  • Something called Babylon has attached to firefox - how do I get rid of it?

    It's called Babylon search but I'd rather use google - I hope it's not a virus.

    Here is the sequence for FF 7.1 (W7-HP) :<br />
    Note: You should, first, Uninstall the Babylon program with Control Panel or, I think, it will just re-infect FF.<br />
    1) Show the FF Toolbar (I hide mine) and select 'Tool"<br />
    2) Select 'Add-ons'<br />
    3) Select 'Extensions'<br />
    4) A list of extensions will appear;<br />
    (On mine, Babylon was right at the top)<br />
    Look for Babylon Toolbar; at the right will be two options:<br />
    Disable Remove<br />
    5) Click on 'Remove'; close the tabs and exit FF (restart FF).<br />
    6) The Babylon stuff should be gone.<br />
    Good luck, this was a real PITA.

  • PCPowerBoost has taken over FireFox; how can I remove it?

    When downloading Adobe Flash, I got a bundle of other stuff (unwanted). I was able to uninstall all but PCPowerBoost 1.0.5. That seems to have infected FireFox. When I open FireFox, the search engine that comes up is Astromendia. I deleted that from my list of programs but I believe it's embedded in PCPowerBoost. I have uninstalled and reloaded FireFox but with the same result. How can I get rid of PCPowerBoost?

    Hello,
    Please see one of these guides:
    * http://malwaretips.com/blogs/remove-astromenda-virus/
    * http://malwaretips.com/blogs/astromenda-removal/
    If you have already uninstalled it, likely there are just some residual files leftover. You can first check your extensions to see if that didn't get removed:
    * Tools (or [[Image: New Fx Menu]]) > Add-ons > Extensions
    Try running the scans outlined in the guides above (download links here as well):
    * [http://www.malwarebytes.org/products/malwarebytes_free/ MalwareBytes' Anti-Malware]
    * [http://general-changelog-team.fr/en/downloads/viewdownload/20-outils-de-xplode/2-adwcleaner AdwCleaner] (for more info, see this [http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/download/adwcleaner/ alternate AdwCleaner download page])
    You can use the [https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/searchreset/ Search Reset Tool] extension to reset some of your settings. Installing this will set your home page, new tab page, and search preferences to the default settings and then the extension will uninstall itself.

    I have something called Babylon which keeps coming up. How do I get rid of it, and most importantly mis it a risk to my computer ie a virus?

    have a look at this thread:

    If this does not help, search in SuMo for more on Babylon - there's more, but I guess the above ref should suffice.

    If you are using an unsecured or shared wireless network, then it could be just another user's computer name. If your sharing settings are correct, you have no worry. However, It would appear that at least some of the other user's settings are less than optimal inasmuch as his/hers is openly being displayed.
    The next time you check into a hotel and use their wireless network, you are likely to see a number of other user's computers. Some just the name, as they share no files. While others are wide open, and their file sharing is on.

    How do I remove the message "Touch to return to call" at top of the iPhone.

    Can you not touch the green bar and end the call?
    If not and if a restart doesn't work as wjosten suggested, try resetting your iPhone by pressing the home and sleep buttons until you see the Apple logo, ignoring the slider. Takes about 5-15 secs of button holding and you won't lose any data or settings.
