Something is seriously WRONG with Speedgrades Rendering Machine

Hi...
Today we tried to render out a simple movie to ProRes 4444...
First the preset we had made for PR4444 did NOT want to render --- error communicating with Child Process (Whatever THAT means)
Then we chose adobe's PR4444 preset "Apple Prores 4444 @ 25 FPS
You know what happened ? --- Speedgrade DID render out to Prores -- but instead of wrapping it into a .MOV file it spat out 1200 Prores single frames...
I love this app, seriously... It is amazing but the render section is the worst i've ever experienced.
Rendering, Adobe, is a PRETTY important part of a project. Unless of course, you want us to send out Speedgrade serials to our clients so that they can watch the outcome in Speedgrade ;-)
Rendering out, should NOT get in the way of being creative -- As a matter of fact, rendering should be so seemless that one choses a preset and hits render ;-)
Pretty much the way you intended for Speedgrade to work.. Only it doesnt work ;-)

Hi Patrick.
Same(ish) problem with me - simply can't render. My workflow is:
Sony A7R camera (records HD in native 1080p 25fps MTS files)
Use AME to transcode to MOV 25fps progressive H.264 MOV (I have to do this because SpeedGrade disappointingly won't process native Sony MTS files) - Transcode seems fine. Clips play fine.
Use SpeedGrade to grade multiple clips on timeline, set the workspace in and outpoints to about 60 secs, create a maximum quality MOV output preset (settings below)
Finally click Render and the render processes right through on the first file of the 3 on the timeline, creating a MOV file in the destination folder, ***WHICH IT THEN DELETES*** then the SpeedGrade window hangs at 100%, and prevents me from re-rendering.
Any suggestions? Do I have some dumb settings (not an expert in video formats)
Step 2 My Transcode settings
Step 3 My output format
Step 4 - the resulting hang (with files started on the destination folder but then removed)
I'm running CC SpeedGrade on Windows 8.1, with 16GB Ram, quad core i5 chip.
Thanks.

Problem: i have a 2011 mac book pro & recently since last month its been randomly freezing (sometimes the screen will just go blue or black or everything including the mouse will stop moving or its a kernel alert) this can happen when i try to open a program or just at random. when I try to turn it back on after I see the apple it stays at white screen and the fan starts blowing hard. after this happens i have to repeatedly turn it on and off just to get past the white screen after i do that. sometimes everything seems fine for a few hours works good everything. but sometimes it freezes & or gets stuck at white screen....
Things Ive done so far: After I called apple we did a few things..... we tried safe mode, we tried repairing the disk and disk permissions, moving to a new user, erasing cache, hardware test, removing certain apps, using specific key board commands to get past the white screen, reinstalling OSX, checking the ram and disk space....
and after all of this THESE ISSUES ARE STILL HERE! whats wrong with my mac anyone know how i can fix it?

Just in case you would like to have a final try
    Hello,
If a sad iPod icon or an exclamation point and folder icon appears on your iPod’s screen, or with sounds of clicking or HD whirring, it is usually the sign of a hard drive problem and you have the power to do something about it now. Your silver bullet of resolving your iPod issue – is to restore your iPod to factory settings.
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=60983
If you're having trouble, try these steps at different levels one at a time until the issue is resolved. These steps will often whip your iPod back into shape.
Make sure you do all the following “TRYs”
    A. Try to wait 30 minutes while iPod is charging.
    B. Try another FireWire or USB through Dock Connector cable.
    C. Try another FireWire or USB port on your computer .
    D. Try to disconnect all devices from your computer's FireWire and USB ports.
    E. Try to download and install the latest version of iPod software and iTunes
    http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/
For old and other versions of iPod updater for window you can get here
    http://www.ipodwizard.net/showthread.php?t=7369
    F. Try these five steps (known as the five Rs) and it would conquer most iPod issues.
    http://www.apple.com/support/ipod/five_rs/
    G. Try to put the iPod into Disk Mode if it fails to appear on the desktop
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=93651
If none of these steps address the issue, you may need to go to Intermediate level listed below in logical order. Check from the top of the lists to see if that is what keeping iPod from appearing on your computer in order for doing the Restore.
    Intermediate Level
    A. Try to connect your iPod with another computer with the iPod updater pre-installed.
    B. Still can’t see your iPod, put it in Disk Mode and connect with a computer, instead of doing a Restore on iPod Updater. Go and format the iPod instead.
    For Mac computer
    1. Open the disk utility, hope your iPod appears there (left hand side), highlight it
    2. Go to Tab “Partition”, click either “Delete” or “Partition”, if fails, skip this step and go to 3
    3. Go to Tab “Erase” , choose Volume Format as “MAC OS Extended (Journaled), and click Erase, again if fails, skip it and go to 4
    4. Same as step 3, but open the “Security Options....” and choose “Zero Out Data” before click Erase. It will take 1 to 2 hours to complete.
    5. Eject your iPod and do a Reset
    6. Open the iTunes 7 and click “Restore”
    For Window computer
    Go to folder “My Computer”
Hope you can see your iPod there and right click on the iPod
Choose “Format”. Ensure the settings are at “Default” and that “Quick Format” is not checked
    Now select “Format”
Eject your iPod and do a Reset
Open the iTunes 7 and click “Restore”
In case you do not manage to do a “Format” on a window computer, try to use some 3rd party disk utility software, e.g.“HP USB Disk Storage Format Tool”.

    C. Windows users having trouble with their iPods should locate a Mac user. In many cases when an iPod won't show up on a PC that it will show up on the Mac. Then it can be restored. When the PC user returns to his computer the iPod will be recognized by the PC, reformatted for the PC, and usable again. By the way, it works in reverse too. A Mac user often can get his iPod back by connecting it to a PC and restoring it.
    Tips
    a. It does not matter whether the format is completed or not, the key is to erase (or partly) the corrupted firmware files on the Hard Drive of the iPod. After that, when the iPod re-connected with a computer, it will be recognized as an fresh external hard drive, it will show up on the iTunes 7.
    b. It is not a difficult issue for a Mac user to find a window base computer, for a PC user, if they can’t find any Mac user, they can go to a nearest Apple Shop for a favor.
    c. You may need to switch around the PC and Mac, try to do several attempts between “Format” and “Restore”

    Advance Level
    A. Diagnostic mode solution
If you have tried trouble shooting your iPod to no avail after all the steps above, chances are your iPod has a hardware problem. The iPod's built-in Diagnostic Mode is a quick and easy way to determine if you have a "bad" iPod.
You need to restart your iPod before putting it into Diagnostic Mode. Check that your hold switch is off by sliding the switch away from the headphone jack. Toggle it on and off to be safe.
Press and hold the following combination of buttons simultaneously for approximately 10 seconds to reset the iPod.
    iPod 1G to 3G: "Menu" and "Play/Pause"
iPod 4G+ (includes Photo, Nano, Video, and Mini): "Menu" and "Select"
The Apple logo will appear and you should feel the hard drive spinning up. Press and hold the following sequence of buttons:
iPod 1G to 3G: "REW", "FFW" and "Select"
iPod 4G+ (includes Photo, Nano, Video, and Mini): "Back" and "Select"
You will hear an audible chirp sound (3G models and higher) and the Apple logo should appear backwards. You are now in Diagnostic Mode. Navigate the list of tests using "REW" and "FFW". The scroll wheel will not function while in diagnostic mode. For further details on Diagnostic mode can be found at http://www.methodshop.com/mp3/ipodsupport/diagnosticmode/
Try to do the 5in1, HDD R/W and HDD scan tests. Some successful cases have been reported after the running the few tests under the Diagnostic mode. In case it does not work in your case, and the scan tests reports show some errors then it proves your iPod has a hardware problem and it needs a repairing service.
    B. Format your iPod with a start disk
I have not tried this solution myself, I heard that there were few successful cases that the users managed to get their iPod (you must put your iPod in disk mode before connecting with a computer) mounted by the computer, which was booted by a system startup disk. For Mac, you can use the Disk Utility (on the Tiger OS system disk), for PC user, you can use the window OS system disk. Try to find a way to reformat your iPod, again it does not matter which format (FAT32, NTFS or HFS+) you choose, the key is to erase the corrupted system files on the iPod. Then eject your iPod and do a Reset to switch out from Disk Mode. Reboot your computer at the normal way, connect your iPod back with it, open the iPod updater, and hopefully your iPod will appear there for the Restore.
If none of these steps address the issue, your iPod may need to be repaired.
Consider setting up a mail-in repair for your iPod http://depot.info.apple.com/ipod/
Or visit your local Apple Retail Store http://www.apple.com/retail/
In case your iPod is no longer covered by the warranty and you want to find a second repairing company, you can try iPodResQ at your own risk
    http://www.ipodresq.com/index.php
Just in case that you are at the following situation
    Your iPod warranty is expired
You don’t want to pay any service charges
You are prepared to buy a new one
You can’t accept the re-sell value of your broken iPod
Rather than leave your iPod as paper-weight or throw it away.
You can try the following, but again, only do it as your last resort and at your own risk.
Warning !!!! – It may or may not manage to solve your problem, and with a risk that you may further damage your iPod, which end up as an expensive paper weight or you need to pay more higher repairing cost. Therefore, please re-consider again whether you want to try the next level
    Last Resort Level
    1. . Disconnecting the Hard Drive and battery inside the iPod – Warning !! Your iPod warranty will be waived once you open the iPod.
In Hong Kong there are some electronic shops offering an iPod service for Sad iPod, the first thing they do is to open up the iPod’s case and disconnecting the battery and the Hard Drive from the main board of the iPod. Wait for 5-10 minutes and reconnecting them back. The reason behind which I can think of is to do a fully reset of a processor of the iPod. In case you want do it itself and you believe that you are good on fixing the electronics devices and have experience to deal with small bits of electronic parts, then you can read the following of how to open the iPod case for battery and HDD replacement (with Quicktimes)
    http://eshop.macsales.com/tech_center/index.cfm?page=Video/directory.html
2.Press the reset button on the Hard Drive inside the iPod – Suggestion from Kill8joy
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=2438774#2438774
Have I tried these myself? No, I am afraid to do it myself as I am squeamish about tinkering inside electronic devices, I have few experiences that either I broke the parts (which are normally tiny or fragile) or failed to put the parts back to the main case. Therefore, I agree with suggestion to have it fixed by a Pro.

I am not suggesting that you should follow as well, but just read them as your reference. You are the person to make the call.
Finally, I read a fair comments from dwb, regarding of slapping the back of the iPod multiple times
Quote “This has been discussed numerous times as a 'fix'. It does work, at least for a while. In fact I remember using the same basic trick to revive Seagate and Quantam drives back in the mid to late 1980's. Why these tiny hard drives go bad I don't know - could be the actuator gets stuck in place or misaligned. Could be the platter gets stuck or the motor gets stuck. 'Stiction' was a problem for drives back in the 80's. Unfortunately the fix can cause damage to the platter so we temporarily fix one problem by creating another. But I know of two instances where a little slap onto the table revived the iPods and they are still worked a year or more later.”UnQuote

  • Something has gone wrong with CS3, and bridge

I am somewhat baffled with a viewing on my Windows laptop. I took a photo of my screen today. On the left you can see the photo has extreme red rendering and for the record, this photo is as "shot". The one on the right is the same photo but in the windows viewer. the rendering is much better. The "redness" shows up in lightroom, bridge and photoshop "as shot" but not so with windows viewer.
Does anyone have any idea what could be causing this
    http://www.nikonians-images.org/galleries/showphoto.php/photo/112460/ppuser/86184
    Ken

    Ken,
PS is colour managed, and as Dave said, your screen should be calibrated. But this one could also be caused by a colour space mismatch.
For instance, if your working space is a wide gamut space, like ProPhoto RGB, and the image is a small gamut space, like sRGB, the the RGB values are stretched to accommodate the wider space. (just as it would be compressed if it were the other way around).
To get this right you have to tag the right space to the image by applying the right profile to it (do not convert).
Set the conversions Rendering Intend (in Color Settings) to Perceptual.
    Hope this helps.

not sure, but your other option (which i would highly recommend)  is to invest in either a time capsule or an online backup - such as dropbox. both of these are costly but can save your life (as it saved mine) if something were to go wrong - which is inevitable.

  • Something has gone wrong with my imovie

I have used imovie HD for several years and have mademany movies composed of stills and Slick transitions.  I started my most recent proect and everything went well for a while, but as I am nearing the end (about 2 minutes to go on a 15 min. project), imovie is going nuts! Every clip i import has the Ken Burns effect and changing the setting in Medis does not work.  I have struggled and managed to get 2 photos to stay still, but as soon as I apply a transition, the Ken Burns effect starts in again.  It is almost as if there is a "memory" burned into my computer which is not allowwiing me change anything.
I am on a MacBook Pro (the most recent one that wll still let me use Snow Leopard).  I am using iMovie HD (6.0.3).  I am using some transitions that came with iMovie and some from Three Gee specifically for imovie HD.  I have tried deleting cache, deleting clips and replacing them (although soetimes the new clips come in as .mov rather than images).  I just do not know what else to do.
I completed a movie abour 4 months ago with this exact set up and had no major problems. I'm wondering if one of Apple's mysterious Security Updates has changed something.  I am really frantic to get this finished.  Any help would be appreciated.
    Sass

Didn't work. But thank you for the suggestion.
I managed to get the video finished by clearing the clips whose Ken Burns effect I wan't to stop or change.  I had to clear the lead-in and lead-out transitions.  Then I had to clear the trash and save, restart iMovie, replace the images with a new copy.  At this point, I was able to play with the Ken Burns effect -- often keeping it, but having the zoom go from 1.0 to 1.0.  Then I was able to reappy the transitions.  It took an extremely large amount of time.  If I ween't so fond of the Three Gee effects, I would relegate iMovie (and maybe my Mac) to the trash, too.

  • Something is VERY wrong with my GarageBand...

I have Garageband 3.0.4 and just today when I tried editing a previously recorded song that contained loops, all of the loops got jumbled together, then disappeared, then wouldn't go back to normal. I can't even explain it too well, it looks like a virus has taken over it; it is VERY bizarre. Anytime I click any of the loops, it will erase them or jumble them together. It seems that ever since I upgraded my MacBook to Leopard from Tiger, everything on my computer has started to go downhill. Has anyone experienced any of these problems? PLEASE HELP
P.S. These are some other problems with my Mac that I posted as a Discussion Question earlier, but I haven't gotten an answer:
Ever since I upgraded my MacBook to Mac OS X Leopard 10.5.4 from Tiger (and also purchased and installed Office Mac 2008), it will not wake up from sleep. If I close it while it is still awake, (which I normally would without problems before I upgraded) it will not wake up when I open it; the screen just stays black and I have to use the power button to restart it. This also happens when it falls asleep naturally after being on screen saver. It is a really big annoyance and I know that it must be damaging my computer.
Also, now it will randomly shut down if it does not have the power adapter plugged in, which never happened before.
ALSO, my CD burn attempts will fail midway and say "medium write error".
Can my computer not handle all of the new software I put on it or something? I feel as though it's slowly deteriorating, and it's not even 2 years old. Do I need to buy more memory or disk space? I am really clueless as to how to fix these problems. I'm only 16 and really can't afford to spend money on getting it looked at, so PLEASE help

you'd probably be better off asking in one of the OS forums for those details, but one piece of advice: if the only copies of your files are on your hard drive, you'll lose them eventually, guaranteed. *Back Them Up*

  • Something gone horribly wrong with my router

I'm out in the middle of nowhere and just set up a few days ago a WRT54G2 V1 wireless 4-port router a family member had laying around. I had no problem getting it working and running. About an hour ago I noticed I wasn't picking up the wireless with my cell phone and went to check it on my laptop, I had no wireless connections available. It wasn't my adapter or anything since I know there are no other connections out where I am. I went to reset the router and found it had taken issue with that. Once I powered everything back on the router stopped responding and became "stuck" in an annoying state. It doesn't respond to the reset button, unplugging and replugging, nothing. Whether the internet was plugged in or not it will not move past what it's doing now.
Do I need to buy a new router or is this a problem that can be fixed?

Hi F0xism and welcome to the forums!
Please try to reset the router for 30 seconds while it is turned on then turn it off and then turn in on again after 30 seconds. Connect a computer directly in one of the ethernet ports just to check if it's still giving your computer an IP address.
It should give you the message: " Local Area Connection is now connected" or something relevant to that.
Let us know if it works.

  • What's wrong with my State Machine structure? I'm new to LabView

I've been recently introduced to LabView, and in my current project I've created an "Enum Constant" with 9 items. Le'ts say, for example, each item says:
    "First Item"
    "Second Item"
    "Third Item"
    ...etc
then I created a case structure, and used the "Add case for every value" option.
My problem is that later on, I noticed that in the Case Structure, my cases show numbers "0, Default" "1" "2" ...  instead of saying "First Item" or "Second Item" .... etc
I don't know what in the world I've done to change the display of the values, and I can't figure out the way to change it back lol
    Side Notes:
--The enum constant (obviously attached to the case structure) still has the same values "First Item" "Second Item" "Third Item"
--The enum constant (again, attached to the case structure) has a tunnel that goes through a While Loop with a Shift Register, and there's a little coercion dot right there at the input terminal. I don't know what to do about it.
-- I can't attach the VI for moral reasons, so I tried to explain my problem as simple as I could

You should also make the enum a type def. Otherwise you're going to run into synchronization issues if you need to modify the enum list. Without a type def you'd have to update every single enum instance on your block diagram, and it's a pretty safe bet that you'd likely miss on. By using a type def you'd only need to modify the list in one place and all instance of that type def would be updated. The LabVIEW Help discusses creating and using type defs.

Try to uninstall and reinstall the Aurora version to do a clean reinstall.
Do NOT remove "personal data" when you uninstall your current Firefox version, because this will remove all profile folders and you lose personal data like bookmarks and passwords including data in profiles created by other Firefox versions.

  • Since the last update Firefox has been crashing constantly and something is VERY WRONG with the update!!!!!!!!! Why?

Since the last update to Firefox, I have had crashes non stop about every ten minutes or so, with very typical use. The update SUCKS and is crashing computers. I am SURE I am not the only one. PLEASE FIX THIS ASAP. I have been a Firefox user forever, but now going to Chrome and Explorer until I hear from you about fixing this issue. Never before have I had this problem with Firefox. Bums me out. But I can't deal with the constant crashes and it is ABSOLUTELY since the last update a day or two ago.

    Hello,
'''Try Firefox Safe Mode''' to see if the problem goes away. [[Troubleshoot Firefox issues using Safe Mode|Firefox Safe Mode]] is a troubleshooting mode that turns off some settings and disables most add-ons (extensions and themes).
''(If you're using an added theme, switch to the Default theme.)''
If Firefox is open, you can restart in Firefox Safe Mode from the Help menu by clicking on the '''Restart with Add-ons Disabled...''' menu item:<br>
    [[Image:FirefoxSafeMode|width=520]]<br><br>
If Firefox is not running, you can start Firefox in Safe Mode as follows:
    * On Windows: Hold the '''Shift''' key when you open the Firefox desktop or Start menu shortcut.
    * On Mac: Hold the '''option''' key while starting Firefox.
    * On Linux: Quit Firefox, go to your Terminal and run ''firefox -safe-mode'' <br>(you may need to specify the Firefox installation path e.g. /usr/lib/firefox)
''Once you get the pop-up, just select "'Start in Safe Mode"''
'''''If the issue is not present in Firefox Safe Mode''''', your problem is probably caused by an extension, and you need to figure out which one. Please follow the [[Troubleshoot extensions, themes and hardware acceleration issues to solve common Firefox problems]] article to find the cause.
''To exit Firefox Safe Mode, just close Firefox and wait a few seconds before opening Firefox for normal use again.''
When you figure out what's causing your issues, please let us know. It might help others with the same problem.
    Thank you.
