Something using my internet usage ????

Hi all, this may be a strange one, but i have contacted my operater and they were no help, so i thought i would let you guys give it a bash
For some reason, something on my BBcurve is eating into my bandwidth every night at 00:00.01
So 1 second past midnight every night, it conects to blackberry.net and does something, i cant work out what thou.
I wouldnt mind but most nights its in the region of 5-8 meg  so its using something like 50% of mu usage allowance every month.
i only go the phone 2 weeks ago, so need help, i cant find anything that uses this, i have no apps to speak of that might need to connect, unless one of them is checking for updates, but still this wouldn't happen every night, i thought maybe BB lumped together email retrieval but as you can see, this would be 100's to use 8 meg, and so far i have received about 15 emails in the 2 weeks.
Any ideas on a setting i could check or a way of stopping the BB from connecting without my say so ???
Or is their something that is using this usage from BB services ??
thanks all,

Well, its all a guessing game on my end...  Go check out an old app called MiniMon, and see if it will show you what the data is uploading/downloading to?

No, it's on your local network,

If I leave Safari running in the background with zero tabs open, does it still use up bandwidth?  Do I have to quit the application each time I am done to avoid exceeding my internet usage/host quota?  I'd rather not have to since quitting the application and restarting it when I need to will quickly become tedious, but if that saves me on bandwidth usage, I'll do it.  Thanks!

  • Does Using Co Pilot use up my internet usage

Hi if I use my CoPilot software on my iphone when I am abroad does it use up my internet usage - ie does it cost me money !! Or is it like a Sat Nav that does not use internet and so is free to use ??
Also what about Google Maps, does that use up Mb's ??
    thanks

CoPilot will not use the internet to display the maps, BUT it will use the internet for the other services it provides which need data to update. Not sure how much it will use, but it will be some.
Google Maps uses the internet to download everything including maps, it is a BIG data user.

    zedzed,
    Here's another thought.
Navigate to HD > Users > Library > Safari: Make a duplicate of History.plist.
To duplicate the file, click once to highlight it. Press the Command + D keys.
Drag the History, plist copy file to the Desktop.
Highlight it. Press the Command + I keys, to get info.
    Change Open With to TextEdit.
When you open the file in TextEdit, it will be difficult to read, but you will be able to pick out some sites.

  • Internet Usage Gone Amok!

Hi all (and Tesserax if you're online, you know the history of my problem!). I am posting this here because I can't find another forum which seems appropriate.
Short version: for two weeks we've been aware that our internet usage has been exceeding our use. We have two iMacs networked in a small office, both are running Snow Leopard.
We have tried eliminating what we thought the issue was - namely that someone had hijacked our wireless somehow.  So: we installed a new D-Link router (which is WPA encrypted AND then the entire wireless radio disabled), and we have a new cable modem from our ISP, along with a new virus program (Intego Virus Barrier X6). We scanned both computers and Intego found one virus (a file called 1024.dmg which had been on one of our computer's hard drives since 2008!) and one attempted port scan, which was blocked. Other than that, there has been no suspicious activity reported.
I called an Intego technician who assured me that their software would catch anything out of the ordinary and so therefore it can't be anything on our computers. The Intego guy said that only a trojan would be capable of doing something like this, but again, VirusBarrier would catch that. Also Interesting to note: it's the downloads that are extraordinary, while the uploads are consistent with our day to day business.
Even with all of these things up and running, we're still experiencing spikes in our internet use that has us and our ISP puzzled. Two days in the past month we weren't even in the office at all and there were 6 gigabyte spikes on record!  However, our computers were on, but in deep sleep mode.  Something fishy...could someone be hacking in even with our computers in sleep mode????
My ISP mentioned that they have a client who's son let their bit torrent open and someone was downloading off of their internet access, running up the father's bill to $900. From what I understand, bit torrent is a P2P protocol. We don't do ANY file sharing that isn't between the two computers on our LAN.
is there any way that someone can get in that way?  On my computer, I have file sharing, printer sharing and scanner sharing enabled.
Oh - and we thought that maybe our ISP's usage tracking was off, so for three days we unplugged our ethernet cable to test. Then we checked the usage for those three days and there was nothing.  So something is definitely happening on our end, but we're beside ourselves trying to figure this out! I am wondering if anyone can assit me here.  Tesserax has been very kind in offering suggestions - if you have any more, I'd appreciate it!
    thanks
    B.

    Hi Tesserax.
Already did it: the numbers are a combined total from both computers.
Further to me posting that last note, I did some online research and found scores of complaints on different internet forums commenting on the exact same problem I've had AND with the same ISP.  There is a general consensus that their internet meter is faulty.
AND: I found articles where Bell has actually admitted to having faulty metering.  So this is nothing new.  What irks me is that the earliest post I found is from 2009 and no one at my ISP even mentioned that this could be the issue!  Nor does it seem that they're in any hurry to rectify the problem.
In some cases, their numbers are astronomical - 56gb per day even!
At least it's not on my end and that we don't have a hacker, which was my real concern.
But worth posting in case others come across the same issue and think, like me, that someone is stealing their wireless.
Anyway, thanks again for all your help.
    B.

  • Is there anyway to track our internet usage on the airport?, is there anyway to track our internet usage on the airport?

Hi. We recently have subsriced to Satelite internet connection in North Yorkshire. The satellite connection is limited to a 13gig download limit and was wondering if there was a way to track our usuage as a whole - which are two laptops, i-phones and i-pad - by using the apple airport? Or any other way that people may know of.
Thanks for your time in advance!

I have the same need which I assume is growing for many and thus done some research in this area. Apparently, applications such as NetUse and iNet Network have been able to measure total internet usage on the Airport Extreme, until recently.
Unfortunately, 6.x Airport firmware updates have eliminated something called SNMP Monitoring which has undermined the ability for these apps to measure the traffic. Very frustrating!
To my knowledge, SurplusMeter only tracks internet usage on one computer which is of limited use in a multi-device environment.

Sorry for asking the obvious but are you a Bell Sympatico customer? I think, but may be wrong, that this usage meter only works for Bell Sympatico customers. Nice to eliminate the obvious first before continuing with troubleshooting.

My iPhone 5 won't use 3G when 4G isn't available. I live in the middle of nowhere, but with my iPhone 4 I could use the Internet on 3G just fine without needing wifi. Now I don't get anything unless I'm on wifi. My phone says '4G' but then says 'could not activate cellular data' or gives me the gray google failed because you dont have internet page. I have AT&T if that matters. I just want to get Internet and my email like I used to be able to. Slow 3G is fine with me, but I need it to work on my iPhone 5. Can anyone help me?

Oh ok, thank you! So I just got a bum SIM card when I bought this phone or something?

  • HT4623 iPhone stop letting me make calls, texts and use the Internet. Can power off and turn back on only to be able to use it for a few minuets and it seems to only happen at home.

April 02 I got home about 9am and was trying to use my phone to send a text and notice that I was unable to send one. I kept getting the red ! telling me that my text wasn't sent so I tried making a call without success. I kept getting call failed. So I attempt to look something in the Internet and I would either get the busy icon or the network timed out message.  So I thought my service had been disconnected for some reason so I called AT&T to explain what was going on and to find out if my service had been interrupted without me knowing about it and the cust rep had me power down the phone and turn it back on and test it out and it appeared to be working until I got back home and it started all over again. I found myself having to power it off and on just so I could do things with it. Today I come to realize that this problem seem to only happen when I am home. I don't know what has changed at my home to cause this to be happening. I don't know what to do to fix this problem. Do anyone know what it could be.

Settings > General > Reset > Reset Network Settings.
If the problem continues, contact the carrier to report the issue again and insist they investigate network issues in your area.

  • After loading firefox on workstation, I am no longer able to use the internet on my laptop or kindle

We have a wireless connection and ever since I downloaded firefox on my workstation I can not use the internet on my laptop or kindle. Do I need to disable or enable something?

    Hi,
    Try the following.
Download the IDT Audio installer on the link below and save it to your Downloads folder.
    http://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp50501-51000/sp50856.exe
When done, open windows Control Panel, open Device Manager and open up Sound, Video and Game Controllers.  Right click the IDT device and select Uninstall - you should also get a prompt to remove the current driver, tick the box to allow this and then proceed with the uninstall.
When complete, restart the notebook and let Windows fully load.  Open your Downloads folder, right click on the IDT installer and select 'Run as Administrator' to start the installation.  When this has completed, restart the notebook again.

  • Nokia 6210 Problems with using Edge (Internet Conn...

I have a Nokia 6210 phone bought from an authorized Nokia Care Center in Delhi, India two weeks ago.  The software version on the phone is 3.08 dated 11-June 2008. It also mentions custom version as 03.08.c00.01
I am an Airtel Prepaid customer in New Delhi, India and had been using Mobile Office service on my prepaid number for some time. It worked perfectly fine for my Nokia 6233. On my current Nokia 6210 the Internet connection works fine for the first time through the built in browser or though any other application (like Google Maps, Gmail etc) which required internet and displays the sign signifying that the edge connection is active.
The problem is that once I close the application the standby sign for Edge network is displayed as follows and no matter what I am unable to use the internet connection on the phone again until I do the following
Restart the phone (which definitely isn’t a good option)
Wait for around 8-10 minutes after which the Edge on hold sign disappears and is replaced by which means that the edge is available
I found this out accidentally, but if I press the keys *123# which I typically use for enquiring balance, the on hold sign goes away and is replaced by the Edge available sign. after which things work fine.
Not sure where the problem is. I really doubt it’s got to do something with Airtel as the same number worked perfectly fine with my previous Nokia phone in the same area. In addition my wife’s phone (again an Airtel prepaid number) is working great in the same area. So either this has got to do something with the handset or the compatibility of the handset with the Airtel, New Delhi.
I have tried various sets of setting from the following sources
The wizard in built in the handset
Getting the settings from the Nokia site
Getttng the settings from Airtel Customer Care
But with all of them I am facing the same set of problems.
Wanted to check if anybody out you have ever faced a similar problem with this phone or one in a simlar series?

I suggest that you don't make permanent coupling between devices. Looks like Nokia modem is more responsive when you need to manually accept every connection at the phone's end.

  • Doing a 30 minute video created 15 Gigabyte of Internet usage. Why? And how can I stop this!

Created a small, simple 30 minute video. Burned a few CDs. Downloaded one (1) sound track (a few MB). Internet usage soared to an unbelievable 15 GB!
All data, files, etc on my PC, yet Premiere Elements used the Internet constantly, especially when burning CDs.
Why? There was nothing to upload or download (except 1 sound track). This maxed my Internet allowance, and has cost me a lot of cash for extra capacity.
How can I stop this data gluttony.
Or do I have to junk a new, expensive program? (Premiere Elements 13.

    Contacted support.
They say that this is 'impossible'!!!
Went for Option 2. Accept one-time waste of Internet capacity. Write it off to painful experience. Junked Premiere Elements 13.
    Problem solved.

  • Uninstalled something, lost my internet driver, need HELP

To be exact and detailed, I recently uninstalled something called "Qualcomm Atheros Killer Network Manager" , after doing some research, I was suggest to uninstall it, but only found out upon deleting it, also deleted my internet driver.
I'm mainly looking for a way to download the internet driver again for my laptop, and the best way to describe my laptop is that I bought it back in 2014, and it was a MSI model, and Windows 8.
Unless there is any I can access more information and details on my laptop, please suggest it here and I'll try my hardest.
Other wise I can't access internet on my laptop, I've tried to look around on the internet for a driver, but I've came up short every time.

    Quote from: kevin_h92 on 07-May-15, 09:30:29
I managed to restore my computer to before I uninstalled it.
So I'm using my internet for a bit, is there anyway for me to check my computer specs and everything to be exact?
I am not sure what do you expect when you say everything to be exact? If you mean having all the driver be installed properly, then just check device manager and see if any missing driver. If there is concern about incorrect driver installation, do not worry about that. System restore brings the previous system status back to you and it changes nothing to your data files.

I do not have any VPN enabled?

Do you happen to have an Android?  If so and depending on what version there is a great data usage analyse tool built-in.  See if you can go to Settings -> Data Usage  from there you can pick a current or previous billing cycle and then use the vertical sliders to select a date range and it will filter the usage data per app to show you exactly what app(s) were using data during that time frame.
