- If you previously turned on FIndMyiPod/iPhone/iPad on the iOS device in Settings>iCloud and wifi is on and connected or cellular data is on and connected for, on a computer browser go to iCloud: Find My iPhone, sign in and go to FIndMyiPhone. To delete your iCloud account from Settings>iCloud they have to enter your ID password.
The can place the iPod in Recovery mode and they restore the iPod but they will have to enter your iCloud ID and PW to activate the iPod.

iTunes no longer recognizes my iPod nano 5th gen. When plugged into macbook usb it appears as my iPhone. Previously both devices had individual identities. Have reset iPod and turned macbook off/on.

Place the iOS device in Recovery Mode and then connect to your computer and restore via iTunes. The iPod will be erased.

Are you quite certain you are using the same Apple ID you used to register the iPod in My Support Profile? If there is a possibility you may have used another you may be able to determine which here:

Other than that you will have to rely upon your original order information, sales invoice, or similar documentation. If you bought it online from Apple these documents would have been emailed to you. I believe registering the iPod in My Support Profile will also. So, check your email archives if at all possible. Gmail and similar services have a long memory. -
