Someone used Firefox as a decompression bomb.( Firefox setup 3.6.6.exe
I have used Firefox several times in the past but it keeps getting hacked! the latest that has hit my computer is a Firefox Setup 3.6.6.exe "The file is a decompression bomb". Found by Avast anti-virous.
Do you see that file in Tools > Downloads?
Delete downloads.sqlite (plus downloads.rdf, if it exists) in the [http://kb.mozillazine.org/Profile_folder_-_Firefox Profile Folder]
See http://kb.mozillazine.org/Unable_to_save_or_download_files#Manually_delete_download_history
This can also be a problem with the file [http://kb.mozillazine.org/sessionstore.js sessionstore.js] and sessionstore.bak in the [http://kb.mozillazine.org/Profile_folder_-_Firefox Profile Folder]
Delete the files sessionstore.js and sessionstore.bak and any existing files sessionstore-##.js with a number in the left part of the name like sessionstore-1.js to prevent Firefox from restoring a previous session.

When I'm using the internet the firefox setup 3.6.8.exe keeps popping up asking me if I want to save the file. I tried installing it and it just installed Firefox again, afterwards when I opened up firefox it asked me if I wanted to save the file or not again.
You're welcome

The update was attempted automatically, I think. When it would not complete it said download and run the update manually. I did that. Every time I start Firefox the Firefox Setup 6.0.2.exe file is offered up to save.
* see [[firefox has just updated tab shows each time you start Firefox]]
Probably you have accidentally added the new page as an addition to your home pages, or Firefox is having problems with your settings; it may help to close down with the <br/> '''Firefox button -> []Exit'''; rather than just quitting the application. -
Firefox Setup 3.5.14.exe detected as a potential virus
The Firefox Setup 3.5.14.exe binary downloaded from releases.mozilla.org MD5 472e322e7d0f89f486a077ed68804d21 SHA-1 ec6a31412ae6f251f7a0621fb3190f9ebf6dbf18 is being detected as a virus by two products: ClamAV 0.96.2.0-git and SUPERAntiSpyware 4.40.0.1006.
I would appreciate it if Mozilla would verify the binary is clean and report them as false positives to the AV companies. This - http://mozilla.cdn.leaseweb.com/ - is a legitimate Mozilla download mirror web site.

Every time I open Firefox 4 a popup box keeps trying to get me to run setup again. The box always reads: "Opening Firefox Setup 4.0.1.exe, Binary File from...." followed by a link address, which is different every time. Recent addresses: http://mirror.umoss.org.......also http://mozilla.mirrors.tds.net....also http://mozilla.ussg.indiana.edu
and so on.
Help! Thanks!I am having the same problem and it seems to have just started (6/15/11). I have tried reloading the program several times and even the first release of the 4.o with no success. The same scenario also occurs when I click to open a new "tab" after the browser is already launched.

It is also possible that your anti-virus software is corrupting the downloaded files or otherwise interfering with downloading files by Firefox.<br />
Try to disable the real-time (live) scanning of files in your anti-virus software temporarily to see if that makes downloading work. -
I turned off my windows firewall and it still wouldn't let me download the setup.
I went back to the site and tried agasin to download Firfox setup 7.0.1 exe mozilla.mirror.nexicom.net and it looks like it is downloading and looks like it finishes it but says it can't be downloaded- retry button available but it doeasn't do any good to push it. I am using Windows Interent Explorer to download and I have tried using both Run and save to see if that makes a difference.

I'm running Windows Vista Service Pack 2 and Internet Explorer 9. Firefox downloads then stops with the message above. How can I resolve this. I really want to use Firefox
Tyler: It wasn't just Firefox but also other .exe files that I couldn't download in IE9. Not sure what happened, I used to be able to do this but some update must have killed this. I've had some weird problems for the past 3 days.
I just bypassed IE9 by using Google Chrome that I had installed. This ran the Firefox download and install with no problems. So I'm set.
I don't know what happened to my IE9 but I think I'll stick with Firefox for now.
Thank you -
This is the error message I receive when attempting to download/install Firefox 5
That was a great idea, and I thought it might work, but it didn't. I turned off the Windows Firewall and tried downloading/installing and it seemed to work as it had me restart computer but my Secunia PSI still said it errored. Any other suggestions?
The strange thing is I have Firefox 5 web page and it seems to work as 4 did. I also checked the control panel and Firefox 5 was listed and not 4.
Thanks for your help -
I just got a new computer and am preparing my old computer to give to my nephew. The old machine runs system 7 and was running FF 7.0.1. I completely removed Firefox to erase all of my data. When I tried to reinstall Firefox, I began getting this error message.
chs55 wrote:
I have tried shutting down my anti-virus software, to include Windows Defender, but it didn't help. I am running the AVG free anti-virus.
But you still got the message? If so, you didn't get everything shut down. Something has to be giving you that message.
More than likely, it's a false-positive. Happens quite a bit with updates when the AV companies haven't caught up with their definitions.
If you didn't get the message after disabling all your AV stuff, what DID happen? -
Firefox setup 9.0.1 exe won't extract (cannot open output file)
I downloaded firefox 9.0.1 and it won't extract and install on a win7 computer. It says cannot open output file. I had previous versions of firefox for 10 years. I tried disabling AV and firewall also. Please help. Nate
Thank you! My solution was slightly different, but in the end, seeing what was going on in the Help menu in the browser did the trick. Turned out I had been stuck for who knows how long "downloading" a version 3! Also had a toolbar to disable but not the Ask.

Trying to download Firefox 7.0.1.exe for my IronKey. I click save but it does not allow me to type where to save it and I cannot find it once it is saved.
A possible cause is security software (firewall) that blocks or restricts Firefox or the plugin-container process without informing you, possibly after detecting changes (update) to the Firefox program.
Remove all rules for Firefox from the permissions list in the firewall and let your firewall ask again for permission to get full unrestricted access to internet for Firefox and the plugin-container process and the updater process.

Firefox Setup 9.0.1.exe will not run when I select as "Run As" option
I downloaded the update no problem. After I click "Run" after the "Do you want to run this file?" window, I get a prompt asking which user I want to run the file as. The only account on my computer is my own, and I am recognized as Administrator. No matter what option I choose, once I click "OK," absolutely nothing happens. The update extraction does not proceed.
-> Update Firefox to the latest version (9.0.1)
