Something strange is happening with Siri

Whenever I use the voice function on the keyboard in an app which doesn't support the iOS7 keyboard, something strange happens. The three purple dots which usually appear in the text field when Siri is trying to work out what I said are no longer there. There is now a small emoji-like image of one of my applications.

This might help you to understand what I'm talking about. http://brychapps.paaage.com/strange-siri_53462.html
Thank you for any help!!!

  • Strange things happening with fonts?!?

Some strange things are happening with fonts. The following
picture shows part of the problem. This is only occuring with IE 6.
It doesn't happen in IE 7 or the current firefox. The information
in the silver and white box is the problem. This is being pulled
via spry and being displayed via a div tag. It shouldn't be bold
faced. No code is telling it to bold face, yet it is.

Are you using a fade effect on it? If so, that's an IE bug,
which has several workarounds which include setting the background
color on whatever it is your are fading, or making sure that after
the effect is done (via a finish function) making sure to remove
any opacity related style on the element you just faded in.
This sample also had that problem:
    http://labs.adobe.com/technologies/spry/samples/data_region/DetailRegionEffectsSample.html
but we used the background color trick.

  • Something very strange is happening with the adjustment brush

When I brush over an area of a photo with the adjustment brush, LR does not select all of the area I brushed over, regardless how many times I go over it.  The unselected spots look like pepper sprinkled on mashed potatoes, small dots that will not select, and so will not do whatever effect I'm trying to do. Like if I brush a hillside, the little dots will appear (apparently randomly) If I change the color temp the selected area changes like it should but the little specks do not change.  LR will not select them.  Please help.

Sorry, not the right answer. But thankx for taking a shot. According to
Adobe LR does not have enough pixels when I'm working on a macro subject
(say a butterfly that I'm trying to work on at 2x in the navigator) there
just are not enough pixels. So I have to transfer projects that deal with
micro subject into PS, PS had  no problem detecting the holed and filling
them in, what I've got to do is select using the magic pen or whatever
works best and then make adjustments to the selection. We do that, no
problem.  Then back to LR for larger more general adjustments. I have no
idea why, WHY Adobe would have two programs that work so closely together
and yet not have identical selection abilities. That's a mistake in my book.

  • Something strange is happening: photos are missing

I'm not even sure where to start, but heres some basic info:
My workflow is to import images from my camera via Image Capture to a folder organizational scheme located in my Pictures folder. They're imported into a folder thats named Date & Event. The folders are then kept in a year folder. For example "12/25/2007 - New Years Eve" would be a folder that would reside inside of the 2007 year folder.
I then drag and drop folders from the Pictures folder to iPhoto without copying them. In other words its a referenced library. iPhoto imports them with the folder name becoming the Event name and I keyword and rate them. This system has served me well.
Today, however, I went to export some photos to a folder on the desktop. I chose the ones I wanted and then chose Export from the File menu. I selected Original from the drop down menu and then created a new folder to export to. iPhoto exported a few but then a pop up error popped up and said "the photo 100_2650 could not be opened because the original item cannot be found". Okay, but this a photo I would never get rid of. In fact I rarely ever delete photos completely, I just hide them in iPhoto. To make matters worse, iPhoto pops up to identical error windows, one active and in front of the export dialog window and another behind the export window (took me a while to figure that out. after canceling the frontmost error window I was clicking on the "Cancel" in the Export window but it wasn't active and I just got a system beep).
Now the really weird part. There are a number of these missing photos so iPhoto keeps throwing up the same error messages but not out front where I can click "cancel" or "find photo" but behind the Export dialog box even if I move it. It's like follow the leader. I move the Export dialog to the upper right of the screen, click the Cancel button on the error window and another pops up behind the Export window in the upper right hand corner of the screen.
Now here comes the most bizarre and destructive behavior. I go to find the photo in my Finder folder structure and it's gone. They all are and I know I've never deleted them. So I fire up trusty Time Machine, looking at each day, until I start to find some of the missing photos. I found them (all I think) on Feb 13th of this year. I have no idea what happened that day to produce this. The only thing I've done recently that would involve photos at all is I installed Aperture 2 although I can't remember what day. I can't even remember opening iPhoto in that last couple weeks.
Could Aperture be the culprit? I'm thinking I'm going to have to restore my iPhoto Library from the 12th, which would be okay I guess, I'm just really concerned that something sinister is going on. How are these photos getting deleted?
One more thing, if I export using Current from the drop down menu, it exports just fine. In fact, I can open these missing photos in iPhoto for editing and I can open them in an external editor.
Anyone have any ideas of what's going on?
    Thanks,
    Joe

    JJ:
Did you import your source photos into Aperture? If so did you use the referenced method like you did with iPhoto? It's been reported that Aperture and iPhoto don't play well together unless you're very, very careful on how you configure each. I only played with the Aperture demo a while ago so don't know enough to comment on that. There are some users of both apps here in the iPhoto forum that probably will drop in and give you more specifics. In the meantime I'd be very careful using Aperture.
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 08 libraries and Leopard. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.

  • Strange thing happen with my password

    Dear all,
I just installed Leopard on a new machine (unfortunatly after I did some work, and I hope all is not going to be lost). Once the Leopard installed,I did a restart. Comes to the point when I need to insert a password. I am pretty certain that I put the correct one, as when I dont, the screen does a shaky thing to show that it is the un correct. When I put my password, the Mac seems that it accepts it, the screen change into plain blu for couple of second, just as it was going to take me to the desk, but then comes back into the password question again. NB. It is my very first trial into Leopard, am I missing something ? And if no luck, am I going to lose it all with a reset as explained in this forum ? Thanks for your support,
    Nicolas

Nicolas, if you would have checked the yellow alert box at the top of the Leopard discussions you would have eventually come to this article about your problem.

  • Something strange is happening

Hi all, first of all sorry for my bad English, Spanish is my native tongue. I have a problem with my MacBook Pro Early 2011, if I start it from off state it begins to charge all normal, but in the password screen the mouse pointer starts lagging, if I load from this state the machine lags in all it´s process, but if instead of logging in the password screen I close the top of the screen for about 10 secs, when I re open it, everything becomes normal, no more lagging, I´ve already check the RAM´s and I try to change the hard drive to see if this was the problem, but no! The problem continues.
Hope someone could help me with this problem.
    Cheers!
    Nicolás

    1. This procedure is a diagnostic test. It changes nothing, for better or worse, and therefore will not, in itself, solve the problem. But with the aid of the test results, the solution may take a few minutes, instead of hours or days.
Don't be put off by the complexity of these instructions. The process is much less complicated than the description. You do harder tasks with the computer all the time.
    2. If you don't already have a current backup, back up all data before doing anything else. The backup is necessary on general principle, not because of anything in the test procedure. Backup is always a must, and when you're having any kind of trouble with the computer, you may be at higher than usual risk of losing data, whether you follow these instructions or not.
There are ways to back up a computer that isn't fully functional. Ask if you need guidance.
    3. Below are instructions to run a UNIX shell script, a type of program. As I wrote above, it changes nothing. It doesn't send or receive any data on the network. All it does is to generate a human-readable report on the state of the computer. That report goes nowhere unless you choose to share it. If you prefer, you can act on it yourself without disclosing the contents to me or anyone else.
You should be wondering whether you can believe me, and whether it's safe to run a program at the behest of a stranger. In general, no, it's not safe and I don't encourage it.
In this case, however, there are a couple of ways for you to decide whether the program is safe without having to trust me. First, you can read it. Unlike an application that you download and click to run, it's transparent, so anyone with the necessary skill can verify what it does.
You may not be able to understand the script yourself. But variations of it have been posted on this website thousands of times over a period of years. The site is hosted by Apple, which does not allow it to be used to distribute harmful software. Any one of the millions of registered users could have read the script and raised the alarm if it was harmful. Then I would not be here now and you would not be reading this message. See, for example, this discussion.
Nevertheless, if you can't satisfy yourself that these instructions are safe, don't follow them. Ask for other options.
    4. Here's a summary of what you need to do, if you choose to proceed:
☞ Copy a line of text in this window to the Clipboard.
☞ Paste into the window of another application.
☞ Wait for the test to run. It usually takes a few minutes.
☞ Paste the results, which will have been copied automatically, back into a reply on this page.
The sequence is: copy, paste, wait, paste again. You don't need to copy a second time. Details follow.
    5. Try to test under conditions that reproduce the problem, as far as possible. For example, if the computer is sometimes, but not always, slow, run the test during a slowdown.
You may have started up in "safe" mode. If the system is now in safe mode and works well enough in normal mode to run the test, restart as usual. If you can only test in safe mode, do that.
    6. If you have more than one user, and the one affected by the problem is not an administrator, then please run the test twice: once while logged in as the affected user, and once as an administrator. The results may be different. The user that is created automatically on a new computer when you start it for the first time is an administrator. If you can't log in as an administrator, test as the affected user. Most personal Macs have only one user, and in that case this section doesn’t apply. Don't log in as root.
    7. The script is a single long line, all of which must be selected. You can accomplish this easily by triple-clicking anywhere in the line. The whole line will highlight, though you may not see all of it in the browser window, and you can then copy it. If you try to select the line by dragging across the part you can see, you won't get all of it.
Triple-click anywhere in the line of text below on this page to select it:
    PATH=/usr/bin:/bin:/usr/sbin:/sbin:/usr/libexec;clear;cd;p=(1207 ' 0.5 0.25 1000 1000 15 5120 1000 25000 1 1 0 100 ' 51 25600 4 10 25 5120 102400 1000 25 1000 80 20 500 300 85 25 20480 1024 20     Copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C.
    8. Launch the built-in Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad and start typing the name.
Click anywhere in the Terminal window and paste by pressing command-V. The text you pasted should vanish immediately. If it doesn't, press the return key.
    9. If you see an error message in the Terminal window such as "Syntax error" or "Event not found," enter
    exec bash
and press return. Then paste the script again.
    10. If you're logged in as an administrator, you'll be prompted for your login password. Nothing will be displayed when you type it. You will not see the usual dots in place of typed characters. Make sure caps lock is off. Type carefully and then press return. You may get a one-time warning to be careful. If you make three failed attempts to enter the password, the test will run anyway, but it will produce less information. In most cases, the difference is not important. If you don't know the password, or if you prefer not to enter it, just press return three times at the password prompt. Again, the script will still run.
If you're not logged in as an administrator, you won't be prompted for a password. The test will still run. It just won't do anything that requires administrator privileges.
    11. The test may take a few minutes to run, depending on how many files you have and the speed of the computer. A computer that's abnormally slow may take longer to run the test. While it's running, a series of lines will appear in the Terminal window like this:
    [Process started]
Part 1 of 8 done at … sec
Part 8 of 8 done at … sec
The results are on the Clipboard.
            Please close this window.
    [Process completed]
The intervals between parts won't be exactly equal, but they give a rough indication of progress. The total number of parts may be different from what's shown here.
Wait for the final message "Process completed" to appear. If you don't see it within about ten minutes, the test probably won't complete in a reasonable time. In that case, press the key combination control-C or command-period to stop it. Then go to the next step.
    12. When the test is complete, or if you stopped it because it was taking too long, quit Terminal. The results will have been copied to the Clipboard automatically. They are not shown in the Terminal window. Please don't copy anything from there. All you have to do is start a reply to this comment and then paste by pressing command-V again.
At the top of the results, there will be a line that begins with the words "Start time." If you don't see that, but instead see a mass of gibberish, you didn't wait for the "Process completed" message to appear in the Terminal window. Please wait for it and try again.
If any private information, such as your name or email address, appears in the results, anonymize it before posting. Usually that won't be necessary.
    13. When you post the results, you might see an error message on the web page: "You have included content in your post that is not permitted," or "You are not authorized to post." That's a bug in the forum software. Please post the test results on Pastebin, then post a link here to the page you created.
    14. This is a public forum, and others may give you advice based on the results of the test. They speak only for themselves, and I may not agree with them.

  • Strange thing happened with the screen

I've had my Mac Pro for more almost 18 months.
Today I was in a site and I leave my desk for a moment, when I return the screen was distorted, the colors, like when you zoom in a pic and you see the pixels.... I press the button and it restarted normally.
My question is, do you think this is a virus or something like that? I recently download some templates for my blog.
    Any advice?

    Welcome to Apple Discussions!
Check and see if you might have the NVIDIA chip issue:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS2377
Another possibility is that the Zoom may have accidentally been turned on. (System Preferences>Universal Access>Seeing.)
If it is the NVIDIA problem, Apple should repair it at no cost to you.
    Good luck!

  • Strange thing happens with JTable & JFormattedTextField

    hello,
    again a problem,
in my Jtable i have different JFormattedTextField with a mask for a datefield, everything works fine, for that i made a formatteddateeditor which holds a JFormattedTextField an a renderer which extends a JFormattedTextField and implements the tablecellrenderer.
Now here 's my problem, sometimes when i click on so a field, the mask (__/__/___) dispappears and i got a blank field with the cursor blinking, does anaybody knwo how to do solve this thing ???
    THX
    Tom

Sounds like that field is editable. The renderer renders the display when a field is not
being edited, a TableCellEditor is in charge when the field is edited, and the default
    editor is just a JTextField.

    Hello Forum
Over the past few days and without (I believe) any help from a novice like myself, I have found that I cannot use Bold, Underlining and Spell Check in BT Yahoo Mail.  My OS is Windows 7 Home Premium and version 11 of IE.
Can anyone help an old codger get out of this annoying problem in easy to understand jargon?

Hello IanSally -  I think without doubt that I qualify as an "old codger" so it is with considerable trepidation that I offer you my own experience.  I am not a novice user but I am no expert either and have only found out some things by long hours of triak and error.   Anyway, I too use Windows 7 and Internet Explorer 11 and was having the exact same problem as you.  The solution in my case was to add yahoo.com to list of websites in the "Compatibility View" setting.  To do this, select TOOLS in the menu bar, then select "Compatibility View Settings" from the sub menu.  In the pop up box type in Yahoo.com where it says "add this website"  and click on the Addd button to the right.   Close the box and refresh your browser (press the F5 key)  and try creating a new email.  Hopefully like me you will find that Bold, italic, Underline , strikeout  and all the rest of the formatting thingys work.
I do hope you find this useful - if not please accept my apologies for wasting your time.
If you have time maybe you would be good enough to let us know if it worked for you.
    Kind regards
    Gerry

  • Please explain something strange that happened when I elected to receive an important security update to firefox. Thank You!

I got a notice (pop up) saying I needed an important security update to firefox, so I did it, but it ran for a really long time, and then I saw on the lower action bar that it was transferring information from or to l.collective-media.net; Why?! I "x'd" off the screen quickly; Please explain this too me, thank you.

Sorry I gave this a 'this helped me' but after a long struggle I found some ticked box somewhere from some unauthorised chrome extension blaaa....... the link you gave was great, not only did it confirm all the bad things google is supposed to be up to it provided a better browser. Cheers man.
Anyone who find this; I disabled all extension in chrome. I then searched the word proxy in the settings section. A button came up, "change proxy settings" I clicked on it. Earlier it was greyed out as an extension was interefering.. It brought up a box with my own settings from my computer. Then I clicked LAN settings, then unchecked the 'Use a proxy server' button.
P.S. If you're using chrome, bail, and dowload Komodo Dragon. It's virtually identical, but you're not tracked, and you can use chrome extensions, and you can quickily transfer your chrome preferences into it.

  • A strange thing happened with my 2nd generation nano today.

When I press the selection button to start playing a song, the nano instead starts playing the song that comes after the song I selected. I tried resetting it, but it didn't solve the problem. Has anyone else had this problem, and more importantly, does anyone know how to fix it?

Have you had a chance to look at these troubleshooting pages? They may be of some help:
Troubleshooting songs that skip on iPod
iPod: Troubleshooting songs and audiobooks that won't play
As a last resort try restoring your iPod. Just be aware that restoring will erase the iPod's hard drive, reload the software and put it back to default settings, so if you have songs on your iPod that aren't on iTunes you will lose them if you have no back up. Once the restore is complete follow the on screen instructions and it should connect to iTunes and give you a prompt to automatically update your library onto the fresh installation. If you want to update manually or using selected playlists choose no and it will default to manual mode and you can choose whatever setting you like: Restoring iPod to factory settings with iTunes 7

  • Hello. Whenever I plug in my headphones, the music speeds up, changes, and stops by itself. And then Voice Control starts for no reason. I put back Siri to see if that was the problem and the same thing happened with Siri. How do I fix this?

When I plug in my headphones the music starts to soeed up and stop ayi g by itself. Another issue is when it does stop, Voice Control is on when I don't hold on the home button. I turned on Siri because this is what started my problem (taking off Siri) and it didn't help, instead of Voice Control, Siri started to turn on. I didn't want Siri, so I put Voice Control and disabled it. I did so, and the problem still kept on going. Any ideas on how yo fix it?

I'd guess that the problem is due to a short in your earphones. Try another set.
