Some way to pull in the sharpen mask or something...

I'm finding myself growing less and less happy with the sharpen mask the more I use Lightroom. I've found that there is often always a bunch of mask border artefacts that sort of "sparkle" around the high-contrast edges of things. Most of the time now I try and do without it and just sharpen and/or desharpen with the local brush if sharpening the smoother areas is exacerbating noise too much, or go ahead and use the global sharpen mask but go over all the high-contrast edges with an auto-masked desharpening brush to clean them up - but both techniques are very time consuming. I wish there was some way to confine the mask away from the highlights around high-contrast edges - ya know - de-fringe the sharpen mask, or pull it in, or something like that - i dunno... Turning detail down helps, but then you lose sharpening detail where you want it too... - Just a thought - please don't kill me............

Try this:
1. Select Mail>File>New Message.
2. Select Mail>Window>Address Panel.
3. Use (command+click) on the desired addressees in the Address Panel to create the list.
4. Click "To:" on the top left of the Address Panel.
The group that you selected will be added to the "To" field in your New Message.

Magic Trackpad should have some way to attach to the Bluetooth Keyboard

I use a mac mini as an HTPC, and have been waiting for this exact product ever since the mini first came out.
For the life of me, I can't imagine why Apple didn't ship it with some sort of clip mechanism to attach it to the side of the bluetooth keyboard so that the two can be a single "couch friendly" unit.
I guess we'll have to wait for the third parties to step up. The idea of using duct tape and a ruler on the bottom just.... doesn't seem like the Apple way.

Because I've my original response I've been getting email updates about this topic and decided to install Adobe Media Player and test myself.
On my main system (Windows XP SP3) IIS is not blocked when installing and running Adobe Media Player. I suspect your problem may be related to something else entirely. (Flash Media Server or frankly any other httpd could cause the issue you're experiencing). (I can watch videos with the player and concurrently debug websites using http://localhost, http://localdomain:80 as well as http://localhost:80
I'd try to pin down exactly when the problem started happening and see what was installed. It's also worth noting that there are a lot of malware programs that monitor / intercept and direct traffic on port 80, this can cause all sorts of havoc on XP with IIS.

What version shows in Settings > General > About > Version ? If that doesn't show 5.0.1 then see if you can update to it via the following.
To update to iOS 5.0.1 you need iTunes 10.5 on your computer. When you've got iTunes 10.5 installed then connect your iPad to it and copy any purchases off the iPad to your computer's iTunes via File > Transfer Purchases. You should also backup the device (right-click the iPad 'device' and select 'back up'), and copy off any important documents, file, notes etc (e.g. by email, the file sharing section at the bottom of the Apps tab in iTunes, wifi, whatever the apps that you use support) - the update process should backup and restore the content but it's best to be safe.
If iTunes doesn't prompt you to update to iOS 5.0.1 on your iPad, then with your iPad connected to and selected on the left-hand side of it, then on the Summary tab on the right-hand side click the Check For Updates button.

I am not familiar with a Coolpix P6800. A P7800 requires LR 5.3 or higher, so wouldn’t work with LR 4. There is an S6800 that was announced 4 months ago that I don’t see produces raw files to be supported or not by LR.

HD Crashed any way to pull down the website into iWeb

My HD on my Mac Mini died and was replaced. No data was recoverable. I've reinstalled iWeb. Is there any way to import my iWeb website back into iWeb?

For your future reference:
Your iWeb data is stored, not in your actual html files, but in a file called Domain.sites which is stored in your Home/Library/Application Support/iWeb folder. You should backup this file whenever you make big changes to your site, because if it gets lost or damaged, you will have to start all over. If you want to work on your site on another computer, copy this file to a thumb drive to move it around.

My Pages document will no longer show up on my iPad. It shows up on iCloud and i tried to download the document on to my computer. It only gives me an error and tells me to try again. Is there some way I could recover my document?

The other day I tried to open a document on my Pages app on my iPad. I soon notice I could no longer see it anywhere is my documents. I opened my laptop and went to iCloud.com to search for it there. On iCloud.com I am able to see the document but I can not do anything with it. I tried downloading it to my computer as a pdf. file but it just says error and to try again. I was able to copy the document but it does not allow me to download the copied document either. Is there some way I can recover the document or a pervious version of the document?

How are you seeing your document on iCloud from your laptop? Web browser, or OS X Pages open dialog?
If you have MS Word or .pages formatted files parked on iCloud, the web interface will not permit their download as PDF, and in fact, PDF is an inactive option in that download menu for these word processing files. There is no copy facility available, but duplicate functionality exists from the iWork category within the iCloud web presence.
If you have Pages v4.2 or later installed on your (assumption: Mac) laptop, launch Pages and in the open file dialog, select iCloud on the dialog toolbar. Now, press and hold the option key as you drag and drop a copy of our document from iCloud to your desktop. The reverse works also.
See if you can open that document on your laptop now.

Is there some way I can open the contact list, click on all of the individual addresses to which I want to send the email without the list closing between each address entry, and have all of my address entries be listed to the email at one time? Something like it works in Gmail. I do not want to use set lists, I want to enter different addresses each time I send an email. And I am a very slow typist, so I don't want to type the first few letters of each recipient's name. It is much faster for me to just click on the e-mail addresses in the list as a group. It doesn't make any sense to me to have to reopen the contact list for each address, when it should be so easy to click on all of the addresses I want at one time and then click once to add them all to the email as a group. If there is a solution to this, please tell me. Thanks.

Is there a way to automatically control the audio volume on safari? Some streaming video sites (Hulu, in particular), like to try to deafen me with the commercials. And yes, I'm not an idiot, I know that I can manually control the volume.

I've been searching for some way to automatically control the volume, so the commercials on streaming sites (Hulu, for example), don't deafen me. And yes, I am aware that I can manually control the volume with the volume keys on the keyboard or the slider in the menubar.

This really frustrates me, small differences between the apps that shouldn't be there.
I understand you can't change the keyboard shortcuts to be the same/similar, but this is totally different. Let's hope it changes soon.

I wanted to know whether Java provides any API to pull up each and every permission associated with a file.
For example: In Unix, a file has 3 sets of permissions as shown below:
<UserPermissions><GroupPermissions><Others'Permissions>
Example: -rwxrwxrwx
r - for read
w - for write
x - for execute
There are some methods provided in java.io.File, such as canRead() and canWrite(), which help in telling whether a file is readable or writable. But I did not find any API which tells whether a perticular user has read/write/execute permission or not. Also, I presume the canRead(),canWrite() methods pull up the permissions pertaining to the owner of the file, but not for the group and others part of a Unix File's permissions.
Is there a way to pull up the read/write/executable permissions for all the 3 catergories namely, UserPermissions, GroupPermissions and Others'Permissions.

In the java.io.File class, there's methods canRead() and canWrite().
They will test the read/write permissions of the Unix user you are running your Java program with.
They will not return a list of user names, user groups etc though.
You'd have to get the permissions through some platform specific method, eg. via JNI.
