Someone registered an Apple ID with my email address

Someone just bought a new iPhone 6 Plus and has registered a new Apple ID using my gmail address (my Apple ID uses a different email address).  I'm sure they just typed something in the boxes so they could continue with the device setup and we just happen to have the same name.  However, I've gotten a few email from his actions (resetting the password, turning off Find My iPhone etc).  I'd rather not be getting these email.
I recovered the password on the account (since I have access to the email address he used) and tried to set a reminder and a calendar event for him (with a note to please create a new Apple ID) but I don't think he has iCloud syncing setup for his calendar and reminders, so I don't think he got the messages.  A couple of days later I got another email when he recovered the account password.  I also tried Messages from my iPad to contact him, but it doesn't look like he's gotten things setup yet as Message does't recognize the email as a valid Message account.
Any suggestions on what my next steps are?
Thanks!

I received a phishing mail today from a fake id.apple.com account. It was sent to my work email, which I do not use as an Apple ID. But I got curious and found out that my work email indeed IS in use as an Apple ID.
I tried the "forgot your password" function and got a notice saying that Apple has sent a message to the email connected with that account. But I didn't receive it. Then I tried to answer the security questions, and it didn't accept my birth date.
So, SOMEONE has opened an Apple account with my work email (which features my full name), but all mail traffic is rerouted to another email account.
How can I stop them from using my name/email?

  • Help! someone registered I-Tunes account with my email address!

I recently bought an IPhone! Yippee!
I am new to Itunes, and registered for a new account. I-Tunes pop up said that my email address was already in the system, and asked me if it was me (my email address).
So I clicked "forgot my password" thinking that my husband may have set up an account for us.
I reset my password, and found an app that I wanted (free) and downloaded the app and tried to sync my phone. The app loaded on Itunes, but would not sync with my phone.
So, I went to "my account" and there was someone else's name, contact info and credit card info on linked to my email address.
Anyone know how this is possible?
I contacted my internet provider, and they could not find any other name listed under my address.
Fortunately, I am an honest person, but am a littel freaked out at how I could access this man's account by accident.
We have the same last name and first initial, and he lives in another state.
Can anyone tell me how this happened?
I write this here tonight because I would like to get this straightened out as soon as possible, and could not call support as they are not open until tomorrow morning.
I would appreciate any help , and thank you in advance for your time with this matter.
Hope to hear from someone soon,
    Rhonnie

Possibly it is something nefarious, but more likely he simply mistyped the info. Since your names are similar, by any chance are the email addresses similar?
Depending how this shakes out, you and he could be causing confusion for each other on a regular basis. Since you have barely started using your account, there is not much downside for you start a new account with a different email address. Redownload the one free app on the new account, and forget about the old account.

  • I never had an APPLE ID with this email address and I have no idea why this is this showing to me?

Every time I restore my iPhone from iCloud Backup, this apple id SHOWS UP  and asking password. But I never had an APPLE ID with this email address and I have no idea why this is this showing to me? Could anyone help me to remove it from my Applr ID as it seems somehow its linked to my iCloud Backup. Thank you.

    Hi Ralph,
I have received the iPhone 5s from my carrier EE UK. I never had a second hand device as all my previous iPhones received from my carrier. Every time I restore from iCloud backup, first I enter my Apple ID and Password, then it authenticates and goes through next process and updates iCloud settings, right after initial settings then it displayes enter your password where the Apple ID is the metntioned Apple ID and in the bottom it says "Skip this to go next process" or something. I have to press that everytime to skip it, then restore my backup from iCloud and then when I'm in iPhone home it asks me for the password of that mentoned email. So everytime I change the email address to my Apple ID then enter my password that activates my iCloud services and start downloading all the apps I installed.
Its really weird to be honest and I don't know how to remove that email address from that process and seems its there.
N.B. When I had iPhone 4s, Apple Store did replace my iPhone 4s with a new one due to the faulty WiFi.

You might want to try contacting Apple for assistance by going to https://expresslane.apple.com, then click See All Products and Services>iTunes>iTunes Store>Passwords & Security Questions>Lost or Forgotten Apple ID password.  They should be able to explain what's going on and help you reset the password for the old ID if necessary.  The call should be free.

I am having trouble with my Apple ID and AppStore
Here are the steps I have taken and the results:
Changed my Apple ID with new email address.
Changed my iCloud with above new email address.
NOW - Apple ID appears correct in AppStore Settings, iCloud and AppStore*
If I scroll to bottom of screen in *App Store/Featured, I can see that the Apple ID is my new email.
Upon “updating” Apple ID reflects OLD email.
    Deleted accounts, re-added accounts.
Signed out and signed in with new UN/Email
    Issue remains the same.

To migrate your data to a new iCloud account go to Settings>iCloud and turn off all synced data (contacts, calendars, etc.), when prompted choose to keep the data on your phone.  After everything is set to off, scroll to the bottom and tap Delete Account.  Next, create the new iCloud account on your phone and turn on syncing for contacts, calendars, etc again.  If prompted, choose Merge.  This will upload your data to the new iCloud account.

  • How to create a shared Apple ID with iCloud email address for household?

I would like to create a shared Apple ID with iCloud email address that wife and I can share and access from separate devices? A shared household iCloud email address would be useful for email contact for creating/managing bill accounts for utilities, school for kids, bill pay etc…  I currently have my own Apple ID on my MBP.
    Thanks!
    dlaron

If you mean that you would like to create a shared iCloud account with a shared iCloud email address and you already have an iCloud account of your own, you can do that by creating a new Apple ID (see https://appleid.apple.com/account), then use the ID to set up a secondary iCloud account on your Mac by going to System Preferences>Internet Accounts (or Mail,Contacts,Calendars)>iCloud and signing in with the new ID.  You can then turn enable Mail in this account to create the shared email account.  Secondary accounts are more limited than primary iCloud accounts, and will only sync Mail, Contacts, Calendars, Reminders and Notes.
Once the account is created, it can be added to iOS devices by signing in with the ID in Settings>Mail,Contacts,Calendars>Add Account>iCloud.
Or, if your only interest is in having a shared email account, you might consider just setting up a free Gmail account to share.

  • Apple ID with Expired Email address and no password

I recently purchased a new macbook pro. For the past few years i have been using a me.com Apple ID. But prior to that, like 15 years ago, I had an account with eartlink.net as the email address in the ID. I no longer have an account with earthlink.  When I went to sync my new computer with my iPad, I was asked for the password to this account in order to authorize the computer to play music under this ID.  It has been so long ago that now I no longer remember the password. I tried to get it sent to me, but of course, they want to email to the defunct email address.  The other way is security questions, but of course, I did not think it was any of their business what my birthday was 15 years ago, so I entered a fake birthdate.  SO.... now there is no way for me to access this account and authorize the computer.
I will withhold any comments about multiple Apple IDS and not being able to change or merge them, but certainly in this day of software genius, they should have thought of a better way to deal with this.
Anyone have any ideas of how I can get in to the account to authorize it?
    Thanks
    Charlie

As I understand it you have an "orphaned" Apple ID that has not been used in years, whose email address no longer exists or is otherwise inaccessible, and you don't remember your fake birthday. Is that correct?
Anyone have any ideas of how I can get in to the account to authorize it?
If you ever bought anything from the Apple Online Store using that Apple ID... maybe.
    Go there: Apple Online Store
    Click this:
One of the options that appears next will enable you to check the status of an order, even one that was placed ten years ago. Fifteen, I'm not so sure, but I know their order status history encompasses more than ten years. You will need to find an option that does not require that Apple ID and password combination.
Once you reach the order status page you will see that "orphaned" Apple ID and the email address that no longer viable - they are separate, even though they may be identical.
Opposite Account Information there will be a blue Edit button, which you can use to edit the email address associated with that Apple ID.
Don't attempt to change the Apple ID there, but change the email address associated with it to a viable email address.
You will then be able to use that email address for the reset instructions that will be sent upon requesting to have that Apple ID password reset, using the instructions here:

  • Somebody created an Apple ID with my email address!

    Hi all!
I've received a few emails from Apple: the first one was asking me to verify my email address, the subsequent ones informed me that someone was accessing iCloud, FaceTime and iMessage from an iPhone 4s, using my Apple ID.
After a few minutes, another email asked me to reset my Apple ID password, and I immediately did.
then the first thing I did was to register to the support community to seek for help.
I'm not biased against Apple, but:
    - I don't own any Apple device, and don't actually plan to buy any.
    - I don't need an Apple ID, since I don't use any of the services for which it is required (at least so far).
On the other hand, I don't want my ID to be suspended, since I don't know if I will ever need one, in the future (afaik, you cannot reuse an email address to create an ID once it has already been used to create another account).
My understanding is that someone has bought his first Apple product and then has erroneously inserted *my* email address while creating his (mine, in fact!)  Apple ID.
    My questions is:
Is changing the password enough for me to be sure that noone else can use my ID? Or is there anything else that I can/must/should do?
    thanks in advance!

    Welcome to the Apple community.
Contact AppleCare (or Apple ID Support), upon speaking to an operator you should explain that your problem is related to your Apple ID, this way you will not be charged for assistance, even if you don’t have an AppleCare plan.

  • Multiple Apple IDs with one email address?

I want to set up an iTunes account for my son in order to keep his music and apps separate from mine.  But I want to keep it under my email address and credit card.  Can you have more than one iTunes account on one email address?  If so, do I just create an Apple ID that isn't an email address?
Thanks in advance for your help.
    -Brian

This forum is for questions from those managing sites on iTunes U, Apple's service for colleges and universities to post educational material in the iTunes Store. You'll be most likely to get help with this issue if you ask in the general iTunes for Mac forums.
Answering quickly, though, to the best of my knowledge you cannot create an Apple ID using the same email address you used to create a previous ID. You'll need a separate email for your son, at least initially. You can then change the email to which receipts, etc. are sent and make it yours, if you wish.
    Regards.

  • Creating new apple id with old email address

Our old G5 has crashed and burned, we just bought a new 27" Imac and are trying to register it but It's been so long that I dont remember the apple id. When I try to start from scratch and create a new id it keeps telling me the email address is already in use.
If I request the lost id sent to me via email, it wont work because the computer where the email resides can't connect to the internet. If I try to answer security questions it tells me the birthdate doesn't match their records ( I don't know how that could be)
    I'm at a total standstill
    Any ideas??

Using your new Mac, conect to the internet.
Log into your email using a web browser to read the Apple reset email.

  • HT5622 I am trying to update the apps on my MacBook with my Apple ID, the one I created long ago when I got my first iPhone. Although when I first got my new MacBook I created a new apple ID with a email address I hardly ever use, and a password I can't r

Yes, well I ignoratly created a second Apple ID when first setting up my MacBook, and when I go to the "My Purchases" in my Mac App Store, and it shows the apps I've uninstalled, and the apps that are available to update. When I tap on the update icon/text I get a drop down notice, telling me that I have other apps that can be updated using the Apple ID I used to purchase the *apps* in Mac App Store. As far as I am aware  I have only used ONE  Apple ID to purchase Mac Apps, iPhone Apps, and iTunes. I have tried MANY, MANY times to find my second Apple ID. I've gone through and used every email address I making sure non of them were my second Apple Id's . SO is there anyway that I can update my apps using my main apple ID?
    Best Regards,
    Anna Grace Y.

What are the names of the apps?
So you are saying that you only ever used the old Apple ID to buy content on the iPhone and the Mac? You never used the new Apple ID to buy content for the Mac?

  • How do I set up another Apple ID with same email address so that my daughter can use game center with her own account?

We have two Ipods and an Iphone.  We usually just use my Apple ID for everything on each device.  However, when downloading games to the game center, we have to use my Apple Id and then it automatically sets up my game center username on my daughter's Ipod.  But she wants to play some of the same games that I do but she can't because my username keeps coming up.
How do I add another Apple ID to the same email address or create another user id for the game center?
    Thanks!
