Something in my network is blocking Apple iOS updates, through iTunes, Direct Download, or on device..

Apologies if this is the wrong category, but I felt this might be more of a Network issue rather than something iOS related, so I wanted to ask the Mac guys rather than iOS where there will also be Windows users etc.
I have an iPhone 4S, iPhone 3GS, and 2x iPod touch 4th Gen all running iOS 5.0.1. I also have an iMac running 10.7.3 and all latest software (inc. iTunes), MacBook running 10.6.8, Time Capsule 1TB and a Netgear router provided by my UK ISP; Sky Broadband. I also have an Apple TV on 4.4.4 than needs updating to 5.0.
When attempting a software update on an iOS device itself (Over-The-Air updates) on my home network I cannot connect to the server, and get an error. Switching my iPhone 4S to 3G allowed me to find the 5.1 update, but not download it as it requires WiFi. Apple TV hangs on estimating time for download (I think).
I have also attempted to download the actual ipsw file from Apple Servers using links readily available on the net (through 'felixbruns'). I get the grey 'Safari could not connect to the server' style message. At one stage I connected to the Netgear router via WiFi rather than through the Time Capsule, and was able to connect to the direct link (although I paused it to try on iPhone). I have never since been able to connect to this direct link via any method.
While in the supermarket today I was able to connect to their free public WiFi and update my iPhone 4S successfully.
I have reset the Netgear router back to factory settings, along with the Time Capsule, and still cannot connect to download updates through either. I'm beginning to become paranoid that it's my ISP blocking the site, although that seems highly unlikely??
I have never had such an issue with software updates in the past 5+ years! This really confuses me, as I'm no novice Mac user...
Any ideas..?

Thank you for the reply. I did try change my DNS server didn't seem to help.
When you are on iTunes and click on Help Menu highlight Run Disgnositcs choose Network Connectivity Test do you get any red buttons?
Thanks for you help!!

Try this first. Turn Off your iPad. Then turn Off (disconnect power cord) the wireless router & then back On. Now boot your iPad. Hopefully it will see the WiFi.

  • Latest ios 8 update through itunes freezes product

Seriously Apple, we should not have to reset our products to factory defaults the get the newest update to work when updating through itunes. My son's ipod updated fine through the ipod (5th) itself but my ipad (2)and my daughters ipod (5th)both encounter an error when updating through itunes. What a way to waste a day.

I had my iphone 4 locked to vodafone uk carrier. I connected the phone to itunes on my pc and tried to update the version to ios 6 through itunes. But it has been locked and asks for sim of previous carrier. how can i return to previous state?

You cannot return to previous state. The update re-locked the iPhone
to the original carrier. You must contact the original carrier to see if
they offer unlocking and if you qualify.
What does it say when you look at Settings=>General=>Carrier?
Be advised that if your iPhone had previously been hacked/modified/
jailbroken to work with other than original carrier, it may be impossible
for the original carrier to unlock it properly.

I had the same problem. My phone wasn't finding it so I tried plugging it into my laptop and it said I needed the latest iTunes which I already had.... I unplugged my phone from my laptop and did a soft reset to my phone (hold down the lock button and home button at the same time until your phone turns off) once it turns back on you should find the update... Click general... Software update. Worked for me!

Download the Windows Installer CleanUp utility from the following page (use one of the links under the thingy):
    http://majorgeeks.com/download.php?det=4459
To install the utility, doubleclick the msicuu2.exe file you downloaded.
Now run the utility ("Start > All Programs > Windows Install Clean Up"). In the list of programs that appears in CleanUp, select any Apple Software Update entries and click "Remove", as per the following screenshot:
Quit out of CleanUp, restart the PC and try another iTunes install. Does it go through properly this time?

  • After iOS update, my iTunes no longer sync 'ERROR MESSAGE'

After the new iOS update on my phone, my iTunes on my MAC will not sync. The error message I receive says I need to update iTunes, but it's already updated to the last version and there are no updates available when I go thru the iTunes menu.  HELP!

Apple fans. Don't fret. I struggled with this since Saturday when I got my new phone. im pretty tech savvy with a background in computers and I'm a mechanic by trade so i generally know how things work and figure out anything. After trying everything you all have probaby tried as well I did some comparisons to my wife's phone. I paid all three of our cars to her phone easily. One is a Honda hand free link, the other a Hyundai sonata system and the last a pioneer aftermarket Bluetooth with streaming, avrcp etc. after her iPhone 6 128gb connected and worked flawlessly, I narrowed the problem down to my phone specifically. It's not the phone, it's not the ios8, it's not your car. It's your settings. All I did was reset network settings and bam. Problem fixed. You see I messeed with a bunch of stuff in the beginning trying to avoI'd data overage and must have turned something off by mistake. Another theroy I have is my iPhone 5 setting were copied over in the process of migration and they were maybe incompatible with the iPhone 6 itself. Either way post back and let me know if this helps

  • Updating to iOS 5 through iTunes In Perpetual Backup

My wife has an iPhone 4 and we've been trying to update it to the new OS. When iOS 5 came out it downloaded into her iTunes just fine it seemed. When she hooked up her phone to update it, it notified her the update was availalbe, if she wanted to transfer some apps to the iTunes store, etc. etc. We clicked update, it "prepared the phone for backup" – took 20 seconds – then proceeded to be in backup mode for a very very long time.
I'm kind of curious of our options here.
    1. Can we re-download the iOS? Not sure if this is possible, but truthfully it doesn't seem like a problem with the iOS itself, just the computer/software.
    2. Is there something within iTunes we could do to fix her connectivity with the phone? I know you can manually choose to back it up somewhere, but the options in the windows iTunes are organized differently that the mac.
    3. Or, I could just create a new user on my MacBook Pro and sync/backup her phone in a fresh iTunes that way, which would more than likely work. I still have a 3G, so there was no need for me to download the OS update.
I might post this on the iPhone page as well.
    Any advice is much appreciated!

    Consider the case closed.

  • Can iPhone apps be updated via iTunes v download from home network?

I thought that by connecting my iphone through itunes on my laptop I could get all updates for my apps through itunes via synching and it would go very fast.    I have 27 apps currently updating and it has taken nearly 35 mins and the app updates are still downloading.   It's fine I guess when I'm home but I just updated apps a few weeks ago outside of my home network and AT&T had a field day with the amount of data I downloaded, especially since I couldn't cancel the updates.
Also, is there any blessed way to cancel the updates (yes I know they are meant to be there for a reason, but if I don't want them downloading via a cellular network, can I cancel or pause until I am into my home network?
    Thanks,
    Bill

First of all, your profile above indicates you are running OS X 10.6.8.  Is this true?  If so, realize this is the oldest version of OS X that supports the current iTunes (11.2.2).  So once the next version of iOS is released, it seems likely that you would either be required to upgrade your OS X or no longer be able to sync your iPhone.
Given you are running an iTunes version that supports your iPhone, open iTunes on your computer, click the "Apps" tab, then click "Check for Updates" in the lower right.  After you have done that, syncing your iPhone using iTunes will cause the latest versions of the iOS apps to be downloaded to your iPhone from your iTunes.

  • WHERE DO I FIND IOS UPDATE ON ITUNES?

I am trying to update my ipad to be able to view netflix and I cannot do it directly through my ipad. I have to, supposedly, do it through itunes but can't figure out how. HELP!

Connect the iPad to your computer's iTunes and copy any purchases off the iPad to your computer via File > Transfer Purchases. You may also want to copy photos and any important documents off the iPad as well e.g. via the file sharing section at the bottom of the device's apps tab when connected to iTunes, via wifi, email, dropbox etc - they should be included in the backup, but it's best to have a copy of them outside of the backup just in case. You can then force a backup of the iPad by right-clicking the iPad 'Device' on the left-hand side of iTunes and selecting 'Backup'.
Then start the update by selecting the iPad on the left-hand side of iTunes, and on the Summary tab on the right-hand side clicking the Check For Updates button
    Updating to iOS 5+ : http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4972
Your iPad should be updated to iOS 6.0.1 (which is the only version that is 'signed' by Apple), so you will lose the built-in YouTube app and the Maps app will change - but google have app versions in the store.
