Sometimes flickering when playing low to medium games

pc flickers with some games, tried  another monitor still flickered,  pc only has integrated graphics.
Would changing power box to higher level and putting in a video card help?

Hello @gary2165,
I have read your post on how your desktop's display screen flickers with some games, and I would be happy to help you!
Since you mentioned that this issue occurs on multiple displays, I recommend following the steps in this document on Display Quality Issues. This should help to refresh the resolution, as well as updating any applicable graphics card drivers.
If the flickering continues, you may need to upgrade your graphics card to use the monitor.
Please re-post with the results of your troubleshooting, and I look forward to your reply!

  • Macbook Pro 13.3" 2.8G   8G RAM is very hot when playing web base flash game =.="

I used to play web based flash game, and could open up to 5 different browsers (with the same game) each time with my old notebook 1.8GHz + 4G RAM (Win 7). However, changing to my new macbook pro 13.3 2.8GHz + 8G RAM (OSX Lion), even opening the same flash game with 1 browser. The keyboard will be soon very hot. If open 2 browsers, there will be noisy fan sound and keyboard will become even hotter =.="
Could engineer in Apple solve this issue??? or any suggestion???

    Mahdi411,
if Candy Crush is a graphics-intensive game, then your MacBook Pro will consume energy (and generate heat as a side effect) to meet those graphics demands. The fans run quickly to expel as much as heat as possible, so that your MacBook Pro’s components don’t bake. The additional airflow generates more noise.

  • Movie jitters/flickers when played from DVD

I've created a DVD but when I play it anywhere, (DVD Player or Mac) it jitters in some parts of the movie, usually when it's panning fast or following an object quickly.
When I played the movie from DVD SP it plays perfectly, but after I've burned the DVD or created the .img file, it jitters/flickers, I've played it in 3 different TV's and 2 other Macs and it does the same thing, NOW this is the interesting part... When I play it from my MacBook Pro it doesn't do it, it plays perfectly. What is going on???
In the DVD SP preferences I've changed the encoding from
Mode: one pass DBR, Motion Estimation: better to
Mode: two pass DBR and motion estimation: Best
the rest of the specs stayed the same
Aspect ratio: 4:3 although the movie was shot 16:9
    field order: auto
    bit rate: 4.0 mbps
    max bit rate 7.0 mbps
I've burned a DVD from the MacBook Pro that doesn't show the problem, and when I played it from it, it was perfect as usual, but when I went back to the MacPro or to the DVD players the jitters appeared again.
Does anyone have an idea why this is happening? or what am I missing in the burning process?
In advance... thanks for your help.
    Claus

I believe I am experiencing the same problem. The thing that was odd to me is that on my video only about the first 1 minute was messed up, after that the rest of the video was playing fine.
    - It was the exact same spot on 4 discs that I tried burning
    - I tried re-exporting from fcp - still the same spot messed up
    - Also tried re-encoding in DVDSP - same result
I can only assume that there is an error occurring sometime during encoding, but I can't figure out a solution. Any ideas are greatly appreciated.
    PS:
The above described was shot in 4:3 SD, exported using current settings, and encoded in DVDSP with best motion estimation, 8mb speed, bottom field order first, etc...
Right now I am working on another DVD which was shot in HD, exported from final cut using current settings, encoded in compressor using SD DVD 90 min setting, then imported into DVDSP.
I'm experiencing something similar here, but this time I have 3 different videos on the DVD. One of them, the shortest, turns out jittery and the other two turned out fine.
This is my first time using an HD to SD DVD workflow, so I don't know if I could have made a mistake somewhere along that path.

  • MacBook Pro Retina 13" fan very loud/overheats when playing full screen video/games

    Hi,
Just purchased a MacBook Pro Retina, refurbished (because why not - the same product for a cheaper price) around a month ago. It's the 13 inch and is the model before the most recent one came out (4GB of RAM instead of 8GB - late 2013). From the very first day, playing a full-screen video on any site (be it YouTube, Facebook, etc) just makes the fan much louder than usual (so loud that you can almost hear it more over the video itself). Thought it may have been just a thing with Flash Player being buggy, but the problem has persisted for a while now. I'm not even pushing the CPU to any limits - literally playing a full-screen video on Facebook (not even in HD) makes the fan go crazy.
Just last night I tried installing Borderlands 2 and it was the same thing - FPS rate was fine, no lag, just the fan was so loud that I actually got scared for my computer and turned it off. After closing the app and checking out the fan temperature, it was at 91c.
Never happens when browsing/surfing or doing my usual work.
Should I go give it back to Apple? The thing is I start university in less than a week (and hence will be traveling), so not sure if I can afford to give my laptop in to them for a long period of time (I know it should be free though since mine is a refurb item). May it just be an issue that is quickly repairable or is this worse?

During processor intensive activities—such as processing HD video or playing a game that makes extensive use of the graphics processor—the    fans speed up to provide additional airflow.

  • Screen flickering when playing VCD

the screen flickering throughout whenever a VCD movie is played, is this a software bug?
(at the same time, having very poor image quality when DVD movie is played)

have sent my Macbook to the service center, after 2 weeks, I was told that I need to downgrade to Mac OS X 10.5 (problem still exist even after updating Mac OS X 10.5.2)
Is this confirmed a sofware problem?
Can users of Mac OS X 10.5.2 (on MacBook) please comment.

  • Object flickers when played on TV

    Hi!
I imported in Final Cut several LiveType projects: one with a backround, another with some animated text and one with an object. I exported the final Final Cut project in QuickTime DVPal (same settings as the LiveType Project) and imported the .mov in DVD Studio Pro.
When I play the DVD in my TV text appears perfect, and also the backround. But the object (objects/digital/encoding, its not a still) flickers all the time. Do I have to aply a flicker filter in Final Cut to the LiveType project where the object is?
    Thanks!!

First, it sounds like your fields are reversed, so you should correct that. That will almost certainly fix the problem. If you still have a flicker problem after trying that, then attack it in FCP with a flicker filter.

  • How to disable menu bar and dock when playing a full screen game? Like sims 4

i play sims 4 on my MacBook pro and if I go to close to the bottom of the screen or the top the menu bar or dock pops up I was wondering if there is A program or a setting I can use to disable that while in something full screen or gaming

The game itself should already have the option for full screen. But you can go to system preferences dock and check the hid dock option. Then you would have to go to the very edge of the screen to get the dock to reappear.

  • Major slowdown when playing backgammon on Yahoo Games

Around the 3rd game I play everything slows to a crawl, getting gradually slower until I am forced to quit the game. I am using Firefox as my browser, haven't tried this on Safari, if that makes a difference. Help will be greatly appreciated.

2 GB is a very small amount to be honest. If it's a mid 2009 machine you can upgrade it to 4, 6 or 8 GB. If you want to know where it all is going look at the Activity Monitor that will tell you exactly how much each application is using. You can upgrade to 4 GB for about $110. I would recommend visiting:

  • 4th gen..music pauses when played, no sound in games...

..have reset/restored/reloaded all software..is this a hardware problem? menus also operating slowly/freezing sometimes...memory issue??

If you restored to factory defaults/new iPod then you very likely have a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

  • Screen flickers when running games in Windows XP

Okay, so I'm running Windows XP 32bit sp3 through Bootcamp. I have to say that Windows doesn't run perfectly through this, probably due to compatibility issues. I'm running a 24" iMac 2.33 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo with 2GB RAM and NVIDIA GeForce 7300 GT.
    Basically, here's my issue
Screen starts to flicker when playing games, I'm guessing because it is somewhat graphic intensive. It starts happening gradually after playing for say, 20-30 minutes. Sometimes it gets so bad that it is impossible to even play. The screen might also start "tearing" if you understand my meaning. When I exit out of the game when it has been flickering for a while, the screen still flickers indefinitely afterward, not stopping. Restarting temporarily fixes the problem. I have tried various methods in attempt to fix this, including updating my graphic card drivers and even pressing the "Use inverse telecine" button under the Nividia Control panel. But all in all, nothing significant has changed and I haven't found a solution. My computer should be able to play the games, since I am far over their requirements (I am trying to play Battlefield 1942 and Battlefield Vietnam).

I set it to a minimum of 600 on ODD, 2500 on HDD, and 1700 on CPU and it seems to work pretty well, but right now I have it set to about 3500 HDD and 2200 CPU. At this moment in MAC OSX, my iMac's temperature has been at 88ºF for about 10 minutes since startup running Safari.
You can play around with it, but it might get a bit noisy as you put it higher. I haven't bothered too much with the ODD because I've been playing Battlefield 2 which doesn't require a CD with the newest patch.
The main thing I would pay attention to is CPU, since that is where games use a lot of energy.
Feel free to set the speeds at whatever you feel is good. Hope this helps!!!
Haha it took me forever to figure this thing out

  • Brand New MacBook Pro Freezes When Playing Games

My sister recently received a brand new MacBook Pro courtesy of the University of Arizona and already she is having problems. When my sister plays a Java based game utilizing the Open Gl graphics plugin her computer will sometimes freeze after the graphics become distorted. during the freeze only the mouse will move and everything else is unresponsive, the only solution is to shut of the computer using the power button. All the updates have been installed and this doesn't happen any other time then when playing that game. This neither happens on her PC nor does it mine playing the same game. I'm not sure what the problem is and I would appreciate any help.

Is this Java based game Runescape? I experience the same crashes, ive tried using other things in-game other than the OpenGl and i still experience crashes, much more often when i have iTunes running while trying to play. Ive never had problems like this before, even while using older computers with much less memory, etc.. This is my first mac and id have to say it's not leaving a good impression. I planned to be able to play some games on this and consider Runescape requires very low CPU this is kind of sad that a Mac can't process it without crashing. Ive been reading lots of similar posts online and it sounds like Apple should be worried more about customer satisfaction than their own stocks. Hope something works out soon!!

  • Mac Crashes when Playing Games

The Mac described below sometimes completely freezes, requiring a restart (but not getting a grey screen) when playing CPU-intensive games. It starts to lag badly, then the screen gets messed up (windows leave trails), then eventually the entire computer freezes. The reason I say "games" is because this has never happened in Final Cut Express or anything, but this problem started recently (a month ago) after I upgraded to 10.5.8 so it might not be just for games.
It seems to crash rarely (once every one or two weeks) but in the past few days it has been worse (it crashed three times today). My guess is that it's an OS issue, so I put it under the Leopard forum. I know that this can be complicated to fix, but does anyone know if this is a known issue?
P.S. The apps it has crashed so far on: Age of Empires II, Phun, Super TuxKart, Minecraft, X-Plane

The following will help you find and use it.
Try running the extended version of your Apple Hardware Test . It's not perfect, but may flag something.

  • Unavoidable system freezes when playing games

    Hi all,
I recently switched from Windows to Arch Linux for good and it's been an enjoyable experience so far. My only problem is system freezes that sometimes occur when putting load on the system.
Mostly I'm having the problem that games I'm playing will inevitably freeze at some point, might be 5 minutes after launching them, might be 2h. It isn't exclusive to games though, once or twice Chrome crashed when having a couple of tabs open and opening another YouTube tab or something like that.
    Here's how it happens:
    - My frame rate (in games) drops over a couple of seconds until I only see a slide show, then it's only a matter of seconds until the system (X?) freezes completely.
    - simultaneously the sound begins to stutter and stops as well
    - if I see it coming and manage to Alt+F4 out of the game it goes back to running normally, otherwise it freezes completely and my only option is to reboot or Alt+SysRq+R, Alt+SysRq+E which brings me back to my login manager.
    About my system:
    - latest Arch, upgraded a couple of times which didn't change anything
    - Intel i5 CPU, Nvidia GPU with proprietary drivers
    - Openbox as WM, no DE, but I had the same problem with GNOME and KDE before as well
Games I played on this system (and all crashed):
    - CS:GO, Prison Architect, WoW on Wine
If someone could give me any hints how I could go about diagnosing/removing this problem I would be very grateful!
P.S. I didn't have any problems like this at all on Windows (7)

  • Upgraded Computer Routinely Crashes when playing Video games

I had an "HP Pavilion HPE-150f Desktop PC" for a few years, but about a year and a half ago, I upgraded the graphics card and the power supply. My new power supply was a Corsair TX 650, and my new graphics card was an
ATI Radeon HD6970 Sapphire. Everything went fine until about a month ago (so I had about a year of smooth sailing with this setup).
Usually after 5-10 mins of playing any video game, my computer starts getting hic-hupc (visual and audio lag, as well as input lag), and crashes soon after.
This problem tends to happen most when playing video games, but it also happens at random times when I am not doing anything demanding on my computer.
I get short bits of lag (visual, and sound lag). It starts up at distanced intrevals, but slowly gets more frequent. Eventually, the computer either freezes, or I get a blue screen.
I have cleaned up the dust in my computer numerous times. It didn't really help.
I have updated drivers after doing a full system restore on my computer (along with updating other windows related things), that did not help either.
I thought getting the drivers updated had solved my problem, but when I was playing a video game today I ran into the same issue. Which video game it is is not really a detail, since this happens with almost all games.
I had originally thought this was related to CPU temperatures, but I installed a program that monitors that and everything was within the 40-50 degree range. I'm told this is normal from my friends who get higher temperatures and yet do not run into this problem.
    I'm on windows 7.
I will provide more info if needed. This problem has been ongoing for a few months now.
    TL;DR:
Computer randomly starts lagging-up/freezing. I sometimes get a blue screen and I sometimes don't (meaning I have to restart the machine myself).
Problem happens more often when I am gaming, but it can also happen randomly at any given time.
Thanks in advance to any who can help.
In the next post I will give some info about my machine.

Here is the info of what I have:
    1. Intel Core I7 (It also says: "860 @2.80GHz 2.80Hz" in the ControlPanel->System and Security -> System tab)
    2. ATI Radeon HD6970 Sapphire
    3. Win7 64bit
    4. Driver for Catalyst: Version 12.104.0.0 (for the GPU)
    5. Corsair TX 650
    6. 8.00 GB of RAM
    7. i) The computer did come with the OS (win7 64bit), but it wasn't updated. To update it, I went to the search bar in the START menu and typed something along the lines of "Windows update", which took me to a seperate window, where I could let the computer update itself.
ii) The original product did not have the Power Supply it currently has, or The graphics card it currently has. I bought those two myself to modify the machine.
The original product was a "HP Pavilion HPE-150f Desktop PC". I believe that is the name for it. The System tab in control panel simply says "HPE-150f"
    8. Monitor resolution 1920x1080, connected by DVI connector.
Thanks in advance to anyone who can help.
I also used a program called Speccy, which gives you info about your computer.
    About my BIOS, Speccy said:
    Brand:    American Megatrends Inc.
    Version: 5.15
    Date:     25/06/2010
So I went to the following site and updated my BIOS:
    http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareCategory?cc=ca&dlc=en&lc=en&os=4063&product=4120554&softw...
It didn't help anything, I still get the exact same crashing.
Lastly, here is an image of the blue screen I am getting:
I also made a thread on the AMD support forums for my GPU's manufacturer, That thread can be found here:
    http://forums.amd.com/game/messageview.cfm?catid=443&threadid=167863&enterthread=y
Thanks in advance to any who can help. I can provide more info if needed.
