Some weird stuff going on after I deleted var/folders

I saw my var/folders was taking up around 7GB and my poor 55 GB MacBook Air was suffering because of it, so I decided to delete. Some weird stuff going on now. Icons for apps are acting up. I restarted my computer after that. Before I deleted I put it on my 500GB external hard drive. Any tips? Should I have done this? Any negative repurcussions because I did that?
Any help is appretiated, and thank you!

I fixed it on my own if you wish to know a detailed story of how I did it, comment. Also, know that I don't come here too often but I'll recieve an E-mail so I guess I'll answer anything

  • Weird stuff going on with my iPhone 4: losing settings, "set up your phone"

I've had the iPhone since the 3G unit including the 3GS. I've had my iPhone 4 since 6/24 and all of a sudden in the last couple of days, I've been experiencing some weirdness I have never seen before in my iPhones.
A couple of days ago, I noticed that the battery percent meter was simply turned off. I did NOT turn it off. It was just simply off now.
Today, I synced my iPhone to iTunes 9.2 at home and the sync went fine. I realized right after the sync that I had purchased some music and didn't "Transfer purchases" (don't ya just hate remembering you forgot to do something just AFTER you unplug your iPhone! ).
Anyway, I unplugged and plugged it back in. iTunes now showed a "Set Up Your Phone" screen and offered to restore a backup. Huh?! The weird thing is that the name of my iPhone 4 showed up correct in the device list AND iTunes was wanting to restore a backup of the same name.
    sigh
I rebooted my Windows 7 64-bit PC and tried it all again. Same results. I then thought, I wonder if rebooting the iPhone 4 will fix the issue. I tried that. Same results.
    sigh
Okay, I guess I'll let it restore the backup. I just went through that (takes about 7 minutes) and things are great now.
Is that weird or what?! Never seen anything like that before. Is my iPhone 4 going bad?
    Weird. Weird. Weird.

  • How can I get rid of weird stuff going on? Please help!

Please some one help. Or re-direct me to a web site that can help.
    I installed 10.5.1 on my G4 Powerbook 1.67 Mhz from OS 10.3.9
The first thing that went wrong was that the Sound application got grayed out after the restart. The mute button in the Preferences was clicked but grayed out. So I installed again like before. So it worked.
So next I put one of my folders I kept always on the Desktop, where I had saved over the years pictures and things of interest, to have a fast access. I put this folder in to the Dock and tested it and the folder expanded and showed all the files in stack mode or grid. That is the last time I saw the Folder working in the Dock. Next the Icon showed a ? (question mark) that meant the original could not be accessed. Well even though I new the Folder name for sure and searched it, it just had disappeared.
So next I went to Starbucks since I don't have DSL and Downloaded the upgrade to 10.5.2 than I went home. And just for the **** of it checked for new upgrades on my Dial-Up connection to find 4 new upgrades.(Safari 3.1, Leopard Graphic, Time Machine and Airport and Security 2008_002) Since it takes hours to download with my dial up connection I just choose to Download the Time Machine and Airport Update of 10.2 MB. It downloaded and up came the window that the new software needs a restart. So I clicked restart up comes a window that says "Installing 1 item". I had changed my Desktop image earlier but when the "Installing 1 item" window came up it changed back to the back ground that you first see on your desktop after installation. The cloud burst in purple??/
In the "Install 1 item" window the status bar started moving for about 1 inch saying "Configuring Installation" and than stopped. And that was it. I waited for about 45 minutes and since nothing happened and I had no options I had to hold the start button down to shut down. Now after a deal like this I run always Utilities to repair the Permissions. That program is totally out of whack. It stops shortly after you click Repair Permissions and says something like "Repairing Permission Estimated time less than a minute". Well it takes about 10 minutes, than the status bar moves a bit and it says "Estimated time 39 minutes and than immediately counts down (like seconds) to 0 and says that the permissions are repaired. I also see and old blank disk entry that I had ejected earlier that still shows up in the left pane of the Utilities window. When I click on it the Utilities window moves from the First Aid tab to the next tab thats called Erase and ask me if I want to erase the DVD. But there is NO DVD in my drive. Now after Disk Utilitie repaired the Permission the following text appears in the window.
ACL found but not expected on "Applications/Utilities"
ACL found but not expected on "Application"
ACL found but not expected on "Library"
Sometimes there are a few more lines of text like this but this is just showing while I type this.
So do you have any idea? what's going on. Otherwise everything seems to work alright like CS 2, Mail, Safari, Word and all my other programs. I also had weeded out as good as I could the old left over files and apps from OS 9 (classic)
Any help would surely be great. Sincerely Volker and thanks for reading this long request.

There's a lot there, so I'll start with the parts I can answer quickly.
The "ACL found but not expected..." messages can be safely ignored, so says this article
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=306925
(look below all the "SUID" examples)
I had changed my Desktop image earlier but when the "Installing 1 item" window came up it changed back to the back ground that you first see on your desktop after installation.
Leopard installs updates a bit differently. If it's simply an application that does not change system files, it installs them like before, without having to restart. If the update is to the system, then you must immediately "restart," It then goes to that stars and purple screen to perform the installation. Before, it would do the installation while you still had control of the Mac and would prompt you to restart when it finished the installation. This change probably make things more secure and reliable, because you aren't allowed to do other things on the Mac while system updates are being installed.
Please post back with the remaining point of concern.

  • IMac is doing some weird stuff. Please help.

My iMac has been messing up the past couple days. I am on it right now and it's working perfectly fine aside from the fact I'm using an external monitor, but 99% of the time I cannot get on it. First of all the screen in my iMac does not work, it is completely black. When I try to start it up it, half of the time it makes the start up noise over and over without doing anything. My mouse will not light up and the lights on my keyboard wont light up. 49% of the time when it actually starts up right my external monitor will not work. It just wont read it. The 1% of times I get it to work I have to first press the power button on my iMac and then quickly press the power button on the external monitor otherwise it just doesn't work for some reason. I've reset the PRAM and tried to boot with my installation disk and holding down C and it does nothing. Prior to the screen going out for a couple months I noticed that after waking my computer up from sleep the background would change slightly different colors. Sometimes it would get sort of blue, sometimes yellow, sometimes red. Some of the times It would change my background to the background that comes preloaded for Leopard. And then there were times when waking it wouldn't do any of those things and would be perfectly fine. I really don't get whats going on with my computer. It is far from being under warranty. So I'm looking for a little advice from you people. I'm going to open this puppy up and check the capacitors, but what other things should I look for? Does this even sound like something I can fix on my own? Tell me some things you think might be wrong so I can make a check list to run through. Any ideas or advice is greatly appreciated.

  • Some weird stuff is showing up on my iPod...

Whenever my backlight is on there is a small blob of different color pixels or something on the screen. They stay there even when I change menus and they disappear when the backlight is off. It's just really annoying and I have no clue how to get rid of them. I know of a thing called dead pixels on stuff like hand held game systems and I was wondering if maybe this is similar?

Your iPod's screen may have been damaged in some way, causing the pixels to look strange.
But first, try resetting your iPod:
Press and hold the Menu and Select buttons together for about 5-10 seconds.
Try this several times. Also, connect your iPod to a power source while you're doing this, too.
Then, try restoring your iPod. This deletes all the content off of your iPod, but it's possible that it could resolve your iPod's issue.

  • While checking my e-mails some pop-ups came on. after i deleted them my whole mail page printing got smaller

my yahoo mail page just got minimized. How do I fix it?

I've had almost every issue you've had.  Finally on Friday the screen blacked out.  It was obviously still charged, since I could hear the message ring, but when I tried to light up the display it didn't light so I was unable to get to it unless I removed the battery.  Then, as soon as the display timed out, I couldn't get it lit up again without removing battery.  I had the same slow movements throughout the display as well as slow text messaging.  Every issue you had other than the alarm clock (that always worked well).
I took it in yesterday and, after over an hour spent there with a 'professional', I still had no answers.  He told me to come home and copy everything from my sd card to my computer, then re-format my card.  Well, my phone didn't even recognize that I had an sd card installed!!  Nor did my computer!
So then I got to experimenting...I removed the card and viola!!!!!!  The phone worked GREAT!  It's never worked so fast!  I then installed my husbands sd card to see if it was my phone's card reader or my card.  Turns out that the phone still worked great with his card installed and it did recognize his card in my phone.  So, my conclusion is that I need a new card.  I couldn't believe the difference in speed of everything!  It's like a brand new phone!
As for the hard reset...I did that over the weekend, before I could get to a verizon store.  It didn't work at all.
I'd say, do the same thing I did and see if that works.  Can't hurt!!!  Please keep me posted.  I'd like to see what you find out
    Good Luck!!!!

  • How do I go online on Safari after changing some IP stuff?

I usa a mac and I wanted to get a static IP so I could host a game and not have to port forward every time it changes etc..
So I went to System Prefences > Network > Wi-Fi > Advanced > TMI/IP and changed "DHCP "to "DCHP with manual address". I changed my IP and such accordingly, but the Internet wouldn't work after.
I spend about half an hour changing all the IP's and other stuff back to the way it was before. It said "you are connected to (*my network*) with the IP: (my *IP*) "
But, when I went to safari, it said "your computer is offline". I know it's not the my routers fault because my iPad3 works just fine on safari. But even though it says I'm connected to the Internet on my mac is still says that  "your computer is offline". Any help?
So, to recap, my IP stuff is PROBABLY fine, it established a connection to the Internet. I'm pretty sure everything is the same as when I started My router is fine because the Internet works on my iPad. And no, I have been using any "spyware software" or anything that might disable my internet.
The things I changed in Wi-Fi Advanced:
Used DHCP with manual address (Was normally just DHCP)
IPv4: (I changed the last digit. I don't know what the last digit actually was before that because it was a dynamic IP)
Network mask: (I changed from 255.255.0.0  to  255.255.255.0)
    (  ^^Or whatever it is)
Router: (I left it the same)
Before I changed anything, there was already an IP for all of the above, but whenever I switch back to DHCP they all go blank. Nada. No way to edit them. So that's out of the question. I needed to go on Manual to fill out the four text fields, or else I can't get it to work. Also, there is a chance I might have tempered with some other stuff like Bluetooth trying to connect my mac to my iPad for Internet. Tell me if you want to know about that too.
PS: If there is any way you can fix this and also get a static IP working, do let my know. But the Internet is the main thing I need. Sent on my awesome iPad ;)

Doing that didn't work AT ALL by a long run. Although after two boring days, after I went to a laptop repairs shop, (to no avail) I figured out that by clicking "Join other network" and typing in my network and password again, it worked. I mean SRSLY! Is that all I had to do?! Just put my password in again?! Well, atleast now I have internet back on my mac.

  • After 10.6.4 update, some audio not going through

After the 10.6.4 update I've been having trouble with some audio not going through the USB headset.
Things that refuse to go through the headset:
    * Empty trash noises
    * Skype notification noises
    * iChat alert noises
    Things that are working:
    * Coloquy
    * iTunes
I've tried toggling the System Preferences obviously. Unplugging speakers and USB headset and plugging back in a number of times (this seemed to fix some things, not others).
Anyone else having the same issue?
(Note to forum mods: you need to add 10.6.4 to your OS dropdown)

Reseting the PRAM has solved this problem.

  • Screen goes blank after a few mins, no matter what I do

I have a slight problem: I ran an update, which brought me a brand-new shiny kernel and a brand-new shiny xorg-server. It took me a few days until I bothered to reboot my computer and after that things got hairy.
After a few minutes, screen goes blank.
I set a screensaver of my Gnome desktop to 2 hours, no effect.
Power manager sliders have exactly to positions: 2 hours 1 minute and never, neither one has any effect on this.
I said 'xset dpms force on', no effect.
Even when I try to watch a movie with mplayer, screen still goes blank after a few minutes (usually mplayer inhibits this kind of stuff).
Now, I find it really hard to believe that this could be any hardware issue, after all, if video card or display would be faulty, I would probably either get a picture on the screen or don't get a picture on the screen, not some unwanted screen suspend every few minutes.
So I have to assume it's a software thing. Kernel doesn't seem very likely to be the guilty one, so I guess it is that steaming pile of crap we know as xorg-server, which got upgrade from 1.6.1 to 1.6.1.901 (sounds like wannabe-1.6.2), to be take the blame here.
There is no 1.6.1 package in the cache or in any repos I checked, so hard to downgrade. Of course I could hack some pkgbuild from AUR and install that, but somebody told me that I would probably also have to compile drivers against that so if that's correct (is it?), then I would consider that as a last option.
    Any ideas?

  • 'Some images are missing because they were deleted from the document'

    Hi,
I created a document in Pages v5.2 last week and have just opened it and received the following message:
'Some images are missing because they were deleted from the document'
When I try and replace the missing images I get the following message:
'The image "filename" couldn't be inserted.'
When I try and reimport the original image I get the following message:
'The image "filename" couldn't be inserted. This image is of an unsupported type.'
If I try and insert an image that was not in the document before, in the same file format, it goes in fine.
If I insert the original image into a blank Pages document it goes in no problem.
I would also like to point out that the data folder still contains lots of versions of images in the document, but does not seem to have any of the ones I am actually using, which I guess is where the problem is. However I have no idea how or why these specific images have been deleted.
Any light on how this problem has come about, and the best possible way to fix it would be greatly appreciated.
    Alex

I have Pages v5.2.2 on OS X 10.9.4. I can not reproduce your stated issues with images in this version of Pages. I don't have a solution for you. See my test in the third paragraph. If I were experiencing this behavior, I would perform a Safe Boot to clear out System caches, and try again, before kicking Pages v5+ to the curb.
The Safe Boot would be pressing and holding the shift key at boot chime, and until a horizontal progress bar shows on the screen. At the eventual login screen, after you type your password — press and hold the shift key — press the right arrow to login, and release the shift key after the Finder menu bar appears. Then reboot normally.
I have created a new document. Dragged and dropped an image into it and saved. Exited Pages. Reopening worked fine. Deleted the image, and proceeded through the following steps, punctuated by save, exit, reopen, and deliberate image removal. Different .jpg image each time. About mid-way through the following item list, I rebooted the MBA just to throw some "spin" into the process. I did not perform a Safe Boot prior to this series of tests.
    Toolbar > Media insert
Insert > Choose jpg into document
    Text Box image fill
    Shape image fill

  • How can i get back the adobe creative cloud shared folder after I deleting it?

How can i get back the adobe creative cloud shared folder after I deleting it?

I think Adobe pulled the Creative Connect Desktop app until the new CC release next month. I just built a new PC and noticed it wasn't available in the app manager any more. On my other machines it isn't working anyway. In another post Adobe devs said they new it was down because thay were working out some server issues. It looks like they couldn't resolve them.
I bought into the CC right from the beginning since I never buy my software outright but rather use a credit card. I thought that getting the whole master suite for $30 a month interest free was a great deal. Having all the software has been great, but it was over a year before we even saw a desktop syncing folder and noe it seens as though we are going to have server problems every time they upgrade the cloud leaving us to have to use the cluncky web interface during these sync blackouts.
I can tell you Adobe better get it together cause ther starting to p*ss off a lot of loyal customers. It feels like were dealing with a cellphone company who only gives deals to the new customers and once you've signed the contract your screwed.
