Something keeps changing my proxy settings

So I use a proxy to access the Internet at school, the settings for which I set in system preferences. I enter the details and tick the box saying it requires username and password details etc. I go out of that and then press apply. The trouble is, after about a minute usually a box comes up with red sign saying I need to enter my password details. Lo and behold I go back to the proxy settings, and the box I ticked a minute earlier is now unticked, and I have to do the process again. Any ideas anyone? I have had to start using Opera, which I'm not a huge fan of, because it has inbuilt proxy settings, but I can't get round not being able to access the iTunes Store etc.

Do a malware check with some malware scan programs. You need to scan with all programs because each program detects different malware. Make sure that you update each program to get the latest version of the database before doing a scan.

  • Why or how could firefox change my proxy settings without me doing anything right in the middle of browsing the internet?

    == Issue
    ==
I have another kind of problem with Firefox
    == Description
    ==
While I was browsing the internet suddenly nothing would happen when I clicked a link. Upon closing and opening firefox and trying to load a web page it said "the proxy server is refusing connection. Firefox is configured to use a proxy server that is refusing connections."
I did manage to fix the problem by changing the proxy settings from manual to auto-detect but what disturbs me is how those settings could be changed without me doing so right in the middle of using the internet. I dont know if its a bug or a security issue but I thought I would let you guys know.

  • I can not access a website after downloading the new firefox, and I tried changing the proxy settings and it isnt working. How do i re-downlaod the old firefox?

I am trying to access course compass. It is a school website and is only compatible with firefox 3. I upgraded to firefox 4 and now i cant access the website. I have tried to change the proxy settings but that didn't work. I tried to download an older version of firefox and firefox wouldn't let me. I just need to access this website.

hello rotary, please see [[Fix problems connecting to websites after updating Firefox]]

  • Why unwanted change in proxy settings at each startup of firefox blocks internet

The browser keeps giving blocked proxy server message. Found a proxy entered in connect settings. I click no proxy and it will function again. But as soon as I restart firefox the manual proxy setting is back and internet is blocked

  • Can' able to change my proxy settings in Internet Options

Few days ago my LAN proxy settings in Internet Options>Connection tab changed and I can't able to revert the changes. It set to
    HTTP: 127.0.0.1:8080
    Secure: 127.0.0.1:8080
A message at the bottom displays "Some settings are managed by your system administrator". I am the only user of my PC.
I am using windows 8.1 having Internet explorer 11. I had tried all the methods to make it work correctly but not succeeded, please help me to solve this problem I can't able to connect any of the tiles apps and my internet speed also slows down. I checked
out for any miscellaneous program that may got installed on my PC but didn't find any one, all are from trusted vendors.

    Hello rngvivek,
Do you mean that the proxy setting in the Internet Option is automatically changed and then when you try to revert the setting, the error message ‘Some settings are managed by your system administrator’ shows up?
Please explain a bit about the following question for better analyzation:
    1. Have you made any change before this issue?
    2. Is this computer domain-joined?
    3. Can you still visit the website and use other app to connect to the Internet?
Please take the following steps for troubleshooting:
    1. Check if we can disable the proxy setting in the Internet Option
    2. Refer to the following KB to reset Internet Explorer.

  • Why do you keep changing my customized settings?

When I make customized preferences to the Firefox Browser, you keep changing it to what you want instead of keeping the browser look to what I have selected. Why? I even went by the steps that you have provided on your website; but, you still keep changing it to what you want. I don't appreciate it. Thanks.

  • FCP Do I have to keep changing capture scratch settings?

I've got a silly little question. I close w/e current project is open, create a folder in a drive (say FOLDER A), set capture scratch settings to FOLDER A, and create a new project and save it in FOLDER A too.
If I work on another project too, and do this same thing to create another project and save it in FOLDER B, when I switch between projects to work on them, do I have to change the settings each time? I may capture and import new material...
I'm migrating from PP3. The project file in PP3 used to save all these settings to a folder that could be moved to any directory.

When you first start a new project in FCP, the very first step should be to give the project a specific name. Once you've done that, FCP will automatically create folders bearing that project's name when you capture footage or render in that project.
There's no need to create the folder yourself. Once you've set the scratch disc in FCP's preferences, FCP does the rest for you.

  • Something keeps changing my search engine to Yahoo in stead of Google.

I noticed this evening that my search engine was Yahoo in stead of Google. I changed it back to Google and later closed the browser and then opened it again and it had switched me back to Yahoo again. I had also noted a toolbar a day or 2 ago that showed Yahoo. I think it was called Obit. I shut it off. I went in to manage add-ons, etc. I noticed this Obit thing and completely removed it and restarted my computer. The Yahoo search engine is back again. How do I get rid of this forever?
    thanks
    Maurice Cowden

    Hi cowdenff,
You should take a look at the Knowledge Base article [[Search bar]]. I'd also be sure that you remove that Obit addon completely and the Yahoo! toolbar if it's installed as well.
If that doesn't work you should look at the article [http://kb.mozillazine.org/Preferences_not_saved Preferences not saved].
    Hopefully this helps!

  • Mail 5.0 keeps changing my "rules" settings

I have set my rules in Mail to send my mail to either an "archive inbox" or "archive sent" folder after 30 days. Every so often, I will realize that mail has unchecked one or both my rules in preferances without my knowlegde. I will re-check the rule box and it stays that way for a while then it automatically unchecks one of them again! (I also have to reset the "to mailbox:" each time in preferances). This is happening on both my iMac and Macbook Pro. I switched to Apple Mail just before upgrading to lion so I cannot say weather this is specifically a Lion issue. I was using Entourage before switching to Mail. This is just one of several quirky things I am experiencing with Mail. If it wasnt for the easy syncing with all my iOS devices, I'd switch back to Entourage. (I am using MobileMe, if it is a poblem with MM I cannot figure it out?) Thanks!

Hi. I am having a similar problem, except my window is about one month.
Some differences. You mentioned that you have another computer configured with POP. POP does have a setting to "remove downloaded emails after x". If POP is removing the emails from the server, your IMAP would reflect this. Check Mail > Preferences > Accounts on your POP configured machine.

  • Changing proxy settings on mediasou

rite, i got creative zentouch player, an i got the creative mediasource program on computer, but wen i wana rip cds on2 it, it wont recognise the cd, tracks, genre, anything. it sez 2 join that gracenote site, but when i try 2 do that, it says 'internal error: socket open failed'. i googled the problem, it sez i need 2 change the proxy settings of the player, i hav no clue how 2 do this, i looked around on the settings an everytin, sum help!!!!!!

    afi'verspeace,
This is down to the way your internet connection is set up, it would be best to speak to your network administrator or the person that set up the connection to see if a proxy is set up.
In short, a proxy ties into your network connection. You might have heard of "firewalls" before, a proxy works together with that, to connect you to a website or server safely.
In Internet Explorer, go to Tools> Internet Options> Connections> LAN settings. The proxy may be set there, if it is, you can just write the same details in the MediaSource proxy option/field.

  • Allow restricted user to change Proxy Settings

I have an OS X 10.4.11 MacBook Pro that has 2 accounts. One local administrator account and one restricted Network mobile account authenticating against an LDAP domain. All users are required to go through a proxy to get out to the internet. The proxy is not accessible outside our network. This means the proxy settings have to be change when the user takes his laptop out of the office. However since the user has a restricted account he does not have permission to change the proxy information.
Is there away I can allow this user to change the proxy settings or even change a Network Location with out giving him administrator privileges.?

Hi msaner, and a warm welcome to the forums!
Haven't found the answer just yet, but...
    /System/Library/CoreServices/SystemUIServer.app/Contents/Resources/Autoload.plis t
contained some interesting strings after finding changing permissions on the PrefPanes didn't work, like...

  • Update hosts file and Change proxy settings for all users on Mac

I am in a large environment with many Mac users. We have a Windows based proxy server that we are switching over within a few weeks. So far we are manually having to go to each Mac and change the proxy settings under the users account. This is a very long and painstaking process as users are on vacation etc. and our cutoff date is fast approaching for the old proxy.
we also are having to log into each workstation as administrator go into the terminal and so sudo passwd root then change the password then do sudo vi /etc/hosts to edit the hosts file.
Is there a way to change the proxy server setting for safari and firefox globally without having to log in as each user on the Mac ?
Or is there an automated way through a script that the users can run ?
These macs authenticate to active directory. They do not have a mac server but I was told to post this question here versus the desktop area.

Most browsers include an [automatic proxy configuration (PAC) mechanism|http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Proxy_auto-config] and the transparent configuration of proxies, and Safari and Firefox are no different here.
The usual approach here is to have folks visit a site and select the PAC file, or to push the file out. Here is a comfiguration example from [UConn|http://helpdesk.uconn.edu/trouble/proxy/autoprox.html], and another from [Rice|http://proxy.rice.edu/setup.php], and there are others around and visible via Google.
The [pactester|http://code.google.com/p/pactester> tool might be useful, too.
If y'all get some DNS entries set up (various web browsers have [Web Proxy Auto Discovery (WPAD)|http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/WebProxy_AutodiscoveryProtocol], when last I checked [Safari needed a little help|http://www.macosxhints.com/article.php?story=20090711031033128]) and have your firewall raise an appropriate diagnostic page, you won't have to go through this again, either.
None of this stuff is particularly specific to Mac OS X or to Safari; the PAC stuff is fairly generic, and WPAD is used with various boxes. (Try Safari with WPAD, but you might still need to reference that PAC file. And if you do, using WPAD-compliant naming would probably be a reasonable approach.)
The hosts files? You're really still using those? Any chance you can get real DNS working? That's a whole lot less work, and now is the time to deploy that; if you're going to mess with everything, then you can use that effort and that requirement to (also) move forward in your networking capabilities.

  • Why wont my proxy settings stay when i change them?

Every time i open my firefox browser it says "serve was reset" so i change the proxy settings to automatically detect proxy settings. when i close my browser and open it back up it says "server was reset" and the proxy settings were set back to what they were before i changed them.

Could you describe in a bit more detail what you mean by clicking on the toolbar to open your home page: are you clicking the Home button, or using reload, or using a bookmark?
Does the same problem occur when you open a new window (Ctrl+n), or only when you use your Firefox desktop icon?
''If the problem is specific to your shortcut on the desktop:''
Check whether the shortcut specifies any command-line parameters. Here's what I mean:
right-click the icon > Properties > Shortcut tab
The "Target" line should be selected. That line should not have any extra stuff after the following:
    32-bit Windows:
    "C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\firefox.exe"
    64-bit Windows:
    "C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox\firefox.exe"
If you see extra text after that, clear it out, save your change, and try the shortcut again. Any improvement?

  • Changing proxy settings

I am on a public wifi network and when I try and log into certain websites it tells me that it's not trusted.  How can i change the proxy settings so I can allow those webpages?

The button takes you through to a tab in your Internet Options control panel, manu. So let's try getting into that via your Windows control panel.
Go "Start > Control Panel". If you're in Category view, switch to Classic view.
Open your "Internet Options" control panel. Click the "Connections" tab. Now you're where you would be if the "Change settings" button in the safari preferences was working for you.
