Someone has to have an answer

I posted this last night and still have heard nothing back. I'm really at a loss and whenever I call apple I keep getting sent around in loops. Here is the post again and if anyone has any idea please let me know. Thank you. Last night I also tried port 110, 995 and 295...still nothing. Can't send at all, but I do receive mail alright.
Okay I'm sorry for posting this, I think it has come up quite a bit but I can't figure it out. I've searched discussions and have tried different things that people have said and all to no avail. When sending a message from Mail using my .Mac account it says constantly that the server on port 25 has timed out and I can't send anything. I've tried changing to port 587 and it then puts my account offline so I switch back to port 25 and it works. Well it works until I close my Mail app. and then re-open it. Then I have to go through the whole ordeal again! If apple created both the .Mac accounts and the Mail app then why doesn't this work!! I would love any help.

There are two places where you specify the port settings. One is on the receive side (where you seem to have no problems) and the other is on the send side. It just so happens, that the sending side is particularly difficult to setup. There is actually another level of accounts on the sending side.
Say you have 3 accounts setup, each with receive port. You've had some problem sending mail so you've tried a few different sending ports. You may very well have 7 different "sending accounts" setup. You may have 21 possible e-mail configurations.
In your main account setup, click the pop-up menu where you set the sending account information. The last option should allow you to edit the sending accounts. Select that and clean out all your sending accounts. Create one sending account for each receiving account, using the correct port 25 or 587, whichever one works. Then, in the main account window, setup each account to use the newly created, good sending account. That should do it.
