Some ugly fonts

Some fonts are weird. For example, this is a screenshot from http://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Xorg#Installing (firefox)
Archlinux
Ubuntu
Am I missing a font or a configuration?

So, what did you change? We're not psychic.
Ubuntu include tons of font-related patches for improvements. See Gentoo thread if you want to learn.

  • [SOLVED] Ugly fonts in KDE plamoids

    I'm running KDE 4.8 on my Arch 64 box and I've had for a while now ugly fonts in all the plasma widgets I'm running. All the other fonts look nice and smooth in all other places, eg. GTK and QT apps etc. but plasma widget fonts aren't as smooth for some reason. I'm using the infinality patches with the "UBUNTU" setting currently. Any heads up on would be nice...
    Many Thanks

    Dont use the first advice, because you will lose the advantages of raster system system wide. Raster system is faster than native, so apps are snappier with it. The second method is better

  • Ugly fonts in all qt programs

    Recently all my qt programs (even qtconfig itself) has ugly fonts.
    It must be some new packages but I dont know which.
    I already tired to remove ~/.fonts.conf to restore the defaults, but it remains the same.
    Can anyone help?

    I managed to fix the problem. I created the file "~/.fonts.conf" with
    <?xml version="1.0"?>
    <!DOCTYPE fontconfig SYSTEM "fonts.dtd">
    <fontconfig>
    <match target="font" >
    <edit mode="assign" name="hinting" >
    <bool>true</bool>
    </edit>
    </match>
    <match target="font" >
    <edit mode="assign" name="hintstyle" >
    <const>hintfull</const>
    </edit>
    </match>
    <match target="font" >
    <edit mode="assign" name="rgba" >
    <const>rgb</const>
    </edit>
    </match>
    <match target="font" >
    <edit mode="assign" name="antialias" >
    <bool>true</bool>
    </edit>
    </match>
    </fontconfig>
    and then entered:
    fc-cache -vf
    and the problem is now resolved.

  • Ugly fonts in evince

    Noticed that evince shows ugly fonts for some pdfs, while okular renders them fine. Any way to fix that?

    Hi,
    This is because of a known bug with poppler. They say it will be fixed in poppler 0.14. If you want to patch the current version of poppler you can use one of the patches here:
    http://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=5589
    Use "makepkg -o" with the poppler PKGBUILD, apply the patch in the src directory, then do "makepkg -e".  This will rebuild poppler, poppler-glib, and poppler-qt packages. For evince, you need to install poppler and poppler-glib.
    I was able to patch and build poppler and poppler-glib 0.12.4 with patch #31683, but I had to fix one hunk by hand. This solved the rendering problem.
    Or, you can just wait for the updated version of poppler and use xpdf until then. xpdf doesn't have this problem.

    Since upgrading to Aperture 3.3, when I try to sync photos to my iPhone, I'm getting all versions in a stack loading onto my phone, which makes for some ugly pics, as well as taking up nearly double the space.

    Could it be the problem lies with iTunes and not Aperture?  iTunes 10.6.3 was released on the same day as Aperture 3.3 --  June 11.
    If someone has a configuration to test an older version of Aperture with iTunes 10.6.3 to see if the problem exists, that could be helpful.

  • Some web fonts are not rendered

    When I visit some sites that use web fonts, the web fonts are not rendered. It does not render with the wrong font - the text is completely invisible.
    On other sites, web fonts work just fine, and I cannot understand why some web fonts work and some don't.
    Examples of non-working sites:
    http://blog.mailchimp.com/ (headers shown, article text missing)
    https://www.sbab.se/ (huge top header missing)
    http://onlinepizza.se/ (headers and button texts missing)
    Examples of working sites:
    http://www.google.com/fonts
    http://www.typetester.org/
    On the Network -> Fonts tab in the inspector, no downloads are shown on the broken sites. Is there a font cache that I can delete?
    I have tried uninstalling firefox, deleting all profiles and installing it again. Nothing changes.

    Works fine here on Linux.

  • Severely ugly fonts in openjdk6 from testing

    I have been using icedtea6 from AUR for months now and I just replaced it with openjdk6 from testing. icedtea6 had ugly fonts, but openjdk6 has severely ugly fonts. It's not too horrible with regular fonts, but it is with bold. A good test is the Font2DTest:
    java -jar /usr/lib/jvm/java-1.6.0-openjdk/demo/jfc/Font2DTest/Font2DTest.jar
    Does anyone know whether it's possible yet to get good fonts in openjdk6? If so, how?
    Last edited by skottish (2008-08-04 18:30:19)

    Problem is still here in openjdk6, not in jre/jdk.
    I think it is related to: http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=495988
    Our fontconfig.properties.src is correct, but we have no compilefontconfig.jar, so I cannot try what the bug reporter mentioned, "java -jar compilefontconfig.jar fontconfig.config fontconfig.bfc".
    In Ubuntu, they added that file in 6b10-1: "* Install compilefontconfig.jar in openjdk-6-jre-lib package."
    Should we have that file?

  • [solved] "monospace" font displayed as some other font

    For some reason (that I am unable to figure out for myself), the "monospace" font on my system is not displayed as such, but replaced by some other font, presumably* by the last one installed to the system. See this screenshot of uzbl-browser as an example; leafpad's font-selection dialog would be another.
    * A while back (don't remember when) "monospace" started being displayed as some pleasant sans-serif font, which I did not investigate. When I installed some blackletter fonts (ttf-unifraktur) recently, it started being displayed as one of them, which is more of a nuisance, see screenshot.)
    What could be going on here? What is the "monospace" font anyway?
    Last edited by Franek (2014-02-27 20:54:20)

    First: I probably should have mentioned that I am using the infinality-bundle and infinality-bundle-fonts repositories.
    (Re-)Installing ttf-dejavu instantly made uzbl pretty again. But actually, I did not have ttf-dejavu installed in the first place, but t1-dejavu-ib from the infinality-bundle-fonts repository. When I change back to t1-dejavu-ib, Monospace is displayed as a blackletter font again.
    Here is the output of "fc-match monospace" with ttf-dejavu installed:
    $ fc-match monospace
    DejaVuSansMono.ttf: "DejaVu Sans Mono" "Book"
    And here it is with t1-dejavu-ib:
    $ fc-match monospace
    sawarabi-gothic-medium.ttf: "Sawarabi Gothic" "Medium"
    About this font (which is certainly not the blackletter font I am seeing in uzbl):
    $ pacman -Qs sawarabi
    local/ttf-sawarabi-ib 0.0045-2 (infinality-bundle-fonts)
    Sawarabi font family for Japanese script.
    I have nothing in ~/.config/fontconfig, whereas /etc/fonts/conf.d/ is filled with several symlinks, most of which belong to the fontconfig-infinality-ultimate package. They all look alright to me, or rather: I trust that the infinality-bundle(-fonts) packages are doing the right thing. (Should I ask bohoomil about this?) Here is a list:

  • A terrible bug , some basic fonts are missing

    Hi:
        There's a huge bug when using acrobat 11 to creating PDF from Word,I find that some fonts are changed,even the system fonts.what's more,When editing the PDF,some system fonts are missing as well! eg:system fonts:simkai、simfang...
        Hope that someone will help me,thank you!

    Thanks for help me so much,and for this problem:
    firstly ,I'm sure they are system fonts,you may check it in microsoft website or windows documentation.
    (仿宋-simfang 楷体-simkai)
    secondly ,about editting interface, in office when loading fonts I find it's right:
    in acrobat, they are partly missing, you can check and compare the two pictures:
    thirdly , creating PDF from Word,may cause this issue:
    this affect only Simplified Chinese text,and system's language is Simplified Chinese,too.
    I can't find a solution so far.
    Thank you very much!

  • Some text fonts are missing or not displayable???

    Can anyone help!?
    Sorry if this is the wrong forum.
    I opened a logic 7 song today and had this error message pop up 'some text fonts are missing or not displayable'. I then noticed whenever I tried to mute audio (using 'Apple M') logic would crash.
    Any clues what has happened or how I fix this?
    Thank you!
    G

    I have had this exact issue/warning when opening up older songs that I made in previous versions of Logic.
    To solve it, do this procedure even if you never use the Score Editor:
    1. Open the Score Editor
    2. Go to Text>Text Styles (in the toolbar: Layout,Edit,Functions,Attributes, Text, View, Options
    3. When you open Text Styles you will see the grid with different kinds of Fonts for the various Score Editor settings. In this grid, whatever fonts are not available on your computer will have some sort of asterisk bracket stuff instead of saying the name of the font that is already on your computer - Arial, Times, Helvetica etc.
    4. Change the fonts by clicking them and selecting ones that are on your computer. If you dont use the Score Editor, it doesnt matter what fonts you put there. Anything will do but you must get rid of the columns which have got a 'hole' with brackets.
    5. Save the document with the changes made - the problem should not re-occur.
    PS For some reason, when booting up, Logic experiences a 'crisis' when it doesnt have previous fonts available. As I said, do this even if you never use the Score Editor

    Yeah the whole "blame the OS" thing is a red herring. What the hell is Firefox doing looking on my external drives in the first place? It asks permission to use a font on another drive, but what else is it looking at outside of the Applications folder where it should know enough to mind its own business?

  • Happy Holidays!  Looking for some additional Fonts

    Happy Holidays!
    You guys know where I can download some additional fonts (other than what's in Tiger)?
    Additional fonts that I can use in FCE, and other applications?
    And where they'd need to be installed?
    Thank you
    Happy New Year!
    Mike

    Hi(Bonjour)
    It's more a topic for Mac OS X forum, but you can use any Truetype or postscript fonts.
    There are many place on the web to seek for free fonts, but you can get some uncomplete set (ie without some accented characters, etc) or get bad quality.
    You can also buy font from good font provider.
    Also, you can find some CDs with many of them for a nominal fee.
