So I was trying to think of some fun ways to get everyone together other than just grabbing a conference room or hanging out at a restaurant... I know that as IT pros, we are stereo-typically supposed to be uncoordinated geeks who always got picked last in gym class, but I was wondering if y'all would be interested in getting together at a park and playing some flag football, or softball, or maybe kickball? Good way to get some user-fed aggression out and meet some of your fellow B'more SpiceHeads?

Yep, same for me. Honestly, I don't understand why everyone doesn't use Home Sharing instead of iTunes Match on the AppleTV. The local LAN will always be faster and more stable.

Adobe Forums - it's going to look a little different next week

Easy explanation. He displayed both pages shortly each after, this is why under Konqueror there is one more posting. He is using Firefox as his primary browser I guess, therefore Konqueror has him not marked as logged in. Sorry if I didn't make myself clear. Prior to loading 1OS7 it was easy to force quit applications that were still open by double clicking and seeing an a red "x" you had to click on.
It doesn't work that way with the new operating system and the instructions that were given "Force-quitting apps is a little different though: Instead of tapping and holding on the icon, you flick a thumbnail up to dismiss it."
Do not work.

Thanks again for the message. I've done the updates and have the App Store on my desktop. I went into it and searched for imovie but couldn't find the basic imovie, which I presume is what I'd need for editing?, rather than imovie 11 for £10.49, which is for making trailers, it seems. Also, were you saying that imovie would be free?

Refferencing something in a different class?

hi im new to java and this has pretty much completely halted my progress, this is probably a pretty simple question but if someone could help me out i would really appreciate it
say i have
public class namething
     public String name;
     public namething(String playername)
          name = playername;
}and in another file i create instances of it

It actually can't find p1 or p2, as those were never defined and initialized in your class.
Game needs a method where you can set p1 and p2. Something like

}May I by the way suggest that you stick with the Java naming convention for classes, overall chose more descriptive names, and learn a little more about OO design, rather than Java coding?

when you discover a VM server OVM will assing it to a generic cpu-specific cpu-compatibility group. You can make that group visible in OVMM by configuring the UI to display the CPU-compatibility group. However, configuring those CPU compatibility groups is only available from the OVM CLI and not the WebUI, but it is actually possible to have two different CPUs in the same compatibility group and have HA and live migrations working.
It basically goes like this:
- logon to the Oracle VM Manager host using ssh or use a console session and perform something like this:
ssh -l admin -p 10000 127.0.0.1 "create CpuCompatibilityGroup name=some_group_name"
ssh -l admin -p 10000 127.0.0.1 "add Server oyour_vm_server to CpuCompatibilityGroup name=some_group_name"

Same old question, but a little different I think

I see that there are many, many questions about how to manage multiple computers and iPhones. To be honest, the answers leave me a little confused, as I have tried a couple of the suggestions and nothing has helped my specific situation. So I apologize if I'm being repetitive but please bear with me.
Until recently we had one desktop with one version of iTunes that had everyone's songs on it (we're a family of 4). In the last few months everyone has gotten iPhones, and my daughter just got a laptop, and this is where the confusion begins. Everyone used the main iTunes account to sync up with their devices, then we started creating new accounts and nobody can get what they need anymore.
It looks like currently all music and apps are on my wife's iTunes account. The rest of us have some smaller subsets based on what we were authorized to load back onto iTunes (desktop) after loading stuff from my wife's iTunes account. I think ideally what I would like to be able to do is have four separate iTunes accounts - each accessible from our individual desktop accounts (and my daughter's also from her laptop). I'd like to be able to take all the songs and apps from the main account & dole them out to who they belong to, then have each of our devices linked to our own iTunes account. So everything separate, BUT then I'd like to have the ability to share songs or apps between our accounts through directories when we want to.
Does any of this make sense? I don't know if our needs are realistic in general, if I need to back everything up and start from scratch, or how I do any of this. I feel kind of dense that I can't figure this out. Any help that can be offered would be greatly appreciated!

..yet another NoClassDefFoundError, though a little different

Ok, this java tool has been running for a year now in a production env... Just a few days ago I now get:
Error occurred during initialization of VM
java/lang/NoClassDefFoundError: java/lang/Object
I understand that I should use -cp or -classpath or set CLASSPATH pointing to application specific classes but this is complainng about java api extensions, and of course in 1.2 (I'm using 1.4) you do not have to point to the classes.jar file any more (never mind that it does not exist in 1.4 .) Also if I reinstall the jre it works for a night or so and then starts acting the same way. What gives? Any help is greatly appreciated.

More trouble with AVCHD (seems a little different from others though)

I am trying to "log and transfer" my video from a Canon Vixia HF200. The video is in AVCHD format. It pulls up in the browser of the Log/Transfer just fine. Then when i add a clip to the queue section the Status thing spins for a second then just freezes. It then says "1 clip queued - idle." where do i go from here? It never completes the task or gives an error until i try to click the pause button, only then does the little "!" symbol pop up. Does anyone know why this isn't working? or what i'm talking about? i'm trying to explain my problem as best i can.

I too have had Log and Capture issues importing AVCHD files from a Sony Produo Memory stick using a card reader. If the files are less than 4 minutes they import normally. If I try a file even as long as 6:49 m:s it seems to stop loading although the grey progress bar has progressed all the way across. The end result is the file is not transferred. and it is reported as idle. I have chosen the AIC and plain stereo preferences as I have referenced your ( Tom Wolsky's) book on FCE4. I am importing to a Capture Scratch disk on a fire wire external Western Digital 1 Terabyte HD. I even copied the entire Memory card successfully onto the WD HD as per the book but couldn't convert it with the Log and Capture process. I don't know what Perian is.-Joe

Does wake from sleep seem a little different in 10.5.6 from before?

I've noticed that wake from sleep seems a bit different than before. I use my MBP in closed-clamshell mode. Connected are the aluminum Apple keyboard, a Might Mouse (not wireless), and a 20" Apple Cinema Display.
What I've noticed is that upon waking, the backlight comes on (the screen is blank), then there's a slight delay, the display shows everything as it was before sleep, then it flashes blue (my background color) and refreshes, showing what I just saw. It's basically doing the same thing twice -- I guess it's being very sure to check to see whether a display was connected during sleep. There also wasn't the wakeup stage where the screen is dark but the backlight is obviously on.
Has anyone else noticed a change?

Hey guys I am new here but not new to macs. I have been using a mac for about 2 years now and when I saw the new Pro's I knew I had too have one. So far I haven't experienced any of the problems I keep hearing about in this forum which I'm glad. Unfortunately I am one of those guys who obsesses about the littlest things and can't let go until I find closure. That being said just about every issue that I have seen on this forum with the new MacBook Pro I have thoroughly checked mine to make sure it doesn't have it. So far so good. So yesterday I followed the update to 10.5.6 and everything seems find with the sleep accept the sleep light indictor doesn't seem to go out completely when sleeping. It dims to a very faint level but you can still see it. Is this a big deal or nothing to worry about?

Similar Wi Fi woes but a little different.

I don't have a physical router (I'm using the built in Airport on my iMac) but can't connect to anything over my iPhone G3's (or my first gen iPhone) Wi Fi. I have Airport turned on on my iMac and it says it's connected to Apple Network ##### and has the IP of 10.0.1.2.
My iPhone(s) join the network no problems and have similar IP's (different by 1 number). I've tried reseting the Network settings, renewing DHCP leases, typing new IP addresses etc. just about everything I can find on this discussion board (BTW, where did the search function go?) but nothing works. It seems like a lot of folks are having difficulty connecting via Wi Fi and maybe this is an Apple problem?
When I reset the network settings or "forget this network" the IP number changes to one that starts with a 169.XXX number but within a few minutes will change to the 10.0.1.X number.
Anyway, I thought I'd post here because it seems like most people experiencing Wi Fi issues are connecting through a router. No me, just my iMac. Anyone have any suggestions?

More info in the vain hope that someone can help. I bought and installed FileMagnet (an app that allows you to put and store files of different types on your iPhone) and it uses Wi Fi to transfer files. I turned Wi Fi back on and FileMagnet worked flawlessly. I then tried to access the iTunes store but I get the same message as before. I also installed Apple's Remote and that won't work either. When I try it says Connecting to Library but then states that it Could Not Find Library.

Video Chat issue... a little different.

Ok, so my friend gets a new Macbook Pro. We connect to video chat for the first time and it works perfectly. We quit the chat momentarily, and moments later we try to connect again and now we are getting errors related to error 8 I've been reading about. None of us have done any update. Is it just a general bug with iChat that's giving a lot of people the same problems?
I recall reading before about port forwarding, but I've seen different port numbers. Can someone help direct me to the 'correct' port forwarding options/numbers so that I may try to see if it helps me with my situation?
I find it odd that it will work one moment and never again afterwards.

First set the Quicktime setting, goto sys prefs/quicktime/streaming/streaming speed, set to 1.5mbps(dont use automatic)
In ichats prefs click on video and change bandwidth limit to NONE.
Restart iChat.

Accessing something from an different MacBooks Backup

I had a MacBook that I was doing time capsule backups for. When I got my new MacBook, I did not want to do a backup from that so I didn't But now I need something from one of the past back ups. I know it's there because the time capsule is showing only half of the space available but when I go into time machine it only lets me access the current MacBook backups. Is there a way to view and retrieve something from my other MacBooks backup?

If you didn't run Time Machine backups from the new MacBook why are there two backups on the TC?

A little different - Computer & Itunes not seeing IPOD Nano

I will try to make this as brief as possible... This is very frustrating.
Just got a nano - Am trying to install on my computer... Have installed a mini & a shuffle already with no problem.
The Nano is not being seen as an ipod. It is showing as an "Apple Ipod USB Device" and I get messages about not being able to update File J whenever I plug my ipod into my computer.
Neither my computer or my itunes is recognizing it. It worked once... and I was able to use the ipod updater one time to update my nano.. Now, when I try to use the updater to restore, it just tells me to plug my ipod in. It is already plugged in??!!!
I have tried apples recommended 5 steps, reset, used a different USB, restarted & updated the programs, uninstalled & reinstalled itunes & ipod (big pain), the only step I can't do is Restore.
I have 2 questions...
Is there a way to restore my ipod without the updater, or is there some other way for me to get my computer to recognize the new ipod. Still, if I plug in my mini, the computer & Itunes picks it right up, just not the nano...
What am I doing wrong. I don't have a laptop & I don't have "firewire"... and i have tried turning off all my antivirus stuff..>???
I am so frustrated, any help is welcome!!!

Thank you, and all the others, for supplying information on work arounds that may help all of us Nano owners to fix this significant problem. However, after spending more hours than I would like dealing with this issue, I would like to raise a couple of points. Hopefully, Apple will respond.
1) An owner should not be forced to reformat his iPod's hard drive when carefully following Apple's procedure for making software updates. Testing of the updater program to see if it worked correctly on the popular Nano series should have revealed that it would erase all the iPod's content and cause the device to become unusable?
2) What course should Nano owners follow in the future regarding iPod upgrades? Should we just ignore upgrade notifications or attempt the installation of the new software hoping that this time we will not be forced to re-initialize our iPods and reload our content?
This issue needs to be addressed. The iPod has been designed and marketed to be a very user friendly consumer product. This is one of the primary reasons it has become so successful. Updating it should not cause it to be turned into a complex device requiring the advice of computer technicians.

You might be able to use the new Elgato eyeTV Hybrid to do this via a composite/S-Video connection as it supports game consoles.
