Somehow MSN wormed its way onto my desktop. I had & wish to continue with Google/Firefox as my home page. I tried to reload Firefox & it returns to MSN. Help me eliminate MSN.
MSN sucks......
Now they want to take over my homepage.
When I try to open Firefox, MSN opens. I now have no access to any bookmarks, saved passwords from Firefox. I now access my Gmail from IE. Much prefer Firefox. Tried resetting homepage and default browser, no avail.

You might look for third-party software for that, but there is no such option in OS X itself unless you drag the icon into the Dock.

When I open firefox at the start of a session the search engine 'CONDUIT' fires up.
I don't understand how this outfit has imposed itself on my system ... unless it's all part of a firefox utility upgrade?
If it is and I can't replace Conduit with Google UK ... then I'll move elsewhere.

You either don't have a SIM in the phone, which is required to activate it, or the phone was hacked to unlock it and is now a paper-weight.

Usually this error occurs when trying to downgrade the iOS or in a previously jailbroken phone. In this case, you cannot get help here. The internet and Google are your best friends.

I have a large external collection and would like to import a select folder to itunes to create a playlist. Is there a way to import the folder without mixing the contents with my large itunes library?

When I save a filtered photo from my iphone (filtered with "Tonal") onto my desktop into iPhoto, the filter dissappears and its saved as a standard color photo. Is there a reason why and way I can save it as is?
The reason is that Apple screwed up and despite threads for this issue dating back several months, there is no fix. It's outrageous -- a dozen or so photos that I just took got completely screwed up because of this. There isn't even a way to replicate the effects in iPhoto without major guesswork and tweaking.
I mean this isn't even something that should be an issue. How Apple thought that a user would want his filters to disappear is beyond me. I mean it's so absolutely counterintuitive that I'm baffled that such a destructive 'feature' could've made it through.
So much for Apple's quality control! They'll forever say it's intentional and part of the 'lossless' design where the effects aren't permanently applied, but there should be an option. Some users want their filters to stay when they take them.
In fact, ALL USERS WANT THE FILTERS TO STAY. -

Google, in their control frenzy, has now changed iGoogle to default to Tablet view on iPads. Why??? Here is one solution but it does not use Safari:

Answer:This issue is with the Tablet view. You can switch to Classic view at the bottom, but as soon as you type anything in the url bar you get reverted to Tablet. I have the Atomic Browser installed on my iPad and have set it to identify itself as a desktop. iGoogle loads fine on that. I am not aware of any such setting for Safari on the iPad.
Google fails to understand that we do not need sub featured pages for our tablets. Tablets work fine with the desktop versions. They have probably concluded that iGoogle pages are too busy for tablets and so have disabled it. Tablet search has been significantly degraded by Goggle with elimination of the pinch and zoom and cached features. It should be possible to make a sticky setting change to Classic view on tablets. Most other settings stick, but not the Classic view. I dont think Google get it anymore.
Is there a way to force Safari ,on an iPad, to do this?The website may alter its page display based on the browser ID that is transmitted to the site from your browser. Some browsers on the iPad like iCab allow you change the browser ID to something desktop-oriented. Safari does not provide this capability.

How do I recover a "complete" folder and place it back onto the desktop screen.
This has to be a common problem experienced by all Mac desktop users. I placed
an entire blue "file folder" (the common blue folders with tab) into the "trash" and
cannot take it out or delete it. I did it by accident because I wanted to "delete" a small
file, within the "entire blue folder". Apparently I put the "whole folder" in the "trash" instead
and now cannot take it out.
I have an exact copy on my desktop already, but I don't want to delete this folder that I
placed in the "trash". For now, I just want to recover it and put it back onto the desktop.
I don't mind having two copies for now.
To be extra clear, this is the usual blue "file folder" that contains "favorites", "shared", and "devices".
Within these are "all my files", "desktop", "your personal files", "applications", etc., etc.
Within these are "photos", "albums", "pictures", "video", and miscellaneous subsets of files.
This "entire" folder containing all these items are now in the trash.
I need to know a simple "step by step" process or instructions on how to take all this
out of the trash and to put it back on the desktop where I can see it on my computer screen
as a blue "file folder".
I'm not very computer knowledgeable except to use the internet and knowing how to use
data entry software.
So it would be important to explain to me "step by step". Any small detail left out and I might mess up.
I know there must be a simple way of doing this. All I see now is a pile of papers in the "trash" bin and
no way to get out my "file folder"

Thank you very much.You cannot take a folder out of the Trash to your Desktop without erasing the one on the Desktop. You need to first change the name of the folder on the Desktop. Or you can open the folder that's in the Trash and drag the files onto the Desktop assuming there aren't too many of them.
But if you have a duplicate on the Desktop why do you need to remove the one that's in the Trash?
If you feel you must take the folder out of the Trash, then you need to rename the duplicate that's on your Desktop.
If you wish to put the folder back where it was when you deleted it, then open the Trash window, select the folder, then CTRL- or RIGHT-click and select "Put Back" from the context menu. -
I had Leopard. I jumped to Mountain Lion. Sorry sorry sorry I did. Many things are stupidly difficult to do, minor tasks, that once were EASY.
I USED to be able to go onto a website, then DRAG AND DROP the ICON from it ONTO my desktop. NO MORE. Frankly, there is NOW no easy way that I've found ..........May I also say, Mountain Lion is one horrendous piece of ........##@@!!!. I gave my old iMac to a friend after upgrading it for her...with Mountain Lion. I wish to God I'd not tormented her with that OSX. I wish to God I'd not tormented myself with it on my own iMac.

When I now go to any website, I can only go on it by clicking FULL page. In other words, I can get to it by 2 ways, by putting it into the "google" bar, or by FULL screening to type in http....www....etc.
I am then in Full screen to access any website. THEN, I can no longer drag/drop the website's Icon to my desktop.......If I diminish, I lose the website. It may bring up the same site, but will not let me drag the site's icon ONTO my desktop to use in the future.
That seems to have disappeared with Mountain Lion. I was able to do it with ease on Leopard.
Repeat:
In Leopard, I would go to a website and could drag that website's icon ONTO my desktop. Period.
I am no longer able to do this with Mountain Lion.
If I try to drag anything, NOTHING happens OTHER than it replicates the page...it does not place an icon on my desktop to use in the future.

So I lost my iPhone 4 about 2/3yrs ago ,I got a replacement 4s though insurance at the time. Somehow my old iPhone 4 has made its way back to me a week ago how ever it has a lock code which I don't have any idea what it would be and it's also been registered to another Apple ID so it won't allow me to register it even though I am the rightfull owner. Two issues. As Rudegar says, there is nothing you can do to use the phone without the cooperation of whoever owns the Apple ID the phone is locked to.
The other issue is that since you got a replacement from your insurance company the found phone legally belongs to the insurance company. -

Apple IDs cannot be merged. You should use your preferred Apple ID from now on, but you can still access your purchased items such as music, movies, or software using your other Apple IDs.
