Something is stuck in my fan

I'm hearing clicking noises from the top part of my macbook, and at first thought it was a hard drive problem, but after removing the battery cover and listening to my hard drive realized that it wasn't my hard drive making the noise. I looked online for a bit, and I think it might be a fan problem, especially since I can't hear it coming on at all anymore even when my computer gets very hot.
Is this something I can fix myself? Does theclicking mean that there is something stuck in the propellers or can it also mean that the fan is dying?

... Sounds as if something is stuck in the fan.
Probably is. They get dusty. Shut down your computer and clean it out with a vacuum (don't blow dust back inside).

  • Something is stuck in my headphone exit.

Tried to connect my headphones to my ipod nano when i noticed that it only would go halfway in. I look inside the exit and obviously something is stuck in there.
Any idea about how to get it out?

  • I have a problem with my home butten, its working but when i press it, it seems like something is stuck in it. like sand or something like that, and this is the second time it happens to me with 2 devices. what can i do?

Ok so first sorry for my english, Im not American.
2 months ago i bought a new Iphone 4 device from my phone company, after a month something happened to the home butten, when i pressed it it felt like something stuck in it.. like sand or dirt.. but the home butten worked perfectly. so i went to the phone company and they told me that it is a problem and they replaced it with a new one. but after a week my iphone fell and something happened to him so i sold it to someone i know, and with that money i bought a new one from privet store (unlike the last time, when i bought my iphone in a big phone company) and in the begining it felt new, i didnt had any problems, but 2 days ago when i woke up i pressed the butten and i noticed that the problem with the home butten is back.. and i dont know what to do.. i mean like its not a big deal or something, it just that when i buy something new, i excpet it to be new, and i want to ejnoy it while its new.
so i went to some guy i know and he told me that he will see what he can do, i paid him 130 Shekels (35$) and he told my that he replaced the butten with new one, but still it makes problems. it bothers me alot, because i pay almost 300 shekels per month (75$) and i expect from this device to be new.. and its killing me.
now, i cant go to the phone company because thats not their device, and i know what the people in the privet store will tell me.. that its my fault and bla bla bla.. so what can i do? i cant spend any more money on this..
its new.. for some reason this always happenes to me.. 3 devices, problems problems and problems..

You are right, but how could i send it to Apple? when the phone company first replaced my iphone they had in stock alots of iphones and they just sent mine back to Apple and gave me a new one, so all i did is to give them my phone, but now how could i sent it to Apple? and i cant send it by myself, and the store wont do that, its a lost for them.. so sending it to Apple wasnt an option from the begining.
and for the record, i dont think the store where i bought it is an authorized shop.. its just a store who boughts phone's from Apple in a low price and sells it in much more money..

  • Something's stuck in my iMac disc drive?

I put a disk in this morning, and I thought I saw out of the corner of my eye a piece of paper or something go in with the disc. I thought I was imagining things, but now it can't read any discs and ejects any disk I put in there.
Anybody know how to check if there's something in there, and how to get it out? (My iMac is a 2.16 ghz core 2 duo, if that makes a difference).
    Help!

Hi, wrap a piece of double sided selotape around a thin piece of card about 12" X 1" - slide it into the cd drive and the tape should allow you to pull it out..careful & slow are the Best words...L

  • Something is stuck in my iPod's headphones hole.

Yesterday I tried plugging a headphone in my iPod. I realized there was something in the way. I tried taking it out but the headphones made it worse. Now my iPod sees whatever is blocking the way as an headphone so I can't even hear any sound from my iPod. What shall I do?

  • Something's Stuck

All of a sudden, my brand new MacBook started acting weird. When I use my mouse to click on a menu, the menu options show, but then go away. I'm not able to open or close an application because I can't choose a menu option. Also, in some programs, I get an unusual sound, just like if you're holding a key down and it does that drummer thing. The only thing that quits that, is to comd+q application. In Safari (or Firefox) I can't type in a new location or choose a bookmark, can't delete a location and type in a new one. I've gone through all the options in the mouse/keyboard option in Sys Prefs...when I can get it to open. I've restarted and shut down several times. I've changed the mouse, cleaned the mouse, cleaned the keyboard, all to no avail. I'm sure it's some little setting I accidentally messed up, but I would appreciate any help!

Power Book G4   Mac OS X (10.4.6)   21" Cinema Display

    Two possibilities cross my mind:
    1) You have a mouse that is either defective, damaged, or (if it's a wireless model) the batteries are dying.
    2) The "number lock" key on your keyboard is turned on. I's the F6 button, and will be lit green if it's turned on. This will prevent you from using the keyboard for anything except typing in numbers.

  • Something is stuck in my cd drive?

Ok Somehow someone put a memory card in my CD drive, am I able to get the memory card out of my CD drive? and will the person be able to get the memory card back? Help

    Welcome to the Apple Discussions!
That will probably require you to pay an Apple Certified tech to retrieve the memory card. It may even require disassembling your iMac to get it.

  • Did something stupid, stuck in darwin

    Hey everyone,
I have a young kid coming over and I set up a guest user account for him. In doing so I decided that I wanted to lock him out of my hard drive, so I logged back into my admin account did "get info" on my hard drive and set it up so that admins have read/write permissions and non-admins don't. I thought this was risky but would be reversable if I just logged back into my admin account, what I didn't realize was that OSX treats the user login screen as a user, and therefore I locked the computer out of the gui user login screen. Now when I turn on my computer it boots into Darwin/BSD and prompts me for a login/pass. I can type in my admin login/pass, but I'm not sure what to do next to fix the issue. I guess I have a few questions, and if I'm totally off let me know:
    1) Is there a UNIX command to get me out of Darwin and back into my GUI after loging in as an admin in darwin? (unless the GUI and darwin are not running in any related way)
    2) Will this require a system dvd to reverse the settings on my hard drive access priviledges?
and thanks in advance for any advice you may have, it is greately appreciated.

You need to get into single user mode. The startup drive is named: / You need to change the permissions on it. I tried the command on another directory.
This is safe if you limit yourself to these commands.
You need to get into single use mode for the commands that are listed below.
This page will tell you how to get into single user mode.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1492
Basically, you hold down the command-s key then powering on your machine. The command key has a little apple symbol on the lower left. It is between the alt/option key and the space bar. On a PC keyboard, it will be the windows key, I think.
( Do you know Unix. You are in a Unix single user console. ) The setup commands you need should be listed on the screen. For Mac OS 10.4.11, the commands are:
    # Type the follow two instructions to access the startup disk in read/write:
    /sbin/fsck -fy
    /sbin/mount -uw /
    root # cd /
    root # pwd
    root # ls -ld
    drwxrwxr-t   48 root  admin  1734 Dec 31  1969 ./
    root # chmod 1775 /

  • Fan strange sound

    Hi.
My MacBook Pro is making a strange noise, like something is stuck on a fan. The sound comes from the the left side of the Mac.
What can this be and does anyone knows how to fix this without going to an Apple service?
    Thanks.
    Best regards,
    Telmo

You might want to start by running the extended version of the Apple Hardware test to see if there is a hardware problem with the fan like a bearing going out or something like that. If there is, you will get an error code and if so, you want to contact Apple about getting the fan replaced.
It's possible that the fan is just rubbing on the housing or has some piece of debris caught up in it. If you want to open up your Mac and look, you can find instructions at ifixit:
    http://www.ifixit.com/
    Good luck!

  • How I fixed my T61 fan at no cost

Anyone who owned a T6x for more than a couple of years might have noticed that the CPU fan becomes increasingly noisy with time, no matter how well the machine is kept.
So my fan sounded like something was stuck inside. I ordered a new fan, but its delivery was delayed and I was so annoyed by the noise that I took the old fan apart. Believe it or not, I fixed it with three drops of bike oil. Now it is perfectly silent: no added noises other than that of the air flowing. Few weeks have passed and so far so good.
This is what I did in detail:
extract the old heatsink/fan assembly (no need to take out the motherboard, just remove the palmrest, the keyboard and the upper frame)
drop 2 or 3 drops of bike oil inside the fan motor (no need to dismantle the fan/heatsink assembly)
blow air on it and make the fan spin, then clean the oil that spills (I cleaned with a soft brush); do it again and again until no oil comes out
    carefully clean the heatsink
apply some good thermal paste to the heatsink
    put everything back together
    enjoy the silence!
Please post on this thread your success&failure stories on this procedure.
Do this at your own risk: I take no resposibility for whatever damage your laptop may incur to.

I don't understand where you left the oils drops. My fan seems to be inside a black plastic cover ..

  • Loud fan and beep sound

Computer left on overnight when turned on has a loud fan that keeps getting louder and a long single beep every few seconds that gets gradually louder also

    Hi,
Remove the side panel from the case, and look for the heatsink & Cooler for the CPU. Make sure there isn't a wire stuck in the fan and make sure the CPU fan's power cord has not come unplugged from the mobo.
Do you ever get the computer shutting down saying that there is a "Thermal Event" or something similar?
