to look at?

I am doing some work updating a variety of appointments in my diary, when I am in monthly view in ical, and I want to open up a day view in the future to look in more detail at the events for that day I am unable to choose a view for that day, I am automatically given todays view if I click on Day, and if I click on the day in question in the month view I am invited to add an event, which is not what I want.

    roonz,
What operating system are you using?
I am using Mavericks Calendar. In "Month" view, when I click once on the day, and then switch to the "Day" view, the day that I clicked on once is displayed.
