Some videos won't import, some will??

I am using iMovie 10.0.5. I have made several videos in the past with no problems.
I am trying to upload videos from my JVC video camera. Most of them worked just fine. I was able to share them to my desktop and also put them in my movie and share the movie when I was done. So far, I have run into four videos, however, that will not import. They show up on the project but there's a little video camera icon that tells me they're still on the video camera and that I need to reimport them by going to the File menu and clicking "Reimport from camera/archive..." and there is no such option. I was able to get two of them to import after deleting and starting over. But I've tried several, several times with these last two and nothing is working. I've shut down iMovie and restarted. I've deleted and reimported. I've favorited. I've created a new event and imported them there instead. Nothing's working. I can't share them to save them onto my desktop and I can't share my movie with those videos on it because it says they're still on my video camera. If I turn off my video camera a big "?" appears on the video and it says the media is missing. PLEASE HELP! I am no computer expert, so speak slowly. ;-)

Get rid of any non-std alpha numeric characters from the file name, itunes doesn't like some special characters...e.g. -#><[],etc.

I cannot view some videos and participate in some websites since Adobe upgraded all to Flash 11.7. I have an older Mac G5 PowerPC (no Intel chip) running OS 10.5.8. I keep getting splash screens saying I have to update to Flash 11.7 but 11.7 is made for those Macs with an Intel chip. I am running the newest Flash for my system. It seems all concerned should have made Flash retro-compatible for those of us with older Macs. Is there a work around to this Flash requirement short of buying a new Mac with the Intel chip?

I'll bet you'll have better luck if you post your question in the Power Mac discussions here: https://discussions.apple.com/community/desktop_computers/power_mac

  • How can I properly import .mp4 videos? (LR4 won't import some of them)

    Here's the issue:
I have originals .mp4s that were made either with my GoPro (1st gen) or with a video camera (I forget which kind) and these seem to import just fine But the .mp4s I really want to import are the edited versions that were edited in Corel Photostudio in the 1080p or 720p .mp4 also windows says they are .mp4 the file extensions says its .mp4 also but when I go to properties the edited videos look as if they are audio files but they play just fine in windows media player (and I can see the video content) as for the originals unedited; same thing I can see/play them just fine.
I don't understand why LR4 can't import it? I have tried doing a conversion; but the conversion won't keep it in the same resolution, it tends to want to upscale making the video bigger and more grainy converted/upscaled versions ARE importable too.
Is there a specific .mp4 format/codec LR4 will only accept? If so what is it?

well I was talking about two different things here; but mainly LR4 won't import something that is supposed to be .MP4 yet its playable by windows media player but when going to properties on said file it looks as if its only an audio file.  This file was edited from a series of .mp4 videos I had compiled together in Corel VideoStudio X4 which won't import into LR4.
I was also talking about converting the existing .mp4s that I had already made in Corel videostudio X4; I thought I had left them in their native format of 720p but the only option is to do 1080p which means that I'd have to upscale thus creating the larger frames and grainy ones too.
All I want to do is to have native import capabilities so I can see them in LR4 so that I can publish to my photo gallery on my Synology NAS and likewise LR4 DOES have support for .mp4 importation but its not doing it so I'd like to know what I need to find out about the file and what to do with it to convince LR4 to import it

  • Some vids won't import to iMovie, help?

When I try to import something from iTunes and the window pops up, some of the movies are greyed out (like the stuff that aren't even movies). I've downloaded all of my movies off the internet, and they normally work aftered I've converted them to iTunes. It took me a really long time to find a place where I could get them, and I doubt I'll be able to find another. Is there a way I can I can make iMovie accept them, or does anyone know a place I can upload them and download them them again (maybe it's the source, but like I said, I doubt I'll be able to find another place to get these movies)? I really need some help.

Try opening one of the problem jpeg files in Preview, then Save As a jpeg with a different name. For some reason, certain jpegs created in 3rd party applications are not always recognised as such by some Mac software. It could be to do with how some scanners save files. Some time ago I had an issue like this - re-saving the files in Preview fixed the problem. From memory, it related to an Epson photo stitching program (for doing panoramas) - the files were saved as jpegs, but wouldn't import to iPhoto. Saving again with Preview solved it.
It's worth a try! If one works, they all should work once re-saved (quite a few to work through though).

  • Videos won't import into iTunes 7

I want to put some of my own videos onto my new iPod video, but I can't put any videos into iTunes. I've tried dragging and dropping, "import" and "add file". And nothign ever shows up. How am I suppossed to put video into itunes that I don't buy from the iTunes store? Thanks for the help.

This also happens with me. I have an Intel Core Duo 17", running iTunes 7.1 with the latest Quicktime, and OS 10.4.4. My movies work great in Quicktime, but won't import into iTunes at all. When I try to drop them on my iPod directly, it tells me that my 5th gen iPod can't display video.
I brought my iPod into work today, and hooked it up to the G5/dual 1.8 tower here, also running iTunes 7, and quicktime (7.1.3 I think?), OS 10.3.9. I was able to drop the videos directly into iTunes, and they showed up fine. I was also able to then put the video on my iPod.
As for the video, I converted them to .mp4 files with a 3rd party converter from .mpg files.
Interested to see what the solution is. Glad I'm not the only one with this problem!

  • Videos won't import!

    Any help is appreciated!
I'm trying to import some videos into a new project in Imovie, when I do this a pop up appears saying that the videos are being imported and then another saying that the thumb nails are being generated. After this is complete however there are no videos in the project's library. All the videos are in AVI format.
    Thanks.

.m4v still works just fine. So it looks like using/converting to at least that format is the best bet right now for iMovie'08 users. QuickTime will convert in a reasonable amount of time depending on system resources/plug-ins. Other "recognized" formats may still work too. If were lucky this bug will be fixed in the near future...

  • Apple store videos won't import into Video iPod

I spent about 19 hours over the last few days talking with mac support phone people, my own Mac repair guy, and the "geniuses" at the local Apple store, and no-one seems to know why I can't get the tv episode I downloaded from the Apple store website to go onto my new video iPod. The Apple store "genius" I first talked to noticed I had an iPod programmed to work in Windows, even though I have a G4, running 10.4.3, with the newest versions of iPhoto, Quicktime, and iTunes, and told the guy that info when I ordered the thing in October. The "genius" did a system restore, and loaded a couple of music videos, which I could view.
When I synced it up to my computer, I got the dialog box asking if I wanted to associate the iPod with my computer instead of the one at the store. I did, and I lost the ability to import videos. When I clicked on the iPod icon at the bottom of the iTunes page to see preferences, both video and photo buttons were missing. Calls up to the 2nd level of iTunes support and Desktop support failed to restore it, even after I did an archive install of Tiger. I finally installed Tiger on another internal drive (it had Panther), updated everything, and when I boot from that drive, I see the video and photo buttons in the iPod preferences. After making my other drive point to my iTunes library on the first hard-drive, I re-downloaded all of my music files to the iPod, but it still won't import the tv show (it also no longer allows me to import my podcasts). Apple support personnel recommended I exchange the iPod for another one, but the folks at the local Apple store wouldn't let me, even though I have a case number (#56524834, in case any Apple monitors want to help out). I've lost so much time and have become so frustrated (I could have watched the show on my Mac 19 times by now; it does play on the computer, so I know the file works) that I'm thinking of dumping my Apple stock. After all, if the customer service is this lousy for a guy who's always used Macs, I think the company is going to lose ground to other companies. Any ideas on how I can get the videos into my iPod (and regain the ability to import podcasts)? thanks, in advance!

But it was the actual MP4 file downloaded from Apple's own website, so I doubt that it was encoded incorrectly. I think it's faulty software, and I'm waiting for Apple to release a patch to fix it. But I don't expect they'll admit it. On the other hand, I can't help but wonder if it has something to do with the fact that my iPod was originally encoded to work on PCs.
I'm not an expert but my understanding is that the files are supposed to be independent of the HD here. If you were able to load any files to the iPod before this problem, then I don't see why HD format should be a problem in this one particular case.
As to the file being from Apple's own web site, I don't consider that a guarantee that mistakes won't be made. However, as a commercial ($$$) enterprise, I consider their product in a "professional" light and hold them to a higher standard than I would others. The file I previosuly mentioned was, strangely enough, a tutorial on podcasting. It is from a series dealing with Apple products (like Aperture) and techniques (like exporting an iPod compatible file from iMovie or batch procissing in QT using Automator) so I assumed the authors are either Apple Techs or Apple "Specialists." That is why I was surprised when one of the podcasts would not sync.
In any case, the conversion of media to iPod compatible format and podcasting is in what... a 60-75 day infancy. So I do expect there will be problems. Especially based on the mistakes I've made in performing any own conversions and initial podcasting test of a public domain (old 1936 Republic "Saturday" matinee movie) Ray "Crash" Corrigan serial. Software, techniques, and workflows simply aren't "perfected" at this point, so I tend to try and learn from the mistakes -- both my own and others.
On the other hand, however, it might be a god idea to post a list of "problem" podcast files to see if these problems are actually file related, download related, or unique to individual iPods. In any case, best of luck to you.

I got my first video ever and downloaded just fine and all, but it won't import onto my ipod. Every time it will act like it's doing it and the load bar moves to the end, but then a message shows after it's finished.
    This is what it says:
Attempting to copy to the disk,(ipods name)failed. Can not be read from or written to.
If you could please help me out. I'm not sure what is wrong and I think that my free apple phone support has expired?

  • Why won't my video won't import into iMovie. There is a red ERROR message underneath clip.

I just imported 40 out of 43 clips of HD video from my JVC HD Everio camera into iMovie '11. It's my first time using either equipment for editing. I selected import all but only 40 of the clips successfully imported. 3 of the clips were not able to be imported but I can still play the clips fine from the import window. The clips all have red error messages underneath them. This is an issue that I've seen posted other places online but it doesn't seem to be resolved. It's very frustrating for me, I've been researching online to try to fix this for hours now. The closest I have come to a solution involved deleting extra 3rd party plugins from my quicktime folder however I don't have a folder named "Quicktime" in my Library. So I don't know what to do. Please help!

The error message appears under video clips already imported into iMovie. Like in this screenshot http://km.support.apple.com/resources/sites/APPLE/content/live/VIDEOS/0/VI57/en_ US/imovie-start-poster.jpg on my mac out of the 6 clips shown per row, only 5 of them have the word "imported" underneath them in white letters and then one of the clips has the word "error" underneath it.
I don't think it's a corrupted file because yeah I can play the three clips just fine. The page that I read that had that fix in it (deleted plugins) was here: https://discussions.apple.com/thread/1893021?start=0&tstart=0 The correct answer is near the bottom of the page and was posted by iphonejunky. Maybe the fix would be that simple but like I said, I can't find a folder named quicktime in my library. I don't know if I'm just stupid or what.
I don't think I have Flip4Mac installed because I never consciously installed it. I use VLC for playing most video. The clips imported are all .mov

  • Some files won't upload; Others will

I'm having problems uploading certain mp3 files to my iPod mini.
In general, the mini seems to be working just fine but there are some files that have been part of my library for several years that won't upload. The same files will open and play properly on iTunes and other software.
These files were originally loaded and currently reside on an external HD as mp3 files. When I do a "GET INFO" they come up as MPEG Movies. If I add the .mps extension to the end of the file name and do a "GET INFO" they come up as mp3 files but still wont load into my iPOD mini.
I can do a "convert to mp3" in iTunes and the newly converted mp3s will work properly (that is they will upload to the mini.) This is a possible solution however, I have in the neighborhood of 2500 albums in mp3 format and it appears that about a third of them fall into the catagory described above. It's taken years to convert my entire music collection and I'd like to avoid having to do it again
Any ideas about what might be going on.
    I'm using a G4 MAC with OSX

    Welcome to Apple Discussions!
You may need to convert them all. Just highlight the songs and then convert them. (Highlight the affected songs and hold your mouse down over one. The menu should pop up and you can go to convert selection.) It should be a one time thing.

  • Some fonts won't import into font book

I am importing fonts, ttf files, into Font Book from the Vault of the discontinued font manager Fontcase. A few have brought up error messages, and I do not import them. But many more, maybe 20%, simply do not get imported; no error message appears. Some are a decade or more old, but all are ttf files and were imported into Fontcase without difficulty, back when.
Same thing happens whether I drag the fonts into FB or double click on the ttf file itself and click Import.
Why might this be, and what can I do about it?
    Using Font Book 5.0.1, OS X 10.9.4.
    Thanks for any suggestions.

From Kurt's excellent article (linked below).
Fonts which cannot be used in OS X:
Apple bitmapped fonts from OS 7.5 and earlier
Linux Type 1 PostScript - Paired fonts with .pfa and .afm extensions.
Type 3 PostScript - A fairly short lived PostScript variant. They allowed for the full use of the PostScript language such as shading, color and fill patterns. However, they lacked hinting, an important typography attribute. Obsolete.
Old, very old third party bitmapped fonts. Way back before TrueType or Type 1 PostScript fonts. There were no outline vector fonts for printing. Each point size for a typeface had to be built as a high resolution bitmap file from a companion program, or purchased separately. Good riddance.

  • Photoshop video won't import into after effects

    Hello,
I've been trying to import a .psd file that has video into After Effects CC and I'm getting an error message:
After Effects error: Problem with Photoshop document "xxxx". Quicktime is not installed or is too old of a version.
This doesn't make sense as I'm up to date with all my software. I've been watching tutorials showing that it is possible although apparently not for me!
I'm on a Late 2012 iMac and running OS X 10.9.3. I'm also running CC for both applications. I have Quicktime Player 10.3 and Quicktime Player 7.
Thank you for taking the time reading this! I really hope someone can help me.

Mostly it's because I'm way more familiar with PS as a painting tool and some efx I can't create in AE (or it'll take me forever to figure it out). I was hoping to basically get down what's in my head with PS then bring it into AE but have the option of going back into PS if need be.
I should explain that my "day job" is painting background colour keys for animation and a traditional painter and though I'm not an animator, I hope to incorporate the skills I have with After Effects. It just seemed a more straight forward way I guess.
    Thanks for asking Trevor!

  • My iPhoto videos won't import in iMovie?

I have my iPhoto library connected and everything and I open up iMovie, hoping that that popup will come up asking if I want to import iPhoto movies. It doesn't come up. But there iPhoto Videos event is on the column. I click the iPhoto Videos library and all it says is "Movies are being loaded. Currently 0% complete." Now I'm not sure if it just staying at 0 because I have lots of files or it's not going.
I also tried copying files from iPhoto onto my desktop then importing those manually into my iMovie but the files just imported out of order and Mobile Quality when all of my video files are HD quality. Help.

Please confirm that you are really running an outdated version of Tiger 10.4.9, and what version of iMovie and iPhoto?
