Someone reversed the monitor settings -- help

A student reversed the monitor settings so the screen shows black with silver letters/graphics. I think they hit 3 keys that does this. Does anyone know the keys that let me reset the monitor back to the original settings?

Go to System preferences -> Universal Access (under System section). Click on the "Switch to Black On White" button.

    dovdov2,
are you saying that when you connect your MacBook Pro to a monitor, your Internet connection slows down, but when you disconnect the monitor, it speeds up again, and that this is reproducible from one day to another?
Does this happen both under OS X and under Windows 7, or only under one of them?
How are you currently connecting your MacBook Pro to your monitor?

  • Can someone explain the hyperthreading settings in cmos (the 4x,5x, etc.)?

Someone once said admitting you don't know something is the first step on the road to knowledge....or something like that
Can someone explain the hyperthreading setting in the CMOS Setup - mine is set to 5x, which I think is correct for my cpu - Venice 3500+, but I don't really know what it does.  What does that setting affect?  I think it was 4x by default, until I loaded optimal settings, and it went to 5x.....

    HT = Hyper Transport
    Q: What is HyperTransport™ technology?
A: HyperTransport™ technology is a new high speed, high performance point-to-point link for interconnecting integrated circuits on a motherboard. It can be significantly faster than a PCI bus for an equivalent number of pins. HyperTransport was previously codenamed Lightning Data Transport, or LDT. HyperTransport technology was invented by AMD and perfected with the help of several partners throughout the industry. It is primarily targeted for the IT and Telecomm industries, but any application where high speed, low latency and scalability is necessary can potentially take advantage of HyperTransport technology. HyperTransport technology was invented in order to unleash the tremendous power of the AMD microprocessors. HyperTransport is planned to bring the computation experience to a  new level.

  • Its not the monitor - plz help

Turned on my G5 1.8 this morning and my screen looked like this
changed monitors, same thing. The room the computer is in is very cold. It was about 30 to35 degrees in there. I left the computer on so far for about 3 hrs . I have not checked as I'm away from it.
    any help?

I had forgoteen I had Tech Tool Pro installed on the volume. Looking thru all the lines and distortion I was able to boot up TTP and ran a test. Everytrhing checked out except The VRAM Test, I had to print as could not see on the monitor it shows the following:
    Video RAM
    Failed
Video RAM, as all components of your video circuitry, must be fully functional for graphics to be properly displayed. Damaged VRAM can cause missing bits, screen noise, system lock ups, or freezes. TechTool Deluxe tests the VRAM on the Macintosh main logic board, as well as some third-party video cards.
If the VRAM test should fail, try these steps in order and run the test again after each step:
    o Quit all other applications.
    o Restart the system.
o Check any recently-added hardware for proper installation.
o Run the computer from another volume (if available).
    o Reinstall the OS.
    o Contact AppleCare.
I quit all other apps restarted - same result
booted from another volume - same result
To reinstall the OS to me would be pointless as I have another OSX bootable disk and when I tried to boot into that the screen was still distorted.
I will try to boot into the install cd. If I still have the same problem would the video card be the culprit?
I recently installed a dual layer replacement ata drive which has been working fine. Could this be the culprit?
I will put the old ata back and see.
    any other suggestions?

  • Boot Camp and QT updates messed up my monitor settings -- help!

The oddest thing happened after I allowed the updates of Boot Camp and Quicktime while running WinXP. My second monitor, which is an old 15" Apple Studio Display, went really dark, and I can't find a brightness control to fix it in WinXP. I now have to reset the brightness of the Apple monitor every time I boot natively in MacOSX as well.
Any ideas why this happened? Or how to fix it? The brightness control in WinXP is useless (it's an NVidia control panel) becase all it does is manage the relative brightness of the pixels; it does nothing to the actual brightness of the backlight. I read that there's supposed to be a brightness control tab in the Boot Camp control panel, but there isn't one.
This is a puzzling and frustrating dilemma. I hope someone out there can help. Aaaargh.

I have the same problem with controling the brightness of my external monitor ( Apple Cinema display) while running Windows
XP on my MacBook Pro. Did you already find a solution?
    Best regards. Robert

  • There is a bug (yes, insect) crawling around INSIDE the glass of the monitor. Help?

It's a tiny bug, but it's been there for three days now. It must be able to get in and out. I thought these monitors were air sealed!

Trip to the Apple store would be the best idea. Attempting to open the screen and cleaning him out yourself may not be the best idea. Some of the displays do have a cover that's held in by magnets but if you're not certain how to take it off then the store is definitely the best option.

  • Will someone from the UK please help with a security query?

    Hello
I've been subscribing to a facility which provides cheap telephone calls, since around 2004. Details may be found here:  http://www.call18866.co.uk
Last month my credit card was reissued for another three year period which, in turn, meant that previous financial commitments had to be renewed.
When I visit Call18866 to subscribe to my account I can, indeed, gain access to the secure areas, but I can see no 'https' nor a padlock when I use Safari as my browser!
I have also used Firefox, Chrome and SeaMonkey browsers to view the site - and they DO show 'https' and a padlock!
I'm wondering if the fault is with me or with the Call18866 wesite!
I should be most grateful if someone would use their Safari browser to check whether or not they can find a 'padlock' or an 'https' link at Call18866.
    Thanks.
    David B
PS  I have questioned Call18866 about this. They have simply said that their website is secure!

  • Monitor settings incorrect and can't get to system prefs to change them

    Hi,
I was experimenting with screen resolution settings and somehow came up with one that doesn't allow me to get to any finder controls or to the apple icon. So I can't use my computer.
    Help!

Thanks BD. And thanks for the welcome.
I couldn't get it to start in safe mode no matter when I depressed and released the shift key. I realized that the computer is behaving as if it has 2 monitors, which is what it had when I made the mess. I tried detect displays to no avail. BUT I logged out and signed in as another user and no problem! Thus, the monitor settings must somehow be a function of a users prefs. The upshot is that I can now use the computer albeit as a different user. A potential problem may be that the original (screwed up monitor) user is the administrator. My problem is no longer so critical, though and I really appreciate the help.

  • I've connected my external monitor (LG) to my new Macbook Pro 15" laptop, using the adaptor for VGA...the display now has a large black bar along the left side.  No adjustment on the monitor will fix it, no "options" on System Prefs either...any ideas?

I've just purchased a new Macbook Pro, and connected it ot my external monitor (24" LG HD) using an Apple VGA adaptor.  The only resolution that looks good is the 1920 x 1080, but the image does not entirely fill the screen.  There is a large black gap on the left side of the screen now.  It worked fine with my "last generation" Macbook Pro...no adjustment on the monitor will help, and cannot find any System Setting in displays such as "options" or widescreen setting.  I've gone to the LG site, but no "Mac" related tech support issues come up...no forum here seems to deal with this particular issue either...any ideas?

I have the same thing but with a 23 inch HP, worked fine with my MBP 13 from 2009 but the 2011 2.4 i5 does the exact same thing as yours!
Very confused and hoping that some one else can help.
    Thanks

  • How do you change the light settings in Nokia C3

The light is too bright and I don't know how to change the light settings  Help me please!

It would be very useful to have this feature, but it's a fixed setting in many Series 40 phones. You cannot change brightness on the C3.

  • After installing V.10, mmonitor settings were changed and I can't change them back. What can I do to get the higher settings back?

I use an external monitor (Acer) with my netbook (Asus). This morning before FireFox upgraded to V.10 my monitor settings gave me small typefaces on the monitor, I don't remember what the machine type was in the Windows control panel for display. Now after I restarted the machine, the Control Panel setting for the monitor is showing only the Mobile setting and the display if huge and I can't change the monitor settings. I'm feeling very mad right now. After the V.10 upgrade, Mozilla also said some software wasn't working or compatible with V.10, but I didn't note what they were. I just want to be able to get my older settings back and not have the huge icons, typeface, etc.

Note: based on another thread, you might also need to remove a user.js file which Firefox reads at startup and uses to override the settings change you make in about:config or in the dialogs.
This article describes how to track that down: [[How to fix preferences that won't save]].

  • Make Nvidia-Settings monitor settings & PowerMizer stick

If i access the Nvidia-Settings program, i can configure the OpenGL and Antialiasing Settings however i wish and quit and they will permanently stick through every restart of the computer or x server.
However the "X Server Display Configuration" settings and "PowerMizer" settings, although they do apply for my current session after i change them, restarting X11 will reset them.
I want to set my two displays to clone and powermizer to performance mode.
I have both tried the "Save to X Configuration File" button in the display section and saved it to a file in xorg.conf.d/ and i also tried going to the nvidia-settings Configuration and using the "Save Current Configuration" on the default path/filename for my user (rather than root(
Nothing i've tried seems to work. What am i doing wrong or just not doing?
My window manager is a plain openbox-session.

    nvidia-settings -l
seems to do precisely nothing, and to my understanding when the drivers load (when X runs) the drivers should load the "~/.nvidia-settings-rc" which is created when i use the "Save Current Configuration" button if one exists (if not i assume it just uses some default settings). Also to my understanding "nvidia-settings -l" is just meant to load exactly that file again.
whether it actually does that successfully or not i have not tested, but the file does not include the monitor settings when i save it and i assume it doesn't contain the PowerMizer settings either since that also doesn't stick.
i seem to require a xorg.conf or a xorg.conf.d/file file with at leastthese contents to run X with the nvidia drivers. Last i checked anyways which was probably a few months back.
    Section "Device"
    Identifier "Whatever"
    Driver "nvidia"
    EndSection
For me .nvidia-settings-rc wasn't loaded by default. I had to write it into my .xinitrc, too.

My Ipad2 crushes everytime I try to enter to the email settings, Someone knows why and can help me? I need to change the email password!
I restored the ipad, but still not working.

    Try:
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Go to Settings>Store (or iTunes and App Stores) and sign out and sign back in.
    - Reset all settings
Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.
    - Restore from backup. See:
    iOS: How to back up
    - Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.
