Sometimes I can't save pages as documents or I can't close the USB

Sometimes I can't save documents I am working on pages, as word documents, and sometimes I can't expulse the USB. I recently installed Mountain Lion on my MacBook Pro. I bought it in 2012.
Sometimes it says documents I am working are incompatible and can't be save, but are new documents and It won't save the changes I make to the documents.

What was your old system?
What is your new System?
What version of Pages?
How did you install it?
I don't know if you can see what's on my screen, but I definitely can't see what's on yours.
To Install Word, buy it and follow the instructions.

How can I save my word documents in ICLOUD

You can't directly, as Microsoft don't include iCloud support in their apps.
You'd have to open your Word file in Apple's Pages and save it to iCloud from there.

  • Can I save MS Office documents on iCloud?

Can I save MS Office documents on iCloud?  If so, how?

What is your Mac OS X version?  If you have Yosemite on all Macs and iOS 8.1.2 on all mobile devices and upgraded to iCloud Drive,  you can store any type of document in iCloud on iCloud Drive and keep it up to date on all devices.  Simply create a folder for your MS documents on iCloud Drive and drag the documents over.  See:  iCloud Drive FAQ
With Mac OS X 10.9 or earlier, try Winston Churchill's User Tip:

Can I save both DVD-R and DVD-Video files onto the same DVD?

    Hi Stan,
I just want the user to be able to run my video clips either on a
computer or on a standard DVD player. It would be nice to include both
formats on a single disc. I am new to this and am not sure what format
is most widely used for standard DVD players. Thanks for your response
and any guidance you can give me.

I had a neighbor one time who was annoyed that "that darn bolt on the bottom of my engine" kept scraping on the curb when he'd pull in or out of his driveway, so he ground it down till it was flat with the oil pan. It wasn't till about a year later when he took the car in to have the oil changed that he realized the error of his ways. Cost him $500 to have the pan pulled and replaced.
If you don't know what it does, find out first or leave it alone.

  • How can I save pages as a document with the new Mavericks version of pages?

Is there any way to save a pages document as a Microsoft document?  Additionally, is there any way to save a numbers document as an Excel document?
Since I have downloaded the new Mavericks software with the new Pages, Numbers, and Keynote, I can't save anything as a Microsoft document anymore.  Can anyone please help?  I'm a student needing an answer because most institutions only use Microsoft.  This is an extremely upsetting fall back for Apple if there isn't a way to accomplish these activities.
Also, if anyone has any information if Apple is going to provide new drivers for old HP printers and scanners, please inform me.  My multi-functional printer is obsolete (according to a phone conversation with HP).  Currently, I have to jump through hoops to get the scanner to work and Preview crashes most of the time (with the Mavericks update).

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities
iWork does not let you save a document as an Office document by default, so you have to do some extra steps. First open the document and go to File menu (on the menu bar) > Export to, and choose the Office app to create a document for Microsoft Office.
Respecting to printer drivers, Apple does not provide newer drivers for an obsolete printer. Instead, see if Gutenprint works > http://gimp-print.sourceforge.net/MacOSX.php

  • Can I save Pages 5.0.1 documents as a single file?

I have recently started using CrashPlan to backup my iMac (OS X Mavericks) and tried using CrashPlan's mobile app to restore iWork (Pages, Numbers, Keynote) documents on the go on either my iPhone or iPad.  However, I cannot restore any newer iWork (2013 update, iOS 7) document, only the older iWork '09 file types. What is shown on the app is a package (a folder instead of the document, and with several files inside the folder).
In the new Pages (5.0.1) there is no such option to uncheck "Save new documents as packages", unfortunately.  I tried "Save as" but that does not exist, only "Save" without any further options for creating a  single document.
Any suggestions on how I can restore a Pages "document" from CrashPlan on the go with the iOS 7?

    Thanks Peter,
However, unfortunatly I cannot use the previous version Pages on iOS (iPhone and iPad).  When the new Pages app on iOS 7 opens a document created in Pages '09 it updates it to Pages 5 - without even asking!
Seems like this is Apple's way of forcing iCloud usage.  For me keeping files on iCloud is confusing and too dependent on having an internet connection.  But I digress...
    I'll look into Microsoft Office.

  • Can't save a word document in pages

hello all, hopefully someone can help me because i am very frustrated with pages. I recently bought my 2011 macbook pro for school this fall. I transferred all my data from old macbook to this macbook. I needed a new word processing program, so I decided to download pages. Since the download I cannot save anything as a word document and for my school you need everything to be a .doc document to open on the schools computers. Every time I try and save a .doc document it comes up with an error saying:The document “Untitled” could not be saved as “essay one”. You don’t have permission.  To view or change permissions, select the item in the Finder and choose File > Get Info. Being a college student I write 2-3 essays weekly and this is getting ridiculous that I cannot save documents as .doc when it gives me this option. I have went to file get info and went to change my permissions it says my name Danielle: and gives me to options read only and write and read only. It also gives the options of staff and everyone to read only, to write and read, and only for everyone is has the option no access. I really need someone's help!! So if anyone is out there write me back! Thank you!

The point is, where are you trying to save to?
It maybe you do not have privileges on your server.
Have you tried saving elsewhere, such as in your Documents folder, then dragging the file across to wherever it is you want the file?

  • Can't Save Pages Document - says it is locked

I have been using Pages for a couple of years with no major issues. Then recently (I am guessing as a result of upgrading my operating system), every time I work on a document, it won't autosave. A message comes up saying that the document cannot be saved, that I don't have permission. Then when I try click and manually save, it says that I don't have permission, that the document has been locked.  When I go to the file and get info, it doesn't show as locked. As a result I keep having to duplicate the file any time I am editing it or else it won't save. I have done every update I can find and am using OS X version 10.9.2.  Any help would be greatly appreciated!

You have 2 versions of Pages on your Mac.
Pages 5.2 is in your Applications folder.
Pages '09/'08 is in your Applications/iWork folder.
You are alternately opening the wrong versions.
Pages '09/'08 can not open Pages 5 files and you will get the warning that you need a newer version.
Pages 5.2 can open Pages '09 files but may damage/alter them. It can not open Pages '08 files at all.
Older versions of Pages 5 can not open files from later versions of Pages 5.
Once opened and saved in Pages 5 the Pages '09 files can not be opened in Pages '09.
Anything that is saved to iCloud and opened in a newer version of Pages is also converted to Pages 5 files.
All Pages files no matter what version and incompatibility have the same extension .pages.
Pages 5 files are now only compatible with themselves on a very restricted set of hardware, software and Operating Systems and will not transfer correctly on any other server software than iCloud.
Apple has removed almost 100 features from Pages 5 and added many bugs:

  • How can I save a scanned document in pages app on my ipad? Thanks

ALso would anyone know how to rename a document in iCloud?

    Hello Yvonne.
Specialized OCR software may be needed in order to save files directly to Microsoft Word format.  Our software does not have this capability.
If you are attempting to scan a basic, text-only document.  You can use our IJ Scan Utility to scan and make adjustments.
     1.  Start, point to (All) Programs, Canon Utilities and then open the Canon IJ Scan Utility.
     2.  Click 'Settings' on the lower right corner.
     3.  Click 'Document Scan' on the left.
     4.  Under 'Application Settings' on the right, select 'Start (OCR)' and choose 'Canon My Image Garden' in the menu.
     5.  Click OK.
     6.  In the IJ Scan Utility, click 'Document'.
When scanning is completed, Notepad will open and you will be able to edit and save your document.

  • There is no 'Save as' option in the latest version of Pages '09... I can't save an edited document under a different name or in a different location.  Solution?

Have a personal letterhead. Wrote a letter beneath it.  Can't save edited letterhead as new letter--'Save As' just isn't an option under File menu.  What happened to 'Save As'?

You can achieve the same result with menu File>Duplicate though it's a slightly different process - this page explains in detail:
    http://www.tech-recipes.com/rx/16334/os-x-lion-where-did-save-as-go/
If you are regularly using a page with just a letterhead to add the text of a letter to you would do better to Save as Template and to the Templates folder. It will then be available from the Templates window you get when Pages opens, from where it will open as an 'Untitled' file which you can save in the normal way without risking messing up the template. Or you can just save it anywhere as a Template and then double-clicking it will have the same effect.

  • I can't save my open documents in Pages.

I have 2 untitled documents in pages open. I have the animated progress bar spinning and spinning. - I have tried to reinstall Pages but that dosn't cut it. What to do ?? Please help.

    Hey fruhulda,
I have a similar problem although I'm running OSX 10.9.5.  I'v just started to completely remove pages and attempt a reinstall.  I did the search for the plist file.  There was only one file with the com.apple.iwork.pages name but it did not have the .plist extension, even when I checked the info page.  Is this the same file?
I'm not sure I want to update to Yosemite yet, but it looks like I may have to in order to continue to work with my pages documents, unless the reinstall works.
