Something stuck under my n82 screen

hi, i droppped my phone and the screen sort of snapped/popped up a bit creating a gap between the top layer and the screen. something got in , looks like a small bit of dirt or wood, and i clicked the screen back into place without noticing. now ive got this thing under my screen and i dont know how to get it out! is there a technique to deliberatly popping the top plastic screen layer???

Don't do that, the screen is NOT user-exchangeable. Having dropped the phone, this issue is not covered by warranty but you might in the future have an issue that is, and if you have self-repaired a phone you could invalidate your warranty completely. Best leave it to the professionals.
I've changed mine three times so it It is exchangeble but it is best to leave it to Nokia technicians @ Care Points.

  • Not a dead pixel.....but actually something stuck under the screen

I just got home from the Apple Store where they swapped out my iPhone because on some phone calls there would be a crackling sound like the earpiece in the phone was blown or something. I got home and was getting it set up and on white screens a see a little dark dot. I thought it might be a dead pixel but when you turn it off and look at the screen and turn it just right you can actually see something underneath the glass. I don't want to be a pain but this is really going to bug me. Should I take it back again?

Yes I have had this problem
The first phone I had, had a "stuck" pixel (it was always whiteish/blueish/greenish on any black/dark background). It was only one pixel but they exchanged it.
The next had another bad pixel and a piece of lint or something...they exchanged it again, though this took some arguing and second opinions. Finally I found the manager who agreed with me unlike the guy at the "genius" bar.
This one AGAIN had Many pieces of noticeable debris. They exchanged this one right away, no questions.
Now I'm on my 4th phone haha and it has Several "stuck" pixels. Around 5 or 6 actually noticeable ones. Its really driving me nuts. I want to have a phone with a good screen and have all this exchanging nonsense to be over. It also has another piece of dust you can see on white screens and when the phone is off.
I brought it in and they said to give it a few weeks and see if it gets better or worse. I said okay and left. It's just too upsetting for me. The thing was over 600 bucks. I'm going to another apple store tomorrow. Hopefully they can fix or replace it with one I can examine before I leave.
Did they replace yours with a good one?

  • Something may be stuck under "ctrl" key

The right side of my ctrl key doesn't move when I press the key. If I press the left side, then that half goes down, but I get no response from the computer. I can only assume that there is something stuck under the key.
While this isn't exactly imperative - I use that key only as part of a hotkey combination to access other programs - I would prefer to have a fully functioning keyboard.
Can Macbook keys "lock up"; that is, have they been known to have a malfunction in the hinges beneath them?
Is there some way I can remove the key?
What are some suggestions for looking under or safely removing something stuck under there?
    Thanks in advance.

It pains me even mentioning this, but take a look at this set of visuals on removing a key:

Before that, however, I'd use a blower as a less invasive way of dealing with the troublesome key. Easily available, online and on the street. Hold down the keys surrounding the Control key, and shoot quick bursts on all sides. Do it upside-down, too, while a friend holds the keyboard steady.

  • HP Mini Ability To View Win 8 Metro Under Its MAX Screen Resolution When Released :(

This is just a question and I know it has got to be posted many, many time somewhere. I absolutely love the Mini and when I had some issues after my purchase a few months ago, the fantastic support agent even said when the actual Win 8 is released,  it will be so cool on it. Well, one major problem I never caught. While the Mini Desktop portion of Win 8 Consumer preview works great, the HP Mini ability to view Win 8 Metro under Its MAX screen resolution is not possible. Now I know HP does not support the consumer preview as of yet but am I just out of luck by the release date? Will there be some kind of patch or ability for current Mini buyers to use Win 8 Metro when released? I asked this question in a Win 8 forum and the response I got was just that Notebooks are not designed for these kinds of features and are simple in nature. I agree but that is backward having a small device that will not be able to use Windows 8 except on its Desktop and furthermore, something tells me that Minis after 2013 will?  Help....

Anyway, I know there is nothing that can be done about it-its just frustrating knowing that in about 7 months, the upgrade will not mean much to these minis and pretty much a new unit within 12 months of an OS release. I doubt MS will lower the resolution rate but the 600 is right at that line for many programs as well. I never would have thought-I am just stuck and was hoping the 210 would be compatible to an OS that is supposed to be friendly with the smaller devices-now this is ironic.

  • Network Install stuck at apple gray screen

    Hi,
I set up 1 IMac and make a network install image of it by booting the IMac as target mode, then run system image utility to create the network install.
Then i turn on netboot and i tried to boot the other IMac that connected to the network via netboot so it'll be installed and configured as the initial IMac. However it stuck at the grey screen for 30 minutes.
    Am I doing something wrong?
    Any help is greatly appreciated!
    Thanks,

Sounds like the issue we're having over in the System Imaging forum
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=929625&tstart=0
there's a solution that seems to work for most people and that's to manually copy CoreVideo.framework in to the image. Details under the link.

  • Application stuck under menu toolbar

An application I'm running (Filezilla FTP client) is stuck under the mac menu toolbar. I can't grab the toolbar of the application to move it or access what I need to access. I've researched this issue and other people have had the same problem, but none of their solutions have worked for me. I've tried changing the resolution of my screen, disconnecting my dual monitor, "zoom" is not available in the program I'm working with, and I've tried a multitude of expose/spaces/random key commands to no avail. Any other ideas?
    Using 10.9.5

I can't see from your screenshot if there available screen space around the window. You could try dragging the window down from one of the bottom edge - making it smaller first if necessary (when the cursor is near the edge it has double arrow that indicates changing the window size), then make sure that your mouse is enough inside the window that the cursor is a normal one-arrow and drag it down. Repeat if necessary until the title bar reappears.

  • I have some forms stuck under the menu bar on Mac Mountain Lion

I have a stock market program and two of their forms have become stuck under the menu bar.  Closing the program doesnn't help because when it's restarted it returns to the exact same spot and I can't reach the close buttons.  I've tried changing the screen res put that doesn't help.   Any ideas?

Bob ~ Try this: Close the stock market app. Then  menu > System Preferences... > General pane > Check "Close windows when quitting an application":
...Then open, close and re-open the stock market app. If that doesn't help, use the camera icon to post a screenshot so we can see what you're referring to:

  • Title Bar stuck under the Menu bar and I cannot select and move it.

I often arrange windows around the desktop and sometimes I inadvertently push a window up too far and the title bar gets under the menu bar. Once I let go of the arrow, the title bar is too far under the menu bar and I can no longer reach it to move it down. The only solution is to close out the program and start over. Is there a way unbeknownst to me to select the title bar again and move it?
    Sharon

My E*Trade streaming watch list was stuck under the Menu Bar also. I tried reseting the screen resolution down to 1280 x 1024, and restarting the MarketTrader. There on the display was the stuck window, out from under. I resized and moved it to a central location, and resized the display back to my normal 1920 setting. And to my relief, the window Bar! Thanks Discussion!

  • Window on mac is stuck under menu bar

window on mac is stuck under menu bar

In case this happens to anyone else (and searching the web, it seems fairly common), the application that was having this problem for me was iTunes.  Stuck under the menu bar, no way to move it.  I could get it to go full screen, but going back to a window put it in the same stuck position. Quitting and restarting the application didn't help.
Finally found a solution that worked for me (2013 MacBook Air, Mavericks);  I usually have an external monitor plugged in when I'm at home, which enabled the following:
I right-clicked the iTunes icon in the Dock, went to "Options" in the popup menu, and selected "Assign to Desktop on Display 2" (which is my Air's built-in screen).  I then started the application, and it opened in the middle of the Air screen.  After that I could move it anywhere (and I reassigned it to "All Desktops" from Options).
    Hope this helps someone...

  • App stuck under Menu Bar after Unlock

Random application's Title bars are getting stuck under the Menu Bar at the top left of the screen after I unlock my Air.  Attempts to drag the window to a different location results in them snapping back to the original position.  The only fix is to close the application and restart.
Anyone else seeing this?  Could this be an Accessibility option that's on that shouldn't be?

I ended up re installing Mavericks after the last update (10.9.1) from a bootble USB stick. The problem appears to have gone away, so maybe my original upgrade of Mavericks caused the problem???
I downloaded Mavericks again from the app store. When it had finished downloading (approx 5Gb) I exited the installer and created a bootable USB (needs to be 8GB minimum). Then booted from USB and ran the Mavericks installer. As I said problem seems to have disappeared......
I used this article http://www.macworld.com/article/2056561/how-to-make-a-bootable-mavericks-install -drive.html and used the method in Option 1 in the article to create the drive. A Synopsis of the steps are:
Format the USB using Disk Utility to Mac OS Extended with GUID partition.
Open Terminal and paste the following command press Return and enter admin password when prompted
    sudo /Applications/Install\ OS\ X\ Mavericks.app/Contents/Resources/createinstallmedia --volume /Volumes/Untitled --applicationpath /Applications/Install\ OS\ X\ Mavericks.app --nointeraction
It takes a while to create and copy the installer. (Could be up to 30 mins)
Finally reboot and hold down Option key while computer boots then select the USB drive.

  • My MB Air is stuck on a grey screen each time I put my password in

    Hello,
When I start up my MB Air and put my password in, it just goes to a grey screen and gets stuck there. Occasionally it does come on, but mostly it does not.
I have a Macbook Air 2011 using OSX Mavericks 10.9.3
    Here are some possible causes:
I think it could have something to do with Safari and Firefox, which I've had problems with lately:
Safari - Since I've had this problem with logging on, Safari wasn't working properly. I could only get onto the home pages of websites, and nothing more. Nothing happened when I clicked on links, and I couldn't type anything into Google. I since fixed this problem by disabling an extension.
Firefox - Lately whenever I've opened Firefox, it has automatically gone to an update, failed the update, and then went to Firefox. The first time I was able to get onto my computer Firefox went into a major update which took ten minutes to download, and then Firefox crashed, and now the Firefox icon looks different (it looks like a piece of paper with a ruler pencil and paintbrush).
Also, my computer Hard Drive memory only has 5.3 GB left, and I always get messages saying my disk is almost full.
In any case, this stuff about Safari, Firefox and my disk space is just suggestions of problems I've been having lately, but my main problem is that I keep getting stuck on the grey screen (I can worry about Firefox and the hard drive later).
So any help at all would be appreciated, on how to reliably get my computer started again!
    Thanks!

This procedure is a diagnostic test. It’s unlikely to solve your problem. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
The purpose of the test is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party software that loads automatically at startup or login, by a peripheral device, by a font conflict, or by corruption of the file system or of certain system caches.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards, if applicable. Start up in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. You must hold down the shift key twice: once when you turn on the computer, and again when you log in.
Note: If FileVault is enabled in OS X 10.9 or earlier, or if a firmware password is set, or if the startup volume is a software RAID, you can’t do this. Ask for further instructions.
Safe mode is much slower to start up and run than normal, with limited graphics performance, and some things won’t work at all, including sound output and Wi-Fi on certain models. The next normal startup may also be somewhat slow.
The login screen appears even if you usually login automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
Test while in safe mode. Same problem?
After testing, restart as usual (not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of the test.

  • I tried to eject a cd, didn't work so I turned off the computer and now it keeps getting stuck at the gray screen. How do I fix it?

Here are a few more details. I put in a game cd for a windows computer, once I opened the folder on the desktop I noticed the install application was .exe so I tried to eject the cd but no matter what I tried on the computer it wouldn't come out. I will say though that I didn't try the manual cd eject cause I didn't have anything small to hit the button in the cd drive with. It was getting late so we decided to just turn off the computer and leave it for the next day. I can't remember if we turned the computer off with apple shut down or by holding down the power button but we walked away pretty quickly before it was fully shut down. The next day the computer won't turn on. When I walked into the room I was the computer stuck with a grey background with the apple logo showing and the circular thing under it frozen. Since no one was in the room I held down the power button and turned the computer off. We tried to start the computer again later but again it keeps getting stuck at the same spot. Now when we hold the power button down to turn it off I'm not sure if it's really turning off all the way. The screen goes dark but it sounds like the fan is still going. I tried disconnecting everything but the keyboard and mouse but when I started it up again it got stuck on the grey screen with just the apple logo. I'd really apprechiate help on this cause I live in Germany right now and support call centers work so much worse when you don't speak the language well... Thanks for any help you can give!

Restart your computer while holding down left mouse key. That will eject the CD and your Mac will start as normal.
