Is the complete error message "Sorry, something went wrong and Word was unable to start. (40)" and “Sorry, something went wrong and Word was unable to start. (2)”?
I agree with Sunil Shrikant Vyasasamudra. First you can repair Office from Control Panel > Programs and Features, maybe Office installation is corrupt.
If it doesn’t work, you can try “Fix it” tool in the KB below.

MS Word 2013 unable to start. "Sorry, something went wrong and word was unable to start. (6)

I am trying to open MS Word 2013. I have purchased the MS Office online and pay a subscription. When opening MS Word, it comes up with the error message "Sorry, something went wrong and word was unable to start. (6)" This appears to be happening
with all MS office applications. Can someone please help?

I faced this same problem and reinstalled office several times but no luck, then followed below steps and got my issue resolved:
Solution is that you run word in "Administrative" mode:
To run the Word program in administrator mode, try the step below:
· go to Computer, Programs files/Program files X (86).
· Look for Microsoft Office ->Office 15.
· Look for Winword.exe
· Right click on it and click
Properties
· Click on the Compatibility tab
and check the box forRun as admin.
· Clickok.

Ok this is just so annoying.
Whenever I try to open Word, it gives the error "Sorry, something went wrong and Word was unable to start.(6)". Other office applications either freeze or crash. Only Excel works fine. Running Win7 64 bit.
Tried all possible ways of installation/reinstallation. Did repair, uninstalled and reinstalled manually, uninstalled with FixIt from Microsoft, removed every leftover thing from registry. Also removed some other applications that I thought could cause this
problem for Office.
Uninstalled 64 bit Office, and installed 32 bit, same exact problems.
!!!Don't suggest me to run as administrator please!!!

According to your description, I suppose that Word 2013 was blocked by some other applications after you opening it.
Which operation system do you use? Have you installed the Office 2013 SP1?
Then, we try to do some tests to narrow down the issue:
1. Collect the Event log

Sorry, something went wrong and word was unable to start (40)

so recently, my ms word has not been working at all. It doesn't work, whether I open a new document or an existing file, and it shows the error message 'sorry, something went wrong and Word was unable to start. (40). It only started to show up recently,
and i was wondering if it was because i have not yet updated to the latest version of Windows 8, which i have been unable to do successfully. I have already tried to open in safe mode, and the fix it tool. Does anyone have any idea what i can do?

Repair your Office suites in Control panel>Program and features>Office>Change>Repair
If the repair doesn't work, please uninstall the current installed Office, and reinstall it again.

Same here, wife has been using her Facebook app all day, mine keeps giving me this stupid message, and this is the only other post any where i can find about this issue, thats not from 2010 or 2011. Guess its just going to have to be worked out, if its not resolved soon i guess ill just delete the app.

Project Online - Sorry, something went wrong when trying to load PWA

When trying to load a Project Online instance (a new deployment in this case), we get the 'Sorry, something went wrong' error message.
I tried to provision another PWA site (PWA2), and the same error occurs.

Providing it has provisioned correctly in the SharePoint Site Collection admin page, there isn't a lot you can do other than raise a support ticket via the Office 365 tenant. If these are new blank PWA instances, try switching the permission modes, see if
that helps.

Hi group,
i have major problems with the OVI suite. I registered an account, but I am not able to enter it. When I use the link "recover password" I dont get any email and it is not possible to make a new account because my telephone number was used in the first account.
Does anybody know, who I have to contact ( e.g. email-adress) to solve this problem ?

Office 2013, i reinstalled all of it + registry and cash clean, also ran OfficeFix, and still this message appears when
i try to open certain word files, from outlook or just from
desktop, the word program is opening normally when no files are involved,
i also must say my computer is part of an organization (not a privet
pc its in the company network don't know if its relevant)

I had the same problem with outlook 2013 and solved it by doing a couple of things.
-first I disabled the "Google Cloud connect" add-ins in both "Word" and "Excel" (this only applies it you have it installed). if not just do the
second step.
Secondly I disabled protected view in word.
Please Note : If you do this- then 'any' file that you download from 'unknown' sources could cause harm on your computer
if you open it.

Launch Microsoft Word (or Excel, Powerpoint, etc).

Click the 'File' menu

Choose 'Options'

Choose 'Trust Center'
5.
Choose 'Trust Center Settings'

Something went wrong when upgrading glibc

/lib/ld-2.13.so is a circular link to itself, and therefore I cannot execute any program. It just says "too many levels of symbolic links".
I still have a terminal and nautilus running. I was able to get ld-2.13.so from a different machine to a subdirectory through nfs.
How can I copy it to it's final location in /lib without access to a single executable. Any bash-internal command to do that?
I guess that if I reboot, the hole story is over.
How could this happen?

I am fixing it from a live cd. But the question remains: how could it happen ? The glibc package does not contain links for those files. However, when I try to install it from the live cd, it kills the /lib/ld*.so file from the live cd, even though it installs the correct files on the target partition. Anything to do with the install script? It only seems to executes ldconfig...

"Sorry, something went wrong" when accessing Configure service accounts under Security in SP2013

I have come across an interesting error which appears when accessing the Configure service accounts setting under Security>General Security.
Has anyone come across this problem? I would appreciate some help with this as I am still fairly new to SP2013.

It is part of the log entry when an error occurs (usually). Basically what you need to do is watch the current log file (using ulsviewer.exe), repeat the error and then capture the error in the log file.

Was the music purchased via your iTunes account and/or did you buy it from other sources or copy it from your own CDs, or did the music belong to the previous owner ? If the music was yours then you can sync it back to the iPod via your computer's iTunes. If the music is not still on your computer then have you got a backup of it ? If not then for iTunes purchases you might be able to re-download it depending on which country you are in. If the music was put on the iPod by the previous owner then you will need to buy your own copies of it.

Unable to access OWA or ECP. - "Something went wrong" or "500 unexpected error"

Our environment consist of 3 client access servers with 8 mailbox servers. I recently installed windows updates on all of the servers. Now when a user tries to access OWA it fails and says "Something went wrong" when I try to access
ECP I receive "500 unexpected error"
I have tried building a new CAS and mailbox servers with the default settings but it still fails. I did not install the latest Windows updates on the new servers. I tried creating new databases with new users and it also fails.

I opened a case with Microsoft. After 3 days and over 15 hours on the phone they were able to resolve the problem. They had to use ADSI edit to remove the canary data for the domain.
I tried rebuilding the virtual directories, building a new CAS server, a new mailbox server and a new server with both roles installed. I created a new database and new users in that database and used the new CAS server but the problem continued which
led us to believe it was something being obtained from Active Directory. We finally figured out the problem was in the properties of an object in ADSI.
You have to open the ADSI editor on the primary domain controller (start-->administrative tools-->ADSI edit), go to CN=Services --> CN=Microsoft Exchange --> CN=<Your Site Name> Right click CN=Client Access and click properties.
Scroll down to msExchCanaryData0. You have to click edit and copy the data from Data0, Data1 and Data2 (you may have more or less) to a notepad file. Then erase the data from those settings. Now log onto the CAS server and open IIS management.
Go to application pools and right click MSExchangeOWAAppPool and click Recycling. Then restart all of the mailbox servers.
It's a great idea to take a system state backup before performing these steps as editing ADSI data is risky.
