Somehow, AOL toolbar got installed on latest Firefox. How to I get rid of it permanently?

Hiding this toolbar only works as long as Firefox is active. If I close Firefox and relaunch it, this stupid AOL toolbar reappears. How do I dump it for good?

Start Firefox in <u>[[Safe Mode|Safe Mode]]</u> to check if one of the extensions (Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance).
*Do NOT click the Reset button on the Safe mode start window or otherwise make changes.

Sometimes a problem with Firefox may be a result of malware installed on your computer, that you may not be aware of.

  • AOL HAS GRABBED FIREFOX, HOW DO i GET RID OF IT?

I down loaded a PDF reader which turned out to be from AOL and AOL grabbed Firefox. I am left with the AOL search engine and Firefox is minimized in the top left hand corner of the screen. I have tried deleting Firefox and reloading. But the same thing occurs. I use AVG maintenance to take care of my PC but this doesn't get rid of AOL. Can you help?

The Reset Firefox feature can fix many issues by restoring Firefox to its factory default state while saving your essential information.
Note: ''This will cause you to lose any Extensions, Open websites, and some Preferences.''
To Reset Firefox do the following:
#Go to Firefox > Help > Troubleshooting Information.
    #Click the "Reset Firefox" button.
#Firefox will close and reset. After Firefox is done, it will show a window with the information that is imported. Click Finish.
#Firefox will open with all factory defaults applied.

  • Why do I now have a Yahoo toolbar after the last update and how do I get rid of it? Also, get rid of the popup asking me if I want to change my homepage?

About a week or so ago, I received the familiar pop-up message asking if I wanted to update Firefox. I said yes but since then I have acquired a Yahoo toolbar (I never use Yahoo but don't know how to get rid of the damn thing). Also I am now getting a pop-up box asking if I want to change my home page. How do I stop this as well?

Tap the bookmarks icon in Safari (looks like an open book), then tap "Favorites".  Edit the second row out of there.

  • A square with numbers stay on screen and in a document using Firefox, how do I get rid of those? THANKS

"A fresh ramp up on your bottom line is establishing an online business from home11, easy to start,..."
Have a look on the second line ''"business from ''home11''
This is actually a link to a website and an extract form an article I wrote. No matter what I do can I get rid of that ....11 after home. On my website http://www.WomensOnlineBusiness.com/five-fundamental-steps.html on the left sidebar buttons I have the same problem and a lot of other places. Weirdly enough not on the home page, but on all the other pages where I have the sidebuttons.
I have not been able to figure out how to get rid of these numbers - think-just guessing- it has something to do with the add-ons but in that case don't know which one.
If anybody can help me out here that would be great, as I like Firefox a lot and would hate to leave it.
    Hoping for the best
    PIA

I can't make out from your low-res screenshot what those gray images in the menu at the left are, but I do not see them and there is nothing int the page source that accounts for them.

  • When I delete a tab, next time I open Firefox it is back! I deleted it from Bookmards - How do I get rid of it permanently?

I have two tabs that I want to delete. I went to Show All Bookmarks, selected them on the list, held down the command key, clicked on Organize and deleted them. I exited Firefox. When I opened it again, the tabs that I had deleted in my Bookmarks were still there. If I clice the "x" on the tab, it disappears, but is there again when I re-enter Firefox.
How can I permanently get rid of them!!?

It might have gotten added to your "home page" setting -- you can have multiple home page URLs that open in separate tabs. This article has the steps to investigate that possibility or to clear your home page and set it from scratch: [[How to set the home page]]. Does that work?

Here is the sequence for FF 7.1 (W7-HP) :<br />
Note: You should, first, Uninstall the Babylon program with Control Panel or, I think, it will just re-infect FF.<br />
    1) Show the FF Toolbar (I hide mine) and select 'Tool"<br />
    2) Select 'Add-ons'<br />
    3) Select 'Extensions'<br />
    4) A list of extensions will appear;<br />
(On mine, Babylon was right at the top)<br />
Look for Babylon Toolbar; at the right will be two options:<br />
    Disable Remove<br />
    5) Click on 'Remove'; close the tabs and exit FF (restart FF).<br />

  • Firefox conintually creates a folder in my cache that is 60MB. It's titled e3xuyg2m.default. How can I get rid of it permanently?

''locking this thread as duplicate, please continue at [https://support.mozilla.org/questions/992841 /questions/992841]''
I've noticed a folder is created and I have no clue what it's for. All I know is that it is created in the C:\Users\[My Computer Name]\AppData\Local\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\e3xuyg2m.default and it's bulky, 60MB! It's creating a number of files within the cache folder. I have tried to remove it using CCleaner, but no permanent solution. This does not happen on my other computers, only my laptop. Therefore I'm coming to the conclusion it's not a necessary file. Is it malicious? How can I permanently remove it? Aside from being questionable, it's weighing down my computer.
    Thanks in advance!

hello tomterrimort, if your manual changes don't 'stick' after a restart of the browser, please look out for any suspicious extensions (like 3rd-party-toolbars or things you have not installed intentionally) presently installed under '''firefox/tools > addons > extensions''' or the programs section of the windows control panel and remove those entries.
in case this doesn't solve the issue please try this: go to firefox > help > troubleshooting information > profile folder - "show folder", then a new window will open up. in this window look out for a file named '''user.js''' (it might be used to overwrite your custom settings). in case it is present , delete or rename this file and restart firefox afterwards.

  • Malawarebytes flags hkcu\software\conduit\ff which appears only after I have started Firefox; how do I get rid of?

Malawarebytes detects and flags the above and says it successfully removes. This appears to be true if I rerun a scan. However it continued to appear in later sessions. I finally think that I have tracked it down to firing up firefox. If I turn on my desktop and just run a scan, all is clean. I load firefox and run a scan and the pup is detected. I did in the past pick up the search facility Conduit but thought I had got rid; there is no outward sign other than the HKCU, and that was months ago.

Hi ibru, if you still have a Conduit-created "Community Toolbar" extension, those preferences will keep coming back. Make sure you've removed the extension.
