Somehow my itunes started a new library and I lost my old library. Itunes will not allow me to sync new music to my ipod without deleting stored music from ipod. How can I start using this new library and sync the new music without losing existing music.
Somehow my Itunes started a new music library and I lost the old library. Itunes will not allow me to sync new music from my computer to my Ipod because it is now in a different library. Itunes wants to delete all my Ipod music before sync any new music. How do I work around this. I think this happened during Itunes Upates.
Empty/corrupt library after upgrade/crash
Hopefully it's not been too long since you last upgraded iTunes, in fact if you get an empty/incomplete library immediately after upgrading then with the following steps you shouldn't lose a thing or need to do any further housekeeping. In the Previous iTunes Libraries folder should be a number of dated iTunes Library files. Take the most recent of these and copy it into the iTunes folder. Rename iTunes Library.itl as iTunes Library (Corrupt).itl and then rename the restored file as iTunes Library.itl. Start iTunes. Should all be good, bar any recent additions to or deletions from your library.
See iTunes Folder Watch for a tool to catch up with any changes since the backup file was created.
When you get it all working make a backup!
Should you be in the unfortunate position where you are no longer able to access your original library, or a backup of it, then see Recover your iTunes library from your iPod or iOS device.

The best way to stop it is to get rid of the obsolete font. Palatino 3.8 from 2006 should normally also be present as part of iLife/iWork and it works correctly.

thanksI understood your question perfectly and the answer is absolutely yes. When you change the iMac into target display mode you underlying operating system continues to run all existing applications. For example in my case if I finished editing some video and am about to enter a lengthy render process or something which may draw lots of resources like hand real, I set it to start on the iMac and then switch it to target display mode to use it as a monitor with my MacBook air in the meantime.
Only one small caveat in your case though. Since the target display mode is a feature of OSX (eg the OS interprets the special key stroke and changes the iMac into target display mode) you should make sure Lion server supports the target display mode feature. I don't see a reason why it wouldn't but that's the only thing currently crossing my mind. Keep in mind the compatibilities between ports as noted in my blog. If any of your machines have mini display port and you intend to connect the new iMac in target display mode you will run into issues. In that special scenario, I recommend buying a refurb iMac from 2010 which urtilize the displayport allowing you to use it as a display for all your macs -- those with thunderbolt as well as those with displayport. If you have thunderbolts then definitely go with the thunderbolt iMac. -

Thanks Carolyn. Unfortunately, this didn't work. It turned out to be in my display monitor as I have my computer wired to my tv for streaming. Once I changed the monitor display it worked fine. Go figure

The application ITunes presumes that the information, data, music, etc in its database is the correct master. In doing so, it will overwrite and replace any information previously on the phone. You probably will want to transfer the iTunes data directory from it's original location (presumably the system yoiu used to sync with your iPhone previously), the the new system.
If your iPhone has data from a different Apple ID, than the ID you will use on the new notebook, then be prepared to lose the data on the phone if you sync. It's meant to work that way. -

This issue can be caused by an old bitmap version of the Helvetica or Geneva font or (bitmap) fonts that Firefox can't display in that size.
Firefox can't display some old bitmap fonts in a larger size and displays gibberish instead.
You can test that by zooming out (View > Zoom > Zoom Out, Ctrl -) to make the text smaller.
Uninstall (remove) all variants of that not working font to make Firefox use another font or see if you can find a True type version that doesn't show the problem.
There have also been fonts with a Chinese name reported that identify themselves as Helvetica, so check that as well.
Use this test to see if the Helvetica font is causing it (Copy & Paste the code in the location bar and press Enter):

Contacts should be configured to sync with an app on your computer. You set this up in iTunes on the Info tab with the iPhone connected. You will not lose any contacts if the app on your computer has at least one contact. -

Backup the device to the new installation
Transfer your purchases into a newly authorized library
Recover any other media using third party tools as suggested in this post
Restore the device from the backup
This process should switch the association of the device to the new library, preserving the data and settings in your apps.
May also be prudent to attempt a backup to iCloud directly from the device before you start... Settings > iCloud > Storage & Backup > iCloud Backup > On. It won't save any media but it would preserve the general account settings and documents in case anything goes wrong while you are trying to extract your other data.
When you get it all fixed, make a backup!

I hate this new Photos garbage. When I try to post new pics to my friends it brings up the old iPhoto selection screen, and of course my new photos, are in the New Photos area, and it won't allow you to choose them, unless I want to use the cloud. I don't want to use the cloud. I want to do it the way we always used to be able to do it. So can you show me how to go back to a restore point, before that last unless update, so I can get rid of it.
Thank you for your time.When I had Photos issues I was able to find the old pre-upgrade photo library using finder in the same location as the new library and used the open with option and chose iPhoto.

Also, all I did this morning was update the firmware my Z2 based on the email I got from Sony Support and an alert from the Update Centre. I used the PC companion which also alerted to be updated before the download of the firmware began, which I did too. After the successful update, the phone restarted and used it normally.
Then until the notif told me that my storage is more than 75% full, and prompted to transfer files, which I do all the time by the way, but this time, this error occured. -
How can i backup using only a part of my HD(new to mac)
I have an external 250GB hard drive and i want to use time machine but heres the thing... I basickly save all of my media like photos, muvies, music, ect. ect. there and i'm worring that if I use that HD for time machine, time machine will erase all of my media so it can use the HD for backup. Hmmm. I'm going to agree with -(.)^(.)- on this one, but for additional reasons. Time Machine requires external storage space for backups that amounts to at least twice as much space as needed for the initial backup. Pay particular attention to the "at least" part in my statement above.
If we assume that you have somewhere around 60 or 80 GBs of data on your Macbook, this means that Time Machine needs at least just under 200 GBs of storage space for backups. With a 250 GB external drive, you're only going to have about 240 GBs to use, so this leaves only 40 or so GBs for your "media" that already exists on that drive. Are you using this much, something less, or more than this right now?
All this said, you can give Time Machine just a portion of any external drive you might have. The key to this is to partition the external drive, leaving one volume for Time Machine's use, and another for your own. Time Machine can and will make a backups of both your Macbook's internal hard drive, and either the secondary volume on the same external drive or any volumes on other external drives that happen to be connected when the backup is made.
Still, a better solution would be to have another dedicated drive for Time Machine's use, preferably a larger one.
