Something stuck in Audio Jack

Hi. The tip of the earphone jack piece is stuck in my iPod Classic audio jack. Any suggestions on how to remove it without replacing the whole part?

Oh man, I had this happen to me with another device. I found out the hard way that audio jacks can come apart... as it seems you just did.
It took me about 30min to remove the tip of the jack on that device and it did cause some minor damage to the jack, but the jack still works fine to do this day... and all the "damage" was mostly scratches and such inside the jack itself. I also didn't care much for the device and wasn't very patient, but I'd think with the right tools and more patients you could minimize the damage.
Here's what I did:
I found two thin yet strong metal wires... straight paper clips might work (they did for me), but I found those to be just a little too big. If memory serves there are two "retaining" springs/clips inside the jack. The general goal is to press those clips in to allow the tip to fall out. The problem is that it's a snug fit and even though you'll be able to get the clips out of the way... you won't have enough room to allow it to fall out. Eventually, I did succeed on this but that was after causing some damage to one of the clips, allowing just enough room for the tip to fall out while holding the other clip.
Something else I tried (didn't work other than to place enough damage to allow the above to work) was to take the smallest drill bit I could find and twist it into the socket in an attempt to "grap" the tip just enough to pull it out. this also helped by breaking up the tip a little (removing some small parts) to shrink it enough to allow the above to work. I personally do NOT suggest this until you're prepaired to risk damage to the socket.
The last thing I was going to try (before the above worked) was to take a paper clip and get just a tiny bit of glue on the tip ((OR even use the earphone plug and put glue on that end)), introduce the tip of the paper clip to the tip of the earphone plug and then let it dry, allowing me to pull out the tip. I didn't try this as I didn't have any glue, was a little worried about getting glue in the wrong spot... and I wasn't sure what glue would be best. I would also guess that IF I had used glue and IF it was put in the wrong spot I could have waited for it to dry and then chipped away at it to remove it for another try. Guess though you could also make the problem that much worse, lol.
Basically those retaining springs/clips are you enemy at this point... they're hold the tip in place so you have to get enough force to either pull the tip past them or press them in enough to allow the tip the fall out.
Of course you can always send it in for repair.
Good luck... that's the best I can say.

is there any way for me to remove a broken audio jack stuck in my macbook?

You'll have to get a Dremel motor tool and some fine metal bits, make a jig to hold the Dremel so it's stationary, then a slider jig for the MacBook Pro so the bit can drill into the center of the stuck plug.
Gently push the MBP against the drill bit so it drills into the stuck plug.
Once the hole is drilled down deep enough, use some metal to metal epoxy resin to glue the bit into the drilled hole, then let it set up according to directions.
Take a pair of vise-grips and get a good grip on the bit portion sticking out and gently pull it straight out, if you bend or twist, you can snap off the bit.

  • Audio Jack Stuck on Input (MBP 13" Mid 2010)

    Hello,
The audio jack on my Mid 2010 MacBook Pro is stuck on "input" mode. Whenever I plug in headphones and change the setting to output and try to put a signal through it (like changing the volume using the F11 and F12 keys), the computer freezes and resets the audio jack setting to input again. I know that the headphones are not the problem since they work fine with other MacBooks and my iPhone, and I have tried other headphones and gotten the same result. I'm running OSX 10.9.
Any ideas on how to fix this?
    Thanks in advance.

  • 3.5 mmm jack tip stuck in audio-in port

tip broke off in port, now can't get anything else in - has this ever happened to anyone before and if so how on earth do you get it out?

    Hi steve64k
Grab a flashlight, a magnifying glass and a really really small set of drill bits, then look real real close into the iMac's audio jack. Most 3.5mm jacks have a hollow center and if your real lucky you can get the right size drill bit to catch in the hole and extract the broken piece. If your not so lucky, then I'm afraid it will need to go to an Apple Authorized Service Provider or Apple Store for service.

Warning: Be for you go poking around disconnect the power cord and lay the iMac face down on a towel to make it easier to see.

  • Kernel Panic plus a Red Light from Audio jack

First off, I'm gettin a Kernel panic EVERY SINGLE time I boot into Macintosh. This is not good. I can't access my Mac partition at all, and now I'm stuck with using Windows.
Secondly, there's this red light that's coming out of my Audio jack. I've done some research and I've already inserted a toothpick and tried to toggle a 'switch' or something, but the red light hasn't gone away. I'm still without any sound.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Alright, here's a snapshot of the Kernel Panic message:

  • Headphone tip stuck in headphone jack no sound comes out or goes in, what should i do?

i just got my macbook pro unibody, and first time i insert headphone in the jack the little piece of the head phone gets stuck in the jack. what should i do ? Does the warranty cover that kind of stuff( cause i think they should) or is there a solution? anything, please help!!

I had the same problem.  I tried tweezers, glue and neither worked.  If you can, bring it into the Apple Store.
Otherwise, a cheap fix so you can use headphones/earbuds:
I bought a USB to headphone jack adapter and it worked well.  This is the one I got:
Syba SD-CM-UAUD USB Stereo Audio Adapter
    http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B001MSS6CS/ref=oh_details_o01_s00_i00?ie=UTF8&p sc=1
I'm sure many other similar adapters would work too.
It didn't require any device drivers, it was plug and play.
Once you plug it in, go to System Preferences, Sound, and click the Output tab at the top of the dialog box.  Then select: C-media USB audio device
Your headphones should work now, but I think your internal speakers will remain inaccessible until you get your MacBook repaired.

  • Audio Jack in front not working.

Hi, when I bought my HP Pavilion p6823w Desktop PC, from walmart I hooked it up correctly.  When I booted for the first time, I got a Blue Screen of Death, and the problem system repair said it was my IPOD cord was plugged into a USB port.  Without the IPOD hooked up to it.  I couldn't boot up, so I ran the system repair.  the reason I didn't take it back to Wal-mart was because it worked fine without the Internet when I booted up again.  I also bought a Belkin Wireless N Adapter for my Router.  It worked fine with the internet.
Please read the whole thing, because this is all relative to why my audio jack isn't working. Thank you.
Until I started using the internet for long periods of time, I received problems.
For instance, it would disconnect me from the internet without telling me on the bottom side bar, it would tell me it's still working, when I keep getting web pages that are telling me the Internet Server is not found.
Another instance, when playing League of Legends, my latency would go up to 10,000. This is not normal.
The third instance, it would let me still play the game, but have high latency and lag out eventually.
The fourth instance, I cannot download any files on the computer anymore, even if the internet is connected.
The fifth instance, my monitor when it goes to sleep, will only display the background image, without any icons.
This must be a hardware problem, if the monitor won't load the desktop icons or start menu.
To make it work again, I have to turn it off manually with the button, and turn it back on again. And then it works.
I didn't notice this problem till after the 30 days of returning policy to walmart, because I turned off my computer when I was done using it.
The sixth instance, I can disable the network adapter, and re-enable it to make the internet work for a very short period of time, with the same errors of not being able to display web sites.
The seventh instance, I reformatted my computer because I thought it was a virus that norton couldn't find. It still had the same problems, but after the first few days it started up again.
The eighth instance, I received w WinSAT repair, because my game was freezing completely for about one second or two seconds.
The ninth instance, I contacted HP Support VIA Phone, and they could not fix the problem.
I enabled High Performance Power Supply.
    I reset the IP Address.
    I cleaned my temporary files.
I ran Norton Anti-Virus, found nothing.
I ran Hijack This, a program to see what program files are being used.
I ran HITMAN PRO. Found nothing.
I ran firmware updates for my router, is was up to date.
I changed the settings to WEP after, to see if it was the router.
I checked all my other computers to see if it was the internet, it is not the ISP.
I also changed the network name, so the interference with temporary files, wouldn't interfere.
I used other browsers, and had the same problem.
Some websites would load halfway, and need a refresh.
I have not opened the desktop.
I tried exchanging the Belkin Wireless N Adapter, I had an older one I bought before, and when I plug it in, it doesn't recognize the device.
I re-plugged the new one in the USB port, and it worked for a few minutes before returning to the same errors of Internet Server Not Found.
I am confused, because it's not the Wireless N Adapter. My browser, my ISP, my router, my USB port, because the other's work and so does this one.
My reformat didn't work, and I experience this problem everyday, but now downloading files doesn't work even when all other web pages load. This means, there is something wrong with my hardware.  Because the other browsers won't download either.
I'm also using my laptop right now, to make this post, so my internet on all my other computers works fine.
I'm interested if there is a problem with the hardware when I bought the computer, because there is no real fix for this problem.  Each time I get on the phone with TECH SUPPORT, they ask if it's working. And sometimes it does, but then after a few hours it goes back to the same errors. I can't keep calling Tech Support, telling them it's not working when it starts working randomly, then going back to the same errors. Please help!
Also, TECH SUPPORT ignored my monitor problem.  They didn't say anything about how to fix this problem. I hate having to turn off the monitor and turn it back on because this is  a brand new computer. I still have the receipt, warranty and I'm tired of explaining the problem to different people from TECH SUPPORT.
Also, my audio jack in the front doesn't work.

    Hi,
Did you burn a set of the HP Recovery Disks?  You mentioned that the reformat failed. Is that correct? Did you try a full HP Recovery?  If not, then backup your data to external media.  Boot up to the HP Blue screen and first try diagnostics and see how that goes.  If that is successful, then boot again up to the HP blue screen and try Recovery.
If you don't have a set of the HP Recovery Disks and the Recovery process fails from the HP blue screen then you need to order a set of the HP Recovery Disks from HP. HP Recovery Disks.

  • IPhone 5 audio jack problems

My iPhone 5 audio jack seems like it's broken or something. Every time I put my headphones in and I move them a little bit the music either pauses, changes into a different volume , only plays on one side ,or sounds like static. Is is broken? If so can it be fixed? Also it isn't the earbuds since it did the same thing when I use a brand new pair!

Bring your phone to Apple for evaluation.  If defective, it will be replaced (free of charge if within the warranty period)

  • Audio jack no longer fits

I have a brookstone Weather-Resistant Indoor/Outdoor Wireless Speaker that has always connected to my iPhone 3Gs with no problems - I recently upgraded everything and all of the sudden the audio jack will not fit into the iPhone like it always has done before - it goes in but will not snap into place. There is nothing in the audio hole on the iPhone - is it even possible for a firmware update to cuase this problem?

How could a firmware update conceivably change the size of the headset jack, (or any other aspect of the phone hardware)? Are you serious??
Either there is debris in the jack you don't see, or the plug has become bent or corroded. Did you try plugging in something else like the iPhone headset? If that fits, the problem is with the speaker plug. If not, the problem is in the jack, and you should blow it out with canned air (never by mouth).

  • External Speaker Static: Problem with audio jack?

I don't believe that anyone on the forums had the same question.
I am having trouble with my macbook pro.  Whenever I plug in external speakers, I get bad static (very loud, about as loud as the speaker's audio itself).  I have tested this on multiple speakers and get the same results on all of them.  When used on another computer, the speakers work fine.  This suggests that it is something wrong with my audio jack for my mac.
I noticed that the 3.5 mm plug doesn't go all the way into the jack.  There is about a millimeter millimeter or two of space This isn't much, but may be resulting in the static.  I have tried forcing the plug all the way in, but it still does not go in.  Any ideas?
I am trying to avoid having to get a bluetooth speaker or anything wireless.

Headphones don't induce grounding problems like external speakers. I am guessing the external speakers were all amplified speakers, with built-in amps and some sort of mains power supply. Perhaps you also have some peripherals such as a display connected to the Macbook Pro.
Try this: disconnect all peripherals from the MBP (including the Magsafe power plug) except the external speakers and see if you get static. I will also guess that the static is more of a whine/buzz that changes whenever the computer does something different.
If this works, then you have a common ground problem. The cheapest way to solve this is a Radio Shack ground loop isolator on the speaker cable,

High fidelity versions are also available, more like $300USD.
