I understand that your friend's notebook computer is having difficulty charging the battery, and I would be happy to assist you in this matter!
In order to test and re-synchronize the battery with the notebook again, I recommend following the steps in this document: Testing and Calibrating the Battery (Windows 7). This should help maintain a charge on your notebook's battery.
Additionally, I also suggest following the steps below re-install the Microsoft ACPI-Compliant Control Method Battery:
Step 1. Go to Device Manager
Step 2. Select Batteries
Step 3. Right click the "Microsoft ACPI-Compliant Control Method Battery" that is listed there
Step 4. Click Uninstall
Step 5. At the prompt put a check in the box to remove the current driver
Step 6. Shutdown the computer
Step 7: Remove the battery for minute and then put it back in
When the computer comes back up it should automatically find the driver.
Step 8. Go to Device Manager
Step 9. Select Batteries
Step 10. Right click the "Microsoft ACPI-Compliant Control Method Battery" that is listed there
Step 11. Click "Search automatically for updated driver software"
Step 12. Do the same thing with Microsoft ACPI-Compliant Embedded Controller (if it appears in the Device Manager).

Try this first - Reset the iPad by holding down on the Sleep and Home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons. (This is equivalent to rebooting your computer.)

IPad Air charging VERY slowly, sometimes "not charging" entirely.

I'm using the charger that came with the new iPad Air in a wall outlet, but it charges incredibly slowly. We're talking like 10% charge in about an hour's time. Sometimes, even with the same set up, it says "not charging" all together. I think it charges even slower when doing it through my MacBook Air. Is anyone else having this issue with their new iPad Air charging slowly?

Same issue here. At least 4 hours on the charger and only 50%. Pretty **** annoying really. I love the new Apple stuff, but every time I upgrade to a new phone, laptop or iPad I end up having to take it into the Genius bar and get it replaced. Is it too difficult to conduct more thorough testing or at least get something right.
Going to tough it out for another week before I make the long journey to the Apple store to wait in a line.
It seems the online support doesn't accept my serial number as it is 'yet to be a supported device'....well done Apple, outdoing yourselves as always

Firefox will not load, but shows in task manager

Sometimes when I try to open firefox the program will not open, but it appears in task manager.
I can end process, sometimes I can open then and other times it will not open.
Then I have to reboot for it to open. I was using ver 36.0.0.4 then upgraded to 37 with no change.
I went back to ver 28 and tried it and it worked, but I did not try that many times.
It will work for 4 or 5 times then stop working and I have to reboot.
I am using windows 7 32 bit.

Firefox will not launch, but shows in task manager, after updating graphics drivers to AMD's 13.1.

After updating to the AMD 13.1 drivers, on my 5770, Firefox will not launch; it does, however, show in the task manager. I should note that it will start in Windows safe mode; when I had it open in safe mode, I used that time to disable all plugins, add-ons, extensions, and created a new profile. This did not help. I also tried launching Firefox in to its safe mode, and had no luck with this either.
I experienced this problem once before, when trying to update to a previous version. I believe I was moving from 12.1 to 12.4, but I'm not 100% sure of that. Ultimately, my solution then was to retrograde back to my previous driver. The steps mentioned in the previous paragraph did not help at that time, not did a complete reinstall.
15 years of computer repair experience, and this has me baffled.

By any chance, did you disable Firefox's use of hardware graphics acceleration? To avoid a round-trip through Windows Safe Mode, you could try adding these to your prefs.js file while Firefox is closed.
To quickly open the folder with the correct prefs.js file, you can use
Help > Troubleshooting Information > "Show Folder" button
Because Firefox may overwrite change to this file at shutdown, you should edit it after closing Firefox and allowing a few moments for Firefox to finish updates to the files.
These are the preferences I think are most relevant:
user_pref("gfx.content.azure.enabled", false);
user_pref("gfx.direct2d.disabled", true);
Does that make any difference?

How can I delete the podcasts that I have not downloaded but show up as being in the cloud

How can I delete the podcasts that show up as being in the cloud when viewing them in the List mode? Most of these are past episode that I previously downloaded and then deleted. I know that I can look at my podcasts in Unplayed mode which removes those in the cloud but then I can't sort them first by podcast title and then by episode date the way I can in List mode. This was not a problem before iTunes 11.1 when I could simply delete those in the cloud.

That is discouraging. However I do notice that if I view my podcasts in My Podcasts mode they are grouped and sorted better than in Unplayed mode and the ones in the cloud are not shown. However although I prefer the one window view of List mode to the two windows My Podcast mode, My Podcast mode does at least indicate how many unplayed episodes I have from each podcast. This would almost be acceptable except that partially listened to podcasts, while still there, can only be identified by highlighting the podcast title on the lefthand sidebar, (although the number of completely unplayed episodes are listed on the left hand sidebar). As someone who often listens to a podcast over two or more days I fear I could forget which ones I have only partially listened to and would have to go down the entire left hand sidebar list highlighting each podcast to remind myself. I really find the List mode the most informative and easiest way to view my podcasts and really wish Apple had not messed with it

OS X updates not installing but showing they have

All my regular app updates work fine, but when I have tried to update the OS X updates (10.10.3, Pro video formats 2.0.1, etc..) they begin the download and before the download completes or installs the update shows in the "updates installed in the last 30 days" area of the MAS and it still appears in the update area (shown in image). I cleared the installed history to see if that would help, it did not. I re-installed the OS and that didn't fix the problem. I have attempted to download the install and run it separately but it also didn't install. I checked the log and I get a few different errors:
1) locationd[90]: Could not write data to disk /var/folders/zz/zyxvpxvq6csfxvn_n00000sm00006d/C/cache.plist
2) sandbox cache could not be reset
3) ATS is unable to switch to read/write database - ATS will run off of a read-only database. Only System fonts will be available.
4) sandboxd[255]: ([269]) softwareupdated(269) deny file-write-create /private/var/folders/zz/zyxvpxvq6csfxvn_n00000s0000068/C/com.apple.SoftwareUpda te.SUUpdateServiceDaemon.state.sb-66620acf-mdroYI
I have reset all the folder permissions to default, I have run Verify Disk and have repaired it, I have Verified the disk permissions and repaired them. I used Pacifist to install the updates, and nothing has worked. Does anyone know how to fix this problem? I have been searching the internet for about a week hoping that someone had a solution but it seems like I am the only one with this problem. Not sure why the system would be saying it doesn't have read/write/create privileges though. Especially after reinstalling the OS and making sure the folder it says it does have permissions to use has been given those permissions. It looks like a sandbox issue but I don't really know that much about sandbox.
Can anyone help me with this issue?

Lightroom 5 will not start but shows as running in task manager?

Hi,
I'm using Lightroom 5.7 (64 bit) on a Win7 machine and it was working perfectly until a few days ago. Now for reasons unknown to me, it will now not start correctly. According to Task Manager it is running but nothing appears on screen. It shows as a running process using about 15,020k. If I try and end the process it will not stop until I have tried 4 or 5 times.
I have tried renaming the preview file to force it to build a new file, and optimizing the data base and it ran once, said it was checking the catalog, and then reverted to the same behaviour.
If I can get it started I can revert to a backup database.

Turns out Lightroom not guilty. The hard drive containing the catalogue was failing and although tests seemed to show it as OK it was actually only reading / writing at a fraction of the correct speed. So Lightroom was taking a long time to read it's own catalogue. It tooks 48 hours to copy 1 gig of data off the disk.

Ipod internet not connecting but shows a wi-fi connection

Hey guys, my ipod touch has been fine up until now. My ipod shows positive connection to the internet, but it cannot connect because "the server cannot be found." Someone please help me. Thank you.

Tap the blue > next to your network name. What are your IP settings showing?
If everything looks normal, ie. 192.168.x.x for your IP address and the routers IP address, you might have a DNS problem. This kind of depends on how well your internet connection is and if you have any problems with your computer getting to web sites.
If you are getting a 169.x.x.x address, then your touch is not getting an IP address from the router. This might depend on your router settings or it might be related to your touch. You can try tapping "Renew Lease" of turning WiFi off and back on. You may even want to power cycle your router if the two previous steps don't help.

Autocorrect in pages (and in word) not working, but shows selected

Somehow my autocorrect feature is not working. It will still, not always show me a word is wrong (misses half) but I have to click to select and correct it myself. In word, its the same but worse, it misses more. I deleted a lot of my cookies before this happened and wonder if I somehow deleted something related ? Doesnt seem likely. I am having no luck finding how to make it work. I was helped at Apple with modest success In notes, which is actually now working , but i really need it in pages and word. The misspelled words, such as now while Im typing are underlined in red dashes, but NO AUTO feature on correcting them, its a manual select. Argh!

I had a pop-up from Mcafee yesterday with option to block a particular access request, today Firefox will not open but shows the message with "try again" -please help.

I assume that I inadvertantly authorized McAfee to block Firefox .

Safari will not open but shows in the menu bar -

We already checked with our Internet provider and that is all good. Our wireless is working. Safari will not reset and freezes up, in the menu all commands are greyed out except "Hide Safari" or I must force quit. We have ethernet on this computer.

Ok, skip the cache,db suggestion.
In the effected account, try troubleshooting extensions and third party plug-ins.
From the Safari menu bar click Safari > Preferences then select the Extensions tab. Turn that OFF, quit and relaunch Safari to test. If that helped, turn one extension on then quit and relaunch Safari to test until you find the incompatible extension then click uninstall.
If it's not an extensions issue, try troubleshooting third party plug-ins.
Back to Safari > Preferences. This time select the Security tab. Deselect: Allow plug-ins. Quit and relaunch Safari to test.

Safari will not open but showed activity on mac

When I open Safari and it only showed safari bar on top and showed activity on dock and nothing on screen still can see wallpaper.
I also restart and reinstall the safari and still same problem.

You may have inadvertently installed the Community Toolbar. Follow the paths here:
/Library/Application Support/ Move the Conduit file to the Trash.
/Library/Application Support/ Move all of these files to the Trash: SIMBL/Plugins/CT2285220.bundle
/Library/InputManagers/ Move CTLoader to the Trash.
/Library/Receipts/ Move ctloader.pkg to the Trash.
/Library/ScriptingAdditions/ Move any Conduit / CTLoader related files in that folder to the Trash.
/Users/<User name>/Library/Application Support/ Move Conduit to the Trash.
Relaunch Safari.

Hard Drive Not Mounting, but showing connected in Disk Utility

I accidentally locked myself out of my external hard drive. While it was connected, I went into the Info and went under "Ownership & Permissions" and unchecked the Ignore ownership on this volume and I clicked the You Can drop box and changed it to No Access. The drive doesn't mount on the desktop anymore but I see it in disk utility. What should I do?

My trackpad will sometimes not work but external mice will.

I have the newest version of Macbook Pro. It is all up to date. Sometimes, the trackpad will arbirtarily stop working for a long period of time. However, when I plug in an external mouse, the cursor moves and selects normally. Is this normal? How can I fix it?

Macbook Pro is in limited warranty for 1 year from the date of purchase.
If the Apple store is nearby, take the MBP to the Apple store for evaluation.
