To avoid any problem with the installation, I found it is very useful to have a clean system to start with. A clean Win/XP installation on a new partition (with not much else on it) is the best. The SAP installation is very finicky! Any irregularity or inconsistency in the system registry will (seems to) cause some sort of problem in the installation of the SAP Sneak preview. I also wish that SAP would make a stronger installation (and/or documentation for it) set up for the Sneak Preview version. It is very helpful to have this version for learning, but one needs to be able to install it first!

Hi Som,
Netweaver CE is supported by following Windows series:
Windows XP Professional (Service Pack 2) or Windows 2003 Server (Service Pack 1)
The version has also been tested successfully with Windows 2000 (SP3) and Windows XP (SP1), but is certified only for the two Windows versions above (Note: If you use a Windows XP account without a password , SAP Management Console can not start/stop your instance via Web Service - use system services instead)

There is one pre-requisite that is missing from the documentation - ensuring that the administration team is adequately trained.
Since you are asking this question, I wonder whether your team is properly prepared for, and aware of, the possible nuances or changes from default that might be relevant to your environment.
For example, is your team familiar with the concept of Flashback Recovery Area and how it may fit, or conflict with, your production needs? Use of RMAN? Location of Oracle software Inventory and implications in your OS-level backup? How to configure both the software and the database to meet your Service Level Agreement requirements.
The referenced document is an excellent first step, as it asks some of the questions. If you are serious about production stability, you want to go through that as well as get appropriate level of expertise in your shop.

For Netweaver 04 :
MINIMAL CONFIGURATION: The SYSTEM should have
1) CPU: Dual CPU
2) RAM : 2 GB (Incase of single stack) & 4GB (For Dual Stack)
3) Storage space of atleast 80 GB (althoug it depends on the database usage and the kind of transaction you would be doing on them).
For details please refer the master guide / installation guide or may be you could also refer to the sizing documents.

I am installing weblogic6.1 as windows service.I have made all required changes in "installService.cmd"(see below) and everything is working fine except that i am not able to set a log for putting all stdout mesaages to a text file.

JDK version for installing SOA suite on windows vista

Hi
I am trying to install SOA Suite 10.1.3.1 on my Windows Vista 64 bit system. Currently, when running irca.bat, I am getting error "invalid java version 1.6.0_13. Version 1.4 is required."
But isnt the script supposed to run for all 1.4+ jdks. Which version of jdk do I need to install?

The complete error message in the popup is "Error in CreateOUIProcess(): 3". When you hit <OK>, you are back at the command prompt where you typed setup.exe.

We are at the same point too.
Anybody here install the Vertex O series 6 running on the Java Stack? if so, what NW release and what component?
We are currently running an older version on SAP NW640 JAVA with no issue, and I am making the assumption the new Vertex would be running on the same SAP java AS for 7*... maybe not?
The install documents from Vertex say the requirement for SAP is:
"SAP NetWeaver 7.1 with Service Pack 3 or higher" and I see that there is only 7.1 for PI and Mobile.
(Maybe they mean SAP NW 7 SP3?)
We did ask Vertex, the company, about running this on the java app and they wrote:
"Netweaver 7.1 is currently supported for deployment of O Series 6.0. Versions 7.0 and 7.3 of Netweaver are not supported.
O Series 6.0 is supported for use with Java 1.5 and Java 1.6. "

Install sharepoint 2010 on windows 8.1 enterprise

I would like to install sharepoint server 2010 on windows 8.1 enterprise without Hyper-V as the organization policy does not allow us to user Hyper-V. At the end of the installation while sharepoint configuration wizard is running, it thre a "Configuration
Failed" exception. Failed to create configuration database as shown below. Kindly help.

The instructions for installing SharePoint 2010 on Windows 8 are pretty much the same as they were on Windows 7 x64. You do still need to make sure you create the custom config file to do the install. You can find a full set of instructions

The one additional thing you need to do is make sure that when you install IIS you are using ASP.net 2.0 instead of ASP.Net 4.0. Windows 8 will default to 4.0. You can read more about that here:

I should however point out that although you can install SharePoint 2010 on Windows 8 its not really a supported platform and even on Windows 7 its only supported as a Dev environment. Its never been supported for any kind of production usage.

Need bit of help on Oracle Identity manager (IDM). We have installed IDM on windows and when we wanted to configure domain and configure the managed server instances (in weblogic server) by clicking config.bat from common/bin, we were not able to see the Identity manager instance in the list. What could be the reason?
Should IDM be part of same domain as webcenter spaces? When we were trying to work with sapces it was expecting oracle identity server to be running.
When installing the identity manager it was asking oracle home. Does that mean oracle db has to reside on the machine where IDM is installed? Could be this be affecting the IDM instance not appearing in the list?

Not Approved Updates Showing up for Install on Clients

I have a group of servers that have an update that was selected as "Not Approved" for the group they are located in on WSUS, yet they show up for install when doing a windows update. If the update was selected on WSUS as "Not Approved"
why is it showing up on the servers available for installation? I don't want to decline the update as it is approved for other groups on WSUS, I simply don't want some groups to get this particular update so I made it "Not Approved" for that group.

Because "NotApproved" is not a DENY condition; it's merely the absence of an ALLOW condition.
It only takes one approval in one group of which a computer is a member for it to have permission to install an update. If a computer belongs to multiple groups and you don't want the update deployed, the update must be NotApproved (i.e. not allowed) for
ALL groups of which that client system is a member
I strongly encourage the practice of creating group structures so that an update only has to be approved for ONE group (or one parent group), and then ensure that group (or group structure) only has computers that should get that update.
Sometimes this also involves creating custom groups just to handle individual updates.

I have downloaded and used the iPod Reset Utility, alot that did. My current state is iTunes on my XP Home with SP3 sees the iPod. When I drag a song to the iPod, the Sync message appears for about 5 minutes, then the Apple symbol appears. But no song has been transferred to the iPod.
I tried to tap into the XP iTunes database from my iBook, but although it acted like it would add the XP library to the iBook library, it did not. I've got 19 Gs of songs on the XP. If I have to load each song from its original CD to get it on my iBook I'm going to start looking for some other app or device so that I can listen to my music.
It is a shame, in the old days, Apple techs use to look at what was going on, now it appears they don't, so they never know they have problems until Apple's profits fall.
